| 1 | Characterisation and seasonal variations of particles in the atmosphere of rural, urban and industrial areas:Organic compounds显示文摘Atmospheric aerosol samples(PM_(2.5–0.3), i.e., atmospheric particles ranging from 0.3 to2.5 μm) were collected during two periods: spring–summer 2008 and autumn–winter 2008–2009, using high volume samplers equipped with cascade impactors. Two sites located in the Northern France were compared in this study: a highly industrialised city(Dunkirk) and a rural site(Rubrouck). Physicochemical analysis of particulate matter(PM) was undertaken to propose parameters that could be used to distinguish the various sources and to exhibit seasonal variations but also to provide knowledge of chemical element composition for the interpretation of future toxicological studies. The study showed that PM2.5–0.3concentration in the atmosphere of the rural area remains stable along the year and was significantly lower than in the urban or industrial ones, for which concentrations increase during winter.High concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs), dioxins, furans and dioxin like polychlorinated biphenyls(DL-PCBs), generated by industrial activities, traffic and municipal wastes incineration were detected in the samples. Specific criteria like Carbon Preference Index(CPI) and Combustion PAHs/Total PAHs ratio(CPAHs/TPAHs) were used to identify the possible sources of atmospheric pollution. | 2 | A comprehensive musculoskeletal and peripheral nervous system assessment of war-related bilateral upper extremity amputees显示文摘Background: Upper limb amputations are one of the unpleasant war injuries that armed forces are exposed to frequently. The present study aimed to assess the musculoskeletal and peripheral nervous systems in Iraq-Iran war veterans with bilateral upper extremity amputation.Methods: The study consisted of taking a history and clinical examinations including demographic data, presence and location of pain, level of amputation, passive and active ranges of movement of the joints across the upper and lower extremities and spine, manual palpation, neurological examination, blood circulation pulses and issues related to a prosthetic limb. In this study, 103 Iranian bilateral upper extremity amputees(206 amputations) from the IranIraq war were evaluated, and a detailed questionnaire was also administered.Results: The most common level of amputation was the finger or wrist level(108, 52.4%). Based on clinical examination, we found high frequencies of limited active and passive joint range of movement across the scapula, shoulder, elbow, wrist and metacarpophalangeal, interphalangeal and thumb joints. Based on muscle strength testing, we found varying degrees of weakness across the upper limbs. Musculoskeletal disorders included epicondylitis(65, 31.6%), rotator cuff injury(24, 11.7%), bicipital tendonitis(69, 33.5%), shoulder drop(42, 20.4%) and muscle atrophy(19, 9.2%). Peripheral nerve disorders included carpal tunnel syndrome in 13(6.3%) and unilateral brachial plexus injury in 1(1%). Fifty-three(51.5%) were diagnosed with facet joint syndrome at the level of the cervical spine(the most frequent site). Using a prosthesis was reported by 65(63.1%), both left and right sides. | 3 | Convective heat transfer from two rotating circular cylinders in tandem arrangement by using lattice Boltzmann method显示文摘The numerical investigation of the two-dimensional laminar flow past two ro- tating circular cylinders in the tandem arrangement is conducted by the lattice Boltzmann method. The numerical strategy is used for dealing with curved and moving boundaries of the second-order accuracy for velocity and temperature fields. The effects of various rotational speed ratios and gap spacing are studied with the Reynolds number of 100 and the Prandtl number of 0.71. A varied range of rotational speed ratios are investigated for four different gap spacing, i.e., 3.0, 1.5, 0.7, and 0.2. The results show that, for the first cylinder, the lift and drag coefficients for large gap spacing are similar to those for a single cylinder; for the second cylinder, the lift coefficient descends with the increase in the angular velocity for all gap spacing, while the drag coefficient ascends except for the gap spacing of 3.0. The results of the averaged periodic Nusselt number on the surface of the cylinders show that, for small distances between the cylinders and low angular velocities, conduction is a dominant mechanism of heat transfer, but for large distances and high angular velocities, convection is the main mechanism of heat transfer. | H.
