| 1 | Efficacy and safety of active silicone oil removal through a 23-gauge transconjunctival cannula using an external vacuum pump显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of active removal of silicone oil with low and high viscosity through a 23-gauge transconjunctival cannula using an external vacuum pump.METHODS: This study was conducted as a prospective, interventional case series. A total of 22 eyes of 21 patients [1000 centistokes(c St): 17 eyes, 5700 c St:5 eyes] were included in this study. All patients underwent active silicone oil removal via the entire lumen of a 23-gauge microcannula with suction pressure of a650-700 mm Hg vacuum using an external vacuum pump. A tubing adaptor from the Total Plus Pak誖(Alcon,Fort Worth, USA) was used to join the microcannula and silicone vacuum tube connected to an external vacuum pump. Main outcome measures were mean removal time,changes of intraocular pressure(IOP) and visual acuity,and intraoperative and postoperative complications.RESULTS: Mean removal time(min) was 1.49±0.43 for1000 c St and 7. 12 ± 1. 27 for 5700 c St. The IOP was18.57±7.48 mm Hg at baseline, 11.68 ±4.55 mm Hg at day1 postoperatively(P <0.001), and 15.95±4.92, 16.82±3.81,17.41 ±3.50, and 17.09 ±3.01 mm Hg after one week, one month, three months, and six months, respectively. All patients showed improved or stabilized visual acuity.There was no occurrence of intraoperative or postoperative complications during the follow up period.CONCLUSION: This technique for active removal of silicone oil through a 23-gauge cannula using an external vacuum pump is fast, effective, and safe as well as economical for silicone oil with both low and high viscosity in all eyes with pseudophakia, aphakia, or phakia. | Hyun Ju Oh Woohyok Chang Min Sagong | 2015 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2015,8,2: | 6 |
| 2 | Valsalva retinopathy following esophagogastroduodenosco py under propofol sedation:A case report显示文摘We report a case of Valsalva retinopathy associated with esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD)under propofol sedation.A 43-year-old woman who had no previous history of systemic or ocular disease presented with a complaint of decreased vision in her left eye,which developed one day after EGD under propofol sedation.According to the referring physician,the patient had experienced multiple sustained Valsalva maneuvers during EGD.The fundus examination of the left eye showed a large preretinal hemorrhage surrounded by multiple small retinal hemorrhages in the posterior pole.One month later,fundus examination revealed a floating organized vitreous hemorrhage.The pars plana vitrectomy was performed to treat persistent vitreous hemorrhage.One month after vitrectomy,fundus examination showed normal retina and the patient’s vision recovered to 20/20.Valsalva maneuver can occur during EGD under sedation,and Valsalva retinopathy should be considered as a possible cause.Valsalva retinopathy should be included in the differential diagnosis when a patient complains of blurred vision following EGD. | Ju-Hong Park Min Sagong Woohyok Chang | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,11: | 6 |
| 3 | Assessment of Soil Erosion and Sediment Yield in Liao Watershed, Jiangxi Province, China, Using USLE, GIS, and RS显示文摘Soil erosion by water is a serious problem all over the world. In China, about 1790000 km2 of land suffers from water erosion, which accounts for 18.3% of China’s total area. This study was conducted in the Liao (潦) watershed in Jiangxi (江西) Province to assess annual soil erosion and sediment yield using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE). A geographic information system (GIS) was used to generate maps of the USLE factors, which include rainfall erosivity (R), soil erodibility (K),slope length and steepness (LS), cover (C), and conservation practice (P) factors. By integrating these factors in a GIS, a spatial distribution of soil erosion over the Liao watershed was obtained. The soil erosion was found to vary from nil for flat and well-covered areas to more than 500 t/ha/a in mountainous places with sparse vegetation. The average soil erosion is 18.2 t/ha/a with a standard deviation of 109.3 t/ha/a. The spatial distribution of erosion classes was estimated. About 39.5% of the watershed is under the tolerant erosion rate, and 60.5% of the study area experienced erosion to different extents. A spatially distributed sediment delivery ratio (SDR) module was developed to account for soil erosion and deposition. It was found that the SDR value at the outlet of the Liao watershed was 0.206, and the sediment yield was 1.32 million t/a, which was 20% higher than the measured sediment. | 5 | Development of seeder for mixed planting of corn and soybeans显示文摘Corn and soybeans should be sown between 5 cm and 10 cm apart in mixed cultivation to increase protein content and improve productivity of the forage.However,existing sowers cannot plant at intervals of less than 20 cm.Consequently,mixed cultivation of corn and soybeans is currently performed by first sowing corn seeds with a tractor and then manually planting soybean seeds.This method results in irregular intervals between the seeds,it is laborious and time consuming.This study aimed at developing a seeder that can simultaneously,precisely and efficiently plant corn and soybean.The geometrical and rheological properties of corn and soybeans were initially measured.The seed conveying equipment were designed using the EDEM software.The sowing interval between seeds,depth of soil over planted seed,and sowing performance were analyzed.The EDEM simulation results indicated that a 6-mm-wide and 3-mm-deep grooved seed-delivering roller had the highest particle mobility of the designs considered,with a 2.5%misplanting rate.A performance test showed that no misplanting occurred in the sections sowed with soybean seeds at a seeding interval that averaged 32 mm(321 seeds sown in 10 m)and that misplanting occurred in one section sowed with corn at a seeding interval that averaged 247 mm(40 seeds sown over 10 m).The sowing efficiency for both corn and soybeans was found to be 0.42 h/hm2.The average depth of soil over seed was 32.7 mm for soybean and 39.7 mm for corn.These average depths are within the stipulated range for the depth of soil over seed,which is 5 to 10 times the seed size.This study developed an efficient seeding machine that can simultaneously plant soybean and corn precisely,consequently improving forage yield and saving man-hours. | Seung Min Woo Daniel Dooyum Uyeh Moon Sang Sagong Yu Shin Ha | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,3: | 3 |
| 6 | Fractal analysis of retinal vasculature in normal subjects on ultra-wide field fluorescein angiography显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the fractal feature of the retinal vasculature of normal eyes on a stereographic projected and montaged ultra-wide field(UWF) fluorescein angiography(FA).METHODS: Prospective, observational, cross-sectional study. Totally 59 eyes of 31 normal subjects were imaged using the Optos 200 Tx. Images obtained at different gaze angles stereographically projected and montaged. The early-phase UWF FA frames were processed to segment the retinal vasculature and the results were exported as binary masks. The fractal dimension(FD) was calculated using the box-counting method.RESULTS: The global FD for the entire retina was 1.6±0.04, with no difference between males and females(1.59±0.04 vs 1.61±0.04, P=0.084) or between right and left eyes(1.6±0.04 vs 1.6±0.05, P=0.61). FD was nonuniformly distributed among four quadrants(P<0.001) and decreased as the distance from the fovea increased(P<0.001). A negative association was observed between FD and age(R=-0.37, P=0.006), and this relationship was observed in the posterior and mid-peripheral retina(P<0.05) but absent in far-periphery(P>0.05).CONCLUSION: Fractal geometry is non-uniformly distributed across the retina in normal eyes and decreases from the fovea to the far-periphery.
