| 1 | Basic properties of sintering dust from iron and steel plant and potassium recovery显示文摘With the production of crude steel,China produces several million tons of sintering dusts which contain a great deal of valuable metals such as,K,Na,Zn,Pb.If discharged directly without adequate treatment,these elements can lead to adverse effects on the environment.Therefore,it is very necessary to determine how to separate these elements from the dust before discharge.Several physical and chemical detection methods were used to study the basic properties of sintering dust.At the same time,preliminary experiments on the recovery of the potassium resources from the sintering dust were carried out.The mean particle size of the electrostatic precipitator(ESP) dust determined by a laser granulometer was 41.468 μm.Multi-point BET and single-point BET analysis showed that the surface area of the ESP dust was 2.697 m2 /g.XRD measurements detected the following phases in the ESP dust:Fe2O3,Fe3O4,KCl and NaCl,and Fe2O3,Fe3O4 and SiO2 in the water-washed dust.SEM-EDS results proved that in the ESP dust,K mostly existed in the form of KCl particles without being coated.Leaching experiments showed that the KCl in the ESP dust could be separated and recovered by water leaching and fractional crystallization.Through the recovery experiments,the yield of K-Na vaporized crystalline salt was 18.56%,in which the mass fractions of KCl,NaCl,CaSO4 and K2SO4 were about 61.03%,13.58%,14.03% and 9.97%,respectively.This process is technically viable and considerable in economic benefit.There was almost no secondary pollution produced in the whole recovery process. | Guang Zhan Zhancheng Guo | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,6: | 23 |

| 3 | Long-term bone and lung consequences associated with hospital-acquired severe acute respiratory syndrome:a 15-year follow-up from a prospective cohort study显示文摘The most severe sequelae after rehabilitation from SARS are femoral head necrosis and pulmonary fibrosis. We performed a 15-year follow-up on the lung and bone conditions of SARS patients. We evaluated the recovery from lung damage and femoral head necrosis in an observational cohort study of SARS patients using pulmonary CT scans, hip joint MRI examinations, pulmonary function tests and hip joint function questionnaires. Eighty medical staff contracted SARS in 2003. Two patients died of SARS, and78 were enrolled in this study from August 2003 to March 2018. Seventy-one patients completed the 15-year follow-up. The percentage of pulmonary lesions on CT scans diminished from 2003(9.40 ± 7.83)% to 2004(3.20 ± 4.78)%(P < 0.001) and remained stable thereafter until 2018(4.60 ± 6.37)%. Between 2006 and 2018, the proportion of patients with interstitial changes who had improved pulmonary function was lower than that of patients without lesions, as demonstrated by the one-second ratio(FEV1/FVC%, t = 2.21, P = 0.04) and mid-flow of maximum expiration(FEF25%–75%, t = 2.76, P = 0.01). The volume of femoral head necrosis decreased significantly from 2003(38.83 ± 21.01)% to 2005(30.38 ± 20.23)%(P = 0.000 2), then declined slowly from 2005 to 2013(28.99 ± 20.59)% and plateaued until 2018(25.52 ± 15.51)%. Pulmonary interstitial damage and functional decline caused by SARS mostly recovered, with a greater extent of recovery within 2 years after rehabilitation. | 5 | NUMERICAL SIMULATION FOR A PROCESS ANALYSIS OF A COKE OVEN显示文摘A computational fluid dynamic model is established for a coking process analysis of a coke oven using PHOENICS CFD package. The model simultaneously calculates the transient composition, temperatures of the gas and the solid phases, velocity of the gas phase and porosity and density of the semi-coke phase. Numerical simulation is illustrated in predicting the evolution of volatile gases, gas flow paths, profiles of density, porosity of the coke oven charge,profiles of temperatures of the coke oven gas and the semi-coke bed. On the basis of above modeling, the flow of coke oven gas (COG) blown from the bottom of the coke oven into the porous semi-coke bed is simulated to reveal whether or not and when the blown COG can uniformly flow through the porous semi-coke bed for the purpose of desulfurizing the semi-coke by recycling the COG. | 9 | Clinical status and its associated early warning per emerging infectious respiratory disease in China显示文摘In the past ten years,we had experienced a series of emerging severe acute respiratory infections (SARI).Some of them became serious public health emergent events,such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and novel A/H7N9 avian influenza.Tracing back to 2003,SARS originated from Guangdong province and spread to 29 countries and regions until it was completely controlled.Out of 8 096 probable SARS cases world-wide,774 patients died;the mortality was 9.6%.1 There were 5 327 patients with SARS in China,and 1 002 (19%) of them were health care workers (HCW).Nearly all the HCW got hospital acquired infection since there was no efficient preventive and protective system.However,ten years later,novel A/ H7N9 avian influenza,another emerging infectious disease,was identified in Shanghai City.In the more than two years,there have been a total of 435 cases with the novel A/H7N9 infection,and 166 patients died.The mortality is 38.2%. | Tian Guizhen Gao Zhancheng | 2014 | Chinese Medical Journal2014,,17: | 3 |
| 10 | Preparation of steel slag porous sound-absorbing material using coal powder as pore former显示文摘The aim of the study was to prepare a porous sound-absorbing material using steel slag and fly ash as the main raw material, with coal powder and sodium silicate used as a pore former and binder respectively. The influence of the experimental conditions such as the ratio of fly ash, sintering temperature, sintering time, and porosity regulation on the performance of the porous sound-absorbing material was investigated. The results showed that the specimens prepared by this method had high sound absorption performance and good mechanical properties, and the noise reduction coefficient and compressive strength could reach 0.50 and 6.5 MPa, respectively. The compressive strength increased when the dosage of fly ash and sintering temperature were raised. The noise reduction coefficient decreased with increasing ratio of fly ash and reducing pore former, and first increased and then decreased with the increase of sintering temperature and time. | 16 | Human Pharyngeal Microbiome May Play A Protective Role in Respiratory Tract Infections显示文摘The human pharyngeal microbiome, which resides at the juncture of digestive and respiratory tracts, may have an active role in the prevention of respiratory tract infections, similar to the actions of the intestinal microbiome against enteric infections. Recent studies have demonstrated that the pharyngeal microbiome comprises an abundance of bacterial species that interacts with the local epithelial and immune cells, and together, they form a unique micro-ecological system.Most of the microbial species in microbiomes are obligate symbionts constantly adapting to their unique surroundings. Indigenous commensal species are capable of both maintaining dominance and evoking host immune responses to eliminate invading species. Temporary damage to the pharyngeal microbiome due to the impaired local epithelia is also considered an important predisposing risk factor for infections. Therefore, reinforcement of microbiome homeostasis to prevent invasion of infection-prone species would provide a novel treatment strategy in addition to antibiotic treatment and vaccination.
