An Overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Heterogeneity and Treatment Options显示文摘Since the documented observations of Kanner in1943, there has been great debate about the diagnoses, the sub-types, and the diagnostic threshold that relates to what is now known as autism spectrum disorder(ASD).Re?ecting this complicated history, there has been continual re?nement from DSM-III with ‘Infantile Autism' to the current DSM-V diagnosis. The disorder is now widely accepted as a complex, pervasive, heterogeneous condition with multiple etiologies, sub-types, and developmental trajectories. Diagnosis remains based on observation of atypical behaviors, with criteria of persistent de?cits in social communication and restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior. This review provides a broad overview of the history, prevalence, etiology, clinical presentation, and heterogeneity of ASD. Factors contributing to heterogeneity, including genetic variability, comorbidity, and gender are reviewed. We then explore current evidencebased pharmacological and behavioral treatments for ASD and highlight the complexities of conducting clinical trials that evaluate therapeutic ef?cacy in ASD populations. Finally, we discuss the potential of a new wave of research examining objective biomarkers to facilitate the evaluation of sub-typing, diagnosis, and treatment response in ASD. | Anne Masi Marilena M.De Mayo Nicholas Glozier Adam J.Guastella | 2017 | Neuroscience Bulletin2017,33,2: | 33
1982-2013年中国植被NDVI空间异质性的气候影响(英文)显示文摘Climate change is a major driver of vegetation activity, and thus their complex processes become a frontier and difficulty in global change research. To understand this relationship between climate change and vegetation activity, the spatial distribution and dynamic characteristics of the response of NDVI to climate change were investigated by the geographically weighted regression(GWR) model during 1982 to 2013 in China. This model was run based on the combined datasets of satellite vegetation index(NDVI) and climate observation(temperature and moisture) from meteorological stations nationwide. The results showed that the spatial non-stationary relationship between NDVI and surface temperature has appeared in China: the significant negative temperature-vegetation relationship was located in Northeast, Northwest and Southeast China, while the positive correlation was more concentrated from southwest to northeast. By comparing the normalized regression coefficients from GWR model for different climate factors, it presented the regions with moisture dominants for NDVI were in North China and the Tibetan Plateau, and the areas of temperature dominants were distributed in East, Central and Southwest China, where the annual mean maximum temperature accounted for the largest areas. In addition, regression coefficients from GWR model between NDVI dynamics and climate variability indicated that the higher warming rate could result in the weakened vegetation activity through some mechanisms such as enhanced drought, while the moisture variability could mediate the hydrothermal conditions for the variation of vegetation activity. When the increasing rate of photosynthesis exceeded that of respiration, the positive correlation between vegetation dynamics and climate variability was reflected. However, the continuous and dynamic process of vegetation activity response to climate change will be determined by spatially heterogeneous conditions in climate change and vegetation cover. Furthermore, the dynamic description of climate-induced vegetation activity from its rise to decline in different regions is expected to provide a scientific basis for initiating ecosystem-based adaptation strategies in response to global climate change. | 高江波 焦珂伟 吴绍洪 | 2019 | Journal of Geographical Sciences2019,29,10: | 21
Gene heterogeneity of hepatitis B virus isolates from patients with severe hepatitis B显示文摘BACKGROUND: The pathogenesis of severe hepatitis B remains unknown. Reports have indicated that hepatitis B virus (HBV) mutations are important factors in the pathogenesis of this disease. This study was to investigate the genetic heterogeneity of HBV strains from serum samples of patients with fulminant hepatitis B. METHODS: Full-length HBV genomes from 4 patients with severe hepatitis B were cloned and sequenced to observe mutations in every open reading-frame ( ORF). Serum samples of another 25 patients with severe hepatitis B, 30 patients with chronic hepatitis B, and 25 HBV carriers were collected for sequencing and comparison of mutations in preS2, preC and core promoter regions. RESULTS: Of 4 HBV full-length genome sequences, 3 had a G to A mutation at nucleotide A1896 in the preC region and 1 had double mutations of T1762-A1764 in the core promoter region. The 4 sequences showed mutations in the known B or T cell epitopes of the preS2 and C regions. For the other 3 groups, more mutations were seen in the preS2 region in the HBV isolates from the patients with severe hepatitis B than those from the patients with chronic hepatitis B and HBV carriers (P <0.01). There was a significant difference of mutations in the T cell epitope region of preS2 between the patients with severe hepatitis B and those with chronic hepatitis B or HBV carriers (P <0.01). In the preC and core promoter regions, the mutation frequencies of T1653 and C1753 were 48.0% and 24.0% respectively in the patients with severe hepatitis B, but none of these mutations were observed in the patients with chronic hepatitis B group or HBV carriers (P <0.01). The mutation frequency of T1762-A1764 was 76.0% in the patients with severe hepatitis B, 40.0% in the patients with chronic hepatitis B (P <0. 01) , and 16. 0% in the HBV carriers ( P < 0. 01). There was a significant difference in A1896 mutation between the patients with severe hepatitis B and the patients with chronic hepatitis B (P < 0. 05 ) or the HBV carriers (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Our observations suggest that the accumulation and persistence of high frequency mutations or complex mutations may be associated with the development and deterioration of HBV infection. | Wei Wu, Yu Chen, Bing Ruan and Lan-Juan Li Hangzhou, China Department of Infectious Diseases, First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Key Laboratory of Infectious Diseases of Health Ministry of China, Hangzhou 310003, China | 2005 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2005,4,4: | 20
Abnormal expression of hepatoma- derived γ-glutamyltransferase subtyping and its early alteration for carcinogenesis of hepatocytes显示文摘BACKGROUND: Although the hepatoma-specific band of gamma-glutamyltransferase ( GGT ) is a highly sensitive marker in diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, the kine- tic expression and the early alterations of GGT in the deve- lopment of hepatoma remain unclear. In this study, we in- vestigated the expression and the alterations of GGT multi- ple molecular forms in hepatotumorigenesis. METHODS: The expression of GGT in a chemically in- duced hepatocarcinogenesis model was examined by giving 0. 05% of 2-fluoenylacetamide in diet for 12 weeks. The ex- pression levels of total RNA and GGT, and the changes of liver pathology, GGT multiple molecular forms and sugar- chain heterogeneity were investigated at the different stages of rat hepatoma development. RESULTS: Pathological examination and biochemical ana- lysis found that liver GGT was over-expressed and secreted into blood during canceration. Serum total GGT and liver GGT specific activities (IU/g) including soluble and mem- brane-combined GGT were significantly higher (P <0.05) in experimental groups than those in control group, respec- tively. A highly positive correlation was found between to- tal GGT activities and total RNA levels (r =0.90, P <0.05) of the liver. Both were higher six weeks later than before. Con A-non-reactive-GGT was increased consistantly dur- ing the development of rat hepatoma. GGT multiple mo- lecular forms in the liver and sera of experimental rats showed that fetal liver-type GGT bands were associated with the development of hepatoma. CONCLUSIONS: Fetal liver-type GGT in sera and the liver of rats is closely related to hepatotumorigenesis. It can be used as a sensitive enzymatic marker for the early diagnosis of liver cancer. | Deng-Fu Yao, Zhi-Zhen Dong, Deng-Bing Yao, Xin-Hua Wu, Wei Wu, Li-Wei Qiu, Hong-Mei Wang and Xian-Yong Meng Nantong, China Research Center of Clinical Molecular Biology, Affilia- ted Hospital of Nantong University, Nantong 226001 , China Insti- tute of Neuroscicnces, Nantong University, Nantong 226001 , China | 2004 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2004,3,4: | 17
Adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal/stem cells: An update on their phenotype in vivo and in vitro显示文摘Adipose tissue is a rich, ubiquitous and easily acces-sible source for multipotent stromal/stem cells and has, therefore, several advantages compared to other sourc-es of mesenchymal stromal/stem cells. Several studies have tried to identify the origin of the stromal/stem cell population within adipose tissue in situ. This is a complicated attempt because no marker has currently been described which unambiguously identifies native adipose-derived stromal/stem cells(ASCs). Isolated and cultured ASCs are a non-uniform preparation consisting of several subsets of stem and precursor cells. Cultured ASCs are characterized by their expression of a panel of markers(and the absence of others), whereas their in vitro phenotype is dynamic. Some markers were ex-pressed de novo during culture, the expression of some markers is lost. For a long time, CD34 expression was solely used to characterize haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, but now it has become evident that it is also a potential marker to identify an ASC subpopula-tion in situ and after a short culture time. Nevertheless, long-term cultured ASCs do not express CD34, perhaps due to the artificial environment. This review gives an update of the recently published data on the origin and phenotype of ASCs both in vivo and in vitro. In addition, the composition of ASCs(or their subpopula-tions) seems to vary between different laboratories andpreparations. This heterogeneity of ASC preparationsmay result from different reasons. One of the main problems in comparing results from different laborato-ries is the lack of a standardized isolation and culture protocol for ASCs. Since many aspects of ASCs, suchas the differential potential or the current use in clinical trials, are fully described in other recent reviews, this review further updates the more basic research issues concerning ASCs' subpopulations, heterogeneity andculture standardization. | Patrick C Baer | 2014 | World Journal of Stem Cells2014,6,3: | 16
Numerical modeling of secondary migration and its applications to Chang-6 Member of Yanchang Formation (Upper Triassic), Longdong area, Ordos Basin, China显示文摘Mathematic modeling, established on the basis of physical experiments, is becoming an increasingly important tool in oil and gas migration studies. This technique is based on the observation that hydrocarbon migration tends to take relative narrow pathways. A mathematical model of hydrocarbon migration and accumulation is constructed using the percolation theory. It is then calibrated using physical experimental results, and is tested under a variety of conditions, to understand the applicability of the model in different migration cases. Through modeling, dynamic conditions of large-scale migration pathways within homogeneous formations can be evaluated. Basin-scale hydrocarbon migration pathways and their characteristics are analyzed during the model application to the Chang-8 Member of the Triassic Yanchang Formation in Longdong area of Ordos Basin. In heterogeneous formations, spatial changes in fluid potential determine the direction of secondary migration, and heterogeneity controls the characteristics and geometry of secondary migration pathways. | LUO XiaoRong YU Jian ZHANG LiuPing YANG Yang CHEN RuiYin CHEN ZhanKun ZHOU Bo | 2007 | Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,z2: | 13
Trace-element of Tuoyun cli-nopyroxene:Implication for the deep processes of litho-spheric mantle beneath the southwest Tianshan,West China显示文摘Based on the LAM-ICPMS analytic results on the trace elements of clinopyroxenes in peridotitic xenoliths occurring in early-Cretaceous basalts from western Xinjiang, the properties and the deep processes, including partial melting and mantle metasomatism, of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle beneath the Tuoyun Basin are analyzed. In the northern edge of the Tarim Basin (southwest Tian-shan), the Mesozoic subcontinental lithosphere which has experienced the effect of partial melting (<10%) and intricate mantle metasomatism is characterized by Phanerozoic ’ocean-type’ mantle. The superposed influence of SiO2-un-saturated silicate melt and carbonate melt probably results in the metasomatic medium which resembles the hydrous silicated carbonate melt in some aspects. By comparing Tuoyun mantle with Cenozoic main mantle beneath eastern China, the properties are similar, while the former shows finer grain and higher diopside content of the peridotites and more conspicuous modal metasomatism. | ZHENG Jianping LU Fengxiang S.Y.O’Reilly LUO Zhaohua | 2001 | Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,14: | 13
Plant Immune Mechanisms:From Reductionistic to Holistic Points of View显示文摘After three decades of the amazing progress made on molecular studies of plant-microbe interactions(MPMI),we have begun to ask ourselves'what are the major questions still remaining?'as if the puzzle has only a few pieces missing.Such an exercise has ultimately led to the realization that we still have many more questions than answers. Therefore,it would be an impossible task for us to project a coherent'big picture'of the MPMI field in a single review.Instead,we provide our opinions on where we would like to go in our research as an invitation to the community to join us in this exploration of new MPMI frontiers. | Jie Zhang Gitta Coaker Jian-Min Zhou Xinnian Dong | 2020 | Molecular Plant2020,13,10: | 13
Are humic substances soil microbial residues or unique synthesized compounds?A perspective on their distinctiveness显示文摘Humic substances(HS),which are defined as a series of highly acidic, relatively high-molecular-weight,and yellow to black colored substances formed during the decay and transformation of plant and microbial remains, ubiquitously occur in nature.Humic substances represent the largest stable organic carbon pool in terrestrial environments and are the central characteristic of the soil. However, the validity of the HS concept and the justification of their extraction procedure have been recently debated. Here,we argue that the traditional humic paradigm is still relevant.Humic substances are distinctive and complex because the extracted HS formed during the humification are chemically distinct from their precursors and are heterogeneous among soils.By reviewing the concept, formation pathways, and stabilization of HS,we propose that the key question facing soil scientists is whether HS are soil microbial residues or unique synthesized compounds.Without revealing the distinctiveness of HS,it is impossible to address this question,as the structure, composition, and reactivity of HS are still poorly known owing to the heterogeneity and geographical variability of HS and the limits of the currently available analytical techniques. In our view, the distinctiveness of HS is fundamental to the soil, and thus further studies should be focused on revealing the distinctiveness of HS and explaining why HS hold this distinctiveness. | Sen DOU Jun SHAN Xiangyun SONG Rui CAO Meng WU Chenglin LI Song GUAN | 2020 | Pedosphere2020,30,2: | 12
Shale characteristics impact on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) fluid typing methods and correlations显示文摘The development of shale reservoirs has brought a paradigm shift in the worldwide energy equation. This entails developing robust techniques to properly evaluate and unlock the potential of those reservoirs. The application of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance techniques in fluid typing and properties estimation is well-developed in conventional reservoirs. However,Shale reservoirs characteristics like pore size, organic matter, clay content, wettability, adsorption, and mineralogy would limit the applicability of the used interpretation methods and correlation. Some of these limitations include the inapplicability of the controlling equations that were derived assuming fast relaxation regime, the overlap of different fluids peaks and the lack of robust correlation to estimate fluid properties in shale. This study presents a state-of-the-art review of the main contributions presented on fluid typing methods and correlations in both experimental and theoretical side. The study involves Dual Tw,Dual Te,and doping agent's application,T1-T2,D-T2 and T2sec vs.T1/T2 methods. In addition, fluid properties estimation such as density, viscosity and the gas-oil ratio is discussed. This study investigates the applicability of these methods along with a study of the current fluid properties correlations and their limitations. Moreover,it recommends the appropriate method and correlation which are capable of tackling shale heterogeneity. | Mohamed Mehana Ilham El-monier | 2016 | Petroleum2016,2,2: | 11
黑河流域NDVI与环境因子的空间关联性(英文)显示文摘The Heihe River Basin is located in the arid and semi-arid regions of Northwest China. Here, the terrestrial ecosystem is vulnerable, making it necessary to identify the factors that could affect the ecosystem. In this study,MODIS-NDVI data with a 250-m resolution were used as a proxy for the terrestrial ecosystem.By combining these with environmental factors,we were able to explore the spatial features of NDVI and identify the factors influencing the NDVI distribution in the Heihe River Basin during the period of 2000–2016.A geographical detector(Geodetector) was employed to examine the spatial heterogeneity of the NDVI and to explore the factors that could potentially influence the NDVI distribution. The results indicate that:(1) the NDVI in the Heihe River Basin appeared high in the southeast while being low in the north, showing spatial heterogeneity with a q-statistic of 0.38.The spatial trend of the vegetation in the three sub-basins generally increased in the growing seasons from 2000 to 2016;(2) The results obtained by the Geodetector(as denoted by the q-statistic as well as the degree of spatial association between the NDVI and environmental factors) showed spatial heterogeneity in the associations between the NDVI and the environmental factors for the overall basin as well as the sub-basins.Precipitation was the dominant factor for the overall basin. In the upper basin, elevation was found to be the dominant factor. The dominant factor in the middle basin was precipitation, closely followed by the soil type.In the lower basin, the dominant factor was soil type with a lower q-statistic of 0.13,and the dominant interaction between the elevation and soil type was nonlinearly enhanced(q-statistic = 0.22). | 袁丽华 陈小强 王翔宇 熊喆 宋长青 | 2019 | Journal of Geographical Sciences2019,29,9: | 11
Spatial heterogeneity of soil chemical properties between Haloxylon persicum and Haloxylon ammodendron populations显示文摘Spatial heterogeneity is a ubiquitous feature in natural ecosystems, especially in arid regions. Different species and their discontinuous distribution, accompanied by varied topographic characteristics, result in soil resources distributed differently in different locations, and present significant spatial heterogeneity in desert ecosystems. In this study, conventional and geostatistical methods were used to identify the heterogeneity of soil chemical properties in two desert populations, Haloxylon persicum Bunge ex Boss., which dominates on the slopes and tops of sand dunes and Haloxylon ammodendron (C. A. Mey.) Bunge, which inhabits interdunes in the Gurbantunggut Desert of Xinjiang, China. The results showed that soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC), soil organic carbon (SOC), available nitrogen (AN) and available phosphorus (AP) were significantly higher in H. ammodendron populations than that in H. persicum. The coefficient of variation (CV) indicated that (1) most parameters presented a moderate degree of variability (10% < CV < 100%) except pH in both plots, (2) the variability of soil pH, EC and AP in H. ammodendron populations was higher than that in H. persicum populations, and (3) SOC and AN in H. ammodendron populations were lower than that in H. persicum populations. Geostatistical analysis revealed a strong spatial dependence (C0/(C0+C) < 25%) within the distance of ranges for all tested parameters in both plots. The Kriging-interpolated figures showed that the soil spatial distribution was correlated with the vegetation distribution, individual size of plants, and the topographic features, especially with the plants nearest to sampling points and the topographic features. In each plot, soil EC, SOC, AN and AP presented similar distributions, and fertile islands and salt islands occurred in both plots but did not affect every individual plant, since the sampling distance was larger than the size of such fertile islands. The results of topographic effects on soil heterogeneity suggested significant differences between the interdunes and dune-tops. Different topographic characteristics (physical factors) between plots result in the differences in SOC, AN and AP, while the heterogeneity of soil pH and EC arise from plant species and their distribution (biotic factor). Such biotic and physical factors did not occur in isolation, but worked together on soil heterogeneity, and played important parts in improving the soil properties. Hence these factors were ecologically valuable in the highly resource-stressed arid study area. | Li, CongJuan Li, Yan Ma, Jian Fan, LianLian Wang, QinXue | 2010 | Journal of Arid Land2010,2,4: | 11

Myeloid-specific targeting of Notch ameliorates murine renal fibrosis via reduced infiltration and activation of bone marrowderived macrophage显示文摘Macrophages play critical roles in renal fibrosis. However, macrophages exhibit ontogenic and functional heterogeneities, and which population of macrophages contributes to renal fibrosis and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study,we genetically targeted Notch signaling by disrupting the transcription factor recombination signal binding protein-JK(RBP-J),to reveal its role in regulation of macrophages during the unilateral ureteral obstruction(UUO)-induced murine renal fibrosis.Myeloid-specific disruption of RBP-J attenuated renal fibrosis with reduced extracellular matrix deposition and myofibroblast activation,as well as attenuated epithelial-mesenchymal transition, likely owing to the reduced expression of TGF-β.Mean while,RBP-J deletion significantly hampered macrophage infiltration and activation in fibrotic kidney, although their proliferation appeared unaltered.By using macrophage clearance experiment,we found that kidney resident macrophages made negligible contribution, but bone marrow(BM)-derived macrophages played a major role in renal fibrogenesis.Further mechanistic analyses showed that Notch blockade reduced monocyte emigration from BM by down-regulating CCR2 expression. Finally,we found that myeloid-specific Notch activation aggravated renal fibrosis, which was mediated by CCR2^+macrophages infiltration. In summary, our data have unveiled that myeloid-specific targeting of Notch could ameliorate renal fibrosis by regulating BM-derived macrophages recruitment and activation, providing a novel strategy for intervention of this disease. | Yali Jiang Yuanyuan Wang Pengfei Ma Dongjie An Junlong Zhao Shiqian Liang Yuchen Ye Yingying Lu Peng Zhang Xiaowei Liu Hua Han Hongyan Qin | 2019 | Protein & Cell2019,10,3: | 10
Personalized targeted therapy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma continues to heavily burden clinicians worldwide. Researchers have discovered the genomic landscape of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, which holds promise for an era of personalized oncology care. One of the most pressing problems facing this issue is to improve the understanding of the newly available genomic data, and identify the driver-gene mutations, pathways, and networks. The emergence of a legion of novel targeted agents has generated much hope and hype regarding more potent treatment regimens, but the accuracy of drug selection is still arguable. Other problems, such as cancer heterogeneity, drug resistance, exceptional responders, and side effects, have to be surmounted. | 17 | Genomic alterations and molecular subtypes of gastric cancers in Asians显示文摘Gastric cancer(GC) is a highly heterogenic disease, and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in the world.Common chemotherapies are not very effective for GC,which often presents as an advanced or metastatic disease at diagnosis.Treatment options are limited, and the prognosis for advanced GCs is poor. The landscape of genomic alterations in GCs has recently been characterized by several international cancer genome programs, including studies that focused exclusively on GCs in Asians. These studies identified major recurrent driver mutations and provided new insights into the mutational heterogeneity and genetic profiles of GCs.An analysis of gene expression data by the Asian Cancer Research Group(ACRG) further uncovered four distinct molecular subtypes with well-defined clinical features and their intersections with actionable genetic alterations to which targeted therapeutic agents are either already available or under clinical development. In this article,we review the ACRG GC project. We also discuss the implications of the genetic and molecular findings from various GC genomic studies with respect to developing more precise diagnoses and treatment approaches for GCs. | Xiang S.Ye Chunping Yu Amit Aggarwal Christoph Reinhard | 2016 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2016,35,8: | 10

Behavior of noncircular tunnels excavated in stratified rock masses-Case of underground coal mines显示文摘The amount of tunnels excavated along stratified/sedimentary rock masses in Quangninh coal mine area,Vietnam, is gradually increasing. Rock mass in Quangninh is characterized by beddings between rock layers. The behavior of stratified rock masses surrounding the tunnels depends on both the intact rock and the beddings between rock layers. The main characteristics of stratified rock masses that need to be considered are their heterogeneity and anisotropy. Depending on the dip angle of rock layers, movements and failure zones developed surrounding the tunnels can be asymmetrical over the vertical axis of tunnel. This asymmetry causes adverse behaviors of the tunnel structures. The objective of this study is to highlight convergences and yielded zones developed in rock masses surrounding noncircular tunnels in Quangninh coal mine area using a finite element method. The presence of bedding joints is explicitly simulated. The numerical results indicated that with the increase in dip angle of bedding joints, the stress asymmetry over the tunnel vertical axis increases. It gradually leads to an asymmetry of the failure zone surrounding the tunnel. An increase of rock mass quality means a decrease of rock mass sensitivity to the discontinuities. In addition,a dip angle of the bedding joints of approximately 45° could be considered as the critical angle at which the rock mass mechanism changes between sliding and bending. | Ngoc Anh Do Daniel Dias Van Diep Dinh Tien Tung Tran Van Canh Dao Viet Doan Dao Phuc Nhan Nguyen | 2019 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2019,11,1: | 9
| 20 | White Matter Abnormalities in Major Depression Biotypes Identified by Diffusion Tensor Imaging显示文摘Identifying data-driven biotypes of major depressive disorder(MDD) has promise for the clarification of diagnostic heterogeneity. However, few studies have focused on white-matter abnormalities for MDD subtyping. This study included 116 patients with MDD and118 demographically-matched healthy controls assessed by diffusion tensor imaging and neurocognitive evaluation.Hierarchical clustering was applied to the major fiber tracts, in conjunction with tract-based spatial statistics, to reveal white-matter alterations associated with MDD.Clinical and neurocognitive differences were compared between identified subgroups and healthy controls. With fractional anisotropy extracted from 20 fiber tracts, cluster analysis revealed 3 subgroups based on the patterns of abnormalities. Patients in each subgroup versus healthy controls showed a stepwise pattern of white-matter alterations as follows: subgroup 1(25.9% of patient sample),widespread white-matter disruption;subgroup 2(43.1% of patient sample), intermediate and more localized abnormalities in aspects of the corpus callosum and left cingulate;and subgroup 3(31.0% of patient sample),possible mild alterations, but no statistically significant tract disruption after controlling for family-wise error. The neurocognitive impairment in each subgroup accompanied the white-matter alterations: subgroup 1, deficits in sustained attention and delayed memory;subgroup 2, dysfunction in delayed memory;and subgroup 3, no significant deficits. Three subtypes of white-matter abnormality exist in individuals with major depression, those having widespread abnormalities suffering more neurocognitive impairments, which may provide evidence for parsing the heterogeneity of the disorder and help optimize typespecific treatment approaches. | Sugai Liang Qiang Wang Xiangzhen Kong Wei Deng Xiao Yang Xiaojing Li Zhong Zhang Jian Zhang Chengcheng Zhang Xin-min Li Xiaohong Ma Junming Shao Andrew J.
