1Effect of Salicylic Acid on Salinity-induced Changes in Brassica juncea显示文摘Seeds of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea (L.) Czern. et Coss.) were exposed to 0, 50, 100 and 150 mmol/L NaCl for 8 h and seeds were sown in an earthen pot. These stressed seedlings were subsequently sprayed with 10 μmol/L salicylic acid (SA) at 30 d and were sampled at 60 d to assess the changes in growth, photosynthesis and antioxidant enzymes. The seedlings raised from the seeds treated with NaCl had significantly reduced growth and the activities of carbonic anhydrase, nitrate reductase and photosynthesis, and the decrease was proportional to the increase in NaCl concentration. However, the antioxidant enzymes (catalase, peroxidase and superoxide dismutase) and proline content was enhanced in response to NaCl and/or SA treatment, where their interaction had an additive effect. Moreover, the toxic effects generated by the lower concentration of NaCl (50 mmol/L) were completely overcome by the application of SA. 2Evaluation of the adsorption potential of titanium dioxide nanoparticles for arsenic removal显示文摘The adsorption potential of titanium dioxide(TiO2) nanoparticles for removing arsenic from drinking water was evaluated.Pure and iron-doped TiO2 particles are synthesized via sol-gel method.The synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles were then immobilized on ordinary sand for adsorption studies.Adsorption isotherms were conducted on the synthesized nanoparticles as well as the sand coated with TiO2 nanoparticles under varying conditions of air and light,namely,the air-sunlight(A-SL),air-light(AL),air-dark(AD) and nitrogen-dark(ND).X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis showed that the pure and iron-doped TiO2 nanoparticles were in 100% anatase crystalline phase with crystal sizes of 108 and 65 nm,respectively.Adsorption of arsenic on the three adsorbents was non-linear that could be described by the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models.Iron doping enhanced the adsorption capacity of TiO2 nanoparticles by arresting the grain growth and making it visible light responsive resulting in a higher affnity for arsenic.Similarly,the arsenic removal by adsorption on the sand coated with TiO2 nanoparticles was the highest among the three types of sand used.In all cases,As(V) was adsorbed more compared with As(Ⅲ).The solution pH appeared to be the most important factor in controlling the amount of arsenic adsorbed.NABI Deedar ASLAM Irfan QAZI Ishtiaq A 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,3:14

4Passive Control Reinforced Concrete Frame Mechanism with High Strength Reinforcements and Its Potential Benefits Against Earthquakes显示文摘Severe earthquakes continue to cause major catastrophes. Many devices in active, hybrid, and semi-active structural control systems which are used as controllable force devices are costly to build and maintain. The passive control reinforced concrete frame (PCRCF) reinforced with high strength steel only in the columns presented here provides structural systems more resistance to lateral earthquake loadings at comparatively lower cost. The effectiveness is demonstrated by a nonlinear static analysis using fiber model for a single story single bay frame. The study shows that the use of high performance steel in columns pre- vents formation of plastic hinges at the critical column base sections and failures are always initiated by reinforcement yielding at the beam ends. Furthermore, after experiencing severe lateral drift, the passive control design has small residual displacements compared to ordinary reinforced concrete frames. 5Analysis of soil moisture variation by forest cover structure in lower western Himalayas, India显示文摘Soil moisture affects various hydrological processes, including evapotranspiration, infiltration, and runoff. Forested areas in the lower western Himalaya in India constitute the headwater catchments for many hill streams and have experienced degradation in forest cover due to grazing, deforestation and other human activities. This change in forest cover is likely to alter the soil moisture regime and, consequently, flow regimes in streams. The effect of change in forest cover on soil moisture regimes of this dry region has not been studied through long term field observations. We monitored soil matric potentials in two small watersheds in the lower western Himalaya of India. The watersheds consisted of homogeneous land covers of moderately dense oak forest and moderately degraded mixed oak forest. Observations were recorded at three sites at three depths in each watershed at fortnightly intervals for a period of three years. The soil moisture contents derived from soil potential measurements were analyzed to understand the spatial, temporal and profile variations under the two structures of forest cover. The analysis revealed large variations in soil moisture storage at different sites and depths and also during different seasons in each watershed. Mean soil moisture storage during monsoon, winter and summer seasons was higher under dense forest than under degraded forest. Highest soil moisture content occurred at shallow soil profiles, decreasing with depth in both watersheds. A high positive correlation was found between tree density and soil moisture content. Mean soil moisture content over the entire study period was higher under dense forest than under degraded forest. This indicated a potential for soil water storage under well managed oak forest. 6SPOC与直播融合教学方式在留学生病理生理学教学中的应用显示文摘目的探讨小规模限制性在线课程(small private online curriculum, SPOC)与直播融合教学方式在临床医学专业留学生病理生理学教学中的应用效果。方法 2021年3月, 以昆明医科大学2018级六年制临床医学专业57名留学生为研究对象, 采用问卷调查方法和深度访谈法, 了解留学生对SPOC与直播融合式教学方式应用于病理生理学课程的学习体验。结果问卷调查结果显示, 55.8%(24/43)的留学生对病理生理学教学总体感到满意;55.8%(24/43)的留学生对本课程的教学方法感到满意。访谈结果发现, 留学生普遍认可SPOC与直播融合教授的内容和形式, 并认为可从中获益, 但对线上教学的期望与传统课堂相比有一定差距, 有待提升, 并提出改进意见。留学生综合成绩及格率为100.0%(57/57), 优秀率为36.8%(21/57);留学生形成性评价及格率为96.5%(55/57), 优秀率为3.5%(2/57);留学生终结性评价及格率为85.9%(49/57), 优秀率为12.3%(7/57)。结论 SPOC与直播融合教学方式得到学生的普遍认可, 有助于留学生参与学习但线上学习成绩、体验感仍有待提高。王秀燕 Tariq Sirak Qazi 刘湘 宋美儒 李佳昊 毛榕榕 张颖 2022中华医学教育杂志2022,42,5:4

10不同小鼠腹水型肝癌细胞增殖侵袭能力与膜联蛋白A7的亚细胞定位和亚型表达研究显示文摘目的探讨在小鼠淋巴道转移潜能不同的肝癌细胞中,肝癌细胞增殖侵袭能力与膜联蛋白A7的亚细胞定位和亚型的表达。方法以小鼠腹水型肝癌高、低淋巴道转移潜能不同的细胞株Hca-F细胞和Hca-P细胞为研究对象,通过CCK8法检测细胞的增殖能力,Transwell小室检测细胞侵袭能力;Western blotting方法检测膜联蛋白A7在体外增殖侵袭能力不同的肿瘤细胞中的亚细胞定位和亚型的变化。结果发现Hca-F细胞无论是增殖能力还是侵袭能力都高于Hca-P细胞。膜联蛋白A7在Hca-F细胞和Hca-P细胞主要为47 kD亚型表达,而51 kD亚型只少量表达于细胞浆。47 kD亚型在Hca-F细胞的细胞浆、细胞膜、细胞器膜以及细胞骨架中的表达均明显高于Hca-P细胞,分别为(73%±7%)v(s49%±19%)、(36%±8%)v(s24%±9%)和(53%±7%)v(s40%±12%)(均P<0.05)。结论膜联蛋白A7的47 kDa亚型在细胞浆、细胞膜、细胞器膜和细胞骨架的定位表达,可能与肝癌细胞增殖侵袭能力密切相关。黄玉红 Asma saleem qazi Mohmmed mibrahim 张军 范姝君 唐建武 2012中国现代医学杂志2012,22,35:2
11High Refractive Index Ti3O5 Films for Dielectric Metasurfaces显示文摘Ti_3 O_5 films are deposited with the help of an electron beam evaporator for their applications in metasurfaces.The film of subwavelength(632 nm) thickness is deposited on a silicon substrate and annealed at 400°C. The ellipsometr.y result shows a high refractive index above 2.5 with the minimum absorption coefficient in the visible region, which is necessary for high efficiency of transparent metasurfaces. Atomic force microscopy analysis is employed to measure the roughness of the as-deposited films. It is seen from micrographs that the deposited films are very smooth with the minimum roughness to prevent scattering and absorption losses for metasurface devices. The absence of grains and cracks can be seen by scanning electron microscope analysis, which is favorable for electron beam lithography. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy reveals the transmission and reflection obtained from the film deposited on glass substrates. 12Impact of sepsis and non-communicable diseases on prognostic models to predict the outcome of hospitalized chronic liver disease patients显示文摘AIM To evaluate the impact of sepsis and non-communicable diseases(NCDs) on the outcome of decompensated chronic liver disease(CLD) patients.METHODSIn this cross-sectional study, medical records of patients with CLD admitted to the Gastroenterology unit at the Aga Khan University Hospital were reviewed.Patients older than 18 years with decompensation of CLD(i.e., jaundice, ascites,encephalopathy, and/or upper gastrointestinal bleed) as the primary reason for admission were included, while those who were admitted for reasons other than decompensation of CLD were excluded. Each patient was followed for 6 wk after index admission to assess mortality, prolonged hospital stay(> 5 d), and early readmission(within 7 d).RESULTS A total of 399 patients were enrolled. The mean age was 54.3 ± 11.7 years and64.6%(n = 258) were male. Six-week mortality was 13%(n = 52). Prolonged hospital stay and readmission were present in 18%(n = 72) and 7%(n = 28) of patients, respectively. NCDs were found in 47.4%(n = 189) of patients. Acute kidney injury, sepsis, and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction were found in41%(n = 165), 17.5%(n = 70), and 1.75%(n = 7) of patients, respectively. Upon multivariate analysis, acute kidney injury, non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, sepsis, and coagulopathy were found to be statistically significant predictors of mortality. While chronic kidney disease(CKD), low albumin, and high Model for End-Stage Liver Disease(MELD)-Na score were found to be statistically significant predictors of morbidity. Addition of sepsis in conventionalMELD score predicted mortality even better than MELD-Na(area under receiver operating characteristic: 0.735 vs 0.686; P < 0.001). Among NCDs, CKD was found to increase morbidity independently.CONCLUSION Addition of sepsis improved the predictability of MELD score as a prognostic marker for mortality in patients with CLD.
