1The pH of Cement-based Materials:A Review显示文摘Cement-based materials (CBMs),such as paste,mortar and concrete,are highly alkaline with an initial high pH of approximately 12.0 to 13.8.CBMs have a high pH due to the existing oxide mineral portlandite and alkali metal contents in Portland cement.The high pH of concrete provides excellent protection and reinforces the steel bars against corrosion.The pH of concrete does not remain constant due to ageing and other defect-causing factors,such as chloride ingress,alkali leaching,carbonation,corrosion,acid attack,moisture and biodegradation process.Reducing the concrete pH has negative impact on the strength,durability and service life of concrete buildings.However,the high pH of concrete may also cause concrete structure deterioration,such as alkali silica reaction,porosity and moisture related damages in concrete structures.The pH of CBMs can be influenced by high temperatures.For instance,the extremely high volume (85%-100%) of slag-blended cement pastes shows considerable pH reduction from 12.80 to 11.34 at 800 ℃.As many concrete structure deterioration are related to concrete pH,using an accurate and reliable method to measure pH and analyse the durability of reinforced concrete structure based on pH values is extremely important.This study is a comprehensive review of the pH of CBM in terms of measurement,limitations and varying values for different CBM types.Sumra Yousuf Payam Shafigh Zainah Ibrahim 2020Journal of Wuhan University of Technology(Materials Science)2020,35,5:3
2Echovirus serotypes circulating in Malaysia from 2002 to 2013显示文摘Objective:To identify the circulating serotypes of human echovinis in Malaysia from 2002 in 2013.Methods:A toial of 31 retrospective samples from non-polio acute flacid paralysis,hand-food-and-mouth disease,viral meningitis and enterovirus cases were subjected to amplification of partial VPI gene by RT-PCR.Results:Sequencing and phylogeneiic analysis of the partial sequences identified presence of human echovinis and human coxsackie viruses.It was found that echovinis 11 was the commonly circulating serotype followed by echovinis6.echovinis 7.echovinis 3.echovinis 9.echovinis 30 and echovinis I in decreasing order.Additionally two types of human coxsackie virus isolates were detected which were coxsackie A24 and B3.Condusions:From the findings,there is a possibility that echovinis 11 is the predominant serotype among Malaysian patients with echovinis infection.However,a larger sample size will yield a more confident result to support this evidence.____________________Jeyanthi Suppiah TS Saraswathy Subramaniam Amry Khursany Ismail Apandi Yusof Zainah Sa'at 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,3:2

7Progress in rubella control initiated through measles elimination strategies:the Malaysian experience显示文摘Objective:To analyse the laboratory surveillance data from 2004 till 2008 to examine the changing trend of rubella cases in Malaysia.Methods:Samples for this study were either received through the measles case based surveillance program or were hospital cases received for sero-diagnosis of congenital rubella syndrome(CRS). Specific rubella IgM antibody test was carried out on all samples that were negative for measles IgM antibody and for sero-diagnosis of CRS.Results:Through the surveillance program for measles,the samples received for rubella had increased five fold from 365 in 2004 to 1 522 in 2007.Positive rubella cases detected had also increased from 4.1%in 2004 to 33.2%in 2007.The age group 11 to 20 years accounted for 73.6%of rubella cases confirmed in 2008,with a higher incidence among males than females.Positive rubella IgM was detected in 25 CRS cases during the 6 year period between January 2003 and December 2008.Conclusion:The measles elimination program had contributed to significant progress in the control of rubella,with the majority of rubella cases detected through this strategy.Since rubella is not notifiable in Malaysia,this integrated measles and rubella surveillance should be continued.However,to enhance the progress,specific targets should also be established in the national program to eliminate rubella and CRS.Saraswathy TS Az-Ulhusna A Nor Zahrin H Nurhasmimi Hassan Zainah S Rohani J 2009Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2009,2,6:0
