| 2 | Polymorphisms of MTHFD,plasma homocysteine levels, and risk of gastric cancer in ahigh-risk Chinese population显示文摘Purpose:Accumulative evidence suggests that folate has a protective effect on gastric cancer. The methylenetetrahyd-rofolate dlehydrogenase(MTHFD) plays an important role in folate and homocysteine metabolisms, and polymorphisms of MTHFD may result in disturbance of the folate-mediated homocysteine pathway. The aim of this study is to test the hypothesis that genetic variants of MTHFD and plasma homocysteine levels are associated with risk of gastric cancer and modulated by genotypes of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR). Experimental Design: We genotyped G1958A and T401C in MTHFD and C677T in MTHFR and detected total plasma homocysteine(tHcy) levels in a case-control study of 589 gastric cancer cases and 635 cancer-free controls in a high-risk Chinese population. Results:The variant genotypes of MTHFD 1958AA and 401CC were associated with a significantly increased risk of gastric canceradjusted odds ratio(OR), 2.05; 95% confidence interval(95% CI),1.34-3.13 for 1958AA; adjusted OR,1.43; 95% CI,1.14-1.80 for 401CC compared with 1958GG/GA and 401TT/TC genotypes, respectively. Both of the effects were more evident in the subjects carrying MTHFR 677CT/TT genotypes. The average tHcy level was significantly higher in gastric cancer cases than in controls(P < 0.01), and the upper quartile of tHcy (> 13.6 mu mol/L) was associated with an 82% significantly increased risk of gastric cancer, compared with the lowest quartile of tHcy(<= 8.0 pmol/L;adjusted OR,1.82; 95% CI,1.20-2.75). Conclusions:The strong associations between MTHFD variants and the plasma tHcy levels and gastric cancer risk suggest, for the first time, a possible gene-environment interaction between genetic variants of folate-metabolizing genes and high tHcy levels in gastric carcinogenesis. | Wang, L. | 4 | Pulmonary infection control window in treatment of severe respiratory failure of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases: a prospective, randomized controlled, multi-centred study显示文摘Background Early withdraw from invasive mechanical ventilation (MV) followed by noninvasive MV is a new strategy for changing modes of treatment. This study was conducted to estimate the feasibility and the efficacy of early extubation and sequential noninvasive MV commenced at beginning of pulmonary infection control window in patients with exacerbated hypercapnic respiratory failure caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). Methods A prospective, randomized controlled study was conducted in eleven teaching hospitals' respiratory or medical intensive care units in China. Ninety intubated COPD patients with severe hypercapnic respiratory failure triggered by pulmonary infection (pneumonia or purulent bronchitis) were involved in the study. When the pulmonary infection had been controlled by antibiotics and comprehensive therapy, the 'pulmonary infection control window (PIC window)' has been reached. Each case was randomly assigned to study group (extubation and noninvasive MV via facial mask immediately) or control group (invasive MV was received continuously after PIC window by using conventional weaning technique).Results Study group (n=47) and control group (n=43) had similar clinical characteristics initially and at the time of PIC window. Compared with control group, study group had shorter duration of invasive MV [(6.4±4.4) days vs (11.3±6.2) days, P=0.000], lower rate of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) (3/47 vs 12/43, P=0.014), fewer days in ICU [(12±8) days vs (16±11) days, P=0.047] and lower hospital mortality (1/47 vs 7/43, P=0.025).Conclusions In COPD patients requiring intubation and invasive MV for hypercapnic respiratory failure, which is exacerbated by pulmonary infection, early extubation followed by noninvasive MV initiated at the start of PIC window may decrease significantly the duration of invasive MV, the risk of VAP and hospital mortality. | Wang, C Zhan, QY Cao, ZX Wei, LQ Cheng, ZZ Liu, S Zhang, JL Chen, RC Luo, Q Niu, SF Zhu, L Wu, DW Fang, BM Wu, TH Wang, CZ Liu, YN | 2005 | Chinese Medical Journal2005,,19: | 6 |
| 5 | Identifi cation of a novel male sterile wheat mutant dms conferring dwarf status and multi-pistils显示文摘Plant height and fertility are two important traits of wheat(Triticum aestivum L.), whose mutants are ideal materials for studies on molecular mechanisms of stem and floral organ development. In this study, we identified a dwarf, multi-pistil and male sterile(dms hereafter) wheat mutant from Zhoumai 18. Simple sequence repeat(SSR) marker assay with 181 primer pairs showed that only one locus of GWM148-2B was divergent between Zhoumai 18 and dms. There were three typical phenotypes in the progeny of dms, tall(T; ca. 0.8 m), semi-dwarf(M; ca. 0.6 m) and dwarf(D; under 0.3 m) plants. Morphological investigation indicated that the internode length of M was shortened by about 20–50 mm each; the internode number of D was 2 less than that of T and Zhoumai 18, and its internode length was shorter also. The pollen vigor and hybridization test demonstrated that dms mutant was male sterility. Segregated phenotypes in progeny of M suggested that the multi-pistils and sterility were controlled by one recessive gene locus which was designated as dms temporarily, and the plant height was controlled by a semi-dominant gene locus Dms. Therefore, progeny individuals of the dms had three genotypes, Dms Dms for tall plants, Dmsdms for semi-dwarf plants and dmsdms for dwarf plants. The mutant progenies were individually selected and propagated for more than 6 generations, thus a set of near isogenic lines of T, M and D for dms were developed. | 6 | Meteorological conditions of ice accretion based on real-time observation of high voltage transmission line显示文摘Meteorological conditions during ice accretion on the 500 kV high voltage transmission lines and test cables are presented, together with a calculation of liquid water content (LWC). The data include meteorological observations and real-time ice accretion on the transmission lines of the central China power grid, from 2008 to 2009 in Hubei Province. Also included are observations of ice thickness, microphysics of fog droplets, and other relevant data from a nearby automated weather station at Enshi radar station, from January to March 2009. Results show that temperature at Zhangen tower #307 was correlated with the temperature at Enshi radar station. The temperature on the surface of the high voltage transmission line was 2-4°C higher than ambient air temperature, although the temperatures were positively correlated. Ice formation temperature was about -2°C and ice shedding temperature was about -2 to -1°C on the high voltage transmission line, both of which were lower than the temperature threshold values on the test cable. Ice thickness was significantly affected by temperature variation when the ice was thin. | 7 | Optimized design and performance evaluation of an electric cup-chain potato metering device显示文摘The cup-chain metering device is commonly used in potato planters despite its problems of missing-seeding,double-seeding and ground wheel sliding.A mechanical-electrical design was developed for planters to resolve these problems.A regression experiment was conducted with three factors(chain speed,chain tightening distance and cup tilting)and two indicators(missing-seeding rate and double-seeding rate).Based on the results of regression experiment,a numerical regression model was built and a multi-objective optimization method was used to get an optimal solution.Subsequently,the optimized device was tested in the field.The device design presents a tilting seed cup with a guard plate and an electric control system.The laboratory test showed that the missing-seeding rate increased with the chain speed.It initially decreases and then increases with the chain tightening distance and cup tilting angle.The double-seeding rate declines with chain speed.It increases initially and declines afterward with the chain tightening distance.The optimization resulted in a missing-seeding rate of 4.39%and a double-seeding rate of 8.78%under the parameters of 0.32 m/s seeding speed,0.94×10-3 m tightening distance,and 12.5°cup tilting angle.The field test demonstrated that electric control instead of ground wheel-driven chain enables fast seeding and precise intra-row seeding distance. | Niu Kang Fang Xianfa Liu Yangchun Lü Chengxu Yuan Yanwei | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,2: | 5 |
| 8 | Observational Study on the Supercooled Fog Droplet Spectrum Distribution and Icing Accumulation Mechanism in Lushan, Southeast China显示文摘A fog monitor, hotplate total precipitation sensor, weather identifier and visibility sensor, ultrasonic wind speed meter,an icing gradient observation frame, and an automated weather station were involved in the observations at the Lushan Meteorological Bureau of Jiangxi Province, China. In this study, for the icing process under a cold surge from 20–25 January2016, the duration, frequency, and spectrum distribution of agglomerate fog were analyzed. The effects of rain, snow, and supercooled fog on icing growth were studied and the icing and meteorological conditions at two heights(10 m and 1.5 m)were compared. There were 218 agglomerate fogs in this icing process, of which agglomerate fogs with durations less than and greater than 10 min accounted for 91.3% and 8.7%, respectively. The average time interval was 10.3 min. The fog droplet number concentration for sizes 2–15 μm and 30–50 μm increased during rainfall, and that for 2–27 μm decreased during snowfall. Icing grew rapidly(1.3 mm h-1) in the freezing rain phase but slowly(0.1 mm h-1) during the dry snow phase. Intensive supercooled fog, lower temperatures and increased wind speed all favored icing growth during dry snow(0.5 mm h-1). There were significant differences in the thickness, duration, density, and growth mechanism of icing at the heights of 10 m and 1.5 m.
