1Simultaneous preparation of TiO2 and ammonium alum,and microporous SiO2 during the mineral carbonation of titanium-bearing blast furnace slag显示文摘In this study,a route for simultaneous mineralization of CO2 and production of titanium dioxide and ammonium alum,and microporous silicon dioxide from titanium-bearing blast furnace slag(TBBF slag)was proposed,which is comprised of(NH4)2 S04 roasting,acid leaching,ammonium alum crystallization,silicic acid flocculation and Ti hydrolysis.The effects of relevant process parameters were systematically investigated.The re sults showed that under the optimal roasting and leaching conditions about 85%of titanium and 84.6%of aluminum could be extracted while only 30%of silicon entered the leachate.84%of Al^3+was crystallized from the leachate in the form of ammonium aluminum sulfate dodecahydrate with a purity up to 99.5 wt%.About 85%of the soluble silicic acid was flocculated with the aid of secondary alcohol polyoxyethylene ether 9(AEO-9)to yield a microporous SiO2 material(97.4 wt%)from the crystallized mother liquor.The Al-and Si-depleted solution was then hydrolyzed to generate a titanium dioxide(99.1 wt%)with uniform particle size distribution.It was figured out that approximately 146 kg TiO2 could be produced from 1000 kg of TBBF slag.Therefore,the improved process is a promising method for industrial application.Yingjie Xiong Tahani Aldahri Weizao Liu Guanrun Chu Guoquan Zhang Dongmei Luo Hairong Yue Bin Liang Chun Li 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,9:7
2An Exploration of Deep-Learning Based Phenotypic Analysis to Detect Spike Regions in Field Conditions for UK Bread Wheat显示文摘Wheat is one of the major crops in the world,with a global demand expected to reach 850 million tons by 2050 that is clearly outpacing current supply.The continual pressure to sustain wheat yield due to the world’s growing population under fluctuating climate conditions requires breeders to increase yield and yield stability across environments.We are working to integrate deep learning into field-based phenotypic analysis to assist breeders in this endeavour.We have utilised wheat images collected by distributed CropQuant phenotyping workstations deployed for multiyear field experiments of UK bread wheat varieties.Based on these image series,we have developed a deep-learning based analysis pipeline to segment spike regions from complicated backgrounds.As a first step towards robust measurement of key yield traits in the field,we present a promising approach that employ Fully Convolutional Network(FCN)to performsemantic segmentation of images to segment wheat spike regions.We also demonstrate the benefits of transfer learning through the use of parameters obtained from other image datasets.We found that the FCN architecture had achieved a Mean classification Accuracy(MA)>82%on validation data and>76%on test data and Mean Intersection over Union value(MIoU)>73%on validation data and and>64%on test datasets.Through this phenomics research,we trust our attempt is likely to form a sound foundation for extracting key yield-related traits such as spikes per unit area and spikelet number per spike,which can be used to assist yield-focused wheat breeding objectives in near future.Tahani Alkhudaydi Daniel Reynolds Simon Griffiths Ji Zhou Beatriz de la Iglesia 2019Plant Phenomics2019,1,1:5
3Acid leaching of heavy metals from contaminated soil collected from Jeddah,Saudi Arabia:kinetic and thermodynamics studies显示文摘Urban soils polluted with heavy metals are of increasing concern because it is greatly affecting human health and the ecological systems.Hence,it is mandatory to understand the reasons behind this pollution and remediate the contaminated solid.The removal of heavy metals from contaminated soil samples collected from the vicinity of the sewage lake in Jeddah,Saudi Arabia,was explored.The leaching process was studied kinetically and thermodynamically for better understanding of the remediation process.The results showed that the soil samples were slightly basic in nature,and tend to be more neutral away from the main contaminated sewage lake area.The total metal content in the soil samples was measured using the aqua regia extractions by ICPOES and the results showed that many of the heavy metals present have significant concentrations above the tolerable limits.In general,the metal concentrations at different sites indicated that the heavy metal pollution is mainly due to the sewage discharge to the lake.The results showed excellent correlation between the concentrations of Co,As,and Hg with the distance from the main contaminated area.The leaching of Co,As,and Hg using 1.0 M hydrochloric acid from the soil was studied kinetically at different temperatures and the experimental results were fitted using different kinetics models.The experimental data were best described with two-constant rate and Elovich equation kinetic models.Also,the thermodynamic study showed that the leaching process was spontaneous,endothermic and accompanied with increase in the entropy.In general,the polluted soil could be remediated successfully from the heavy metals using the acid leaching procedure in a short period of time.Shorouq I.Alghanmi Amani F.Al Sulami Tahani A.El-Zayat Basma G.Alhogbi Mohamed Abdel Salam 2015International Soil and Water Conservation Research2015,3,3:4
4Seroprevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen in pregnant women attending antenatal clinic in Honiara Solomon Islands,2015显示文摘AIM To determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg) among pregnant women attending antenatal clinic in Honiara, Solomon Islands. METHODS This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in seven area health centers in Honiara. From March to June 2015, identification of eligible pregnant women in each site was conducted using systematic random sampling technique. A total of 243 pregnant women who gave written informed consent were enrolled. Standardized tool was used to record demographics, obstetric history and serology results. HBsAg and hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg) were tested using point-of-care rapid diagnostic test. All HBsAg positive samples were verified using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS The mean age of participants was 26 ± 6 years. The overall hepatitis HBsAg prevalence was 13.8% with higher rate(22%) reported in women between 30-34 years of age. Majority of HBsAg positive participants were Melanesians(29 out for 33). None of the pregnant women in the 15-19 years and ≥ 40 years tested positive for HBsAg. There was no statistically significant difference in HBsAg prevalence by age, ethnicity, education and residential location. The overall HBeAg seroprevalence was 36.7%. Women between 20-24 years of age had the highest rate of 54.5%. Low level of knowledge about hepatitis B vaccination was reputed. Overall, 54.6% of participants were not aware of their hepatitis B vaccination status and only 65.2% of mothers reported their child had been vaccinated.
