1Investigations of the half-metallic behavior and the magnetic and thermodynamic properties of half-Heusler CoMnTe and RuMnTe compounds: A first-principles study显示文摘First-principles spin-polarized density functional theory(DFT) investigations of the structural, electronic, magnetic,and thermodynamics characteristics of the half-Heusler, CoMnTe and RuMnTe compounds are carried out. Calculations are accomplished within a state of the art full-potential(FP) linearized(L) augmented plane wave plus a local orbital(APW + lo) computational approach framed within DFT. The generalized gradient approximation(GGA) parameterized by Perdew, Burke, and Ernzerhof(PBE) is implemented as an exchange correlation functional as a part of the total energy calculation. From the analysis of the calculated electronic band structure as well as the density of states for both compounds,a strong hybridization between d states of the higher valent transition metal(TM) atoms(Co, Ru) and lower valent TM atoms of(Mn) is observed. Furthermore, total and partial density of states(PDOS) of the ground state and the results of spin magnetic moments reveal that these compounds are both stable and ideal half-metallic ferromagnetic. The effects of the unit cell volume on the magnetic properties and half-metallicity are crucial. It is worth noting that our computed results of the total spin magnetic moments, for CoMnTe equal to 4 μB and 3 μB per unit cell for RuMnTe, nicely follow the ruleμtot = Zt- 18. 2Silicon nonlinear switch as a conditional circulator for monostatic LiDAR systems显示文摘All-optical silicon-photonics-based LiDAR systems allow for desirable features in scanning resolution and speed,as well as leverage other advantages such as size, weight, and cost. Implementing optical circulators in silicon photonics enables bidirectional use of the light path for both transmitters and receivers, which simplifies the system configuration and thereby promises low system cost. In this work, to the best of our knowledge, we present the first experimental verification of all-passive silicon photonics conditional circulators for monostatic LiDAR systems using a nonlinear switch. The proposed silicon nonlinear interferometer is realized by controlling signal power distribution with power-splitting circuits, allowing the LiDAR transmitter and receiver to share the same optical path. Unlike the traditional concept requiring a permanent magnet, the present device is implemented by using common silicon photonic waveguides and a standard foundry-compatible fabrication process. 3Anti-proliferative and apoptotic efficacy of diallyl disulfide onEhrlich ascites carcinoma显示文摘Aim:This study was conducted to assess the in vivo and in vitro anti-tumor effects of diallyl disulfi de(DADS)against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC)and to suggest its probable mechanism of action.Methods:EAC was induced in female mice by intraperitoneal injection of EAC-cells from stock mice.EAC-bearing mice were orally treated with 100 mg/kg body weight for 2 weeks beginning from the 1st day of EAC intraperitoneal transplantation.Cytotoxicity effects of DADS against EAC-cells in vitro were investigated at different concentrations(0,6.25,12.5,25,50,and 100μg/mL)of DADS using trypan blue exclusion assay.Results:Data from this study exhibited a signifi cant decrease in EAC-aliquot volume as well as total and alive EAC-cell number and a marked increase in dead EAC-cell number and percent in EAC-bearing mice treated with DADS as compared with EAC-bearing control.These changes were consistent with increased number of cells which exhibited phenotypic apoptotic signs marked by a decrease in the expression of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2,an increase of pro-apoptotic and cell cycle arrest mediator p53 and an elevation of DNA fragmenting indicator terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase in EAC-bearing mice treated with DADS.In addition,the tumor marker sialic acid level was markedly decreased in plasma and Ehrlich ascites in EAC-bearing mice treated with DADS.In vitro,DADS also produced anti-proliferative and anti-tumor cytotoxic potentials against EAC.Conclusion:DADS may have anti-cancer effects which may be mediated via modulation of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest.Osama M.Ahmed Rasha R.Ahmed 2015Hepatoma Research2015,1,1:0
