| 1 | Effect of Temperature and Gamma-Ray Irradiation on Optical Characteristics of Fiber Bragg Grating Inscribed Radiation-Resistant Optical Fiber显示文摘A new radiation-hard germano-silicate glass optical fiber with a pure silica glass buffer and a boron-doped silica glass inner cladding was fabricated for temperature sensor application based on the fiber Bragg grating(FBG)underg-ray irradiation environment.The temperature dependences of optical attenuation at 1550.5 nm and Bragg reflection wavelength shift from 18℃to 40℃before theγ-ray irradiation were about 4.57´10^(-4)dB/℃and 5.48 pm/℃,respectively.The radiation-induced optical attenuation at 1550.5 nm and the radiation-induced Bragg reflection wavelength shift under theγ-ray irradiation with the total dose of 22.85 kGy at 35℃were about 0.03 dB/m and 0.12 nm,respectively,with theγ-ray irradiation sensitivity of 5.25´10^(-3)pm/Gy.The temperature and theγ-ray irradiation dependence of optical attenuation at 1550.5 nm in the FBG written fiber with boron-doped silica glass inner cladding were about 6 times and 4 times lower than that in the FBG written fiber without boron-doped silica glass inner cladding under a temperature change from 18℃to 40℃and theγ-ray irradiation with the total dose of 22.85 kGy at 35℃,respectively.Furthermore,the effect of temperature increase on the Bragg reflection wavelength of the FBG written fiber with boron-doped silica inner cladding was much larger about 1000 times than that of theγ-ray irradiation.However,no influence on the reflection power of the Bragg wavelengths and the full width at half maximum(FWHM)bandwidth under temperature and theγ-ray irradiation change was found.Also,after theγ-ray irradiation with the dose of 22.85 kGy,no significant change in the refractive index was found but the residual stresses developed in the fiber were slightly relaxed or retained. | Seongmin JU Youngwoong KIM Kadathala LINGANNA Yune Hyoun KIM Won-Taek HAN | 2020 | Photonic Sensors2020,10,1: | 2 |

| 14 | Highly Efficient,Dual‑Functional Self‑Assembled Electrospun Nanofiber Filters for Simultaneous PM Removal and On‑Site Eye‑Readable Formaldehyde Sensing显示文摘Air pollution containing particulate matter(PM)and volatile organic compounds has caused magnificent burdens on indi-vidual health and global economy.Although advances in highly efficient or multifunctional nanofiber filters have been achieved,many existing filters can only deal with one type of air pollutant,such as capturing PM or absorbing and detecting toxic gas.Here,highly efficient,dual-functional,self-assembled electrospun nanofiber(SAEN)filters were developed for simultaneous PM removal and onsite eye-readable formaldehyde sensing fabricated on a commercial fabric mask.With the use of an electrolyte solution containing a formaldehyde-sensitive colorimetric agent as a collector during electrospinning,the one-step fabrication of the dual-functional SAEN filter on commercial masks,such as a fabric mask and a daily dispos-able mask,was achieved.The electrolyte solution also allowed the uniform deposition of electrospun nanofibers,thereby achieving the high efficiency of PM filtration with an increased quality factor up to twice that of commercial masks.The SAEN filter enabled onsite and eye-readable formaldehyde gas detection by changing its color from yellow to red under a 5 ppm concentrated formaldehyde gas atmosphere.The repetitive fabrication and detachment of the SAEN filter on a fabric mask minimized the waste of the mask while maintaining high filtration efficiency by replenishing the SAEN filters and reusing the fabric mask.Given the dual functionality of SAEN filters,this process could provide new insights into design-ing and developing high performance and dual-functional electrospun nanofiber filters for various applications,including individual protection and indoor purification applications. | Jin Yeong Song Seongmin Kim Jaeseong Park Sang Min Park | 2023 | Advanced Fiber Materials2023,5,3: | 0 |
| 15 | Defocused imaging-based quantification of plasmon-induced distortion of single emitter emission显示文摘Optical properties of single emitters can be significantly improved through the interaction with plasmonic structures,leading to enhanced sensing and imaging capabilities.In turn,single emitters can act as sensitive probes of the local electromagnetic field surrounding plasmonic structures,furnishing fundamental insights into their physics and guiding the design of novel plasmonic devices.However,the interaction of emitters in the proximity to a plasmonic nanostructure causes distortion,which hinders precise estimation of position and polarization state and is one of the reasons why detection and quantification of molecular processes yet remain fundamentally challenging in this era of super-resolution.Here,we investigate axially defocused images of a single fluorescent emitter near metallic nanostructure,which encode emitter positions and can be acquired in the far-field with high sensitivity,while analyzing the images with pattern matching algorithm to explore emitter-localized surface plasmon interaction and retrieve information regarding emitter positions.Significant distortion in defocused images of fluorescent beads and quantum dots near nanostructure was observed and analyzed by pattern matching and finite-difference time-domain methods,which revealed that the distortion arises from the emitter interaction with nanostructure.Pattern matching algorithm was also adopted to estimate the lateral positions of a dipole that models an emitter utilizing the distorted defocused images and achieved improvement by more than 3 times over conventional diffraction-limited localization methods.The improvement by defocused imaging is expected to provide a way of enhancing reliability when using plasmonic nanostructure and diversifying strategies for various imaging and sensing modalities. | Gwiyeong Moon Taehwang Son Hajun Yoo Changhun Lee Hyunwoong Lee Seongmin Im Donghyun Kim | 2023 | Light(Science & Applications)2023,12,10: | 0 |
| 16 | Resolution-enhanced X-ray fluorescence microscopy via deep residual networks显示文摘Multimodal hard X-ray scanning probe microscopy has been extensively used to study functional materials providing multiple contrast mechanisms.For instance,combining ptychography with X-ray fluorescence(XRF)microscopy reveals structural and chemical properties simultaneously.While ptychography can achieve diffraction-limited spatial resolution,the resolution of XRF is limited by the X-ray probe size.Here,we develop a machine learning(ML)model to overcome this problem by decoupling the impact of the X-ray probe from the XRF signal.The enhanced spatial resolution was observed for both simulated and experimental XRF data,showing superior performance over the state-of-the-art scanning XRF method with different nano-sized X-ray probes.Enhanced spatial resolutions were also observed for the accompanying XRF tomography reconstructions.Using this probe profile deconvolution with the proposed ML solution to enhance the spatial resolution of XRF microscopy will be broadly applicable across both functional materials and biological imaging with XRF and other related application areas. | Longlong Wu Seongmin Bak Youngho Shin Yong S.Chu Shinjae Yoo Ian K.Robinson Xiaojing Huang | 2023 | npj Computational Materials2023,,1: | 0 |
