1Improvement on the Effectiveness of Marine Stock Enhancement in the Artificial Reef Area by a New Cage-Based Release Technique显示文摘The release technique,affecting the survival rate of fish species released for stock enhancement,plays a vital role in the effectiveness of the enhancement.In order to improve the probability of released fish settling down to bottom,a new cage-based release technique was designed and tested via a water tank with artificial reef models.Two coral reef fish species,Sebastes schlegelii and Paralichthys olivaceus were assessed using this technique.Fish behavior and distribution in water tank were recorded and compared with the traditional release release techniques.Results showed that in the case of cage-based release technique:1)when the release process is just finished,the distribution index(DI)of juveniles S.schlegelii and P.olivaceus were 97.8%and 98.9%at reef area,40%and 71.1%at release point,respectively,which was higher than those using two alternative techniques;2)its impact duration was less than that in the other two conditions,where the DI within 4 hours was higher after releasing,especially for S.schiegelii.These findings indicated that the new cage-based technique could release the fish into the specified location,and has a potential to mitigate the stress reaction of fish caused by releasing process.ZHANG Junbo HE Yufeng GUO Zhixing JI Shuheng ZHANG Shuo TANG Yanli SHENG Huaxiang WAN Rong KITAZAWA Daisuke 2021Journal of Ocean University of China2021,20,4:1
2Impact of summer moratorium on set-net fi shery in Haizhou Bay,China显示文摘The set-net fi shery resources in Haizhou Bay,China have been over-exploited because of over-fi shing and environmental deterioration.To better understand the current situations and the development trends of fi shery resources,the temporal change of biological characteristics and community compositions were analyzed from 2011 to 2018.Meanwhile,we evaluated the impact of the summer moratorium of marine fi shing(SMMF)on the set-net fi shery.Results show that the mean total length of the six principal species showed varying degrees of decreasing trends,while the changing patterns for the mean weight proportion of the six groups varied.For the whole communities,the similarities of the inter-annual community diversities and compositions were high.SMMF is meaningful to help reproductive success and support recruitment.Every year,the catch per unit eff orts of the six principal species after SMMF were signifi cantly higher than before SMMF except for Octopus ocellatus.The target groups showed a higher mean weight proportion after SMMF than before SMMF in eight years,while the non-target groups were converse.Therefore,the resources of the set-net fi shery are changing in the study periods;and SMMF is an important factor infl uencing biological characteristics and community structure.Despite some challenges,SMMF is still one of the most appropriate policy tools to protect the set-net fi shery resources under the reality of China.Guangjie FANG Haolin YU Xinmeng WANG Huaxiang SHENG Yanli TANG Changdong LIU Chuanxi CHEN Zhenlin LIANG 2022Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,4:0
3Comparison of 16S rRNA Gene Primers on Studying Microbial Community Composition in Bottom Water and Sediment of Artificial Reefs in Laoshan Bay, China显示文摘Marine microorganisms are indispensable regulators of nutrient cycling and energy flow,which are crucial for artificial reefs(ARs)ecosystems.However,little is known about the microbial communities in the bottom water and sediment of ARs.Studies of microbial diversities have greatly advanced due to the development of high-throughput sequencing technologies,whereas the results may vary significantly due to the primers’choice.This study investigated the influences of two 16S ribosomal RNA gene primer choices(V4 and V3-V4)on microbial community compositions and structures.The results showed that the taxonomic assignment de-tected by primer V3-V4 was higher compared with that obtained by primer V4,whereas microbial community compositions had strong correlations between the two primers.Microbial beta diversities of ARs can be uncovered by both primers,but the relation-ships between communities and environmental parameters were inconsistent.The performances of the two primers for water samples were highly consistent,but the inconformity was evident for sediment samples.Given the relatively lower taxonomic classification of primer V4 for sediment samples,primer V3-V4 was recommended for later studies.With the development and advancement of ARs in China,our findings provide a meaningful reference for ecologists focusing on the microbial diversities and ecological functions of these artificial habitats in the future.FANG Guangjie YU Haolin SHENG Huaxiang TANG Yanli LIANG Zhenlin 2022Journal of Ocean University of China2022,21,5:0
4Effects of Trawl Selectivity and Genetic Parameters on Fish Body Length Under Long-Term Trawling显示文摘Long-term fishing pressure affects the biological characteristics of exploited fish stocks. The biological characteristics of hairtail(Trichiurus lepturus) in the East China Sea are unable to recover because of long-term trawling. Fishing induces evolutionary effects on the fish's biological characteristics. Evidence of these changes includes small size at age, a shift to earlier age structure, and early maturation. Natural and artificial selection usually affect the fish's life history. Selection can induce different chances of reproduction, and individual fish can give a different genetic contribution to the next generation. In this study, analysis of time-dependent probability of significance and test of sensitivity were used to explore the effects of fish exploitation rate, mesh size, and heritability with long-term trawling. Results showed that fishing parameters were important drivers to exploited fish population. However, genetic traits altered by fishing were slow, and the changes in biological characteristics were weaker than those caused by fishing selection. Exploitation rate and mesh size exhibited similar evolutionary trend tendency under long-term fishing. The time-dependent probability of significance trend showed a gradual growth and tended to be stable.
