| 2 | Liver histology according to the presence of metabolic syndrome in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease cases显示文摘AIM:To investigate the histologic features of the liver in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) cases according to the presence of metabolic syndrome or its individual components. METHODS:We enrolled 81 patients (40 male,41 fe-male) who were diagnosed with fatty liver by ultraso-nographic scan and fulfi lled the inclusion criteria. First anamnesis,anthropometric,clinical,laboratory and imaging features of all participants were recorded and then liver biopsy was performed after gaining consent from patients. Diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was dependent on patients having 3 or more out of 5 risk criteria defined by the WHO. Biopsy specimens were assessed according to Brunt et al's classification. RESULTS:Sixty-nine of the 81 patients had nonalco-holic steatohepatitis (NASH),11 had simple fatty liver and 1 had cirrhosis according to histologic evaluation. Comparisons were made between two groups of NASH patients,those with and without metabolic syndrome. We did not detect statistically significant differences in liver histology between NASH patients with and wit-hout metabolic syndrome. | 5 | A Novel Method to Improve the Electrochemical Performance of LiMn_2O_4 Cathode Active Material by CaCO_3 Surface Coating显示文摘Spinel LiMn2O4 was synthesized by glycine-nitrate method and coated with CaCO3 in order to enhance the electrochemical performance at room temperature (250C) and 550C. The uncoated and CaCO3-coated LiMn2O4 materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical tests. XRD and SEM results indicated that CaCO3 particles encapsulated the surface of the LiMn2O4 without causing any structural change. The charge-discharge tests showed that the specific discharge capacity fade of pristine electrode at 25 and 550C were 25.5% and 52%, respectively. However, surface modified cathode shows 7.4% and 29.5% loss compared to initial specific discharge capacity at 70th cycle for 25 and 550C, respectively. | 6 | Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis with normal aminotransferase values显示文摘AIM:To investigate the aspects of liver histology in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)who had normal aminotransferase levels. METHODS:Thirty-four patients diagnosed with liver steatosis by ultrasonographic examination participated in the study.We compared all nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and NASH cases,according to aminotransferase level,aspartate aminotransferase (AST)/alanine aminotransferase(ALT)ratio and presence of metabolic syndrome. RESULTS:Sixteen of 25 patients with high aminotransferase levels were diagnosed with NASH and nine with simple fatty liver according to liver histology. Among the nine patients with normal aminotransferase levels,seven had NASH and two had simple fatty liver. The patients with normal and high liver enzyme levels had almost the same prevalence of NASH and metabolic syndrome.Liver histology did not reveal any difference according to aminotransferase levels and AST/ALT ratio. CONCLUSION:Aminotransferase levels and AST/ALT ratio do not seem to be reliable predictors for NASH. | 9 | Effects of geoclimatic factors on the variability in Pinus pinea cone, seed, and seedling traits in Turkey native habitats显示文摘Background:Stone pine(Pinus pinea L.)is harvested for its edible kernels.It is an important forest tree species,and also plays an important role in afforestation.Successful afforestation activities strongly depend on the quality of seeds and seedlings.Five eastern native populations of stone pine were analyzed,in terms of their geographical and climatic parameters,in order to identify their cone,seed,pine nut,and seedling traits.With this regard,we aimed to contribute to the reforestation,yield,and breeding of this species.Results:All native populations occur in the sub-humid bioclimatic zone,according to Emberger’s bioclimatic classification,ranging 74.7-63.2 of Emberger’s Q Index value(Q),which synthesizes humidity and temperature,with lower values indicating more arid conditions.With regard to geographical factors,altitude was found to have the greatest effect on cone diameter and seed weight,while there was a weak correlation of cone,seed,and pine nut dimension with longitude and latitude.In terms of climatic factors,Q and mean of the maximum temperature of June,July,and August(ME)were found to be the main drivers behind significant effects in cone,seed,and pine nut morphometric traits.The most negative effect on seed number cone−1(r:−0.897),pine nut number cone−1(r:−0.923),pine nut yield(r:−0.903),and pine nut weight(r:−0.878)was Q,whereas cone diameter,seed length,and seed weight were positively correlated with the ME(r:0.939,r:0.889,and r:0.866,respectively).Cone and seed diameter and seed weight increased with decreasing summer drought index(r:−0.806,r:−0.846,and r:−0.866,respectively).Rainfall in the June of the third year prior to harvest time(RJ)had a negative effect on the percentage of sound seeds per cone.Annual rainfall in the third year prior to harvest time(AR)significantly affected pine nut weight(r:0.889),although rainfall during summer had a negative effect.The empty seed ratio of the different populations ranged from 20 to 68%,while considering all populations,the empty seed ratio was 46%.Conclusions:The study suggests that the Q Index and ME should be taken into account to determine cone to pine nut yield.With this regard,plantations of stone pine should be established on sub-humid areas and Q values should not exceed 75. | Safa Balekoglu Servet Caliskan Hüseyin Dirik | 2020 | Ecological Processes2020,9,1: | 4 |
| 10 | Synthesis and Electrochemical Properties of Carbon-Mixed LiEr_(0.02)Fe_(0.98)PO_4 Cathode Material for Lithium-ion Batteries显示文摘LiEr0.02Fe0.98PO4/C composite cathode was synthesized by a simple solution method with polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the reductive agent and carbon source. The effect of erbium doping on the electrochemical behavior of LiFePO4 was studied in this paper. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy and the electrochemical properties were investigated by the charge-discharge test. An initial discharge capacity of 149 mAh·g-1 was achieved for the LiEr0.02Fe0.98PO4/C composite cathode with a rate of 0.1 C. The electronic conductivity of Er doped LiFePO4/C was measured as 10-2 S·cm-1. The results indicated that erbium doping did not destroy the lattice structure of LiFePO4 and enlarge the lattice volume. | 11 | Inhibitory effects of regorafenib, a multiple tyrosine kinase inhibitor, on corneal neovascularization显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the inhibitory effects of regorafenib(BAY 73-4506),a multikinase inhibitor,on corneal neovascularization(NV).METHODS:Thirty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 250-300 g,were used.Corneal NV was induced by NaOH in the left eyes of each rat.Following the establishment of alkali burn,the animals were randomized into five groups according to topical treatment.Group 1(n=6)received 0.9%NaCl,Group 2(n=6)received dimethyl sulfoxide,Group 3(n=6)received regorafenib 1 mg/mL,Group 4(n=6)received bevacizumab 5 mg/mL and Group 5(n=6)received 0.1%dexamethasone phosphate.On the 7d,the corneal surface covered with neovascular vessels was measured on photographs as the percentage of the cornea's total area using computer-imaging analysis.The corneas obtained from rats were semiquantitatively evaluated for caspase-3 and vascular endothelial growth factor by immunostaining.RESULTS:A statistically significant difference in the percent area of corneal NV was found among the groups(P<0.001).Although the Group 5 had the smallest percent area of corneal NV,there was no difference among Groups 3,4 and 5(P>0.005).There was a statistically significant difference among the groups in apoptotic cell density(P=0.002).The staining intensity of vascular endothelial growth factor in the epithelial and endothelial layers of cornea was significantly different among the groups(P<0.05).The staining intensity of epithelial and endothelial vascular endothelial growth factor was significantly weaker in Groups 3,4 and 5 thanin Groups 1 and 2.CONCLUSION:Topical administration of regorafenib 1mg/mL is partly effective for preventing alkali-induced corneal NV in rats. | Halil Ibrahim Onder Mesut Erdurmus Yasin Yücel Bucak Hüseyin Simavli Murat Oktay Ahmet Sahap Kukner | 2014 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014,7,2: | 4 |

| 20 | Evaluation of mixed mode-Ⅰ/Ⅱ criteria for fatigue crack propagation using experiments and modeling显示文摘In this study, in-plane mixed mode-Ⅰ/Ⅱ fatigue crack growth simulations and experiments are performed for the Al 7075-T651 aluminum alloy which is widely used in the aerospace industry. Tests are carried out under different mode mixity ratios to evaluate the applicability of a fracture criterion developed in a previous study to mixed mode-Ⅰ/Ⅱ fatigue crack growth tests.Results obtained from the analyses and experiments are compared with existing and developed criteria in terms of crack growth lives. Compact Tension Shear(CTS) specimens, which enable mixed mode loading with loading devices under different loading angles, are used in the simulations and experiments. In an effort to model and simulate the actual conditions in the experiments, crack surfaces of fractured specimens are scanned, crack paths are modeled exactly, and contacts are defined between the contact surfaces of a specimen and the loading device for each crack propagation step in the analyses.
