1Bone mineral density and disorders of mineral metabolism in chronic liver disease显示文摘AIM:To estimate the prevalence and identify the risk factors for metabolic bone disease in patients with cirrhosis.METHODS:The study was performed on 72 Indian patients with cirrhosis(63 male, 9 female;aged < 50 years).Etiology of cirrhosis was alcoholism(n = 37), hepatitis B(n = 25) and hepatitis C(n = 10).Twenty-three patients belonged to Child class A, while 39 were in class B and 10 in class C.Secondary causes for metabolic bone disease and osteoporosis were ruled out.Sunlight exposure, physical activity and dietary constituents were calculated.Complete metabolic profiles were derived, and bone mineral density(BMD) was measured using dual energy X ray absorptiometry.Low BMD was defined as a Z score below-2.RESULTS:Low BMD was found in 68% of patients.Lumbar spine was the most frequently and severely affected site.Risk factors for low BMD included low physical activity, decreased sunlight exposure, and low lean body mass.Calcium intake was adequate, with unfavorable calcium:protein ratio and calcium:phosphorus ratio.Vitamin D deficiency was highly prevalent(92%).There was a high incidence of hypogonadism(41%).Serum estradiol level was elevated significantly in patients with normal BMD.Insulin-like growth factor(IGF) 1 and IGF binding protein 3 levels were below the age-related normal range in both groups.IGF-1 was signiflcantly lower in patients with low BMD.Serum osteocalcin level was low(68%) and urinary deoxypyridinoline to creatinine ratio was high(79%), which demonstrated low bone formation with high resorption.CONCLUSION:Patients with cirrhosis have low BMD.Contributory factors are reduced physical activity, low lean body mass, vitamin D def iciency and hypogonadism and low IGF-1 level.Joe George Hosahithlu K Ganesh Shrikrishna Acharya Tushar R Bandgar Vyankatesh Shivane Anjana Karvat Shobna J Bhatia Samir Shah Padmavathy S Menon Nalini Shah 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,28:15

3Cellulose based polymers in development of amorphous solid dispersions显示文摘Cellulose derivatives have gained immense popularity as stabilizers for amorphous solid dispersion owing to their diverse physicochemical properties. More than 20 amorphous solid dispersion-based products that have been approved for marketing consist of cellulose derivatives as stabilizers, thus highlighting their importance in generation of amorphous solid dispersions. These polymers offer numerous advantages like drug solubilization, crystallization inhibition and improvement in release patterns of drugs. Exploring their potential and exploiting their chemistry and p H responsive behaviour have led to the synthesis of new derivatives that has broadened the scope of the use of cellulose derivatives in amorphous formulation development. The present review aims to provide an overview of different mechanisms by which these cellulose derivatives inhibit the crystallization of drugs in the solid state and from supersaturated solution. A summary of different categories of cellulose derivatives along with the newly explored polymers has been provided. 5Effect of dietary incorporation of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids rich oil sources on fatty acid profile, keeping quality and sensory attributes of broiler chicken meat显示文摘The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of dietary replacement of commonly used vegetable oil(sunflower oil, SFO) with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) rich oil sources on broiler chicken performance, carcass yield, meat fatty acid composition, keeping quality and sensory attributes of meat. In the current experiment, 300 day-old Krishibro broiler chicks were randomly distributed to 5 dietary groups(50 replicates with 6 chicks in each) prepared by replacing SFO(2% and 3% of diet during starter and finisher periods, respectively) with n-3 PUFA rich soybean oil(SO), mustard oil(MO), linseed oil(LO) or fish oil(FO) on weight basis. Variation in oil sources had no influence(P > 0.05) on performance and carcass yield. Supplementation of MO, LO or FO significantly(P < 0.01) increased the n-3 PUFA, lowered the n-6 PUFA deposition and n-6:n-3 ratio in breast and thigh without affecting the organoleptic characters(appearance, flavour, juiciness, tenderness and overall acceptability) of meat.However, thiobarbituric acid reacting substances concentration in meat was increased(P < 0.01) with LO and FO supplementation compared with SFO. 6Use of the liquisolid compact technique for improvement of the dissolution rate of valsartan显示文摘The aim of this study was to improve the dissolution rate of the poorly soluble drug valsartan by delivering the drug as a liquisolid compact.Liquisolid compacts were prepared using propylene glycol as solvent,Avicel PH102 as carrier,and Aerosil 200 as the coating material.The crystallinity of the newly formulated drug and the interaction between excipients was examined by X-ray powder diffraction and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,respectively.The dissolution studies for the liquisolid formula-tion and the marketed product were carried out at different pH values.The results showed no change in the crystallinity of the drug and no interaction between excipients.The dissolution efficiency of valsartan at 15 min was increased from 4.02% for plain drug and 13.58% for marketed product to 29.47% for the liquisolid formulation.The increase in the dissolution rate was also found to be significant compared to the marketed product at lower pH values,simulating the gastric environment where valsartan is largely absorbed.The liquisolid technique appears to be a promising approach for improving the dissolution of poorly soluble drugs like valsartan.Chella Naveen Nalini Shastri Rama Rao Tadikonda 2012Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2012,2,5:4
7Diversification of primary gene pool through introgression of resistance to foliar diseases from synthetic amphidiploids to cultivated groundnut(Arachis hypogaea L.)显示文摘Groundnut(Arachis hypogaea L.)is widely grown and consumed around the world and is considered to have originated from a single hybridization event between two wild diploids.The utilization of wild germplasm in breeding programs has been restricted by reproductive barriers between wild and cultivated species and technical difficulties in making large numbers of crosses.Efforts to overcome these hurdles have resulted in the development of synthetic amphidiploids,namely ISATGR 278-18(Arachis duranesis×Arachis batizocoi)and ISATGR 5B(Arachis magna×A.batizocoi),which possess several desirable traits,including resistance to foliar diseases that generally cause huge yield losses annually in groundnut growing areas of Asia,America,and Africa.With an objective to improve foliar disease resistance,the primary gene pool was diversified by introgressing foliar disease resistance in five cultivated genotypes(ICGV 91114,ICGS 76,ICGV 91278,JL 24,and DH 86)from synthetic amphidiploids using a backcross breeding approach.Several introgression lines with resistance to two foliar diseases(rust and late leaf spot)were identified with levels of resistance equal to the donors.These backcross derived lines have shown a wide range of variation for several morphological and agronomic traits.These lines,after further evaluation and selection,can serve as donors in future breeding programs aimed atdeveloping improved cultivars with desirable agronomic traits,high resilience to biotic/abiotic stresses and a broadened genetic base.Varsha Kumari M.V.C.Gowda Vinod Tasiwal Manish K.Pandey Ramesh S.Bhat Nalini Mallikarjuna Hari D.Upadhyaya Rajeev K.Varshney 2014The Crop Journal2014,2,Z1:3

11Paddy Leaf Disease Detection Using an Optimized Deep Neural Network显示文摘Precision Agriculture is a concept of farm management which makes use of IoT and networking concepts to improve the crop.Plant diseases are one of the underlying causes in the decrease in the number of quantity and quality of the farming crops.Recognition of diseases from the plant images is an active research topic which makes use of machine learning(ML)approaches.A novel deep neural network(DNN)classification model is proposed for the identification of paddy leaf disease using plant image data.Classification errors were minimized by optimizing weights and biases in the DNN model using a crow search algorithm(CSA)during both the standard pre-training and fine-tuning processes.This DNN-CSA architecture enables the use of simplistic statistical learning techniques with a decreased computational workload,ensuring high classification accuracy.Paddy leaf images were first preprocessed,and the areas indicative of disease were initially extracted using a k-means clustering method.Thresholding was then applied to eliminate regions not indicative of disease.Next,a set of features were extracted from the previously isolated diseased regions.Finally,the classification accuracy and efficiency of the proposed DNN-CSA model were verified experimentally and shown to be superior to a support vector machine with multiple cross-fold validations.Shankaranarayanan Nalini Nagappan Krishnaraj Thangaiyan Jayasankar Kalimuthu Vinothkumar Antony Sagai Francis Britto Kamalraj Subramaniam Chokkaligam Bharatiraja 2021Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,7:2
