3Facile Preparation of a Porous Biochar Derived from Waste Crab Shell with High Removal Performance for Diesel显示文摘In this study,a porous biochar material derived from waste crab shell was prepared by one-step hydrothermal carbonization and acetic acid activation method at 180°C,which was characterized by SEM,BET,XRD and FTIR.The results show that the as-prepared crab shell biochar(CSB)exhibits a fluffy irregular layered structure with abundant pores and oxygen-containing functional groups,which can facilitate the adsorption of diesel using CSB.In addition,batch adsorption experiments had been performed,effects of initial diesel concentration,adsorption time,adsorbent dosage and pH on the diesel adsorption using CSB were analyzed,which could be observed that CSB has high removal efficiency for diesel,and the maximum removal rate is up to 80.1%.The adsorption isotherms and kinetic studies were also investigated to determine the adsorption mechanism of diesel using CSB,the results show that the Langmuir model and the pseudo-second-order model are more suitable for describing the adsorption of diesel using CSB,indicating that the adsorption of diesel oil by CSB is monolayer chemical adsorption.This study will provide a theoretical basis for the high-value utilization of waste crab shell,which has a great potential in the treatment of oil spill.Xiao Han Zhaodi Wu Yi Yang Jian Guo Yaning Wang Lu Cai Wendong Song Lili Ji 2021Journal of Renewable Materials2021,9,8:1
4Herpes B virus:History,zoonotic potential,and public health implications显示文摘Recently,death from herpes B virus(Cercopithecine Herpesvirus 1)infection was reported in China,reminding us to be alert to the risk of transmission and infection with herpes B virus.Herpes B virus is a zoonotic pathogen that can cause fatal encephalomyelitis in humans.The virus naturally infects rhesus monkeys,causing diseases like human herpes simplex virus(HSV)infection,which are often asymptomatic or mild in the rhesus macaque.However,herpes B virus infection can be fatal to humans.Without timely treatment,the mortality rate of herpes B virus infection is as high as 70%-80%.To date,approximately 50 cases of human herpes B virus(HBV)infection have been reported worldwide.Most cases are related to direct contact with macaques,such as scratching,biting,or mucosal contact with monkey body fluids or secretions.Although the risk of human-to-human transmission is low,the widespread prevalence of the virus among monkeys,the high mortality of infected persons,and the severe neurological sequelae of survivors render this virus an important zoonotic pathogen that threatens human beings.Biorisk-related training programs for at risk personnel and timely treatment after exposure to the B virus can reduce infection rate and mortality.The early initiation of antiviral therapy prevents severe disease or death after the rapid diagnosis of human B virus disease.Identification of risk factors is essential in controlling the spread of the herpes B virus in the population at risk.Geng Hu Haijun Du Yaning Liu Guizhen Wu Jun Han 2022Biosafety and Health2022,4,4:0

7An Easily Compatible Eye-tracking System for Freely-moving Small Animals显示文摘Measuring eye movement is a fundamental approach in cognitive science as it provides a variety of insightful parameters that reflect brain states such as visual attention and emotions.Combining eye-tracking with multimodal neural recordings or manipulation techniques is beneficial for understanding the neural substrates of cognitive function.Many commercially-available and custom-built systems have been widely applied to awake,head-fixed small animals.However,the existing eyetracking systems used in freely-moving animals are still limited in terms of their compatibility with other devices and of the algorithm used to detect eye movements.Here,we report a novel system that integrates a general-purpose,easily compatible eye-tracking hardware with a robust eye feature-detection algorithm.With ultra-light hardware and a detachable design,the system allows for more implants to be added to the animal's exposed head and has a precise synchronization module to coordinate with other neural implants.Moreover,we systematically compared the performance of existing commonly-used pupil-detection approaches,and demonstrated that the proposed adaptive pupil feature-detection algorithm allows the analysis of more complex and dynamic eye-tracking data in freemoving animals.Synchronized eye-tracking and electroencephalogram recordings,as well as algorithm validation under five noise conditions,suggested that our system is flexibly adaptable and can be combined with a wide range of neural manipulation and recording technologies.Kang Huang Qin Yang Yaning Han Yulin Zhang Zhiyi Wang Liping Wang Pengfei Wei 2022Neuroscience Bulletin2022,38,6:0
8Identification of oleic acid as an endogenous ligand of GPR3显示文摘Although GPR3 plays pivotal roles in both the nervous system and metabolic processes,such as cold-induced thermogenesis,its endogenous ligand remains elusive.Here,by combining structural approach(including cryo-electron microscopy),mass spectrometry analysis,and functional studies,we identify oleic acid(OA)as an endogenous ligand of GPR3.Our study reveals a hydrophobic tunnel within GPR3 that connects the extracellular side of the receptor to the middle of plasma membrane,enabling fatty acids to readily engage the receptor.Functional studies demonstrate that OA triggers downstream Gs signaling,whereas lysophospholipids fail to activate the receptor.Moreover,our research reveals that cold stimulation induces the secretion of OA in mice,subsequently activating Gs/cAMP/PKA signaling in brown adipose tissue.Notably,brown adipose tissues from Gpr3 knockout mice do not respond to OA during cold stimulation,reinforcing the significance of GPR3 in this process.Finally,we propose a“born to be activated and cold to enhance”model for GPR3 activation.Our study provides a starting framework for the understanding of GPR3 signaling in cold-stimulated thermogenesis.Yangjie Xiong Zhenmei Xu Xinzhi Li Yuqin Wang Jing Zhao Na Wang Yaning Duan Ruixue Xia Zhengbin Han Yu Qian Jiale Liang Anqi Zhang Changyou Guo Asuka Inoue Yu Xia Zheng Chen Yuanzheng He 2024Cell Research2024,34,3:0
9MouseVenue3D:A Markerless Three-Dimension Behavioral Tracking System for Matching Two-Photon Brain Imaging in Free-Moving Mice显示文摘Understanding the connection between brain and behavior in animals requires precise monitoring of their behaviors in three-dimensional(3-D)space.However,there is no available three-dimensional behavior capture system that focuses on rodents.Here,we present MouseVenue3D,an automated and low-cost system for the efficient capture of 3-D skeleton trajectories in markerless rodents.We improved the most time-consuming step in 3-D behavior capturing by developing an automatic calibration module.Then,we validated this process in behavior recognition tasks,and showed that 3-D behavioral data achieved higher accuracy than 2-D data.Subsequently,MouseVenue3D was combined with fast high-resolution miniature two-photon microscopy for synchronous neural recording and behavioral tracking in the freely-moving mouse.Finally,we successfully decoded spontaneous neuronal activity from the 3-D behavior of mice.Our findings reveal that subtle,spontaneous behavior modules are strongly correlated with spontaneous neuronal activity patterns.Yaning Han Kang Huang Ke Chen Hongli Pan Furong Ju Yueyue Long Gao Gao Runlong Wu Aimin Wang Liping Wang Pengfei Wei 2022Neuroscience Bulletin2022,38,3:0
10Sulfite activation by ZnO-encapsulated hydrogels for degradation of trimethylphenol显示文摘Trimethylphenol is an organic toxic byproduct of industrial process,which is difficult to be eliminated through conventional degradation without harsh conditions.In this work,a sulfite-based oxidation process activated by ZnO-embedded hydrogel was studied for the degradation of 2,4,6-trimethylphenols in the ambient conditions.The ZnO/Na_(2)SO_(3)oxidative system can effectively degrade trimethylphenol via the generation of radicals such as SO_(4)^(-)·,OH·,and SO_(3)^(−)·.The presence of hydrogel matrix facilitates the distribution and recyclability of ZnO catalysts while maintaining high degradation kinetics and little leaching of metal ions.Results suggest the promising potential of ZnO-hydrogel in wastewater treatment with good performance in terms of pH sensitivity,anion interference,recyclability,etc.The combination of ZnO catalysts,hydrogel,and sulfite-based advanced oxidation process may provide essential support for the current treatment of alkylated phenols with strong potential in the commercial scale-ups.Jiyuan Nai Yaning Han Shoudu Zhang Youxun Li Xiaowei Chen Ren’an Wu Li Wang Lei Jiang 2023Nano Research2023,16,10:0
11Structural basis of omega-3 fatty acid receptor FFAR4 activation and G protein coupling selectivity显示文摘Dear Editor,Omega(w)-3 fatty acids are known to have multiple beneficial effects on health,including anti-inflammation,enhancement of glucose uptake and promotion of brain development.'The effects of w-3 fatty acids are mainly mediated by free fatty acid receptor 4(FFAR4,also known as GPR120),a member of G protein-coupled receptor(GPCR)superfamily.FFAR4 plays crucial roles in main-taining metabolic homeostasis via regulating adipogenesis,insulin sensitivity and inflammation,and is a highly valuable target for treating metabolic diseases such as diabetes.Other FFARs include FFAR1(GPR40)which responds to long-chain FFAs(>12 carbons),and FFAR2(GPR43)and FFAR3(GPR41)that respond to short-chain FFAs(<6 carbons).FFAR4 responds to long-chain FFAs,and a common feature of FFAR4 ligands is the existence of multiple cis double-bonds on the acyl chain of the fatty acids,such as a-linolenic acid(18:3,aLa),stearidonic acid(18:4),eicosapentaenoic acid(20:5,EPA)and docosahexaenoic acid(22:6,DHA).'FFAR4 primarily couples to Gg pathway,but also has been reported to signal through Gs and G.Han Yin Asuka Inoue Zhengxiong Ma Xinyan Zhu Ruixue Xia Zhenmei Xu Na Wang Yaning Duan Anqi Zhang Changyou Guo Yuanzheng He 2023Cell Research2023,33,8:0
