2Grain-size characteristics of linear dunes on the northern margin of Qarhan Salt Lake, northwestern China显示文摘In order to clarify the formation mechanism of linear dunes on the northern margin of Qarhan Salt Lake, northwestern China, we analyzed the grain-size and sorting parameters of the dune and interdune sands. The surface sands(0–30 mm) from the dune base to the crest of both flanks and interdune corridors were sampled along transects from upwind to downwind through the dune field. The results indicated that the grain-size distribution differed at different positions between and within the dunes. The frequency curve for dune sands mainly showed a bimodal distribution, while the interdune sediments showed a trimodal distribution. The grain size distribution of the linear dunes showed a finer crest pattern, i.e. the crests were composed of sands that were generally finer, better sorted than those of base sands. In addition, at the dune field scale, the dune crest sands were tending to become much finer but sorting became worse along the downwind transects. However, the grain-size parameters of sediments in the interdune corridors showed no clear pattern. The results demonstrated that the grain size and sorting parameters exhibited a systematic change not only at the individual scale but also at the dune field scale. Our results quantitatively estimate the limited role of cohesive sediments on the formation of linear dune under unidirectional wind regime. 3T lymphocytes in the intestinal mucosa: defense and tolerance显示文摘Although lymphocytes are known to circulate throughout lymphoid tissues and blood,they also establish residency in nonlymphoid organs,most prominently in barrier tissues,such as the intestines.The adaptation of T lymphocytes to intestinal environments requires constant discrimination between natural stimulation from commensal flora and food and pathogens that need to be cleared.Genetic variations that cause a defective defense or a break in tolerance along with environmental cues,such as infection or imbalances in the gut microbiota known as dysbiosis,can trigger several immune disorders via the activation of T lymphocytes in the intestines.Elucidation of the immune mechanisms that distinguish between commensal flora and pathogenic organisms may reveal therapeutic targets for the prevention or modulation of inflammatory diseases and boost the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy.In this review,we discuss the development and adaptation of T lymphocytes in the intestine,how these cells protect the host against pathogenic infections while tolerating food antigens and commensal microbiota,and the potential implications of targeting these cells for disease management and therapeutics.Hongdi Ma Wanyin Tao Shu Zhu 2019Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,3:6
4Pattern analysis of a linear dune field on the northern margin of Qarhan Salt Lake,northwestern China显示文摘In terms of formation mechanisms of linear dunes,there are open arguments for their widespread distribution and multi-morphological diversities.In order to clarify the formation mechanism of linear dunes of Qarhan Salt Lake,we used pattern analysis method to analyze the statistical characteristics and spatial variation of their pattern parameters.Except at the west-northwest margin,the pattern parameters showed regular spatial variation from the up-middle part towards the downwind end of the dune field.Based on the cumulative probability plots for inter-crest spacing and crest length,we divided the linear dunes into three groups,which corresponding to the three evolution stages of these dunes.The first group comprises erosional relics,with shorter crests,smaller inter-crest spacing and more random dune orientation.The second group comprises dunes whose sand supply is just sufficient to maintain stability and these dunes are approaching the net erosion stage.The crest length and inter-crest spacing of these dunes are much larger than those of the first group,and dune orientation is closer to the resultant drift direction (RDD) .The last group comprises linear dunes that are still undergoing vertical accretion and longitudinal elongation,which follows the RDD of the modern wind regime.The presence of regular spatial variation of pattern parameters and a similar geometry with the vegetated linear dunes suggest that deposition and erosion coexist in the development and evolution of linear dunes of Qarhan Salt Lake,i.e.deposition predominates at the downwind end of linear dunes in the vertical accretion and longitudinal elongation stage,whereas erosion mainly occurs at the upwind end of linear dunes in the degradation stage.Therefore,the formation mechanism of linear dunes in Qarhan Salt Lake can be reasonably explained by the combination of depositional and erosional theories.LI Jiyan DONG Zhibao QIAN Guangqiang ZHANG Zhengcai LUO Wanyin LU Junfeng WANG Meng 2016Journal of Arid Land2016,8,5:6
5Evaluating the optimal porosity of fences for reducing wind erosion显示文摘Porosity is the most important parameter determining the shelter efficiency of fences.Wind measurements were made around fence models with different porosities in a wind tunnel.The optimal fence porosity is evaluated by means of Gandemer's method that com-bines the effects of wind reduction and turbulence fields on the shelter efficiency for abating wind erosion.Defining the optimal po-rosity must take into account of its own purposes,required shelter degree and area to be sheltered.Turbulence has profound impacts on the shelter efficiency of high degree.Two concepts:absolute optimal porosity and practical optimal porosity concerning optimal porosity are proposed.Choosing the practical optimal porosity means reducing cost without significant expense of shelter efficiency.According to the evaluation in present study,the absolute optimal porosity for providing high degree of shelter to abate wind erosion is 0.20 while the practical optimal porosity is around 0.40.If a less shelter degree but over wider area is required,the absolute optimal porosity ranges from 0.05 to 0.10 and the practical optimal porosity is 0.10.For any degree of shelter for abating wind erosion effec-tively,the fence porosity must be less than or equal 0.40.ZhiBao Dong WanYin Luo GuangQiang Qian HongTao Wang 2011Research in Cold and Arid Regions2011,3,1:5
6An investigation of the effects of dust storms on rat lung using HRCT and blood gas analysis显示文摘The increasing intensity and frequency of sand-dust storms in China has led to greater prominence of associated environmental and health issues. Many studies have focused on the health effects of air particulate contaminants, but few formal investigations have studied the effects of sand-dust storms on human and animal health. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of dust storms on rat lung by using high resolution computed tomography(HRCT) and blood gas analysis through a wind tunnel simulating. We found that the rat lung damage effects can be detected by the HRCT imaging after exposure to sand-dust storm environments, but had no obvious result through blood gas analysis. Exposure durations positively correlated with the damage degree to lung tissue. 7Effects of geomorphic conditions, wind speed, and precipitation on dustfall over northern China显示文摘We investigated how dustfall flux (DF) and dust particle size (DPS) were affected by geomorphic conditions, wind speed, and precipitation using data from 27 sites in northern China. The sites with the greatest DF and greatest median diameter of dustfall (MDD) were primarily in desert regions and had extensive mobile sands. DF and MDD were lowest in agricultural regions, which had low levels of coarse particles because of human land use and high vegetation coverage that restrained blowing sand. DF values were higher and MDD values were lower in the western agricultural region than in the eastern agricultural region because the former is closer to desert regions and contains more fine dust that has traveled far. In regions with extensive desertified lands, DF values were lower than those in desert regions, and MDD values were greater than in agricultural regions, possibly due to coarsening of soil texture by desertification processes combined with higher vegetation coverage and soil moisture than in desert regions, thereby restraining blowing sand. Although high DF and MDD always coincided spatially with strong winds and low precipitation, the strong winds and low precipitation did not always mean high DF and MDD. High DF also coincided temporally with periods of low precipitation, but low precipitation did not always mean high DF. Thus, although the spatial trends in DF and DPS were controlled mostly by geomorphic conditions, and monthly trends in DF were controlled mainly by wind speed, weak wind and high precipitation can restrain the blowing sand at certain times and locations. 9Airflow patterns upwind of obstacles and their significance for echo dune formation:A field measurement of the effects of the windward slope angle显示文摘The velocities in front of five topographic obstacles with windward slope angles between 45° and 80° were measured using ultrasonic anemometers in the field at the southeastern margin of the Tengger Desert.The characteristics of the horizontal and vertical velocities indicated that the airflow pattern was significantly influenced by the obstacle's windward slope angle.The horizontal flow decelerated but the vertical flow accelerated upwind of the obstacles when the windward slope was less than 60°,but a reversed flow formed in front of steeper obstacles.The size of the area occupied by the reversed horizontal component increased with increasing windward slope,but the region of reversed vertical velocity became narrower and taller.Airflow turbulence was strengthened as the wind approached the obstacle,and low-frequency high-energy velocity fluctuations were observed upwind of the obstacle,and could affect the entrainment and saltation processes of sand particles.Turbulence intensities for both the horizontal and vertical components of the airflow increased with increasing windward slope and with decreasing distance from the obstacle.The deceleration and downward movement of airflow upwind of the obstacle would result in supersaturation of the air-sand flow,leading to deposition of moving sand,and these deposited grains would become the material basis for the formation of echo dunes.The reversed airflow would both determine the initial position of the echo dune and provide the necessary motive power to subsequently shape the echo dune.GuangQiang Qian ZhiBao Dong WanYin Luo ZhengCai Zhang AiGuo Zhao 2012Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,4:3
10Prediction Model for Dendrolimus punctatus Walker in Coastal Shelterbelt in Zhejiang Province of China显示文摘[Objective]The paper was to establish prediction model for Dendrolimus punctatus Walker in coastal shelterbelt in Zhejiang Province of China.[Method]Using the principles and methods of SAS software,and according to the correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis,we selected the relevant meteorological factors from April 1982 to March 2006 as the variables and the population density of D.punctatus from 1983 to 2006 as the dependent variables,to establish the prediction model between insect population density and meteorological factors for D.punctatus in coastal shelterbelt.[Result]By fitting test,the historical compliance rate of the equation was above 85%.When the related data from 2007 to 2011 were used for prediction test,the occurrence condition had small relative error with prediction results except the years seriously affected by natural disasters.[Conclusion]The paper provides certain reference for pest control against D.punctatus in coastal shelterbelt.Tian Wanyin Xu Huachao 2013Plant Diseases and Pests2013,4,5:2
11Advanced protein adsorption properties of a novel silicate-based bioceramic: A proteomic analysis显示文摘Silicate bioceramics have been shown to possess excellent cytocompatibility and osteogenic activity,but the exact mechanism is still unclear.Protein adsorption is the first event taking place at the biomaterial-tissue interface,which is vital to the subsequent cellular behavior and further influence the biomaterial-tissue interaction.In this work,the protein adsorption behavior of a novel CPS bioceramic was evaluated using the proteomics technology.The results showed that CPS adsorbed more amount and types of serum proteins than HA.FN1 and IGF1 proteins selected from proteomics results were validated by Western-blot experiment.Pathway analysis also revealed mechanistic insights how these absorbed proteins by CPS help mediate cell adhesion and promotes osteogenic activity.Firstly,the dramatically enhanced adsorption of FN1 could greatly promote cell adhesion and growth.Secondly,IGF1 was uniquely adsorbed on CPS bioceramic and IGF1 could activate Rap1 signaling pathway to promote cell adhesion.Thirdly,the increased adsorption of FN1,IGF1 and COL1A2 proteins on CPS explains its better ability on bone regeneration than HA.Fourthly,the increased adsorption of IGF1,CHAD,COL2A1 and THBS4 proteins on CPS explains its ability on cartilage formation.Lastly,the increased adsorption of immunological related proteins on CPS may also play a positive role in bone regeneration.In addition,CPS had a much better cell adhesion ability than HA,proving that more adsorbed proteins really had a positive effect on cell behavior.The more adsorbed proteins on CPS than HA might indicated a better bone regeneration rate at early stage of implantation.Fanyan Deng Wanyin Zhai Yue Yin Chao Peng Congqin Ning 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,1:2

17Measuring the velocity of sand particles in an air/particle two-phase flow:A comparison of several commonly used methods显示文摘The velocity of blown sand particles is an important parameter in aeolian movement (a special case of gas particle two-phase flow) and has ever been a topic of interest. At present, several techniques have been applied in measuring velocity of the blown sand particles. This paper reviews the measurement results of several commonly used methods: photoelectric cell method, high-speed photographic method, Particle Dynamics Analyzer (PDA) method and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) method. Photoelectric cell method, high-speed photograph method and PDA method are useful in studying the velocity distribution of particles. PIV is a whole-flow-field technique and a useful tool to study the average velocity field in a target area. These methods got some similar results but considerable differences also exist. They have come to similar conclusions on the velocity distributions at a single height but direct measurement results with respect to the velocity distribution very close to the surface are still scarce except some PDA results. The magnitude of measured mean particle velocity differs greatly. The relationship obtained by different methods between mean particle velocity and wind velocity, particle size and possibly other influencing factors also differs considerably. Although several authors have proposed similar power functions to describe the variation with height of the mean particle velocity, the predicted results have wide differences. Each technique is based on some unique principles, and has its advantages and disad- vantages. To make full use of different techniques, a lot of work needs be done to validate them.
