| 1 | A PERIODICALLY LOCALIZED TRAVELING WAVE STATE OF BINARY FLUID CONVECTION WITH HORIZONTAL FLOWS显示文摘In this paper, the convection structure in a rectangular channel with a horizontal flow was studied for the aspect ratio Γx=12 and the separation ratio ψ=-0.11. Our simulations were preformed by solving the hydrodynamic equations using the SIMPLE method. In the system of binary fluid convection with a horizontal flow, a Periodically Localized Traveling Wave (PLTW) state was found. It has similar behavior to classical Rayleigh-Benard convection in a binary fluid mixture, but the region and wave number of convection change periodically with time. The instability of PLTW depends on the Rayleigh number r and the intensity of horizontal flows Re for given ψ. | 2 | NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF TRAVELING WAVE CONVECTION IN A WEAKLY NONLINEAR REGIME显示文摘This paper presents a simulational result on a blinking traveling wave (BTW) state in binary fluid convection in a rectangular cell. The numerical simulations were made using the two dimensional perturbation equations of full hydrodynamic equations. We found for the first time that the BTW or sloshing traveling wave state is a type of modulated traveling wave (MTW) generated by the motion of a source defect which originates from the reflection effect at the end walls and depends on the reduced Rayleigh number r. Comparison with the localized traveling wave (LTW) shows that the BTW is convective patterns on a weakly nonlinear branch with a small amplitude and the LTW is those on a full nonlinear branch whth a large amplitude. They have different dynamical behaviour.
