1Exposing Cu-rich {110} active facets in PtCu nanostars for boosting electrochemical performance toward multiple liquid fuels electrooxidation显示文摘In catalysis,tuning the structural composition of the metal alloy is known as an efficient way to optimize the catalytic activity.This work presents the synthesis of compositional segregated six-armed PtCu nanostars via a facile solvothermal method and their distinct composition-structure-dependent performances in electrooxidation processes.The alloy is shown to have a unique six arms with a Cu-rich dodecahedral core,mainly composed of {110} facets and exhibit superior catalytic activity toward alcohols electrooxidation compared to the hollow counterpart where Cu was selectively etched.Density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that the formation of hydroxyl intermediate (OH^*) is crucial to detoxify CO poisoning during the electrooxidation processes.The addition of Cu is found to effectively adjust the d band location of the alloy catalyst and thus enhance the formation of ^*OH intermediate from water splitting,which decreases the coverage of ^*CO intermediate.Our work demonstrates that the unique compositional anisotropy in alloy catalyst may boost their applications in electrocatalysis and provides a methodology for the design of this type catalyst.Liping Huang Wei Zhang Peng Li Yongbo Song Hongting Sheng Yuanxin Du Yang-Gang Wang Yuen Wu Xun Hong Yanhuai Ding Xiaoyou Yuan Manzhou Zhu 2019Nano Research2019,12,5:4

8Role of local coordination in bimetallic sites for oxygen reduction: A theoretical analysis显示文摘Understanding of the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)mechanism for single atom catalysts is pivotal for the rational design of non-precious metal cathode materials and the commercialization of fuel cells.Herein,a series of non-precious metal electrocatalysts based on nitrogen-doped bimetallic(Fe and Co)carbide were modeled by density functional theory calculations to predict the corresponding reaction pathways.The study elucidated prior oxygen adsorption on the Fe atom in the dual site and the modifier role of Co atoms to tune the electronic structures of Fe.The reaction activity was highly correlated with the bimetallic center and the coordination environment of the adjacent nitrogen.Interestingly,the preadsorption of*OH resulted in the apparent change of metal atoms'electronic states with the d-band center shifting toward the Fermi level,thereby boosting reaction activity.The result should help promote the fundamental understanding of active sites in ORR catalysts and provide an effective approach to the design of highly efficient ORR catalysts on an atomic scale.Yuqi Yang Hao Zhang Zhaofeng Liang Yaru Yin Bingbao Mei Fei Song Fanfei Sun Songqi Gu Zheng Jiang Yuen Wu Zhiyuan Zhu 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,5:1

15Cu_(2+1)O/CuO_(x)heterostructures promote the electrosynthesis of C^(2+)products from CO_(2)显示文摘Manipulating the oxidation state of Cu catalysts can significantly affect the selectivity and activity of electrocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction(CO_(2)RR).However,the thermodynamically favorable cathodic reduction to metallic states typically leads to catalytic deactivation.Herein,a defect construction strategy is employed to prepare crystalline/amorphous Cu_(2+1)O/CuO_(x)heterostructures(c/a-CuO_(x))with abundant Cu0 and Cuδ+(0<δ<1)sites for CO_(2)RR.The C^(2+)Faradaic efficiency of the heterostructured Cu catalyst is up to 81.3%,with partial current densities of 406.7 mA·cm−2.Significantly,real-time monitoring of the Cu oxidation state evolution by in-situ Raman spectroscopy confirms the stability of Cuδ+species under long-term high current density operation.Density functional theory(DFT)calculations further reveal that the adjacent Cu0 and Cuδ+sites in heterostructured c/a-CuO_(x)can efficiently reduce the energy barrier of CO coupling for C^(2+)products.Rongbo Sun Cong Wei Zixiang Huang Shuwen Niu Xiao Han Cai Chen Haoran Wang Jia Song Jun-Dong Yi Geng Wu Dewei Rao Xusheng Zheng Yuen Wu Gongming Wang Xun Hong 2023Nano Research2023,16,4:0
16Analogous comparison unravels heightened antiviral defense and boosted viral infection upon immunosuppression in bat organoids显示文摘Horseshoe bats host numerous SARS-related coronaviruses without overt disease signs.Bat intestinal organoids,a unique model of bat intestinal epithelium,allow direct comparison with human intestinal organoids.We sought to unravel the cellular mechanism(s)underlying bat tolerance of coronaviruses by comparing the innate immunity in bat and human organoids.We optimized the culture medium,which enabled a consecutive passage of bat intestinal organoids for over one year.Basal expression levels of IFNs and IFN-stimulated genes were higher in bat organoids than in their human counterparts.Notably,bat organoids mounted a more rapid,robust and prolonged antiviral defense than human organoids upon Poly(I:C)stimulation.TLR3 and RLR might be the conserved pathways mediating antiviral response in bat and human intestinal organoids.The susceptibility of bat organoids to a bat coronavirus CoV-HKU4,but resistance to EV-71,an enterovirus of exclusive human origin,indicated that bat organoids adequately recapitulated the authentic susceptibility of bats to certain viruses.Importantly,TLR3/RLR inhibition in bat organoids significantly boosted viral growth in the early phase after SARS-CoV-2 or CoV-HKU4 infection.Collectively,the higher basal expression of antiviral genes,especially more rapid and robust induction of innate immune response,empowered bat cells to curtail virus propagation in the early phase of infection.Xiaojuan Liu Cun Li Zhixin Wan Man Chun Chiu Jingjing Huang Yifei Yu Lin Zhu Jian-Piao Cai Lei Rong You-qiang Song Hin Chu Zongwei Cai Shibo Jiang Kwok-yung Yuen Jie Zhou 2023Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,1:0
17Redefinition of the Odorrana versabilis Group,with a New Species from China(Anura,Ranidae,Odorrana)显示文摘Taxonomic studies of the Odorrana versabilis group have been consistently disorganized,and they have often been incorrectly associated with an abandoned subgenus or genus Bamburana in existing literature.In this study,we conducted an integrative taxonomic analysis using molecular phylogenetic analysis of two mitochondrial gene fragments(16S rRNA and CO1)and morphological examination of 41 specimens collected during herpetological surveys in southern China.Our results confirmed the monophyly of O.versabilis group which exhibited distinct morphological traits.We also identified a cryptic lineage sister with O.exiliversabilis.Additionally,our study revealed that O.trankieni was nested within O.nasuta.Consequently,we redefined the morphological characteristics of the O.versabilis group,described a new species in this group,O.confusa sp.nov.,and proposed that O.trankieni be considered a junior synonym of O.nasuta.One of the most significant findings of this study was the observation of distinct morphological changes in adult males across all species within the O.versabilis group between the non-breeding and breeding seasons.This study contributes to research on various aspects of Asian amphibian fauna,including taxonomy,ecology,evolution,and physiology.Hanming SONG Siyu ZHANG Shuo QI Zhitong LYU Zhaochi ZENG Yongheng ZHU Minghai HUANG FuchenLUAN Zufei SHU Yuening GONG Zhifa LIU Yingyong WANG 2023Asian Herpetological Research2023,14,4:0

19Targeting calcium signaling in Alzheimer’s disease: challenges and promising therapeutic avenues显示文摘The critical role of calcium dyshomeostasis in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease(AD):AD is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by cognitive decline,memory impairment,and behavioral changes.With an estimated 50 million people being affected worldwide,the incidence of AD is constantly increasing globally.The hallmark of AD is the accumulation of amyloid-beta protein(Aβ)in the form of amyloid plaques and hyperphosphorylated tau protein in the form of neurofibrillary tangles.However,increasing evidence suggests that calcium ion(Ca2+)dysregulation also plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of AD(Calvo-Rodriguez and Bacskai,2021).As a key second messenger,Ca2+regulates a wide range of cellular processes,including the release of neurotransmitters,gene expression,and cell death.Ca^(2+)also regulates the activity of Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II,which is critical for synaptic plasticity,learning,and memory(Kaushik et al.,2022).Alternation in the Ca^(2+)signal is an early event in the pathogenesis of AD,which can lead to synaptic dysfunction,neuronal loss,and cognitive impairment.LinLin Song YongPei Tang Betty Yuen Kwan Law 2024Neural Regeneration Research2024,19,3:0
20Shear behavior and off-fault damage of saw-cut smooth and tension-induced rough joints in granite显示文摘The damage of rock joints or fractures upon shear includes the surface damage occurring at the contact asperities and the damage beneath the shear surface within the host rock.The latter is commonly known as off-fault damage and has been much less investigated than the surface damage.The main contribution of this study is to compare the results of direct shear tests conducted on saw-cut planar joints and tension-induced rough granite joints under normal stresses ranging from 1 MPa to 50 MPa.The shear-induced off-fault damages are quantified and compared with the optical microscope observation.Our results clearly show that the planar joints slip stably under all the normal stresses except under 50 MPa,where some local fractures and regular stick-slip occur towards the end of the test.Both post-peak stress drop and stick-slip occur for all the rough joints.The residual shear strength envelopes for the rough joints and the peak shear strength envelope for the planar joints almost overlap.The root mean square(RMS)of asperity height for the rough joints decreases while it increases for the planar joint after shear,and a larger normal stress usually leads to a more significant decrease or increase in RMS.Besides,the extent of off-fault damage(or damage zone)increases with normal stress for both planar and rough joints,and it is restricted to a very thin layer with limited micro-cracks beneath the planar joint surface.In comparison,the thickness of the damage zone for the rough joints is about an order of magnitude larger than that of the planar joints,and the coalesced micro-cracks are generally inclined to the shear direction with acute angles.The findings obtained in this study contribute to a better understanding on the frictional behavior and damage characteristics of rock joints or fractures with different roughness.Fanzhen Meng Feili Wang Louis Ngai Yuen Wong Jie Song Muzi Li Chuanqing Zhang Liming Zhang 2024Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2024,16,4:0
