5Microstructure and mechanical properties of gadolinium-and misch metal-added Mg-Al alloy显示文摘The study investigates the effects of individual and combined additions of gadolinium(Gd)and misch metal(MM)on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-4Al and Mg-9Al alloys.The results show that the additions significantly alter the microstructure and grain size of the base alloys.Mg-4Al based alloys have globular morphology,whereas Mg-9Al based alloys have dendritic morphology.The addition of alloying elements,Gd and MM,introduces rectangular-shaped Al_(2)Gd phase and needle-shaped Al_(11)RE_(3) phase,respectively.The best mechanical properties at room temperature are shown by Mg-9Al-2Gd alloy with tensile strength and elongation of 214 MPa and 6.0%,respectively,whereas Mg-4Al-2Gd alloy exhibits the best properties at elevated temperature(150℃)with tensile strength and elongation of 172 MPa and 14.0%,respectively.The study also reports the microhardness value of different phases along with the cast alloys.Eutectic Mg_(17)Al_(12) phase shows the highest hardness(VHN 92)followed by lamellar Mg17Al12(VHN 83)andα-Mg matrix(VHN 68).Lavish Kumar Singh Prince Joseph Amirthalingam Srinivasan Uma Thanu Subramonia Pillai Bellambettu Chandrasekhara Pai 2022Rare Metals2022,41,9:0
6Protective role of Triphala, an Indian traditional herbal formulation, against the nephrotoxic effects of bromobenzene in Wistar albino rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the nephroprotective and antioxidant properties of Triphala against bromobenzene-induced nephrotoxicity in female Wistar albino rats. METHODS: Animals were divided into five groups of six rats and treated as follows: Group I was a normal control and received no treatment, Group II received only bromobenzene(10 mmol/kg), Groups III and IV received bromobenzene and Triphala(250 and 500 mg/kg, respectively), Group V received Triphala alone(500 mg/kg), and Group VI received bromobenzene and silymarin(100 mg/kg). Antioxidant status and serum kidney functional markers were analyzed.RESULTS: Bromobenzene treatment resulted in significant(P < 0.05) decreases in the activities of antioxidant enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione-S-transferase and glutathione peroxidase as well as total reduced glutathione. There was a significant(P < 0.05) increase in lipid peroxidation in kidney tissue homogenates. There were significant(P < 0.05) reductions in the levels of serum total protein and albumin as well as significant(P < 0.05) increases in serum creatinine, urea and uric acid. The oral administration of two different doses(250 and 500 mg/kg) of Triphala in bromobenzene-treated rats normalized the tested parameters. The histopathological examinations of kidney sections of the experimental rats support the biochemical observations. 7Sustainability Evaluation of Mangrove Forest Management System of Tagbanua Tribe in Bgy. Manalo, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines显示文摘Community-based forest management agreement in the country is a needed instrument in attaining sustainability of mangrove management.Sadly,there is no assurance that the system implemented in the mangrove forest management is sustainable.So,evaluating the mangrove management sustainability of the local tribe is a viable avenue for the appropriate management.In this study,the sustainability of the mangrove management system of the Tagbanua tribe in Bgy.Manalo,Puerto Princesa City,Palawan was evaluated.The study utilized various criteria with relevant indicators of sustainable mangrove forest management in assessing the mangrove forest management system.Focused group discussions were conducted to identify the relevant sustainable mangrove forest management C&I and verifiers.Each indicator was rated using the formulated verifiers in the form of the rating scale.Through household interviews,FGD,KII,mangrove assessment,and secondary data analysis,this study also used a mathematical model on the Sustainability Index for Individual Criteria(SIIC)to evaluate the scores for individual criteria and the Overall Sustainability Index(OSI)of the community.As a result,there are a total of seven relevant criteria,and 35 relevant indicators for Mangrove Management in Barangay Manalo.Based on the individual rating of seven criteria,the overall rating of the sustainable mangrove management system is 1.80,which implies a fairly sustainable mangrove management system.Also,the computed overall sustainability index is 0.26,which is fairly or moderately sustainable.Each criterion has strengths and weaknesses and needs to be improved to have a highly sustainable mangrove management system.Mark Joseph J.Buncag Jaybie S.Arzaga Liezl F.Tangonan Jeffrey H.de Castro Mary Claire M.Villanueva Lilia Margallo Imelda R.Lactuan Sheryl G.Docto Angelo V.Garcia Princes Eunice C.Denosta Sweet Angelikate L.Villaruel 2023Journal of Environmental & Earth Sciences2023,5,2:0
