| 5 | The effects of prey depletion on dietary niches of sympatric apex predators in Southeast Asia显示文摘Resource depletion exerts opposing pressures on co-occurring consumers to expand diets while limiting overlap with competitors.Using foraging theory as a framework,we tested the effects of prey availability on diet spe-cialization and overlap among competing Asian predators:dhole,leopard,and tiger.We used scat analysis from a prey-poor site,combined with a quantitative synthesis of 40 other diet studies,to determine biomass of different prey types consumed by each predator.We then assessed diet composition in relation to prey density,and compared diet breadth and overlap between prey-poor and prey-rich sites.In prey rich areas,all three predators specialized on energetically profitable medium and large ungulates(>30 kg),resulting in narrow,overlapping niches.Each predator shifted toward less profitable small-bodied prey(≤30 kg)as preferred ungulates declined,whereas con-sumption of preferred ungulates was unrelated to small prey abundance,as predicted by foraging theory.Diet breadths doubled under prey depletion(except leopard),but overlap declined as diets diverged via species-specific traits that facilitated capture of different types of alternative prey.Asia’s apex predators adapt similarly to depletion of mutually preferred ungulates by switching to more numerous but less profitable small prey.Yet they can also partition a depleted prey base through intrinsic niche differences,thereby avoiding competitive exclusion.Our find-ings illuminate the stabilizing properties of adaptive foraging and niche differences in ecological communities,and provide insights into the behavior and resilience of Asia’s endangered apex predators in response to prey depletion in the heavily poached forests of this region. | Robert STEINMETZ Naret SEUATURIEN Pairoj INTANAJITJUY Pichet INRUEANG Kittipat PREMPREE | 2021 | Integrative Zoology2021，16，1： | 2 |
| 6 | Structural analysis of receptor-like kinase SOBIR1 reveals mechanisms that regulate its phosphorylation-dependent activation显示文摘Plant leucine-rich repeat(LRR)receptor-like kinases(RLKs)and LRR receptor-like proteins(RLPs)comprise a large family of cell surface receptors that play critical roles in signal perception and transduction.Both LRR-RLKs and LRR-RLPs rely on regulatory LRR-RLKs to initiate downstream signaling pathways.BRASSINOSTEROID INSENSITIVE 1-ASSOCIATED KINASE 1/SOMATIC EMBRYOGENESIS RECEPTOR KINASE 3(BAK1/SERK3)and SUPPRESSOR OF BIR1-1(SOBIR1)are important and extensively studied regulatory LRR-RLKs with distinct functions.Although the regulatory mechanism of BAK1 activation has been studied in detail,the activation mechanism of SOBIR1 remains poorly understood.Here,the crystal structures of the catalytically inactive kinase domain of SOBIR1(SOBIR1-KD)from Arabidopsis thaliana were determined in complexes with AMP-PNP and Mg^(2+).The results show that SOBIR1-KD contains a uniquely long β3-αC loop and adopts an Src-like inactive conformation with an unusual architecture at the activation segment,which comprises three helices.Biochemical studies revealed that SOBIR1 is transphosphorylated by BAK1 following its autophosphorylation via an intermolecular mechanism,and the phosphorylation of Thr529 in the activation segment and the β3-αC loop are critical for SOBIR1 phosphorylation.Further functional analysis confirmed the importance of Thr529 and the β3-αC loop for the SOBIR1-induced cell death response in Nicotiana benthamiana.Taken together,these findings provide a structural basis for the regulatory mechanism of SOBIR1 and reveal the important elements and phosphorylation events in the special stepwise activation of SOBIR1-KD,the first such processes found in regulatory LRR-RLKs. | Xue Wei Yulu Wang Su Zhang Tianyi Gu Gabryel Steinmetz Haiyan Yu Guoguang Guo Xin Liu Shilong Fan Fengzhong Wang Yangnan Gu Fengjiao Xin | 2022 | Plant Communications2022，3，2： | 2 |

| 8 | 魔鬼的笔迹(二)——前殖民话语,人种/族类见解和跨文化认同在德国殖民过程中的作用显示文摘This paper seeks to overcome the split between discourse-based and economic/materialist approaches to the explanation of colonialism.The author tracks the formation of'native policy' which was at the core of modern colonial rule,in the German colonies of Samoa,Qingdao/Jiaozhou,and Southwest Africa.Economic forces and international military aims do not explain the variation among the very different native policies that emerge in these colonies.Their true determinants are a combination of three factors: precolonial racial/ethnographic discourse;colonial officials’ competition with one another through claims of superior ethnographic knowledge;and the degree and nature of colonizers’ imaginative identification with images of the colonized(Sinophilia, for example).Economic interests shaped the annexation of some colonies,such as Southwest Africa,and geopolitical interests shaped the German decision to retreat from a colonial stance vis-à-vis China and to engage in a less direct politics of'cultural imperialism' in the years leading up to World War One.The effects of economic interests on the ongoing production of colonial native policy are always mediated by the details of European ethnographic representations. | George Steinmetz | 2005 | 清华大学学报(哲学社会科学版)2005，20，6： | 2 |
