1Information Theory of Cartography:An Information-theoretic Framework for Cartographic Communication显示文摘Map is one of the communication means created by human being.Cartographers have been making efforts on the comparison of maps to natural languages so as to establish a'cartographic language'or'map language'.One of such efforts is to adopt the Shannon’s Information Theory originated in digital communication into cartography so as to establish an entropy-based cartographic communication theory.However,success has been very limited although research work had started as early as the mid-1960 s.It is then found that the bottleneck problem was the lack of appropriate measures for the spatial(configurational)information of(graphic and image)maps,as the classic Shannon entropy is only capable of characterizing statistical information but fails to capture the configurational information of(graphic and image)maps.Fortunately,after over 40-year development,some bottleneck problems have been solved.More precisely,generalized Shannon entropies for metric and thematic information of(graphic)maps have been developed and the first feasible solution for computing the Boltzmann entropy of image maps has been invented,which is capable of measuring the spatial information of not only numerical images but also categorical maps.With such progress,it is now feasible to build the'Information Theory of Cartography'.In this paper,a framework for such a theory is proposed and some key issues are identified.For these issues,some have already been tackled while others still need efforts.As a result,a research agenda is set for future action.After all these issues are tackled,the theory will become matured so as to become a theoretic basis of cartography.It is expected that the Information Theory of Cartography will play an increasingly important role in the discipline of cartography because more and more researchers have advocated that information is more fundamental than matter and energy.Zhilin LI Peichao GAO Zhu XU 2021Journal of Geodesy and Geoinformation Science2021,4,1:11
2GIS-based analysis of population exposure to PM2.5 air pollution-A case study of Beijing显示文摘PM_(2.5), formally defined as particulate matter with diameter less than 2.5 μm, is one of most harmful air pollutants threatening human health. Numerous epidemiological studies have shown that both short-term and long-term exposures to PM_(2.5) are strongly linked with respiratory diseases. In this study, various types of spatio-temporal data were collected and used to estimate the spatio-temporal variation of PM_(2.5) exposure in Beijing in 2014. The seasonal and daily variation of the population-weighted exposure level(PWEL) in 2014 was estimated and compared. The results show that the population exposure to ambient air pollution differs significantly in the four seasons, and the exposure levels in winter and spring are notably higher than the other seasons; the exposure level changes greatly from North to South, and each sub-district maintains similarity to neighboring sub-districts.Zhao Liu Meihui Xie Kun Tian Peichao Gao 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,9:10
3Laser processed micro-supercapacitors based on carbon nanotubes/manganese dioxide nanosheets composite with excellent electrochemical performance and aesthetic property显示文摘Micro-supercapacitors with excellent electrochemical performance and aesthetic property are realized using the carbon nanotubes/manganese dioxide nanosheets(CNTs/δ-MnO_2) composite as electrodes.This CNTs/d-MnO_2 nanocomposite is excellently compatible with the slurry dispensing process for electrode fabrication, and thus is conducive for preparing thick electrode films, which exhibits a specific capacitance of 257 F/g with an electrode thickness of 13μm. By involving laser-scribing technique, the electrode film can be patterned with a high resolution and fabricated into a planar micro-supercapacitor,showing the maximum energy density of 6.83 mWh/cm^3 at the power density of 154.3 mW/cm^3, and maintained a value of 2.71 mWh/cm^3 at the maximum power density of 2557.5 mW/cm^3. Considering the versatility of the laser-scribing technical platform, the micro-supercapacitors fabricated in this way exhibit excellent aesthetic property and can cater to various miniaturized wearable electronic applications. 4Design Principle,Optimization Strategies,and Future Perspectives of Anode‑Free Configurations for High‑Energy Rechargeable Metal Batteries显示文摘Metal anodes(e.g.,lithium,sodium and zinc metal anodes)based on a unique plating/stripping mechanism have been well recognized as the most promising anodes for next-generation high-energy metal batteries owing to their superior theoretical specific capacities and low redox potentials.However,realizing full utilization and the theoretical capacity of metal anodes remains challenging because of their high reactivity,poor reversibility,and nonplanar metal evolution patterns,which lead to irreversible loss of active metals and the electrolyte.To minimize the above issues,excess metal sources and flooded electrolytes are generally used for laboratory-based studies.Despite the superior cycling performance achieved for these cells,the metal-anode-excess design deviates from practical applications due to the low anode utilization,highly inflated coulombic efficiency,and undesirable volumetric capacity.In contrast,anode-free configurations can overcome these draw-backs while reducing fabrication costs and improving cell safety.In this review,the significance of anode-free configurations is elaborated,and different types of anode-free cells are introduced,including reported designs and proposed feasible yet unexplored concepts.The optimization strategies for anode-free lithium,sodium,zinc,and aluminum metal batteries are summarized.Most importantly,the remaining challenges for extending the cycle life of anode-free cells are discussed,and the requirements for anode-free cells to reach practical applications are highlighted.This comprehensive review is expected to draw more attention to anode-free configurations and bring new inspiration to the design of high-energy metal batteries.Wentao Yao Peichao Zou Min Wang Houchao Zhan Feiyu Kang Cheng Yang 2021Electrochemical Energy Reviews2021,4,3:3
5Exploring detailed urban-rural development under intersecting population growth and food production scenarios: Trajectories for China’s most populous agricultural province to 2030显示文摘Henan,China,is likely the most populous agricultural province worldwide.It is China’s major grain-producing area,with a continuously increasing population(96 million),which is greater than 93%of countries worldwide.However,this province has been experiencing unprecedented urbanization recently due to national policies and measures,such as a plan to build the capital city of Henan into a national center,resulting in severe conflicts in land use that endanger food security regionally and globally.To facilitate decision-making on this problem,we explored the detailed urban-rural development of Henan by modeling these land-use conflicts.Conventional modeling of a region’s urban-rural development is to navigate trade-offs(a)solely between different land-use types(b)by assuming that each type provides a single service(e.g.,croplands produce all the food),and(c)under a polynomial regression-based projection of population.In contrast,we considered both land-use type and intensity,resulting in a detailed land system for Henan.By introducing the concept of land system services(e.g.,food production),we established a many-to-many relationship between land system classes and services.These allowed us to carry out the most comprehensive modeling of Henan’s urban-rural development under eighteen combined scenarios of population growth and land-use policies on food production.The modeling results of these scenarios provide a solid basis for making decisions regarding Henan’s urban-rural development.We also revealed the influence mechanism of population growth,land-use policies,and their combinations,highlighting the benefits of securing food production by agricultural intensification rather than merely expanding the area of cropland.GAO Peichao XIE Yiru SONG Changqing CHENG Changxiu YE Sijing 2023Journal of Geographical Sciences2023,33,2:2
6Extraordinary characteristics for one-dimensional parity-time-symmetric periodic ring optical waveguide networks显示文摘In this paper, we design a one-dimensional(1D) parity-time-symmetric periodic ring optical waveguide network(PTSPROWN) and investigate its extraordinary optical characteristics. It is found that quite different from traditional vacuum/dielectric optical waveguide networks, 1D PTSPROWN cannot produce a photonic ordinary propagation mode, but can generate simultaneously two kinds of photonic nonpropagation modes: attenuation propagation mode and gain propagation mode. It creates neither passband nor stopband and possesses no photonic band structure. This makes 1D PTSPROWN possess richer spontaneous PT-symmetric breaking points and causes interesting extremum spontaneous PT-symmetric breaking points to appear, where electromagnetic waves can create ultrastrong extraordinary transmission, reflection, and localization, and the maximum can arrive at 6.6556 × 10^(12) and is more than 7 orders of magnitude larger than the results reported previously.1D PTSPROWN may possess potential in designing high-efficiency optical energy saver devices, optical amplifiers, optical switches with ultrahigh monochromaticity, and so on.YAN ZHI XIANGBO YANG JIAYE WU SHIPING DU PEICHAO CAO DONGMEI DENG CHENGYI TIMON LIU 2018Photonics Research2018,6,6:2

15A lean-zinc anode battery based on metal-organic framework-derived carbon显示文摘Improving zinc metal(Zn^(0))reversibility and minimizing the N/P ratio are critical to boosting the energy density of Zn^(0) batteries.However,in reality,an excess Zn source is usually adopted to offset the irreversible zinc loss and guarantee sufficient zinc cycling,which sacrifices the energy density and leads to poor practicability of Zn^(0) batteries.To address the above conundrum,here,we report a lean-Zn and hierarchical anode based on metal-organic framework(MOF)-derived carbon,where trace Zn^(0) is pre-reserved within the anode structure to make up for any irreversible zinc source loss.This allows us to construct low N/P ratio Zn^(0) full cells when coupling the lean-Zn anode with Zn-containing cathodes.Impressively,high Zn^(0) reversibility(average Coulombic efficiency of 99.4% for 3000 cycles)and long full-cell lifetime(92% capacity retention after 900 cycles)were realized even under the harsh lean-Zn condition(N/P ratio:1.34).The excellent Zn reversibility is attributed to the hierarchy structure that homogenizes zinc ion flux and electric field distribution,as confirmed by theoretical simulations,which therefore stabilizes Zn^(0) evolution.The lean-Zn anode design strategy will provide new insights into construction of high-energy Zn^(0) batteries for practical applications.Chao Li Liheng Liang Xuhui Liu Ning Cao Qingguo Shao Peichao Zou Xiaobei Zang 2023Carbon Energy2023,5,4:1
