7Acute effects of partial-body vibration in sitting position显示文摘AIM To investigate the acute effects of sinusoidal and stochastic resonance partial-body vibration in sitting position, including muscle activity, heart rate variability, balance and flexibility.METHODS Fifty healthy participants were assigned randomly to two training conditions: A sinusoidal partial-body vibration(SIN, 8 Hz) or a stochastic resonance partial-body vibration(STOCH, 8 ± 2 Hz). For baseline assessment participants sat on the vibration platform without vibration. Both training conditions consisted of five series of a one-minute vibration training and a one-minutebreak between them. In this experimental study surface electromyography(EMG) of the erector spinae(ES), one of the back muscles, and heart rate variability(HRV) was measured at baseline and during training. Balance and flexibility were assessed at baseline and immediately after training. Balance was measured with the modified star excursion balance test(mS EBT) and flexibility was assessed through the modified fingertip-to-floor method(mF TF).RESULTS Paired sample t-test showed a significant increase in balance that was restricted to STOCH(t =-2.22, P = 0.018; SIN: t =-0.09, P = 0.466). An increase in flexibility was also restricted to STOCH(t = 2.65, P = 0.007; SIN: t = 1.41, P = 0.086). There was no significant change of muscle activity in the ES-EMG in STOCH or SIN conditions. In both training conditions, HRV decreased significantly, but remained in a low-load range(STOCH: t = 2.89, P = 0.004; SIN: t = 2.55, P = 0.009).CONCLUSION In sitting position, stochastic resonance partial-body vibration can improve balance and flexibility while cardiovascular load is low. 8Millijoule ultrafast optical parametric amplification as replacement for high-gain regenerative amplifiers显示文摘We report on the development of an ultrafast optical parametric amplifier front-end for the Petawatt High Energy Laser for heavy Ion eXperiments(PHELIX)and the Petawatt ENergy-Efficient Laser for Optical Plasma Experiments(PEnELOPE)facilities.This front-end delivers broadband and stable amplification up to 1 mJ per pulse while maintaining a high beam quality.Its implementation at PHELIX allowed one to bypass the front-end amplifier,which is known to be a source of pre-pulses.With the bypass,an amplified spontaneous emission contrast of 4.9×10^(−13)and a pre-pulse contrast of 6.2×10^(−11)could be realized.Due to its high stability,high beam quality and its versatile pump amplifier,the system offers an alternative for high-gain regenerative amplifiers in the front-end of various laser systems.Yannik Zobus Christian Brabetz Johannes Hornung Jonas BOhland Dirk Reemts Ji-Ping Zou Markus Loeser Daniel Albach Ulrich Schramm Vincent Bagnoud 2023High Power Laser Science and Engineering2023,11,4:0
9Tbit/s line-rate satellite feeder links enabled by coherent modulation and full-adaptive optics显示文摘Free-space optical(FSO)communication technologies constitute a solution to cope with the bandwidth demand of future satellite-ground networks.They may overcome the RF bottleneck and attain data rates in the order of Tbit/s with only a handful of ground stations.Here,we demonstrate single-carrier Tbit/s line-rate transmission over a free-space channel of 53.42 km between the Jungfraujoch mountain top(3700 m)in the Swiss Alps and the Zimmerwald Observatory(895 m)near the city of Bern,achieving net-rates of up to 0.94 Tbit/s.With this scenario a satellite-ground feeder link is mimicked under turbulent conditions.Despite adverse conditions high throughput was achieved by employing a full adaptive optics system to correct the distorted wavefront of the channel and by using polarization-multiplexed high-order complex modulation formats.It was found that adaptive optics does not distort the reception of coherent modulation formats.Also,we introduce constellation modulation–a new four-dimensional BPSK(4D-BPSK)modulation format as a technique to transmit high data rates under lowest SNR.This way we show 53 km FSO transmission of 13.3 Gbit/s and 210 Gbit/s with as little as 4.3 and 7.8 photons per bit,respectively,at a bit-error ratio of 1∙10−3.The experiments show that advanced coherent modulation coding in combination with full adaptive optical filtering are proper means to make next-generation Tbit/s satellite communications practical.Yannik Horst Bertold Ian Bitachon Laurenz Kulmer Jannik Brun Tobias Blatter Jean-Marc Conan Aurélie Montmerle-Bonnefois Joseph Montri Béatrice Sorrente Caroline B.Lim Nicolas Védrenne Daniel Matter Loann Pommarel Benedikt Baeuerle Juerg Leuthold 2023Light(Science & Applications)2023,12,9:0

11How the laser beam size conditions the temporal contrast in pulse stretchers of chirped-pulse amplification lasers显示文摘In this work,we propose and verify experimentally a model that describes the concomitant influence of the beam size and optical roughness on the temporal contrast of optical pulses passing through a pulse stretcher in chirped-pulse amplification laser systems.We develop an analytical model that is capable of predicting the rising edge caused by the reflection from an optical element in a pulse stretcher,based on the power spectral density of the surface and the spatial beam profile on the surface.In an experimental campaign,we characterize the temporal contrast of a laser pulse that passed through either a folded or an unfolded stretcher design and compare these results with the analytical model.By varying the beam size for both setups,we verify that optical elements in the near-and the far-field act opposed to each with respect to the temporal contrast and that the rising edge caused by a surface benefits from a larger spatial beam size on that surface.Simon Roeder Yannik Zobus Christian Brabetz Vincent Bagnoud 2022High Power Laser Science and Engineering2022,10,6:0
