1How does contemporary climate versus climate change velocity affect endemic plant species richness in China?显示文摘Climate change is considered a top threat to biodiversity, but the relative roles of contemporary climate versus the rate of climate change in determining spatial patterns of biodiversity are far from clear. China has a very diverse flora and harbors a high percentage of endemic species, but the mechanisms underlying spatial patterns of plant endemism are poorly understood. This study explores the geographical patterns of a representative sample of 555 endemic seed plant species at the scale of 0.5° latitude 9 0.5° longitude. Ordinary least squares and spatial autoregressive models were compared to assess the relationship between richness of endemics and the rate of climate change in the past century, as well as a group of contemporary climate variables. In China, a high level of endemism was associated with high elevation and low rate of climate change. However, contemporary climate had a stronger impact than climate change velocity in the past century on endemic species richness patterns. Specifically,mean annual precipitation and annual range of temperature were important contemporary climatic factors. The rate of change of annual mean temperature, but not that of annual precipitation, also significantly contributed to the spatial pattern of plant endemic species richness. We found no significant relationship between topographic variation and endemic species richness, while temperature variability at multiple time scales was strongly correlated with the species richness pattern. 3Sexual Dimorphism and Geographic Variation in the Asian Lance-headed Pitviper Protobothrops mucrosquamatus in the China's Mainland显示文摘Sexual dimorphism(SD) and geographic variation(GV) are widespread in snakes. Protobothrops mucrosquamatus(Cantor 1839) is one of the most common Asian venomous snakes with a wide geographical distribution. We examined SD and GV patterns for this species by using multivariate statistical analyses of external morphological characters scored from specimens from the China's Mainland. The result displayed that SD was significant in several external characters in P. mucrosquamatus, and the male P. mucrosquamatus formed two distinct clusters(Hainan Island and China's Mainland), but the females did not. 5Design and comparative analysis of self-propelling drill bit applied to deep-sea stratum drilling robot显示文摘Robotic subsea stratum drilling robot is a method for new subsea stratigraphic geological investigation and resource exploration.Resistance at the front end is the main source of resistance to the robot’s motion in the strata.Since there is no continuous and strong downward drilling force as in conventional drilling rigs,robot movement relies heavily on the drill bit to reduce the drilling resistance.In this study we propose a self-propelling drill bit that can discharge soil debris to provide propulsive force and reduce the resistance.The key parameter of the drill bit design,the spiral blade lead angle,was determined by theoretical analysis of the drill bit’s soil discharging effect.To verify the structural advantages of the self-propelling drill bit in reducing resistance,a comparative analysis with a conventional conical drill bit was conducted.The drilling process of both bits was simulated using finite element simulation at various rotation speeds,the penetration force and torque data of both drill bits were obtained,and tests prepared accordingly in subsea soil were conducted.The simulations and tests verified that the penetration force of the self-propelling drill bit was lower than that of the conventional conical drill bit.The self-propelling drill bit can reduce the resistance effectively,and may play an important role in the stratum movement of drilling robots.Peihao ZHANG Xingshuang LIN Hao WANG Jiawang CHEN Zhenwei TIAN Zixin WENG Ziqiang REN Peng ZHOU 2023Journal of Zhejiang University-Science A(Applied Physics & Engineering)2023,24,10:0

7Distribution Characteristics of the Heavy Metal Cd in the Irrigation Water-Cultivated Soil-Fertilizer-Crop Ecosystem显示文摘Shuangqiao Countryside of Neijiang City in hilly ground area in the midland of Sichuan Province was chosen as the study geographic area to survey and analyze the content distribution characteristics of the Cd in the irrigation water,ground water mud,surface layer cultivated soil,profile soil and the fertilizer which were often used in the locality,and in different crops set earth,fructification as well. The results showed that the content of Cd in the irrigation and ground water mud respectively comply with the national agriculture use irrigation standard and the contamination control standard value in agriculture use mud ( GB4284-84) respectively. The average contents in the surface cultivated soil and each layer of soil profile are all above the background level of Chengdu economic region ( 44% ) ,referring to a large scale pollution risk. The average value of Cd element in fertilizer was 1. 81 μg / g,which was higher than the third class standard of national soil environment quality; The average content of Cd element in the crops' set earth was 0. 410-0. 439 μg / g,which was higher than the second class standard of national soil environment quality and there was a measure of cumulation; The average values of Cd in crops' fructificationwas all below the primary standard of national soil environment quality,and the bioamplification coefficient sorting was CF( Cdpeanut) > CF( Cdcitrus) > CF ( Cdrice) > CF( Cdcorn) . Irrigation water had little influence on the soil Cd pollution,where fertilizer using was closely related to the Cd pollution in the surface cultivated soil in the survey area and had a certain influence on the Cd cumulation in the crops. 8Environmental Drivers and Spatial Prediction of the Critically Endangered Species Thuja sutchuenensis in Sichuan-Chongqing,China显示文摘Identifying the ecological environment suitable for the growth of Thuja sutchuenensis and predicting other potential distribution areas are essential to protect this endangered species. After selecting 24 environmental factors thatcould affect the distribution of T. sutchuenensis, including climate, topography, soil and Normalized DifferenceVegetation Index (NDVI), we adopted the Random Forest-MaxEnt integrated model to analyze our data. Basedon the Random Forest study, the contribution of the mean temperature of the warmest quarter, mean temperatureof the coldest quarter, annual mean temperature and mean temperature of the driest quarter was large. Based onMaxEnt model prediction outputs, the potential distribution map not only identified areas that originallyrecorded T. sutchuenensis, such as Xuanhan County, Kai County and Chengkou County, but also identified highlysuitable distribution areas where T. sutchuenensis may exist, including Wanyuan County, Sichuan Province, andthe junction of Chongqing and Hubei Province. This provides a more explicit geographic range for ex situ conservation and reintroduction of T. sutchuenensis. Our results also indicate that, in addition to climate factors,topography and soil factors are also important environmental factors that affect distribution. 9Molecular Phylogeny of the Genus Gloydius(Serpentes: Crotalinae)显示文摘Based on two mitochondrial genes(cyt b, ND4) and one nuclear gene(c-mos), we explored the relationships within the Asian pit viper genus Gloydius. In total, 23 samples representing 10 species were analyzed. All phyloge- netic analyses support a monophyletic Gloydius with two major clades, one comprising G. brevicaudus, G. blomhof- fii, and G. ussuriensis with the sister clade consisting of G. intermedius, G. saxatilis, G. halys and G. shedaoensis. The relationships among the three montane species G. strauchi, G. qinlingensis and G. liupanensis, as well as the two monophyletic groups, are unstable, and discussed. Divergence date estimation indicates that Gloydius lineage formed 15 Ma and diversification of the genus occurred at 9.89 Ma.
