| 10 | Iatrogenic bladder neck rupture due to traumatic urethral catheterization: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND In this article,we present a case of iatrogenic bladder neck rupture due to catheter insertion in a 94-year-old comorbid male patient.CASE SUMMARY The patient, who had a urethral catheter inserted in the palliative service 3 d ago,was consulted because the catheter did not work.Because the fluid given to the bladder could not be recovered, computed tomography was performed, which revealed that the catheter had passed the bladder neck first into the retrovesical area then into the intraabdominal area. The appearance of the anterior urethra and verumontanum was normal at cystoscopy. However, extremely severe stenosis of the bladder neck, and perforated posterior wall of the urethral segment between the prostatic urethra and the bladder neck were observed.Internal urethrotomy was applied to the bladder neck with a urethrotome. An urethral catheter was sent over the guide wire into the bladder. The patient was followed in the palliative care service and the catheter was removed 7 d later. No extravasation was observed in the control urethrography.CONCLUSION Although catheter insertion is a simple and frequently performed procedure in hospitalized patients,it is necessary to avoid unnecessary extra-indication catheter insertion. | Ozgur Ekici Ercüment Keskin Fatih Kocoglu Ali Seydi Bozkurt | 2023 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,30: | 0 |
| 11 | Bladder stone due to late clip migration after prostatic urethral lift procedure: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Prostatic urethral lift(PUL)therapy is an alternative to minimally invasive and other surgeries in younger patients who want to preserve their sexual and ejaculatory functions, and in elderly male patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who cannot be anesthetized because of the risk of anesthesia. The procedure can be performed as an outpatient and without anesthesia, and complications are few and temporary. In long-term follow-up,encrustations that require retreatment are rarely seen.CASE SUMMARY In our case,a 62-year-old prostate patient who had a PUL operation 8 years ago and had a stone on the PUL material near the bladder neck was treated. The patient’s stone was removed by endoscopic cystolithotripsy using pneumatic fragmentation.Bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate was applied to the patient in the same session. After the patient’s 7-year follow-up,the patient’s complaints relapsed, and cystoscopy was performed again. In cystoscopy, stone formation adjacent to the wall was observed at the junction of the bladder neck to the left lateral wall. The stone was fragmented with a pneumatic lithotripter.CONCLUSION Placing clips too close to bladder neck in the PUL procedure may result in clip migration. | Ali Seydi Bozkurt Ozgur Ekici Ercüment Keskin Fatih Kocoglu | 2023 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,30: | 0 |
| 12 | Selective toxicity of Caspian cobra (Naja oxiana)venom on liver cancer cell mitochondria显示文摘Objective:To explore the cytotoxicity effects of Caspian cobra(Naja oxiana or N.oxiana) venom on hepatocytes and mitochondria obtained from the liver of HCC rats. Methods:In this study,HCC was induced by diethylnitrosamine(DEN),as an initiator, and 2-acetylaminofluorene(2-AAF),as a promoter.Rat liver hepatocytes and mitochondria for evaluation of the selective cytotoxic effect of N.oxiana venom were isolated and mitochondria and cellular parameters related to apoptosis signaling were then determined. Results:Our results showed a raise in mitochondrial reactive oxygen species(ROS)level, swelling in mitochondria, mitochondrial membrane potential(Djm) collapse and release of cytochrome c after exposure of mitochondria only isolated from the HCC group with the crude venom of the N.oxiana(12.5,25,and 50 mg/m L).This crude venom also induced caspase-3 activation(P < 0.001) in the hepatocytes obtained only from the HCC rat liver. Conclusions:Based on the over all results,we suggested that N.oxiana may be considered as a promising complementary therapeutic agent for the treatment of HCC. | Enayatollah Seydi Shabnam Babaei Amir Fakhri Jalal Pourahmad | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2017,7,5: | 0 |
| 13 | Ocular findings in children with thalassemia major in Eastern Mediterranean显示文摘AIM: To investigate ophthalmologic findings in children with thalassemia major(TM) and compare the findings with healthy controls. ·METHODS: In a cross-sectional study,43 children with thalassemia major from pediatric hematology outpatient clinics from two university hospitals and age/sex matched 47 healthy children were included in the study. After a complete ophthalmic examination, tear function tests including the Schirmer test, fluorescein tear breakup time(BUT),ultrasound pachymetry, and axial length measurement were performed. Obtained data was recorded for statistical analysis and the values of right eyes were compared between groups. ·RESULTS: The mean best corrected visual acuity was 1.34 ±0.75 in TM and 1.08 ±0.28 in controls. It was found lower than 0.1 logMAR unit in 10(23.2%) children with TM and 2(4.2%) in controls, and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05). The mean central corneal thickness was 540±26.95 in children with TM and 536.98± 20.45μm in controls(P >0.05). The mean axial length was 22.53±0.50 in TM and 22.57±0.43mm in the control group. The mean Schirmer test score was 19.94±6.91 in TM and 24.22±3.95mm in the control group(P <0.01). The mean BUT score was 9.62 ±1.28 in TM and 9.73 ±0.6s in the control group(P >0.05). ·CONCLUSION: In TM,while corneal thickness, axial length, and BUT are close to controls, the Schirmer scores are less than normal. The study revealed that TM may be affected by the tear function and visual acuity. | Adnan Aksoy Murat Aslankurt Lokman Aslan zlem Gül Mesut Garipard| Oguz elik Seydi Okumus Murat zdemir Gkhan zdemir | 2014 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014,7,1: | 0 |
