| 1 | Physicochemical properties and in vitro antioxidant activities of pyroligneous acid prepared from brushwood biomass waste of Mangosteen, Durian, Rambutan, and Langsat显示文摘Physicochemical characteristics and in vitro antioxidant activities of four pyroligneous acids carbonized from the wastes of wood species including Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana Linn.), Durian (Durio zibethinus L.), Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum L.), and Langsat (Lansium domesticum Serr.) were assessed. Appearing as transparent liquors with pH 3.9–4.2, the pyroligneous acid samples under test possessed acetic acid (23.22–25.46%) as the dominant component. The total soluble tar, total acid, and water content were 0.15 - 0.28 wt%, 99–192 mg KOH/g and 84.5–93.5 wt%, respectively. Phenolic compounds namely: 2,6-dimethoxyphenol (6.88–9.69%),phenol (2.97–5.88%), 4-methylsyringol (3.10–3.56%), guaiacol (2.36–3.55%), and 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol (1.08–1.28%) were found. All had in vitro antioxidant activities especially mangosteen pyroligneous acid, which showed activity roughly similar to BHT (P>0.05) against anti-lipid peroxidation. Nitric oxide scavenging capacities of all pyroligneous acids were significantly higher than BHT (P<0.05). | 4 | Prediction of massive transfusion in trauma patients in the surgical intensive care units (THAI-SICU study)显示文摘Purpose: After damage control surgery, trauma patients are transferred to intensive care units to restore the physiology. During this period, massive transfusion might be required for ongoing bleeding and coagulopathy. This research aimed to identify predictors of massive blood transfusion in the surgical intensive care units (SICUs). Methods: This is an analysis of the THAI-SICU study which was a prospective cohort that was done in the 9-university-based SICUs in Thailand. The study included only patients admitted due to trauma mechanisms. Massive transfusion was defined as received >10 units of packed red blood cells on the first day of admission. Patient characteristics and physiologic data were analyzed to identify the potential factors. A multivariable regression was then performed to identify the significant model. Results: Three hundred and seventy patients were enrolled. Sixteen patients (5%) received massive transfusion in the SICUs. The factors that significantly predicted massive transfusion were an initial sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA)>9 (risk difference (RD) 0.13, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.03—0.22, p = 0.01);intra-operative blood loss > 4900 mL (RD 0.33, 95% CI: 0.04—0.62, p = 0.02) and intra-operative blood transfusion > 10 units (RD 0.45, 95% Cl: 0.06 to 0.84, p = 0.02). The probability to have massive transfusion was 0.976 in patients who had these 3 factors. Conclusion: Massive blood transfusion in the SICUs occurred in 5%. | 8 | Effective Aeromonas specific monoclonal antibody for immunodiagnosis显示文摘Objective: To identify the monoclonal antibody specific to Aeromonas spp., a Gram negative bacteria causing gastroenteritis and wound infection. Methods: The monoclone, namely 88 F2-3 F4, was produced from hybridoma technology. The specificity of antibody secreted from 88 F2-3 F4 was tested against other Gram negative bacteria frequently found in gastrointestinal tract. Then the antibody was used for searching Aeromonas antigens in artificial seeded rectal swab cultures by dot-blot enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results: 88 F2-3 F4 produced an antibody that recognized an antigen with a molecular mass of 8.5 k Da in all 123 isolates of the seven Aeromonas species tested, but recognized no epitope of any other Gram-negative bacterium typically found in the gastrointestinal tract. A dot-blot enzyme linked immunosorbent assay based on this antibody showed 86.49% sensitivity and 92.13% specificity. | 9 | Numerical Comparison of Shapeless Radial Basis Function Networks in Pattern Recognition显示文摘This work focuses on radial basis functions containing no parameters with themain objective being to comparatively explore more of their effectiveness.For this,a total of sixteen forms of shapeless radial basis functions are gathered and investigated under the context of the pattern recognition problem through the structure of radial basis function neural networks,with the use of the Representational Capability(RC)algorithm.Different sizes of datasets are disturbed with noise before being imported into the algorithm as‘training/testing’datasets.Each shapeless radial basis function is monitored carefully with effectiveness criteria including accuracy,condition number(of the interpolation matrix),CPU time,CPU-storage requirement,underfitting and overfitting aspects,and the number of centres being generated.For the sake of comparison,the well-known Multiquadric-radial basis function is included as a representative of shape-contained radial basis functions.The numerical results have revealed that some forms of shapeless radial basis functions show good potential and are even better than Multiquadric itself indicating strongly that the future use of radial basis function may no longer face the pain of choosing a proper shape when shapeless forms may be equally(or even better)effective. | Sunisa Tavaen Sayan Kaennakham | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,2: | 0 |
