1Regulating the fate of stem cells for regenerating the intervertebral disc degeneration显示文摘Lower back pain is a leading cause of disability and is one of the reasons for the substantial socioeconomic burden. The etiology of intervertebral disc(IVD)degeneration is complicated, and its mechanism is still not completely understood.Factors such as aging, systemic inflammation, biochemical mediators, toxic environmental factors, physical injuries, and genetic factors are involved in the progression of its pathophysiology.Currently,no therapy for restoring degenerated IVD is available except pain management, reduced physical activities, and surgical intervention. Therefore,it is imperative to establish regenerative medicine-based approaches to heal and repair the injured disc, repopulate the cell types to retain water content, synthesize extracellular matrix, and strengthen the disc to restore normal spine flexion.Cellular therapy has gained attention for IVD management as an alternative therapeutic option. In this review,we present an overview of the anatomical and molecular structure and the surrounding pathophysiology of the IVD.Modern therapeutic approaches, including proteins and growth factors, cellular and gene therapy, and cell fate regulators are reviewed.Similarly, small molecules that modulate the fate of stem cells for their differentiation into chondrocytes and notochordal cell types are highlighted.Sobia Ekram Shumaila Khalid Asmat Salim Irfan Khan 2021World Journal of Stem Cells2021,13,12:2

7Lanostane Tetracyclic Triterpenoids as Important Sources for Anti-Inflammatory Drug Discovery显示文摘Inflammation is a defensive reaction of the human body to numerous detrimental stimuli, including physical trauma, noxious chemicals,as well as microbial agents.Uncontrolled inflammation is the pathological basis of multiple diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis(RA),neurodegenerative diseases, liver disease, and lung inflammation.Lanostane triterpenoids are natural tetracyclic triterpenoids with significant anti-inflammatory activity. An extensive review of the published literature regarding the phytochemistry and anti-inflammatory pharmacology of lanostane triterpenoids has been performed and analyzed using several search engines, such as SciFinder,Web of Science,Scopus,PubMed,Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. This review is devoted to naturally occurring lanostane-type triterpenes with anti-inflammatory activity, including their sources, biosynthesis, and mechanism of action. This review also discusses the inflammation-related diseases and the clinical significance of traditional Chinese medicine as multi-target therapeutic agents for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases. In the past 30 years, more than 100 new lanostane-type triterpenes have been reported from the families Schisandraceae,Ganodermataceae, and Polyporaceae.Six compounds, fomitopinic acid A,fomitosides E and F,obtusifoliol,4α,l4α-dimethyl-5α-ergosta-7,9(11),24(28)-trien-3β-ol,and gramisterol exhibited the most potent anti-inflammatory activity against cyclooxygenase-1(COX-1)and COX-2,with IC50 values ranging from 0.087 to 1.15μM.Some of these compounds exhibited significant activity by mediating the inhibition of the pro-inflammatory cytokines, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and COX-2 expression. This review provides a basis for identifying anti-inflammatory drugs with high selectivity, high potency, and few adverse effects from lanostane-type triterpenes.Yu-Pei Yang Shumaila Tasneem Muhammad Daniyal Liu Zhang Yan-Zhe Jia Yu-Qing Jian Bin Li Wei Wang 2020World Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2020,6,3:1

12A Novel Fractional Dengue Transmission Model in the Presence of Wolbachia Using Stochastic Based Artificial Neural Network显示文摘The purpose of this research work is to investigate the numerical solutions of the fractional dengue transmission model(FDTM)in the presence of Wolbachia using the stochastic-based Levenberg-Marquardt neural network(LM-NN)technique.The fractional dengue transmission model(FDTM)consists of 12 compartments. The human population is divided into four compartments;susceptible humans(S_(h)),exposed humans(E_(h)),infectious humans(I_(h)),and recovered humans(R_(h)).Wolbachia-infected and Wolbachia-uninfected mosquito population is also divided into four compartments:aquatic(eggs, larvae, pupae),susceptible, exposed, and infectious. We investigated three different cases of vertical transmission probability(η),namely when Wolbachia-free mosquitoes persist only(η=0.6),when both types of mosquitoes persist(η=0.8),and when Wolbachia-carrying mosquitoes persist only(η=1).The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Wolbachia in reducing dengue and presenting the numerical results by using the stochastic structure LM-NN approach with 10 hidden layers of neurons for three different cases of the fractional order derivatives(α=0.4,0.6,0.8).LM-NN approach includes a training, validation, and testing procedure to minimize the mean square error(MSE)values using the reference dataset(obtained by solving the model using the Adams-Bashforth-Moulton method(ABM).The distribution of data is 80% data for training,10% for validation,and,10% for testing purpose)results.A comprehensive investigation is accessible to observe the competence, precision, capacity, and efficiency of the suggested LM-NN approach by executing the MSE,state transitions findings, and regression analysis. The effectiveness of the LM-NN approach for solving the FDTM is demonstrated by the overlap of the findings with trustworthy measures, which achieves a precision of up to 10^(-4).Zeshan Faiz Iftikhar Ahmed Dumitru Baleanu Shumaila Javeed 2024Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2024,139,5:0
13Security Monitoring and Management for the Network Services in the Orchestration of SDN-NFV Environment Using Machine Learning Techniques显示文摘Software Defined Network(SDN)and Network Function Virtualization(NFV)technology promote several benefits to network operators, including reduced maintenance costs, increased network operational performance, simplified network lifecycle, and policies management.Network vulnerabilities try to modify services provided by Network Function Virtualization MANagement and Orchestration(NFV MANO),and malicious attacks in different scenarios disrupt the NFV Orchestrator(NFVO)and Virtualized Infrastructure Manager(VIM)lifecycle management related to network services or individual Virtualized Network Function(VNF).This paper proposes an anomaly detection mechanism that monitors threats in NFV MANO and manages promptly and adaptively to implement and handle security functions in order to enhance the quality of experience for end users. An anomaly detector investigates these identified risks and provides secure network services. It enables virtual network security functions and identifies anomalies in Kubernetes(a cloud-based platform). For training and testing purpose of the proposed approach,an intrusion-containing dataset is used that hold multiple malicious activities like a Smurf,Neptune,Teardrop,Pod,Land,IPsweep, etc.,categorized as Probing(Prob),Denial of Service(DoS),User to Root(U2R),and Remote to User(R2L)attacks.An anomaly detector is anticipated with the capabilities of a Machine Learning(ML)technique, making use of supervised learning techniques like Logistic Regression(LR),Support Vector Machine(SVM),Random Forest(RF),Naïve Bayes(NB),and Extreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost). The proposed framework has been evaluated by deploying the identified ML algorithm on a Jupyter notebook in Kubeflow to simulate Kubernetes for validation purposes.RF classifier has shown better outcomes(99.90%accuracy)than other classifiers in detecting anomalies/intrusions in the containerized environment.Nasser Alshammari Shumaila Shahzadi Saad Awadh Alanazi Shahid Naseem Muhammad Anwar Madallah Alruwaili Muhammad Rizwan Abid Omar Alruwaili Ahmed Alsayat Fahad Ahmad 2024Computer Systems Science & Engineering2024,48,2:0
14Clinicopathological features and medium-term outcomes of histologic variants of primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in adults:A retrospective study显示文摘BACKGROUND The Columbia classification identified five histological variants of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis(FSGS).The prognostic significance of these variants remains controversial.AIM To evaluate the relative frequency, clinicopathologic characteristics, and medium-term outcomes of FSGS variants at a single center in Pakistan.METHODS This retrospective study was conducted at the Department of Nephrology,Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation,Karachi,Pakistan on all consecutive adults(≥16 years)with biopsy-proven primary FSGS from January 1995 to December 2017.Studied subjects were treated with steroids as a first-line therapy. The response rates, doubling of serum creatinine, and kidney failure(KF)with replacement therapy were compared between histological variants using ANOVA or Kruskal Wallis, and Chi-square tests as appropriate.Data were analyzed by SPSS version 22.0.P-value≤0.05 was considered significant.RESULTS A total of 401 patients were diagnosed with primary FSGS during the study period.Among these,352(87.7%)had a designated histological variant. The not otherwise specified(NOS)variant was the commonest, being found in 185(53.9%)patients,followed by the tip variant in 100(29.1%)patients.Collapsing(COL),cellular(CEL),and perihilar(PHI)variants were seen in 58(16.9%),6(1.5%),and 3(0.7%)patients,respectively.CEL and PHI variants were excluded from further analysis due to small patient numbers. The mean follow-up period was 36.5±29.2 months.Regarding response rates of variants, patients with TIP lesions achieved remission more frequently(59.5%)than patients with NOS(41.8%)and COL(24.52%)variants(P<0.001).The hazard ratio of complete response among patients with the COL variant was 0.163[95%confidence interval(CI):0.039-0.67]as compared to patients with NOS.The TIP variant showed a hazard ratio of 2.5(95%CI:1.61-3.89)for complete remission compared to the NOS variant.Overall, progressive KF was observed more frequently in patients with the COL variant,43.4%(P<0.001).Among these,24.53%of patients required kidney replacement therapy(P<0.001).The hazard ratio of doubling of serum creatinine among patients with the COL variant was 14.57(95%CI:1.87-113.49)as compared to patients with the TIP variant.CONCLUSION In conclusion, histological variants of FSGS are predictive of response to treatment with immunosuppressants and progressive KF in adults in our setup.Nazarul Hassan Jafry Shumaila Manan Rahma Rashid Muhammed Mubarak 2024World Journal of Nephrology2024,13,1:0
15A numerical framework for the approximate solution of fractional tumor-obesity model显示文摘In this paper,we have proposed the efficient numerical methods to solve a tumor-obesity model which involves two types of the fractional operators namely Caputo and CaputoFabrizio(CF).Stability and convergence of the proposed schemes using Caputo and CF fractional operators are analyzed.Numerical simulations are carried out to investigate the effect of low and high caloric diet on tumor dynamics of the generalized models. We perform the numerical simulations of the tumor-obesity model for different fractional order by varying immune response rate to compare the dynamics of the Caputo and CF fractional operators.Sadia Arshad Dumitru Baleanu Ozlem Defterli Shumaila 2019International Journal of Modeling, Simulation, and Scientific Computing2019,10,1:0
16A Transfer Learning Based Approach for COVID-19 Detection Using Inception-v4 Model显示文摘Coronavirus(COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2)is a novel viral infection that started in December 2019 and has erupted rapidly in more than 150 countries. The rapid spread of COVID-19 has caused a global health emergency and resulted in governments imposing lock-downs to stop its transmission. There is a signifi-cant increase in the number of patients infected, resulting in a lack of test resources and kits in most countries. To overcome this panicked state of affairs, researchers are looking forward to some effective solutions to overcome this situa-tion:one of the most common and effective methods is to examine the X-radiation(X-rays)and computed tomography(CT)images for detection of Covid-19.How-ever,this method burdens the radiologist to examine each report. Therefore,to reduce the burden on the radiologist,an effective, robust and reliable detection system has been developed, which may assist the radiologist and medical specia-list in effective detecting of COVID.We proposed a deep learning approach that uses readily available chest radio-graphs(chest X-rays)to diagnose COVID-19 cases. The proposed approach applied transfer learning to the Deep Convolutional Neural Network(DCNN)model,Inception-v4,for the automatic detection of COVID-19 infection from chest X-rays images. The dataset used in this study contains 1504 chest X-ray images,504 images of COVID-19 infection, and 1000 normal images obtained from publicly available medical repositories. The results showed that the proposed approach detected COVID-19 infection with an overall accuracy of 99.63%.Ali Alqahtani Shumaila Akram Muhammad Ramzan Fouzia Nawaz Hikmat Ullah Khan Essa Alhashlan Samar MAlqhtani Areeba Waris Zain Ali 2023Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing2023,,2:0

20Numerical Analysis of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCov) Pandemic Model with Advection显示文摘Recently, the world is facing the terror of the novel corona-virus,termed as COVID-19.Various health institutes and researchers are continuously striving to control this pandemic. In this article, the SEIAR(susceptible, exposed, infected, symptomatically infected, asymptomatically infected and recovered)infection model of COVID-19 with a constant rate of advection is studied for the disease propagation.A simple model of the disease is extended to an advection model by accommodating the advection process and some appropriate parameters in the system. The continuous model is transposed into a discrete numerical model by discretizing the domains, finitely. To analyze the disease dynamics,a structure preserving non-standard finite difference scheme is designed. Two steady states of the continuous system are described i.e.,virus free steady state and virus existing steady state.Graphical results show that both the steady states of the numerical design coincide with the fixed points of the continuous SEIAR model.Positivity of the state variables is ensured by applying the M-matrix theory.A result for the positivity property is established. For the proposed numerical design, two different types of the stability are investigated.Nonlinear stability and linear stability for the projected scheme is examined by applying some standard results.Von Neuman stability test is applied to ensure linear stability. The reproductive number is described and its pivotal role in stability analysis is also discussed.Consistency and convergence of the numerical model is also studied.Numerical graphs are presented via computer simulations to prove the worth and efficiency of the quarantine factor is explored graphically, which is helpful in controlling the disease dynamics. In the end,the conclusion of the study is also rendered.Shumaila Azam Nauman Ahmed Ali Raza Muhammad Sajid Iqbal Muhammad Rafiq Ilyas Khan Kottakkaran Sooppy Nisar Muhammad Ozair Ahmad Zafar Iqbal 2021Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,6:0
