| 1 | Two-photon-excited near-infrared emissive carbon dotsas multifunctional agents for fluorescence imaging andphotothermal therapy显示文摘C dots (CDs) have shown great potential in bioimaging and phototherapy.However, it is challenging to manipulate their fluorescent properties andtherapeutic efficacy to satisfy the requirements for clinic applications. In thisstudy, we prepared S, Se-codoped CDs via a hydrothermal method anddemonstrated that the doping resulted in excitation wavelength-independentnear-infrared (NIR) emissions of the CDs, with peaks at 731 and 820 nm.Significantly, the CDs exhibited a photothermal conversion efficiency of -58.2%,which is the highest reported value for C nanostructures and is comparable tothat of Au nanostructures. Moreover, the CDs had a large two-photon absorptioncross section (-30,045 GM), which allowed NIR emissions and the photothermalconversion of the CDs through the two-photon excitation (TPE) mechanism. | 2 | On the number of rotation symmetric Boolean functions显示文摘Rotation symmetric Boolean functions (RSBFs) have been used as components of different cryptosystems. This class of functions are invariant under circular translation of indices. In this paper, we investigated balanced RSBFs and 1st order correlation immune RSBFs. Based on constructive techniques, we give an accurate enumeration formula for n-variable balanced RSBFs when n is a power of a prime. Furthermore, an original and efficient method to enumerate all n-variable (n prime) 1st order correlationimmune functions is presented. The exact number of 1st order correlation immune RSBFs with 11 variables is 6925047156550478825225250374129764511077684773805520800 and the number of 13 variables has 189 digits. | 7 | Impacts of CO_2-driven seawater acidification on survival,egg production rate and hatching success of four marine copepods显示文摘Ecological experiments were conducted to examine the effects of seawater containing elevated par- tial pressure of carbon dioxide (p CO2 800 × 10 -6 , 2 000 × 10 -6 , 5 000 × 10 -6 and 10 000 × 10 -6 ) on the survival and reproduction of female Acartia pacifica, Acartia spinicauda, Calanus sinicus and Centropages tenuiremis, which are the dominant copepods in the southern coastal waters of China. The results show that the effects of elevated p CO2 on the survival rates of copepods were species-specific. C. sinicus, which was a macro-copepod, had a higher survival rate (62.01%-71.96%) than the other three species (5.00%-26.67%) during the eight day exposure. The egg production rates of C. sinicus, A. spinicauda and C. tenuiremis were significantly inhibited by the increased p CO2 and the exposure time duration. There were significantly negative impacts on the egg hatching success of A. spinicauda and C. tenuiremis in the p CO2 2 000 × 10 -6 and 10 000 × 10 -6 groups, and, in addition, the exposure time had noticeably impacts on these rates too. This study indicates that the reproductive performances of copepods were sensitive to elevated p CO2 , and that the response of different copepod species to acidified seawater was different. | 8 | Chemical induction of settlement and metamorphosis in two Babylonia (Gastropoda) larvae显示文摘By exposure to 12 x 10 3 mol/dm3 K+ for 24 h, more than 90% of planktonic larvae of Babylonia formosae and B. areolata were effectively induced to metamorphose completely. 15 x 10 - 3 mol/dm3 K+ exerted toxic effect on larval B. areolata over a 24-h period, but produced better results of induction by 12 h exposure. Metamorphosed juveniles induced by increased by K’ could move and feed normally. Percent metamorphosis increased with average shell height for K + -induced larvae. L-DOPA, epinephrine and norepinephrine ranging from 5. 5 x 10 -- 6 to 5. 5 x 10 - 5 mol/dm3 had no inductive activity to metamorphosis in larval B. areolata, whereas the rate of metamorphosis induced by dopamine at a concentration of 10--4 mol/dm3 was approximately half less than that by 12 x 10 3 mol/dm3 K+. TEA (a K+ -channel blocker) did not inhibit metamorphosis in the two Babylonia larvae by induction of K+. Based on the results of K+ -induced experiments, it is preliminarily suggested that shell height of larvae achieving metamorphic competence was in the range of 860. 2 - 1 009. 8μm for B. formosae, and 849. 6- 956. 0 um for B. areolata. | 9 | Settlement and metamorphosis of Styela canopus Savigny larvae in response to some neurotransmitters and thyroxin显示文摘The larvae of ascidian Styela canopus Savigny were treated with epinephrine, norepinephrine, L-DOPA, GABA and thyroxin to test the ability of these compounds to induce or inhibit larval settlement and metamorphosis. The results showed that epinephrine, norepinephrine and L-DOPA at the concentration of 1μmol/dm 3 induced larval settlement and metamorphosis in S. canopus, with short exposure (1 h) to 1 μmol/dm 3 of L-DOPA inducing rapid settlement. In contrast, GABA at the concentrations of 0.1 ~100.0 μmol/dm 3 significantly inhibited the settlement and metamorphosis of S. canopus larvae. In addition, thyroxin at 1~50 μg/dm 3 had no effect on larval settlement and metamorphosis in S. canopus. Using immunocytochemical staining techniques, this study has localized vertebrate FSH-like and LH-like substances in neurons in the subesophageal and thoracic ganglia from the thoracic ganglion mass (TGM) of Scylla paramamosain (Crustacea: Decapoda: Brachyura). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) has shown that the concentrations of both FSH-and LH-like sub-stances increased markedly in the TGM during the vitellogenic stage compared with that in the previtellogenic stage. | 13 | A preliminary study of the variation of phytoplankton absorption coefficients in the northern South China Sea显示文摘The temporal and spatial variabilities of phytoplankton absorption coefficients (a ph (λ)) and their relationships with physical processes in the northern South China Sea were examined, based on in situ data collected from two cruise surveys during May 14 to 25, 2001 and November 2 to 21, 2002. Significant changes in the surface water in a ph values and B/R ratios (a ph (440)/a ph (675)) were observed in May, which were caused by a phytoplankton bloom on the inner shelf stimulated by a large river plume due to heavy precipitation. This is consistent with the observed one order of magnitude elevation of chlorophyll a and a shift from a pico/nano dominated phytoplankton community to one dominated by micro-algae. Enhanced vertical mixing due to strengthened northeast monsoon in November has been observed to result in higher surface a ph (675) (0.002–0.006 m-1 higher) and less pronounced subsurface maximum on the outer shelf/slope in November as compared with that in May. Measurements of a ph and B/R ratios from three transects in November revealed a highest surface a ph (675) immediately outside the mouth of the Zhujiang (Pearl) River Estuary, whereas lower a ph (675) and higher B/R ratios were featured in the outer shelf/slope waters, demonstrating the respective influence of the Zhujiang River plume and the oligotrophic water of the South China Sea. The difference in spectral shapes of phytoplankton absorption (measured by B/R ratios and bathochromic shifts) on these three transects infers that picoprocaryotes are the major component of the phytoplankton community on the outer shelf/slope rather than on the inner shelf. A regional tuning of the phytoplankton absorption spectral model (Carder et al., 1999) was attempted, demonstrating a greater spatial variation than temporal variation in the lead parameter a 0 (λ). | 16 | Effects of biogenic amines on the testicular development in mud crabs Scylla serrata显示文摘The regulation of three biogenic amines over the reproductive neuroendocrine activity of the male Scylla serrata was investigated by in vivo injection and in vitro incubation. The testicular index, the ratio of the mature sections in testes, and the ratio of Type B cells in androgenic gland were taken as the quantitative indexes. The in vivo injections indicated that: 5-HT can significantly promote the testicular development and the secretion of the androgenic gland in S. serrata; DA can inhibit the testicular development, but no influence on the secretion of the androgenic gland was found; no significant difference was observed between the OA-injected group and the concurrent control group. In vitro incubations showed that: 5-HT can stimulate the secretion of the brain and the thoracic ganglia, thus accelerating that of the androgenic gland; however, neither OA nor DA showed any significant influence on the secretion of the brain and the thoracic ganglionic mass. As to the optic ganglia, the three biogenic amines hardly have any effect on its secretion. It is the first time to report the regulation of biogenic amines over the reproductive neuroendocrine of male crustaceans through vitro experiments. | 20 | Genetic diversity and differentiation of three populations of Penaeus monodon Fabricus显示文摘Genetic diversity of two wild Penaeus monodon populations sampled from the coastal waters of Qinglan (Hainan Province of China,HN) and Malaysia (KD),and the F1 generation of a Thailand broodstock population (CP) were examined by vertical polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Of 21 loci encoded by ten enzymes,11 were polymorphic. The mean proportions of polymorphic loci of HN,KD and CP were 36.36%,45.45% and 50.00%,with the average heterozygosities of 0.135,0.181 and 0.191,and the effective numbers of alleles per loci were 1.300,1.330 and 1.329,respectively. The divergent indexes of HN,KD and CP were 0.023,0.124,and 0.117,respectively. The genetic distance between the two wild populations was 0.005,and the gene differentiation coefficient was also very low (0.014). The results indicated that the F1 generation population had a higher genetic diversity than the two wild populations,and that the HN population had the lowest one.
