1Prevalence,genotypes and factors associated with HCV infection among prisoners in Northeastern Brazil显示文摘AIM:To determine hepatitis C virus (HCV) seroprevalence and its genotypes,and to identify the factors associated with HCV infection.METHODS:This cross-sectional study,conducted in two prisons (one male and one female) in the State of Sergipe,Brazil,comprised 422 subjects.All of the prisoners underwent a rapid test for the detection of HCV antibodies.Patients with a positive result were tested for antiHCV by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and for HCV RNA by qualitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR).The virus genotype was defined in every serum sample that presented positive for PCR-HCV.In order to determine the factors independently associated with positive serology for HCV,multivariate logistic regression was used.RESULTS:HCV seroprevalence was 3.1%.Of the 13 subjects with positive anti-HCV,11 had viremia confirmed by PCR.Of these,90.9% had genotype 1.A total of 43 (10.2%) were injecting drug users,and HCV seroprevalence in this subgroup was 20.6%.The variable most strongly associated with positive serology for HCV was use of injecting drugs [odds ratio (OR),23.3;95% confidence interval (CI),6.0-90.8].Age over 30 years (OR,5.5;95%CI,1.1-29.2),history of syphilis (OR,9.8;95%CI,1.7-55.2) and history of household contact with HCV positive individual (OR,14.1;95%CI,2.3-85.4) were also independently associated with HCV infection.CONCLUSION:Most of the HCV transmissions result from parenteral exposure.However,there is evidence to suggest a role for sex and household contact with an infected subject in virus transmission.Bruno Fernandes de Oliveira Santos Nathalie Oliveira de Santana Alex Vianey Callado Franca 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,25:1

4Clinical study on prevalence and social determinants of postoperative infection at Kiziguro District Hospital, Rwanda显示文摘Background:Cesarean delivery is the commonest surgical procedure carried out worldwide in maternity.Cesarean delivery is accompanied by many complications among which surgical site infection is the most frequent.Surgical site infection is the second cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in the postpartum period after postpartum haemorrhage.Social factors,such as health insurance,may have an impact on different maternal morbidities and quality of care for pregnant women attending health facilities.The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence and factors associated with surgical site infection following caesarean delivery at Kiziguro District Hospital.Methods:It was the facility-based retrospective cross-sectional study.The sample size of 414 women was simply and randomly selected from 1001 women who underwent caesarean section from January 2018 to December 2018.Results:The prevalence of surgical site infection was 7.7%and its associated factors were the absence of health insurance and meconium-stained amniotic fluid.Women with health insurance were 99%(adjusted odds ratio:0.01,95%confidence interval:0.001–0.201)less likely to develop surgical site infections compared to women without health insurance,while women with clear amniotic fluid were 98.6%less likely to acquire surgical site infections(adjusted odds ratio:0.014,95%confidence interval:0.002–0.128)compared to women with meconiumstained amniotic fluid.Conclusion:surgical site infections prevalence among women delivered by cesarean section at Kiziguro District Hospital was found to be significant and women without health insurance and those with meconium-stained amniotic fluid are most vulnerable thus,infection and prevention control policymaker at the facility and national level are advised to assess at large all social barriers to health service accessibility and include them in their infection and prevention control policy.Kiziguro District Hospital is advised to take infection and prevention control precaution for women without health insurance and women with meconium-stained amniotic fluid.Mbayire Vedaste Kagimbangabo Jean Marie Vianey Habtu Micheal Ngomi Nicholas Njau 2020Life Research2020,3,3:0
5Insecticidal Effect of Green Bimetallic Nanoparticles from Crotalaria longirostrata on Cotton Mealybug,Phenacoccus solenopsis显示文摘The present study was conducted to evaluate the impact of bimetallic nanoparticles(NPs)of copper(Cu)and zinc(Zn)from Crotalaria longirostrata on the insect mortality and cell viability of Phenacoccus solenopsis.The biosynthesis of bimetallic nanoparticles(Cu/Zn-NPs)from C.longirostrata was confirmed by the presence of a single peak around 378 nm.The hydrodynamic diameter of the Cu/Zn nanoparticles varied from 59 to 119 nm and their zeta potential was found to be−30.90 mV.The EDX analysis showed a strong signal for Cu and Zn(8 and 8.6 keV,respectively).The Cu/Zn-NPs showed an effective insecticide activity against P.solenopsis with 63%of insect mortality after 96 h treatment.However,further studies about nanotoxicity of Cu/Zn-NPs from C.longirostra are needed to reveal the exact mechanism of nanoparticles toxicity in insects.Vianey Mendez-Trujillo Benjamín Valdez-Salas Mario Curiel-Alvarez Ernesto Beltran-Partida Arnoldo Alfaro-Corres EsaúRuiz-Sanchez Gerardo Bautista-Trujillo Olivia Tzintzun Camacho Onecimo Grimaldo-Juarez Carlos Ceceña-Duran Carlos Ail-Catzin Daniel González-Mendoza 2022Journal of Renewable Materials2022,10,10:0
