1SURFACE STRESS EFFECT IN MECHANICS OF NANOSTRUCTURED MATERIALS显示文摘This review article summarizes the advances in the surface stress effect in mechanics of nanostructured elements,including nanoparticles,nanowires,nanobeams,and nanofilms,and heterogeneous materials containing nanoscale inhomogeneities.It begins with the fundamental formulations of surface mechanics of solids,including the definition of surface stress as a surface excess quantity,the surface constitutive relations,and the surface equilibrium equations.Then,it depicts some theoretical and experimental studies of the mechanical properties of nanostructured elements,as well as the static and dynamic behaviour of cantilever sensors caused by the surface stress which is influenced by adsorption.Afterwards,the article gives a summary of the analytical elasto-static and dynamic solutions of a single as well as multiple inhomogeneities embedded in a matrix with the interface stress prevailing.The effect of surface elasticity on the diffraction of elastic waves is elucidated.Due to the difficulties in the analytical solution of inhomogeneities of complex shapes and configurations,finite element approaches have been developed for heterogeneous materials with the surface stress.Surface stress and surface energy are inherently related to crack propagation and the stress field in the vicinity of crack tips.The solutions of crack problems taking into account surface stress effects are also included.Predicting the effective elastic and plastic responses of heterogeneous materials while taking into account surface and interface stresses has received much attention.The advances in this topic are inevitably delineated.Mechanics of rough surfaces appears to deserve special attention due to its theoretical and practical implications.Some most recent work is reviewed.Finally,some challenges are pointed out.They include the characterization of surfaces and interfaces of real nanomaterials,experimental measurements and verification of mechanical parameters of complex surfaces,and the effects of the physical and chemical processes on the surface properties,etc.Jianxiang Wang Zhuping Huang Huiling Duan Shouwen Yu Xiqiao Feng Gangfeng Wang Weixu Zhang Tiejun Wang 2011Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2011,24,1:11
2Hydrogen sulfide promotes flowering in heading Chinese cabbage by S-sulfhydration of BraFLCs显示文摘Heading Chinese cabbage(Brassica rapa L.syn.B.campestris L.ssp.chinensis Makino var.pekinensis(Rupr.)J.Cao et Sh.Cao)is a cruciferous Brassica vegetable that has a triplicate genome,owing to an ancient genome duplication event.It is unclear whether the duplicated homologs have conserved or diversi fied functions.Hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S)is a plant gasotransmitter that plays important physiological roles in growth,development,and responses to environmental stresses.The modification of cysteines through S-sulfhydration is an important mechanism of H_(2)S,which regulates protein functions.H?S promotes flowering in Arabidopsis and heading Chinese cabbage.Here we investigated the molecular mechanisms of H_(2)S used to promote flowering in the latter.Four,five,and four BraFLC,BraSOC I,and BraFT homologs were identi fi ed in heading Chinese cabbage.Different BraFLC proteins were bound to different CArG boxes in the promoter regions of the BraSOC I and BraFT homologs,producing different binding patterns.Thus,there may be functionally diverse BraFLC homologs in heading Chinese cabbage.Exogenous H_(2)S at 100μmol L^(-1) significantly promoted flowering by compensating for insuf fi cient vernalization.BraFLC 1 and BraFLC_(3) underwent S-sulfhydration by H_(2)S,after which their abilities to bind most BraSOC I or BraFT promoter probes weakened or even disappeared.These changes in binding ability were consistent with the expression pattern of the BraFT and BraSOC I homologs in seedlings treated with H_(2)S.These results indicated that H_(2)S signaling regulates flowering time.In summary,H_(2)S signaling promoted plant flowering by weakening or eliminating the binding abilities of BraFLCs to downstream promoters through S-sulfhydration.Xiaoli Ma Liping Zhang Zhuoya Pei Linlin Zhang Zhiqiang Liu Danmei Liu Xuefeng Hao Zhuping Jin Yanxi Pei 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:6
3A new interpretation of internal-variable theory in finite thermo-viscoelasticity显示文摘Based on the non-equilibrium thermodynamics,an internal-variable theory in thermo-viscoelasticity at finite deformation was proposed by Huang in 1999.In this theory,a modified stretch of the molecular chain was introduced,and hence the molecular network model in rubber elasticity was extended to take into account the viscous and thermal effects of the material.The viscous dissipation of the material can then be described by means of these internal variables,which appear in the expression of the modified stretch.In order to give a clearer explanation on the physical implication of the internal variables,a connection between the internal-variable theory and theoretical formulation based on the multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient in existing literature is presented in this paper,which allows the above internal-variable theory to be more systematic.HUANG ZhuPing DUI GuanSuo YANG ShengYou 2013Science China Chemistry2013,56,3:3
4Impact of time lags on diurnal estimates of canopy transpiration and canopy conductance from sap-flow measurements of Populus cathayana in the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Recently, canopy transpiration(Ec) has been often estimated by xylem sap-flow measurements. However, there is a significant time lag between sap flow measured at the base of the stem and canopy transpiration due to the capacitive exchange between the transpiration stream and stem water storage. Significant errors will be introduced in canopy conductance(gc) and canopy transpiration estimation if the time lag is neglected. In this study, a cross-correlation analysis was used to quantify the time lag, and the sap flowbased transpiration was measured to parameterize Jarvistype models of gcand thus to simulate Ecof Populus cathayana using the Penman–Monteith equation. The results indicate that solar radiation(Rs) and vapor pressure deficit(VPD) are not fully coincident with sap flow and have an obvious lag effect; the sap flow lags behind Rsand precedes VPD, and there is a 1-h time shift between Ecand sap flow in the 30-min interval data set. A parameterized Jarvis-type gc model is suitable to predict P. cathayana transpiration and explains more than 80% of the variation observed in gc, and the relative error was less than 25%, which shows a preferable simulation effect. The root mean square error(RMSEs)between the predicted and measured Ecwere 1.91 9 10-3(with the time lag) and 3.12 9 10-3cm h-1(without the time lag). 20EFFECTIVE SPECIFIC HEATS OF MULTI-PHASE THERMOELASTIC COMPOSITES显示文摘This paper studies the effective properties of multi-phase thermoelastic composites. Based on the Helmholtz free energy and the Gibbs free energy of individual phases, the effective elastic tensor, thermal-expansion tensor, and specific heats of the multi-phase composites are derived by means of the volume average of free-energies of these phases. Particular emphasis is placed on the derivation of new analytical expressions of effective specific heats at constant-strain and constant-stress situations, in which a modified Eshelby's micromechanics theory is developed and the interaction between inclusions is considered.
