| 2 | Tree-ring precipitation records from Baiyinaobao, Inner Mongolia since A.D. 1838显示文摘Correlation function analysis shows that total precipitation from April to early July (to July 10) in growing season limits the ring width of Picea Koraiensis significantly in Baiyinaobao, Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia. Thus a transfer function is designed to reconstruct the total precipitation from April to early July over the region for the last 160 years. The explained variance of the reconstruction is 49.3% (and 45.7% when adjusted for loss of degrees of freedom, N = 31, r = 0.702, F = 13.608, p < 0.0001). There are three relatively wet periods in the reconstruction which are: 1869—1875, 18861921 and 19431968, and four relatively dry periods: 1851—1868, 1876—1885, 1922—1943 and 1969—1999. Among them, the wet periods of 1886—1921 and 1943—1968, and the dry period of 1922—1943 appeared almost at the same time with those in Mt. Qilian region. Meanwhile, the dry period of 1922—1943 corresponds to high temperature and low rainfall during the 1920s and thereafter, and wetness of 1943—1968 corresponds very well to low temperature and more precipitation after the 1940s in Northwest, Northern China and the Changjiang River drainage basin. Calculation shows that the reconstruction series is significantly correlated with local dry-wet index (r = -0.234, p < 0.007, N = 143). Wavelet analysis indicates that there is a 22-a cycle in the precipitation of April to early July during 18381920, and an 11-a cycle during 1920—1952. No more cycles that reach 95% confidence limits are identified after 1953. The precipitation from April to early July quickly dropped into low during the 1920s. | 3 | Anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects of rosuvastatin by regulation of oxidative stress in a dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis model显示文摘AIM To evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects of rosuvastatin by regulation of oxidative stress in a dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced colitis model.METHODS An acute colitis mouse model was induced by oral administration of 5% DSS in the drinking water for 7 d. In the treated group, rosuvastatin(0.3 mg/kg per day) was administered orally before and after DSS administration for 21 d. On day 21, mice were sacrificed and the colons were removed for macroscopic examination, histology, and Western blot analysis. In the in vitro study, IEC-6 cells were stimulated with50 ng/m L tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α and then treated with or without rosuvastatin(2 μmol/L). The levels of reactive oxygen species(ROS), inflammatory mediators, and apoptotic markers were measured. RESULTS In DSS-induced colitis mice, rosuvastatin treatment significantly reduced the disease activity index and histological damage score compared to untreated mice(P < 0.05). Rosuvastatin also attenuated the DSSinduced increase of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine and NADPH oxidase-1 expression in colon tissue. Multiplex ELISA analysis revealed that rosuvastatin treatment reduced the DSS-induced increase of serum IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-12 and IL-17, and G-CSF levels. The increased levels of cleaved caspase-3, caspase-7, and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase in the DSS group were attenuated by rosuvastatin treatment. In vitro, rosuvastatin significantly reduced the production of ROS, inflammatory mediators and apoptotic markers in TNF-α-treated IEC-6 cells(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION Rosuvastatin had the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects in DSS-induced colitis model. | 4 | Endoscopic features suggesting gastric cancer in biopsy-proven gastric adenoma with high-grade neoplasia显示文摘AIM:To elucidate the endoscopic features that predict the cancer following endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)in patients with high-grade neoplasia(HGN).METHODS:We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients who underwent ESD of gastric neoplasms from January 2007 to September 2010.ESD was performed in 555 cases involving 550 patients.A total of 112 lesions from 110 consecutive patients were initially diagnosed as HGN without cancer by forceps biopsy,and later underwent ESD.We classified lesions into two groups according to histologic discrepancies between the biopsy and ESD diagnosis.Gastric adenoma in the final diagnosis by ESD specimens were defined as adenoma group.Lesions with coexisting cancer after ESD were defined as cancer group.RESULTS:The mean age was 65.3 years,and 81 patients were male.There was no significant difference in the age or gender distribution between the adenoma(n=52)and cancer(n=60)groups.Thirty-six of these lesions(32.1%)showed histologic concordance between the forceps biopsy and ESD specimens,16(14.3%)showed a downgraded histology(low-grade neoplasia),and 60(53.6%)showed an upgraded histology(cancer).A red color change of the mucosal surface on endoscopy was found in 27/52(51.9%)of cases in the adenoma group and in 46/60(76.7%)of cases in the cancer group(P=0.006).Ulceration of the mucosal surface on endoscopy was found in 5(9.6%)of 52 lesions in the adenoma group and in 17(28.3%)of 60 lesions in the cancer group(P=0.013).In the multivariate analysis,a reddish surface color change and mucosal ulceration were significant predictive factors correlated with cancer after ESD of the HGN by forceps biopsy.CONCLUSION:HGN with a red color change or mucosal ulceration correlated with the presence of gastric cancer.These finding may help to guide the diagnosis and treatment. | Jung Ho Kim Yoon Jae Kim Jungsuk An Jong Joon Lee Jae Hee Cho Kyoung Oh Kim Jun-Won Chung Kwang An Kwon Dong Kyun Park Ju Hyun Kim | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，34： | 10 |

Shenzhouraptor sinensis is characterized by no teeth in its mouth, the forelimbs longer than the hindlimbs, a long tail with more than 23 caudal vertebrae, U-shaped wishbone, and remiges longer than the total length of ulna and manus. | 8 | Surgical failure after colonic stenting as a bridge to surgery显示文摘AIM: To identify risk factors for surgical failure after colonic stenting as a bridge to surgery in left-sided malignant colonic obstruction.METHODS: The medical records of patients who underwent stent insertion for malignant colonic obstruction between February 2004 and August 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with malignant colonic obstruction had overt clinical symptoms and signs of obstruction. Malignant colonic obstruction was diagnosed by computed tomography and colonoscopy. A total of 181 patients underwent stent insertion during the study period; of these, 68 consecutive patientswere included in our study when they had undergone stent placement as a bridge to surgery in acute leftsided malignant colonic obstruction due to primary colon cancer.RESULTS: Out of 68 patients, forty-eight(70.6%) were male, and the mean age was 64.9(range, 38-89) years. The technical and clinical success rates were 97.1%(66/68) and 88.2%(60/68), respectively. Overall, 85.3%(58/68) of patients underwent primary tumor resection and primary anastomosis. Surgically successful preoperative colonic stenting was achieved in 77.9%(53/68). The mean duration, defined as the time between the SEMS attempt and surgery, was 11.3 d(range, 0-26 d). The mean hospital stay after surgery was 12.5 d(range, 6-55 d). On multivariate analysis, the use of multiple self-expanding metal stents(OR = 28.872; 95%CI: 1.939-429.956, P = 0.015) was a significant independent risk factor for surgical failure of preoperative stenting as a bridge to surgery. | 9 | Backward Propagation of Otoacoustic Emissions显示文摘Normal mammalian ears not only detect but also generate sounds. The ear-generated sounds, i.e., otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), can be measured in the external ear canal using a tiny sensitive microphone. In spite of wide applications of OAEs in diagnosis of hearing disorders and in studies of cochlear functions, the question of how the cochlea emits sounds remains unclear. The current dominating theory is that the OAE reaches the cochlear base through a backward traveling wave. However, recently published works, including experimental data on the spatial pattern of basilar membrane vibrations at the emission frequency, demonstrated only forward traveling waves and no signs of backward traveling waves. These new findings indicate that the cochlea emits sounds through cochlear fluids as compression waves rather than through the basilar membrane as backward traveling waves. | 11 | CO2/CH4 separation using inside coated thin film composite hollow fiber membranes prepared by interfacial polymerization显示文摘Carbon dioxide(CO_2) is greenhouse gas which originates primarily as a main combustion product of biogas and landfill gas. To separate this gas, an inside coated thin film composite(TFC) hollow fiber membrane was developed by interfacial polymerization between 1,3–cyclohexanebis–methylamine(CHMA) and trimesoyl chloride(TMC). ATR-FTIR, SEM and AFM were used to characterize the active thin layer formed inside the PSf hollow fiber. The separation behavior of the CHMA-TMC/PSf membrane was scrutinized by studying various effects like feed gas pressure and temperature. Furthermore, the influence of CHMA concentration and TMC concentration on membrane morphology and performance were investigated. As a result, it was found that mutually the CHMA concentration and TMC concentration play key roles in determining membrane morphology and performance. Moreover, the CHMA-TMC/PSf composite membrane showed good CO_2/CH_4 separation performance. For CO_2/CH_4 mixture gas(30/70 by volume) test, the membrane(PD1 prepared by CHMA 1.0% and TMC 0.5%) showed a CO_2 permeance of 25 GPU and the best CO_2/CH_4 selectivity of 28 at stage cut of 0.1. | 14 | Risk factors for tuberculosis after gastrectomy in gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To examine incidence of tuberculosis(TB) in gastrectomy patients and investigate the risk factors for developing TB after gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer.METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of gastrectomy patients with gastric cancer was performed at a university-affiliated hospital in Seoul, South Korea between January 2007 and December 2009. We reviewed patient medical records and collected data associated with the risk of TB, surgery, and gastric cancer. Standardized incidence ratios(SIRs) of TB were calculated to compare the incidence of TB in gastrectomy patients with that in the general Korean population, and risk factors for TB after gastrectomies were analyzed.RESULTS: Among the 1776 gastrectomy patients, 0.9%(16/1776) developed post-gastrectomy TB, with an incidence of 223.7 cases per 100000 patients per year. The overall incidence of TB in gastrectomy patients, adjusted by sex and age, was significantly higher thanthat in the general population(SIR = 2.22, 95%CI: 1.27-3.60). Previous TB infection [odds ratio(OR) = 7.1, P < 0.001], lower body mass index(BMI)(kg/m2; OR = 1.21, P = 0.043) and gastrectomy extent(total gastrectomy vs subtotal gastrectomy)(OR = 3.48, P = 0.017) were significant risk factors for TB after gastrectomy in a multivariate analysis.CONCLUSION: TB incidence after gastrectomy is higher than that in the general population. | 16 | Comparison of litterfall production in three forest types in Jeju Island, South Korea显示文摘Litterfall, which is influenced by physical and biological factors, is a major pathway for carbon and nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems. The purpose of this study was to investigate monthly litterfall production in three forests in Jeju Island differentiated by forest composition and precipitation: Cheongsu(Quercus glauca as the dominant species;low precipitation), Seonheulb(Q. glauca as the dominant species;high precipitation), and Seonheulm(Q. glauca and Pinus thunbergii as the dominant species;high precipitation). Litterfall was collected monthly from April to December 2015 and divided into leaf litter, twig, bark, seeds, and unidentified materials.Seasonal patterns of litterfall production varied across stands according to their species composition. However,the amount of leaf litterfall and total litterfall were comparable among stands, ranging from 362 to 375 g m-2 for leaf litter and 524 g m-2 to 580 g m-2 for total litterfall.Oak leaf litter in May was the highest in all stands, while needle litter was the highest in December in Seonheulm.High twig litterfall in July may be attributable to high rainfall with strong winds and storms during the rainy season.
