| 1 | Insight of magnesium alloys and composites for orthopedic implant applications-a review显示文摘Magnesium(Mg)and its alloys have been widely researched for orthopedic applications recently.Mg alloys have stupendous advantages over the commercially available stainless steel,Co-Cr-Ni alloy and titanium implants.Till date,extensive mechanical,in-vitro and in-vivo studies have been done to improve the biomedical performance of Mg alloys through alloying,processing conditions,surface modification etc.This review comprehensively describes the strategies for improving the mechanical and degradation performance of Mg alloys through properly tailoring the composition of alloying elements,reinforcements and processing techniques.It also highlights the status and progress of research in to(i)the selection of nutrient elements for alloying,reinforcement and its effects(ii)type of Mg alloy system(binary,ternary and quaternary)and composites(iii)grain refinement for strengthening through severe plastic deformation techniques.Furthermore it also emphasizes on the importance of Mg composites with regard to hard tissue applications. | R Radha D Sreekanth | 2017 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2017,5,3: | 21 |
| 2 | Pancreatic fluid collections: What is the ideal imaging technique?显示文摘Pancreatic fluid collections(PFCs) are seen in up to 50% of cases of acute pancreatitis. The Revised Atlanta classification categorized these collections on the basis of duration of disease and contents, whether liquid alone or a mixture of fluid and necrotic debris. Management of these different types of collections differs because of the variable quantity of debris; while patients with pseudocysts can be drained by straight-forward stent placement, walledoff necrosis requires multi-disciplinary approach. Differentiating these collections on the basis of clinical severity alone is not reliable, so imaging is primarily performed. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography is the commonly used modality for the diagnosis and assessment of proportion of solid contents in PFCs; however with certain limitations such as use of iodinated contrast material especially in renal failure patients and radiation exposure. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) performs better than computed tomography(CT) in characterization of pancreatic/peripancreatic fluid collections especially for quantification of solid debris and fat necrosis(seen as fat density globules), and is an alternative in those situations where CT is contraindicated. Also magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography is highly sensitive for detecting pancreatic duct disruption and choledocholithiasis. Endoscopic ultrasound is an evolving technique with higher reproducibility for fluid-to-debris component estimation with the added advantage of being a single stage procedure for both diagnosis(solid debris delineation) and management(drainage of collection) in the same sitting. Recently role of diffusion weighted MRI and positron emission tomography/CT with ^(18)F-FDG labeled autologous leukocytes is also emerging for detection of infection noninvasively. Comparative studies between these imaging modalities are still limited. | 3 | Design,synthesis,characterization,cytotoxic and structure activity relationships of novel Ru(Ⅱ) complexes显示文摘Platinum containing compounds have shown antineoplastic potential, but their clinical applications have been limited by high toxicity. Ruthenium containing complexes have long been known to be well suited for biological applications, and have long been utilized as replacements to popular platinum based-drugs. Here, we report a novel series of ruthenium(II) arene compounds bearing thiosemicarbazone and isonicotinylhydrazone ligands with potent anticancer activity their structure activity relationships and apoptosis was studied. The cytotoxic activity of the new ruthenium(II) arene compounds has been evaluated in several cell lines(Molt 4/C8, L1210, CEM, HL60 and BEL7402). | 4 | Structural Tuning of Low Band Gap Intermolecular Push/Pull Side-chain Polymers for Organic Photovoltaic Applications显示文摘A series of novel low band gap donor-acceptor(D-A) type organic co-polymers(BT-F-TPA, BT-CZ-TPA and BTSI-TPA) consisting of electron-deficient acceptor blocks both in main chains(M1)and at the pendant(M2) were polymerized with different electron rich donor(M3-M5) blocks,i.e., 9,9-dihexyl-9H-fluorene,N-alkyl-2,7-carbazole, and 2,6-dithinosilole, respectively, via Suzuki method. These polymers exhibited relatively low band gaps(1.65-1.88 e V) and broad absorption ranges(680-740 nm). Bulk heterojunction(BHJ) solar cells incorporating these polymers as electron donors, blended with [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester(PC61BM) or [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester(PC71BM) as electronacceptors in different weight ratios were fabricated and tested under 100 m W/cm2 of AM 1.5 with white-light illumination. The photovoltaic device containing donor BT-SI-TPA and acceptor PC71 BM in 1:2 weight ratio showed the best power conversion efficiency(PCE) value of 1.88%, with open circuit voltage(Voc) = 0.75 V, short circuit current density(Jsc) = 7.60 m A/cm2, and fill factor(FF) = 33.0%. | Ansuman Nayak P.S.
