1High-speed colour-converting photodetector with all-inorganic CsPbBr_(3) perovskite nanocrystals for ultraviolet light communication显示文摘Optical wireless communication(OWC)using the ultra-broad spectrum of the visible-to-ultraviolet(UV)wavelength region remains a vital field of research for mitigating the saturated bandwidth of radio-frequency(RF)communication.However,the lack of an efficient UV photodetection methodology hinders the development of UV-based communication.The key technological impediment is related to the low UV-photon absorption in existing silicon photodetectors,which offer low-cost and mature platforms.To address this technology gap,we report a hybrid Sibased photodetection scheme by incorporating CsPbBr_(3) perovskite nanocrystals(NCs)with a high photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY)and a fast photoluminescence(PL)decay time as a UV-to-visible colourconverting layer for high-speed solar-blind UV communication.The facile formation of drop-cast CsPbBr_(3) perovskite NCs leads to a high PLQY of up to ~73% and strong absorption in the UV region.With the addition of the NC layer,a nearly threefold improvement in the responsivity and an increase of ~25% in the external quantum efficiency(EQE)of the solar-blind region compared to a commercial silicon-based photodetector were observed.Moreover,timeresolved photoluminescence measurements demonstrated a decay time of 4.5 ns under a 372-nm UV excitation source,thus elucidating the potential of this layer as a fast colour-converting layer.A high data rate of up to 34 Mbps in solar-blind communication was achieved using the hybrid CsPbBr_(3)-silicon photodetection scheme in conjunction with a 278-nm UVC light-emitting diode(LED).These findings demonstrate the feasibility of an integrated high-speed photoreceiver design of a composition-tuneable perovskite-based phosphor and a low-cost silicon-based photodetector for UV communication.Chun Hong Kang Ibrahim Dursun Guangyu Liu Lutfan Sinatra Xiaobin Sun Meiwei Kong Jun Pan Partha Maity Ee-Ning Ooi Tien Khee Ng Omar F.Mohammed Osman M.Bakr Boon S.Ooi 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:14
2巨峰和无核早红葡萄在越南谅山试种观察显示文摘[目的]观察巨峰、无核早红葡萄在越南谅山省的引种表现,为其在越南推广种植提供参考依据.[方法]2009年春从中国南宁引入巨峰、无核早红两个鲜食葡萄品种在越南谅山省试种,调查其枝蔓生长量、物候期、果实性状、产量等相关指标.[结果]至第1年抚育冬季,巨峰葡萄枝蔓总长234.5 cm,上架茎粗0.84 cm;无核早红葡萄枝蔓总长294.1 cm,上架茎粗0.86 cm.在物候期方面,巨峰葡萄从萌芽至果实成熟需141~151 d,表现中熟;无核早红从萌芽至果实成熟需142~151 d,未表现其应有的早熟特性.在果实性状方面,巨峰葡萄2010~2012年3年平均单果重8.9 g,种子数1.04粒,可溶性固形物(TSS)含量17.5%;无核早红葡萄2010~2012年3年平均单果重6.8 g,TSS含量13.9%.在产量方面,巨峰葡萄2010~2012年产量分别为13.69、17.50和16.24 t/ha;无核早红葡萄2010~2012年产量分别为10.81、16.02和20.92t/ha.[结论]巨峰葡萄在越南谅山省种植表现丰产稳产优质,具有较好的适栽性,可大面积推广种植;无核早红葡萄表现丰产稳产,但表现低糖低酸,极易裂果,着色困难,不宜在越南大面积发展.黄江流 PHAM Thi Thang 罗瑞鸿 NGUYN Thi Hà 吕荣华 LUONG Dǎng Ning CHU Vǎn DUòng NGUYN Manh Tòng 彭宏祥 Ly Ming Nguyet LU'O'NG i Thuy CHU Xun Tien VI Vǎn Dúc NGUYN Duy Dng Ly Dúc Khiêm 熊俏 2014南方农业学报2014,45,7:5
3Impaired norepinephrine regulation of monocyte inflammatory cytokine balance in heart failure显示文摘AIM To evaluate the effect of norepinephrine on inflammatory cytokine expression in ex vivo human monocytes and monocytic THP-1 cells. METHODS For human monocyte studies, cells were isolated from 12 chronic heart failure(HF)(66 ± 12 years, New York Heart Association functional class Ⅲ-Ⅳ, left ventricular ejection fraction 22% ± 9%) and 14 healthy subjects(66 ± 12 years). Monocytes(1 × 106/mL) were incubated with lipopolysaccharide(LPS) 100 ng/m L, LPS + norepinephrine(NE) 10-6 mol/L or neither(control) for 4 h. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNFα) and interleukin-10(IL-10) production were determined by ELISA. Relative contribution of α- and β-adrenergic receptor subtypes on immunomodulatory activity of NE was assessed in LPSstimulated THP-1 cells incubated with NE, the α-selective agonist phenylephrine(PE), and the β-selective agonist isoproterenol(IPN). NE-pretreated THP-1 cells were also co-incubated with the β-selective antagonist propranolol(PROP), α2-selective antagonist yohimbine(YOH) or the α1-selective antagonist prazosin(PRAZ). RESULTS Basal TNFα concentrations were higher in HF vs healthy subjects(6.3 ± 3.3 pg/mL vs 2.5 ± 2.6 pg/mL, P = 0.004). Norepinephrine's effect on TNFα production was reduced in HF(-41% ± 17% HF vs -57% ± 9% healthy, P = 0.01), and proportionately with NYHA FC. Increases in IL-10 production by NE was also attenuated in HF(16% ± 18% HF vs 38% ± 23% healthy, P = 0.012). In THP-1 cells, NE and IPN, but not PE, induced a dosedependent suppression of TNFα. Co-incubation with NE and antagonists revealed a dose-dependent inhibition of the NE suppression of TNFα by PROP, but not by YOH or PRAZ. Dose-dependent increases in IL-10 production were seen with NE and IPN, but not with PE. This effect was also antagonized by PROP but not by YOH or PRAZ. Pretreatment of cells with IPN attenuated the effects of NE and IPN, but did not induce a response to PE.CONCLUSION NE regulation of monocyte inflammatory cytokine production may be reduced in moderate-severe HF, and may be mediated through β-adrenergic receptors.Tien MH Ng Myron L Toews 2016World Journal of Cardiology2016,8,10:4

5Tapering-induced enhancement of light extraction efficiency of nanowire deep ultraviolet LED by theoretical simulations显示文摘A nanowire(NW) structure provides an alternative scheme for deep ultraviolet light emitting diodes(DUV-LEDs)that promises high material quality and better light extraction efficiency(LEE). In this report, we investigate the influence of the tapering angle of closely packed Al Ga N NWs, which is found to exist naturally in molecular beam epitaxy(MBE) grown NW structures, on the LEE of NW DUV-LEDs. It is observed that, by having a small tapering angle, the vertical extraction is greatly enhanced for both transverse magnetic(TM) and transverse electric(TE) polarizations. Most notably, the vertical extraction of TM emission increased from 4.8% to 24.3%,which makes the LEE reasonably large to achieve high-performance DUV-LEDs. This is because the breaking of symmetry in the vertical direction changes the propagation of the light significantly to allow more coupling into radiation modes. Finally, we introduce errors to the NW positions to show the advantages of the tapered NW structures can be projected to random closely packed NW arrays. 6The effect of turbulence on NLOS underwater wireless optical communication channels [Invited]显示文摘Conventional line-of-sight underwater wireless optical communication(UWOC)links suffer from huge signal fading in the presence of oceanic turbulence due to misalignment,which is caused by variations in the refractive index in the water.Non-line-of-sight(NLOS)communication,a novel underwater communication configuration,which has eased the requirements on the alignment,is supposed to enhance the robustness of the UWOC links in the presence of such turbulence.This Letter experimentally and statistically studies the impact of turbulence that arises from temperature gradient variations and the presence of different air bubble populations on NLOS optical channels.The results suggest that temperature gradient-induced turbulence causes negligible signal fading to the NLOS link.Furthermore,the presence of air bubbles with different populations and sizes can enhance the received signal power by seizing the scattering phenomena from an ultraviolet 377 nm laser diode.Mohammed Sait Xiaobin Sun Omar Alkhazragi Nasir Alfaraj Meiwei Kong Tien Khee Ng Boon S.Ooi 2019Chinese Optics Letters2019,17,10:2

8Large-scale and high-quality III-nitride membranes through microcavity-assisted crack propagation by engineering tensile-stressed Ni layers显示文摘Epitaxially grown III-nitride alloys are tightly bonded materials with mixed covalent-ionic bonds.This tight bonding presents tremendous challenges in developing III-nitride membranes,even though semiconductor membranes can provide numerous advantages by removing thick,inflexible,and costly substrates.Herein,cavities with various sizes were introduced by overgrowing target layers,such as undoped GaN and green LEDs,on nanoporous templates prepared by electrochemical etching of n-type GaN.The large primary interfacial toughness was effectively reduced according to the design of the cavity density,and the overgrown target layers were then conveniently exfoliated by engineering tensile-stressed Ni layers.The resulting III-nitride membranes maintained high crystal quality even after exfoliation due to the use of GaN-based nanoporous templates with the same lattice constant.The microcavity-assisted crack propagation process developed for the current III-nitride membranes forms a universal process for developing various kinds of large-scale and high-quality semiconductor membranes.Jung-Hong Min Kwangjae Lee Tae-Hoon Chung Jung-Wook Min Kuang-Hui Li Chun Hong Kang Hoe-Min Kwak Tae-Hyeon Kim Youyou Yuan Kyoung-Kook Kim Dong-Seon Lee Tien Khee Ng Boon S.Ooi 2022Opto-Electronic Science2022,1,10:1
9Demonstration of a low‐complexity memory‐polynomial‐aided neural network equalizer for CAP visible‐light communication with superluminescent diode显示文摘Visible-light communication(VLC)stands as a promising component of the future communication network by providing high-capacity,low-latency,and high-security wireless communication.Superluminescent diode(SLD)is proposed as a new light emitter in the VLC system due to its properties of droop-free emission,high optical power density,and low speckle-noise.In this paper,we analyze a VLC system based on SLD,demonstrating effective implementation of carrierless amplitude and phase modulation(CAP).We create a low-complexity memory-polynomial-aided neural network(MPANN)to replace the traditional finite impulse response(FIR)post-equalization filters of CAP,leading to significant mitigation of the linear and nonlinear distortion of the VLC channel.The MPANN shows a gain in Q factor of up to 2.7 dB higher than other equalizers,and more than four times lower complexity than a standard deep neural network(DNN),hence,the proposed MPANN opens a pathway for the next generation of robust and efficient neural network equalizers in VLC.We experimentally demonstrate a proof-of-concept 2.95-Gbit/s transmission using MPANN-aided CAP with 16-quadrature amplitude modulation(16-QAM)through a 30-cm channel based on the 442-nm blue SLD emitter.Fangchen Hu Jorge A.Holguin-Lerma Yuan Mao Peng Zou Chao Shen Tien Khee Ng Boon S.Ooi Nan Chi 2020Opto-Electronic Advances2020,3,8:1

17Traditional Chinese Medicine in Malaysia:A Brief Historical Overview of Education and Research显示文摘The education and research of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in Malaysia started coincidentally circa Malaysia’s independence movement.Before the independence,much of the development focused on establishing treatment centers and Chinese medical halls to provide TCM treatment.Periodicals and journals advocating TCM and its advancement were published between the 1940s and 1960s,but many did not survive after a few issues.The challenge posed by the Immigration Ordinance 1952 further united TCM practitioners and TCM associations to establish the Chinese Medical Institute of Malaya.The trend gained momentum,and many educational institutes were set up in each of Malaysia.From the 1970s,Malaysia started hosting regional and international TCM conferences.In 2000,TCM education in Malaysia had finally gained recognition from the government.ATCM program standard was thus released by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency(MQA).To date,there are seven private higher education institutions which offer TCM programs based on the MQA standards and have established international collaborations with other universities.It is projected that Malaysia’s TCM education and research will grow further as a result of China’s Belt and Road initiative.Hon Foong Wong Shih Chau Ng Wen Tien Tan Jun Liu Xun Lin Si Woei Goh Bao Ling Hoo Chyong En Chai Huiying Wang 2019Chinese Medicine and Culture2019,2,3:1
