Object-oriented land cover classification using HJ-1 remote sensing imagery显示文摘The object-oriented information extraction technique was used to improve classification accuracy, and addressed the problem that HJ-1 CCD remote sensing images have only four spectral bands with moderate spatial resolution. We used two key techniques:the selection of optimum image segmentation scale and the development of an appropriate object-oriented information extraction strategy. With the principle of minimizing merge cost of merging neighboring pixels/objects,we used spatial autocorrelation index Moran's I and the variance index to select the optimum segmentation scale. The Nearest Neighborhood(NN) classifier based on sampling and a knowledge-based fuzzy classifier were used in the object-oriented information extraction strategy. In this classification step, feature optimization was used to improve information extraction accuracy using reduced data dimension. These two techniques were applied to land cover information extraction for Shanghai city using a HJ-1 CCD image. Results indicate that the information extraction accuracy of the object-oriented method was much higher than that of the pixel-based method. | SUN ZhongPing1,SHEN WenMing1,WEI Bin1,LIU XiaoMan1,SU Wei2,ZHANG Chao2 & YANG JianYu2 1 Satellite Environment Center,Ministry of Environmental Protection,Beijing 100094,China 2 College of Information and Electrical Engineering,China Agricultural University,Beijing 100083,China | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,S1: | 15
Update on thyroid ultrasound: a narrative review from diagnostic criteria to artificial intelligence techniques显示文摘Objective Ultrasound imaging is well known to play an important role in the detection of thyroid disease, but the management of thyroid ultrasound remains inconsistent. Both standardized diagnostic criteria and new ultrasound technologies are essential for improving the accuracy of thyroid ultrasound. This study reviewed the global guidelines of thyroid ultrasound and analyzed their common characteristics for basic clinical screening. Advances in the application of a combination of thyroid ultrasound and artificial intelligence (AI) were also presented. Data sources An extensive search of the PubMed database was undertaken, focusing on research published after 2001 with keywords including thyroid ultrasound, guideline, AI, segmentation, image classification, and deep learning. Study selection Several types of articles, including original studies and literature reviews, were identified and reviewed to summarize the importance of standardization and new technology in thyroid ultrasound diagnosis. Results Ultrasound has become an important diagnostic technique in thyroid nodules. Both standardized diagnostic criteria and new ultrasound technologies are essential for improving the accuracy of thyroid ultrasound. In the standardization, since there are no global consensus exists, common characteristics such as a multi-feature diagnosis, the performance of lymph nodes, explicit indications of fine needle aspiration, and the diagnosis of special populations should be focused on. Besides, evidence suggests that AI technique has a good effect on the unavoidable limitations of traditional ultrasound, and the combination of diagnostic criteria and AI may lead to a great promotion in thyroid diagnosis. Conclusion Standardization and development of novel techniques are key factors to improving thyroid ultrasound, and both should be considered in normal clinical use. | Xiao-Wen Liang Yong-Yi Cai Jin-Sui Yu Jian-Yi Liao Zhi-Yi Chen | 2019 | Chinese Medical Journal2019,,16: | 7
Potential Bands of Sentinel-2A Satellite for Classification Problems in Precision Agriculture显示文摘Various indices are used for assessing vegetation and soil properties in satellite remote sensing applications. Some indices, such as normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) and normalized difference water index(NDWI), are capable of simply differentiating crop vitality and water stress. Nowadays, remote sensing capabilities with high spectral, spatial and temporal resolution are available to analyse classification problems in precision agriculture. Many challenges in precision agriculture can be addressed by supervised classification, such as crop type classification, disease and stress(e.g., grass, water and nitrogen) monitoring. Instead of performing classification based on designated indices, this paper explores direct classification using different bands information as features. Land cover classification by using the recently launched Sentinel-2A image is adopted as a case study to validate our method. Four approaches of featured band selection are compared to classify five classes(crop, tree, soil, water and road) with the support vector machines(SVMs)algorithm, where the first approach utilizes traditional empirical indices as features and the latter three approaches adopt specific bands(red, near infrared and short wave infrared) related to indices, specific bands after ranking by mutual information(MI), and full bands of on-board sensors as features, respectively. It is shown that a better classification performance can be achieved by directly using the selected bands after MI ranking compared with the one using empirical indices and specific bands related to indices, while the use of all 13 bands can marginally improve the classification accuracy than MI based one. Therefore, it is recommended that this approach can be applied for specific Sentinel-2A image classification problems in precision agriculture. | Tian-Xiang Zhang Jin-Ya Su Cun-Jia Liu Wen-Hua Chen | 2019 | International Journal of Automation and computing2019,16,1: | 6
Deep learning classification of coastal wetland hyperspectral image combined spectra and texture features: A case study of Huanghe(Yellow) River Estuary wetland显示文摘This paper develops a deep learning classification method with fully-connected 8-layers characteristics to classification of coastal wetland based on CHRIS hyperspectral image. The method combined spectral feature and multi-spatial texture feature information has been applied in the Huanghe(Yellow) River Estuary coastal wetland. The results show that:(1) Based on testing samples, the DCNN model combined spectral feature and texture feature after K-L transformation appear high classification accuracy, which is up to 99%.(2) The accuracy by using spectral feature with all the texture feature is lower than that using spectral only and combing spectral and texture feature after K-L transformation. The DCNN classification accuracy using spectral feature and texture feature after K-L transformation was up to 99.38%, and the outperformed that of all the texture feature by 4.15%.(3) The classification accuracy of the DCNN method achieves better performance than other methods based on the whole validation image, with an overall accuracy of 84.64% and the Kappa coefficient of 0.80.(4) The developed DCNN model classification algorithm ensured the accuracy of all types is more balanced, and it also greatly improved the accuracy of tidal flat and farmland, while kept the classification accuracy of main types almost invariant compared to the shallow algorithms. The classification accuracy of tidal flat and farmland is up to 79.26% and 56.72%respectively based on the DCNN model. And it improves by about 2.51% and 10.6% compared with that of the other shallow classification methods. | Yabin Hu Jie Zhang Yi Ma Xiaomin Li Qinpei Sun Jubai An | 2019 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,5: | 5
A new endoscopic ultrasonography image processing method to evaluate the prognosis for pancreatic cancer treated with interstitial brachytherapy显示文摘AIM:To develop a fuzzy classification method to score the texture features of pancreatic cancer in endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS)images and evaluate its utility in making prognosis judgments for patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer treated by EUS-guided interstitial brachytherapy.METHODS:EUS images from our retrospective database were analyzed. The regions of interest were drawn, and texture features were extracted, selected, and scored with a fuzzy classification method using a C++program. Then, patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer were enrolled to receive EUS-guided iodine 125 radioactive seed implantation.Their fuzzy classification scores, tumor volumes, and carbohydrate antigen 199(CA199)levels before and after the brachytherapy were recorded. The association between the changes in these parameters and overall survival was analyzed statistically.RESULTS:EUS images of 153 patients with pancreatic cancer and 63 non-cancer patients were analyzed.A total of 25 consecutive patients were enrolled, and they tolerated the brachytherapy well without any complications. There was a correlation between the change in the fuzzy classification score and overall survival(Spearman test,r=0.616,P=0.001),whereas no correlation was found to be significant between the change in tumor volume(P=0.663),CA199 level(P=0.659),and overall survival. There were 15 patients with a decrease in their fuzzy classification score after brachytherapy, whereas the fuzzy classification score increased in another 10 patients. There was a significant difference in overall survival between the two groups(67 d vs 151 d,P=0.001),but not in the change of tumor volume and CA199 level.CONCLUSION:Using the fuzzy classification method to analyze EUS images of pancreatic cancer is feasible, and the method can be used to make prognosis judgments for patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer treated by interstitial brachytherapy. | Wei Xu Yan Liu Zheng Lu Zhen-Dong Jin Yu-Hong Hu Jian-Guo Yu Zhao-Shen Li | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,38: | 5
Multiple Deep-Belief-Network-Based Spectral-Spatial Classification of Hyperspectral Images显示文摘A deep-learning-based feature extraction has recently been proposed for HyperSpectral Images(HSI)classification. A Deep Belief Network(DBN), as part of deep learning, has been used in HSI classification for deep and abstract feature extraction. However, DBN has to simultaneously deal with hundreds of features from the HSI hyper-cube, which results into complexity and leads to limited feature abstraction and performance in the presence of limited training data. Moreover, a dimensional-reduction-based solution to this issue results in the loss of valuable spectral information, thereby affecting classification performance. To address the issue, this paper presents a Spectral-Adaptive Segmented DBN(SAS-DBN) for spectral-spatial HSI classification that exploits the deep abstract features by segmenting the original spectral bands into small sets/groups of related spectral bands and processing each group separately by using local DBNs. Furthermore, spatial features are also incorporated by first applying hyper-segmentation on the HSI. These results improved data abstraction with reduced complexity and enhanced the performance of HSI classification. Local application of DBN-based feature extraction to each group of bands reduces the computational complexity and results in better feature extraction improving classification accuracy. In general, exploiting spectral features effectively through a segmented-DBN process and spatial features through hyper-segmentation and integration of spectral and spatial features for HSI classification has a major effect on the performance of HSI classification. Experimental evaluation of the proposed technique on well-known HSI standard data sets with different contexts and resolutions establishes the efficacy of the proposed techniques, wherein the results are comparable to several recently proposed HSI classification techniques. | Atif Mughees Linmi Tao | 2019 | Tsinghua Science and Technology2019,24,2: | 3

Spectral-spatial Classification of Hyperspectral Images Using Signal Subspace Identification and Edge-preserving Filter显示文摘Hyperspectral images in remote sensing include hundreds of spectral bands that provide valuable information for accurately identify objects. In this paper,a new method of classifying hyperspectral images using spectral spatial information has been presented. Here, using the hyperspectral signal subspace identification(HYSIME)method which estimates the signal and noise correlation matrix and selects a subset of eigenvalues for the best representation of the signal subspace in order to minimize the mean square error, subsets from the main sample space have been extracted. After subspace extraction with the help of the HYSIME method, the edge-preserving filtering(EPF),and classification of the hyperspectral subspace using a support vector machine(SVM),results were then merged into the decision-making level using majority rule to create the spectral-spatial classifier. The simulation results showed that the spectral-spatial classifier presented leads to significant improvement in the accuracy and validity of the classification of Indiana,Pavia and Salinas hyperspectral images, such that it can classify these images with 98.79%,98.88% and 97.31% accuracy, respectively. | Negin Alborzi Fereshteh Poorahangaryan Homayoun Beheshti | 2020 | International Journal of Automation and computing2020,17,2: | 3
Convolutional Neural Network Based on Spatial Pyramid for Image Classification显示文摘A novel convolutional neural network based on spatial pyramid for image classification is proposed. The network exploits image features with spatial pyramid representation.First,it extracts global features from an original image, and then different layers of grids are utilized to extract feature maps from different convolutional layers.Inspired by the spatial pyramid, the new network contains two parts, one of which is just like a standard convolutional neural network, composing of alternating convolutions and subsampling layers. But those convolution layers would be averagely pooled by the grid way to obtain feature maps, and then concatenated into a feature vector individually. Finally, those vectors are sequentially concatenated into a total feature vector as the last feature to the fully connection layer. This generated feature vector derives benefits from the classic and previous convolution layer, while the size of the grid adjusting the weight of the feature maps improves the recognition efficiency of the network.Experimental results demonstrate that this model improves the accuracy and applicability compared with the traditional model. | Gaihua Wang Meng Lu Tao Li Guoliang Yuan Wenzhou Liu | 2018 | Journal of Beijing Institute of Technology2018,27,4: | 2
Robust Face Recognition via Low-rank Sparse Representation-based Classification显示文摘Face recognition has attracted great interest due to its importance in many real-world applications. In this paper,we present a novel low-rank sparse representation-based classification(LRSRC) method for robust face recognition. Given a set of test samples, LRSRC seeks the lowest-rank and sparsest representation matrix over all training samples. Since low-rank model can reveal the subspace structures of data while sparsity helps to recognize the data class, the obtained test sample representations are both representative and discriminative. Using the representation vector of a test sample, LRSRC classifies the test sample into the class which generates minimal reconstruction error. Experimental results on several face image databases show the effectiveness and robustness of LRSRC in face image recognition. | Hai-Shun Du Qing-Pu Hu Dian-Feng Qiao Ioannis Pitas | 2015 | International Journal of Automation and computing2015,12,6: | 2
D-SS Frame:deep spectral-spatial feature extraction and fusion for classification of panchromatic and multispectral images显示文摘Facing the very high-resolution( VHR) image classification problem,a feature extraction and fusion framework is presented for VHR panchromatic and multispectral image classification based on deep learning techniques. The proposed approach combines spectral and spatial information based on the fusion of features extracted from panchromatic( PAN) and multispectral( MS) images using sparse autoencoder and its deep version. There are three steps in the proposed method, the first one is to extract spatial information of PAN image, and the second one is to describe spectral information of MS image. Finally,in the third step, the features obtained from PAN and MS images are concatenated directly as a simple fusion feature. The classification is performed using the support vector machine( SVM) and the experiments carried out on two datasets with very high spatial resolution. MS and PAN images from WorldView-2 satellite indicate that the classifier provides an efficient solution and demonstrate that the fusion of the features extracted by deep learning techniques from PAN and MS images performs better than that when these techniques are used separately. In addition, this framework shows that deep learning models can extract and fuse spatial and spectral information greatly, and have huge potential to achieve higher accuracy for classification of multispectral and panchromatic images. | Teffahi Hanane Yao Hongxun | 2018 | High Technology Letters2018,24,4: | 2
Semi-Supervised Classification based on Gaussian Mixture Model for remote imagery显示文摘Semi-Supervised Classification (SSC),which makes use of both labeled and unlabeled data to determine classification borders in feature space, has great advantages in extracting classification information from mass data.In this paper,a novel SSC method based on Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) is proposed,in which each class’s feature space is described by one GMM.Experiments show the proposed method can achieve high classification accuracy with small amount of labeled data. However, for the same accuracy, supervised classification methods such as Support Vector Machine,Object Oriented Classification, etc.should be provided with much more labeled data. | XIONG Biao1,ZHANG XiaoJun1 & JIANG WanShou1,2 1 State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying,Mapping and Remote Sensing,Wuhan University,Wuhan 430079,China 2 State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science,Beijing,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,S1: | 2
A STUDY ON WETLAND CLASSIFICATION MODEL OF REMOTE SENSING IN THE SANGJIANG PLAIN显示文摘The Sanjiang Plain, where nearly 20 kinds of wetlands exist now, is one of the largest wetlands distributed area of wetlands in China. To identify each of them and pick up them separately by means of automatic interpretation of remote sensing from TM Landsat images is extremely important. However, most of the types of wetlands can not be divided each other due to the similarity and the illegibility of the wetland spectrum shown in TM images. Special disposals to remote sensing images include the spectrum enhancement of wetland information, the pseudo color composite of TM images of different bands and the algebra enhancement of TM images. By this way some kinds of wetlands such as Sparganium stoloniferum and Bolboschoenus maritimus can be identified. But in many cases, these methods are still insufficient because of the noise brought from the atmosphere transportation and so on. The physical features of wetlands reflecting the diversification of spectrum information of wetlands, which include the spatial temporal characteristics of the wetlands distribution, the landscape differences of wetlands from season to season, the growing environment and the vertical structure of wetlands vegetation and so on, must be taken into consideration. Besides these, the artificial alteration to spatial structure of wetlands such as the exploitation of some types of them can be also used as important symbols of wetlands identification from remote sensing images. On the basis of the above geographics analysis, a set of wetlands classification models of remote sensing could be established, and many types of wetlands such as paddy field, reed swamp, peat mire, meadow, CAREX marsh and paludification meadow and so on, will be distinguished consequently. All the ways of geographical analysis and model establishment will be given in detail in this article. | Shu-qing Zhang Shi-kui Zhang Jun-yan Zhang | 2000 | Chinese Geographical Science2000,10,1: | 2
Landform classification based on optimal texture feature extraction from DEM data in Shandong Hilly Area, China显示文摘Texture and its analysis methods are crucial for image feature extraction and classification. Digital elevation model (DEM) is the most important data source of digital terrain analysis and landform classification, and considerable research values are gained from texture feature extraction and analysis from DEM data. In this research, on the basis of optimal texture feature extraction, the hilly area in Shandong, China, was selected as the study area, and DEM data with a resolution of 500 m were used as the experimental data for landform classification. First, second-order texture measures and texture image were extracted from DEM data by using a gray level cooccurrence matrix (GLCM). Second, the variation characteristics of each texture measure were analyzed, and the optimal feature parameters, such as direction, gray level, and texture window, were determined. Meanwhile, the texture feature value, combined with maximum information, was calculated, and the multiband texture image was obtained by resolving three optimal texture measure images. Finally, a support vector machine (SVM) method was adopted to classify landforms on the basis of the multiband texture image. Results indicated that the texture features of DEM data can be sufficiently represented and measured via the quantitative GLCM method. However, the feature parameters during the texture feature value calculation required further optimization. Based on the image texture from DEM data, efficient classification accuracy and ideal classification effect were achieved. | Hongchun ZHU Yuexue XU Yu CHENG Haiying LIU Yipeng ZHAO | 2019 | Frontiers of Earth Science2019,13,3: | 1
General image classification method based on semi-supervised generative adversarial networks显示文摘Generative adversarial networks(GANs) have become a competitive method among computer vision tasks. There have been many studies devoted to utilizing generative network to do generative tasks, such as images synthesis. In this paper, a semi-supervised learning scheme is incorporated with generative adversarial network on image classification tasks to improve the image classification accuracy. Two applications of GANs are mainly focused on: semi-supervised learning and generation of images which can be as real as possible. The whole process is divided into two sections. First, only a small part of the dataset is utilized as labeled training data. And then a huge amount of samples generated from the generator is added into the training samples to improve the generalization of the discriminator. Through the semi-supervised learning scheme, full use of the unlabeled data is made which may contain potential information. Thus, the classification accuracy of the discriminator can be improved. Experimental results demonstrate the improvement of the classification accuracy of discriminator among different datasets, such as MNIST, CIFAR-10. | 苏磊 Xu Xiangyi Lu Qiyu Zhang Wancai | 2019 | High Technology Letters2019,25,1: | 1

A Novel Image Classification Algorithm Based on Extreme Learning Machine显示文摘In order to improve the accuracy and reduce the training and testing time in image classification algorithm, a novel image classification scheme based on extreme learning machine(ELM) and linear spatial pyramid matching using sparse coding(Sc SPM) for image classification is proposed. A new structure based on two layer extreme learning machine instead of the original linear SVM classifier is constructed. Firstly, the Sc SPM algorithm is performed to extract features of the multi-scale image blocks, and then each layer feature vector is connected to an ELM. Finally, the mapping features are connected together, and as the input of one ELM based on radial basis kernel function. With experimental evaluations on the well-known dataset benchmarks, the results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has better performance not only in reducing the training time, but also in improving the accuracy of classification. | YU Jing SONG Wei LI Ming HOU Jianjun WANG Nan | 2015 | China Communications2015,12,S2: | 1
Zero-shot Fine-grained Classification by Deep Feature Learning with Semantics显示文摘Fine-grained image classification, which aims to distinguish images with subtle distinctions, is a challenging task for two main reasons: lack of sufficient training data for every class and difficulty in learning discriminative features for representation. In this paper, to address the two issues, we propose a two-phase framework for recognizing images from unseen fine-grained classes, i.e., zeroshot fine-grained classification. In the first feature learning phase, we finetune deep convolutional neural networks using hierarchical semantic structure among fine-grained classes to extract discriminative deep visual features. Meanwhile, a domain adaptation structure is induced into deep convolutional neural networks to avoid domain shift from training data to test data. In the second label inference phase, a semantic directed graph is constructed over attributes of fine-grained classes. Based on this graph, we develop a label propagation algorithm to infer the labels of images in the unseen classes. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets demonstrate that our model outperforms the state-of-the-art zero-shot learning models. In addition, the features obtained by our feature learning model also yield significant gains when they are used by other zero-shot learning models, which shows the flexility of our model in zero-shot finegrained classification. | Ao-Xue Li Ke-Xin Zhang Li-Wei Wang | 2019 | International Journal of Automation and computing2019,16,5: | 1
INTEGRATED VEGETATION CLASSIFICATION AND MAPPINGUSING REMOTE SENSING AND GIS TECHNIQUES显示文摘NOAA-AVHRR data have been more and more used by scientists because of its short temporal resolution, large scope, inexpensive cost and broad wave bands. On macro and middle scale of vegetation remote sensing, NOAAAVHRR possesses an advantage when compared with other satellites. However, because NOAA-AVHRR also problem of low resolution, data distortion and geometrical distortion, in the area of application of NOAA-AVHRR in largescale vegetation - mapping, the accuracy of vegetation classification should be improved. This paper discuss the feasibilityof integrating the geographic data in GIS(Geographical Information System) and remotely sensed data in GIS. Under theenvironment of GIS, temperature, precipitation and elevation, which serve as main factors affecting vegetation growth, were processed by a mathematical model and qualified into geographic image under a certain grid system. The geographicimage were overlaid to the NOAA-AVHRR data which had been compressed and processed. In order to evaluate the usefulness of geographic data for vegetation classification, the area under study was digitally classified by two groups of interpreter: the proposed methodology using maximum likelihood classification assisted by the geographic database and a conventional maximum likelihood classification only. Both result were compared using Kappa statistics. The indices to both theproposed and the conventional digital classification methodology were 0. 668(yew good) and 0. 563(good), respetively. The geographic database rendered an improvement over the conventional digital classification. Furthermore, in this study, some problems related to multi-sources data integration are also discussed. | 庄大方 凌扬荣 | 1999 | Chinese Geographical Science1999,9,1: | 1
Locality preserving fusion of multi-source images for sea-ice classification显示文摘We present a novel sea-ice classification framework based on locality preserving fusion of multi-source images information. The locality preserving fusion arises from two-fold,i.e.,the local characterization in both spatial and feature domains. We commence by simultaneously learning a projection matrix, which preserves spatial localities, and a similarity matrix, which encodes feature similarities. We map the pixels of multi-source images by the projection matrix to a set fusion vectors that preserve spatial localities of the image. On the other hand,by applying the Laplacian eigen-decomposition to the similarity matrix,we obtain another set of fusion vectors that preserve the feature local similarities. We concatenate the fusion vectors for both spatial and feature locality preservation and obtain the fusion image. Finally,we classify the fusion image pixels by a novel sliding ensemble strategy, which enhances the locality preservation in classification. Our locality preserving fusion framework is effective in classifying multi-source sea-ice images(e.g.,multi-spectral and synthetic aperture radar(SAR)images)because it not only comprehensively captures the spatial neighboring relationships but also intrinsically characterizes the feature associations between different types of sea-ices.Experimental evaluations validate the effectiveness of our framework. | Zhiqiang Yu Tingwei Wang Xi Zhang Jie Zhang Peng Ren | 2019 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2019,38,7: | 1
