The development of metamaterials continues to redefine the boundaries of materials science. In the field of electromagnetic research and beyond, these materials offer excellent design flexibility with their customized properties and their tunability under external stimuli. In this paper, we first provide a literature review of metamaterials with a focus on the technology and its evolution. | 5 | Metamaterials beyond negative refractive index: Applications in telecommunication and sensing显示文摘Metamaterials have earned their name with extraordinary properties such as negative refractive index and invisibility cloaking. With over 15 years of research and development, metamaterials show their debut in real world applications, especially in the areas of telecommunication, sensing, aerospace & defense, optics and medical instrumentation. In the meanwhile, metamaterials are expanding their concept in areas beyond electromagnetics. In this paper, the authors would like to focus on the research and applications in telecommunication and sensing. Octave-bandwidth horn antennas, flat-panel satellite antennas and air-borne holographic satellite antennas are all fabulous examples of clever implementation that bring metamaterials into practical devices. We would like to discuss the features that differentiate metamaterials from conventional counterparts in case studies. | 8 | Theoretical prediction on the reactivity of the Co-mediated intramolecular Pauson-Khand reaction for constructing bicyclo-skeletons in natural products显示文摘The Co_2(CO)_8-mediated intramolecular Pauson-Khand reaction is an efficient approach for constructing polycyclic skeletons. Recently, some of us reported a series of this type reactions involving stericallyhindered enynes for synthesizing natural products with reasonable reaction rates and yields. However,the reason for the high reactivity of the reaction remains unclear. We employed density functional theory calculations to clarify the mechanism and reactivity for this reaction. In contrast with chain olefin reactants, CO insertion is considered to be the rate-determining step for the overall Pauson-Khand reaction of cyclooctene derivatives. The reduced activation free energy for the alkene insertion step is attributed to: i) the electron-withdrawing group in close proximity to the C—C triple bond enhancing the reactivity of the alkyne moiety; ii) lower steric hindrance during alkene insertion when using the cyclooctene derivative. The effect of the substituent on the Co_2(CO)_8-mediated intramolecular PausonKhand reaction was then investigated. Internal alkenes exhibit lower reactivity than terminal alkenes because of the steric hindrance introduced by the substituted group. The cis internal alkene exhibits higher reactivity than the trans internal alkene. | 9 | Oxidative cyclopalladation triggers the hydroalkylation of alkynes显示文摘This report describes the oxidative cyclopalladation activation of a C≡C bond during the Pd-catalyzed hydroalkylation of alkynes and analyzes potential reaction pathways based on density functional theory calculations. The more favorable pathway in-volves an oxidative cyclopalladation to generate a palladacyclopropene intermediate, which is rarely examined in Pd-catalyzed alkyne transformations. The reaction pathway proposed herein is kinetically favorable relative to the commonly proposed alkyne insertion mode. Furthermore, the Laplacians of the electron density, interaction region indicators, Mayer bond orders, and localized orbital bonding are evaluated to determine the reaction processes and characterize the key intermediates. Theoretical calculations indicate covalent bonding between a Pd(II) center and the two C-atoms in three-membered palladacycle species. | 10 | State laws governing school physical education in relation to attendance and physical activity among students in the USA: A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background:This study systematically synthesized and quantified the relationship linking state laws governing school physical education(PE)to PE attendance and physical activity(PA)in class and throughout the day and week among students in the USA.Methods:A keyword search was performed in PubMed,Web of Science,Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature(CINAHL),Academic Search Complete,and EconLit.Meta-analyses were performed to estimate the effects of state PE laws.Results:A total of 17 studies were included in the review,and five contributed to the meta-analyses.A total of 8 studies used nationally representative school-or student-level data,three focused on multiple states,and the remaining six examined the PE laws of a single state.The presence and strength of state PE laws were positively associated with PE attendance and the frequency and duration of PA during PE classes and throughout the school day.Compared to those residing in states with weak or no PE laws,students in states with strong PE laws had an additional 0.2 days(95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.10.4)of PE attendance per week and spent an additional 33.9 min(95%CI:22.745.0)participating PE classes per week.State PE laws affected girls’PA more than boys’.Different aspects of state PE laws tended to affect students’PE attendance differently.Disparities in the implementation of state PE laws existed across schools.Conclusion:Future studies should adopt objective measures on PE and PA participation and examine the roles schools and districts play in mediating the effect of state PE laws on students’PE attendance and PA. | Ruopeng An Jianxiu Liu Ruidong Liu | 2021 | Journal of Sport and Health Science2021,10,3: | 0 |
