1Two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography for the assessment of atrial function显示文摘Echocardiography is the most common diagnostic method for assessing atrial function but the technique has some limitations. Traditionally, assessment of left atrial function has been performed by measuring volumes with 2D echocardiography. Additionally, it can be assessed with transmitral Doppler and pulmonary vein Doppler. Recently, an alternative method has been incorporated, namely, measurement of myocardial deformation with color tissue Doppler-derived strain. However, this method has several limitations, such as suboptimal reproducibility, angle-dependence, signal artifacts and the fact that it only measures regional strain and does not obtain information about the curved portion of the atrial roof. To overcome these limitations in the quantification of atrial function, the use of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) strain has been proposed. This technique is not derived from Doppler but rather from 2D echocardiography; it is angle-independent and allows one to measure global as well as regional atrial strain. 2AN ANALYTICAL SOLUTION TO LONGITUDINAL VIBRATION OF A PILE OF ARBITRARY SEGMENTS WITH VARIABLE MODULUS显示文摘The vibration problem of a pile of arbitrary segments with variable modulus under exciting force is established, in which the influence of the soil under pile toe and the surroundings is taken into account. With Laplace transforms, the transmit functions for velocity and displacement of pile are derived. Furthermore, in terms of the convolution theorem and inversed Laplace transform, an analytical solution for the time domain response of a pile subjected to a semi-sine impulse is developed,which is the theoretical basis of the sonic method in pile integrity testing. Based on the solution, the vibration properties of pile with sharp or continuous modulus are studied. The validity of this approach is verified through fidd dynamic tests on some engineering piles. 3Clinical application of liver stiffness measurement using transient elastography in chronic liver disease from longitudinal perspectives显示文摘Accurate determination of the presence and degree of fibrosis in liver is of great importance, because the prognosis and management strategies for chronic liver disease depend mainly on these factors. To date, liver biopsy (LB) remains the 'gold standard' for assessing the severity of liver fibrosis; however, LB is often limited by its invasiveness, sampling error, and intra/ inter-observer variability in histological interpretation. Furthermore, repeated LB examinations within a short time interval are indeed ineligible in a real clinical practice. Thus, due to the pressing need for non-invasive surrogates for liver fibrosis, transient elastography (TE),as a novel ultrasound based technology, has allowed a noninvasive measurement of liver stiffness and has gained in popularity over recent years. In the past few years, additional roles for transient TE beyond the initial purpose of a non-invasive surrogate for LB have included the prediction of the most two critical consequences of fibrosis progression: the development of portal hypertension-related complications and hepatocellular carcinoma. This indicates that the role of transient TE is not merely limited to reducing the need for LB, but transient TE can enable the establishment of tailored management strategies by providing more detailed prognostic information. In particular, under the concept in which the clinical course of liver fibrosis is dynamic and bidirectional, especially when appropriate intervention is commenced, transient TE can be used to track the dynamic changes in fibrotic burden during antiviral or antifibrotic treatment. 4On the sand surface stability in the southern part of Gurbantünggüt Desert显示文摘Longitudinal dunes are the most widespread dune types in the world sand seas but comprehensive study on the sand surface stability is scarce. The southern part of Gurbantnggt Desert is mainly covered by longitudinal dune in which fixed and semi-fixed dunes occupy over 80% of the total area. Systematic analysis on the climatic conditions, the soil moisture and vegetation distributions, and the sand surface activities showed that the fixed and semi-fixed dunes are in a comprehensive low-energy wind environment. Snow cover and frozen soil provide a good protection to the ground surface in winter. The temporal distribution of precipitation and corresponding variation of temperature create a favorable condition for the desert plants growth, especially for the ephemeral plants. The occurrence of effective winds for sand moving in April to June coincides with the stage of relatively wet sand surface and good vegetation cover, which effectively keep the sand surface stable at the interdune and the plinth of the dunes. 5The rule of sediment transport on the Nanhui tidal flat in the Changjiang Estuary显示文摘The Nanhui tidal flat is located in the area of slow current where the ebb currents from the Changjiang Estuaryand the Hangzhou Bay converge and the flood current from the sea diverges into the estuary and the bay. The flat extends seaward in tongue shape and has a wide and gentle surface with a marked difference of tidal levels on its two sides, which results in the sediment longitudinal transport on the flat. The water-sediment conditions are diverse at different locations. The velocity and sediment concentration in intertidal zone are higher during the flood tide than those during the ebb tide. The net sediment transport is landward, resulting in a large amount of deposition of sediments on the shoal. However, the ebb current is the dominant one in deep-water area where the net sediment transport is seaward. 7Inhibitory effects of patchouli alcohol on stress-induced diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome显示文摘AIM To elucidate the mechanism of patchouli alcohol(PA) in treatment of rat models of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(IBS-D).METHODS We studied the effects of PA on colonic spontaneous motility using its cumulative log concentration(3 × 10^(-7) mol/L to 1 × 10^(-4)mol/L). We then determined the responses of the proximal and distal colon segments of rats to the folowing stimuli:(1) carbachol(1 × 10^(-9) mol/L to 1 × 10^(-5) mol/L);(2) neurotransmitter antagonists including N~ω-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride(10μmol/L) and(1 R~*, 2 S~*)-4-[2-Iodo-6-(methylamino)-9 Hpurin-9-yl]-2-(phosphonooxy)bicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-methanol dihydrogen phosphate ester tetraammonium salt(1 μmol/L);(3) agonist α,β-methyleneadenosine 5′-triphosphate trisodium salt(100 μmol/L); and(4) single KCl doses(120 mmol/L). The effects of blockers against antagonist responses were also assessed by pretreatment with PA(100 μmol/L) for 1 min. Electrical-field stimulation(40 V, 2-30 Hz, 0.5 ms pulse duration, and 10 s) was performed to observe nonadrenergic, noncholinergic neurotransmitter release in IBS-D rat colon. The ATP level of Kreb's solution was also determined.RESULTS PA exerted a concentration-dependent inhibitory effect on the spontaneous contraction of the colonic longitudinal smooth muscle, and the half maximal effective concentration(EC_(50)) was 41.9 μmol/L. In comparison with the KCl-treated IBS-D group, the contractile response(mg contractions) in the PA + KCl-treated IBS-D group(11.87 ± 3.34) was significantly decreased in the peak tension(P < 0.01). Compared with CCh-treated IBS-D rat colon, the cholinergic contractile response of IBS-D rat colonic smooth muscle(EC_(50) = 0.94 μmol/L) was significantly decreased by PA(EC_(50) = 37.43 μmol/L)(P < 0.05). Lack of nitrergic neurotransmitter release in stress-induced IBS-D rats showed contraction effects on colonic smooth muscle. Pretreatment with PA resulted in inhibitory effect on l-NAME-induced(10 μmol/L) contraction(P < 0.05). 8Empirical likelihood-based inference in a partially linear model for longitudinal data显示文摘A partially linear model with longitudinal data is considered, empirical likelihood to infer- ence for the regression coefficients and the baseline function is investigated, the empirical log-likelihood ratios is proven to be asymptotically chi-squared, and the corresponding confidence regions for the pa- rameters of interest are then constructed. Also by the empirical likelihood ratio functions, we can obtain the maximum empirical likelihood estimates of the regression coefficients and the baseline function, and prove the asymptotic normality. 9Spatial heterogeneity for grain size distribution of eolian sand soil on longitudinal dunes in the southern Gurbantunggut Desert显示文摘The grain size composition, distribution characteristics and spatial variation of eolian sand soil on distinct positions across two longitudinal dunes and interdune areas were studied by means of conventional grain size analysis and geostatistical methods. In the study, 184 samples of eolian sand soil from the 0-30cm layer were systemically collected and measured from two longitudinal dunes and interdunes in the southern Gurbantunggut Desert. The results show that the dominant grain sizes are fine and very fine sands, and the differences of grain size compositions between the distinct geomorphologic positions are significant. The contents of clay and silt are highest on the interdune areas and lowest on the crests, and higher on the leeward slopes than on the windward slopes. The contents of very fine and fine sands are highest on the windward slopes and lowest on the crests. The contents of medium, coarse and very coarse sands are lowest on the interdune lands, and highest on the crests, and are identical on the two slopes. The coarser sizes (φ1) and mean sizes (Mz) for eolian sand soil all have a varying tendency from fine to coarse sizes with interdune area → leeward slope → windward slope → crest, and the sorting (σ) are poorly to well sorted. The results of geostatistical analysis reveal that φ1, Mz and σ values are moderately to strongly spatially autocorrelated. 10Train–track coupled dynamics analysis:system spatial variation on geometry,physics and mechanics显示文摘This paper aims to clarify the influence of system spatial variability on train–track interaction from perspectives of stochastic analysis and statistics.Considering the spatial randomness of system properties in geometry,physics and mechanics,the primary work is therefore simulating the uncertainties realistically,representatively and efficiently.With regard to the track irregularity simulation,a model is newly developed to obtain random sample sets of track irregularities by transforming its power spectral density function into the equivalent track quality index for representation based on the discrete Parseval theorem,where the correlation between various types of track irregularities is accounted for.To statistically clarify the uncertainty of track properties in physics and mechanics in space,a model combining discrete element method and finite element method is developed to obtain the spatially varied track parametric characteristics,e.g.track stiffness and density,through which the highly expensive experiments in situ can be avoided.Finally a train–track stochastic analysis model is formulated by integrating the system uncertainties into the dynamics model.Numerical examples have validated the accuracy and efficiency of this model and illustrated the effects of system spatial variability on train–track vibrations comprehensively.Lei Xu Wanming Zhai 2020Railway Engineering Science2020,28,1:8
11Neural Network-Based Adaptive Motion Control for a Mobile Robot with Unknown Longitudinal Slipping显示文摘When the mobile robot performs certain motion tasks in complex environment, wheel slipping inevitably occurs due to the wet or icy road and other reasons, thus directly influences the motion control accuracy. To address unknown wheel longitudinal slipping problem for mobile robot, a RBF neural network approach based on whole model approximation is presented. The real-time data acquisition of inertial measure unit(IMU), encoders and other sensors is employed to get the mobile robot’s position and orientation in the movement, which is applied to compensate the unknown bounds of the longitudinal slipping using the adaptive technique. 12Effects of vegetation patch density on flow velocity characteristics in an open channel显示文摘The aquatic plants are often found in natural rivers,and they affect the channel flow structure significantly.To study the effects of the vegetation density a(the frontal area per volume)on the flow velocity characteristics,rigid bamboo circular cylinders are chosen as the model emergent vegetation.In the experiments,the density of the vegetation takes various values while all other flow parameters are kept constant.A 3-D acoustic Doppler velocimeter(ADV)is used to measure the local flow velocities for different vegetation densities.The results show that the existence of the vegetation patch leads to an increase of the depth-averaged velocity on the right and left sides behind the vegetation patch,and it increases monotonically with the vegetation density.For different vegetation densities,the lateral distribution of the stream-wise velocity behind the vegetation patch follows approximately an S-shaped profile when a≤60 m-1,and a logarithmic profile if a>60 m-1.The vertical distribution of the stream-wise velocity along the channel varies with the vegetation density and also follows an S-shaped distribution in a certain range,with the locations and the ranges being affected by the vegetation density.Wen-qi Li Dan Wang Jun-li Jiao Ke-jun Yang 2019Journal of Hydrodynamics2019,31,5:8
13A new control design for a morphing UAV based on disturbance observer and command filtered backstepping techniques显示文摘Morphing unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) can manipulate its shape for excellent flight performance under different conditions.The most research of the morphing UAV focuses on modeling. However, the issues including nonlinear characteristics, strong couplings, and mismatched disturbances are inevitable, which can lead to a great challenge in controller design. In this paper,a composite anti-disturbance controller is developed for morphing UAV to achieve enhanced flight performance under multiple sources of disturbances. In the inner loop, a nonlinear disturbance observer(DO) is constructed to estimate the inertial forces and moment;while in the outer loop, the command filtered backstepping(CFBS) method is adopted to guarantee the stability of the closed-loop system. The system outputs can promptly track reference signals in the morphing process of the UAV. The novelty is that the disturbance estimations are added into the control laws to compensate the mismatched disturbances. 14Design and field tests of a deck-extension bridge with small box girder显示文摘A jointless bridge could fundamentally eliminate vulnerable deck joints, thereby meeting the need for sustainable development of bridges, especially for an expressway with highspeed traffic. In this paper, one jointless bridge(deck-extension bridge) with a small box girder in an expressway was chosen as a case study to examine the structural design,construction and field test. The field tests of the bridge indicated that the designed and constructed structures can satisfy the requirement for service performance of the deckextension bridge. Some key technologies, such as the position of longitudinal reinforcements in the superstructure-approach slab connections and the arrangement of the sliding material layers, were introduced. The longitudinal thermal movement of the superstructure in the deck-extension bridge with a small box girder could be predicted accurately by using the average temperature of the cross section of a small box girder. The finite element model, built by using the MIDAS program, was used to analyze the temperature distribution on the cross section of a small box girder, the accuracy of which could be verified by comparing with the measured values. 16Clinical and paraclinical profile, and predictors of outcome in 90 cases of scrub typhus, Meghalaya, India显示文摘Background:India is an integral component of“tsutsugamushi triangle”which depicts a part of the globe endemic to scrub typhus.Owing to frequent outbreaks witnessed in different parts of the country in the recent past,scrub typhus is described as a re-emerging infectious disease in India.The present study aimed to study the clinical and paraclinical profile,complications and predictors of outcome among 90 cases of scrub typhus diagnosed in a hospital of north-eastern India from Sept 2011 to Aug 2012.Methods:A longitudinal study was conducted in a hospital of Meghalaya,India between Sept 2011 and Aug 2012.Diagnosis of scrub typhus was arrived by SD BIOLINE tsutsugamushi(solid phase immunochromatographic assay)rapid diagnostic test for antibodies(IgM,IgG or IgA).Descriptive analyses of age,gender,geographic area,symptoms and signs,treatment,laboratory findings,complications,and outcome were conducted.Relative risk(RR)with 95%confidence interval(CI)was computed for Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome(MODS)and mortality.Binary logistic regression was applied to the significant correlates(P<0.05)on univariate analysis to identify the predictors of MODS and mortality in scrub typhus.Results:As many as 662 clinically suspected scrub typhus patients were tested and 90(13.6%)were diagnosed to have scrub typhus.Out of 90 patients,52.2%(n=47)were males and their mean(SD)age was 36.29(13.38)years.Fever of<7 days(n=75,83.3%),myalgia(n=56,62.2%),pain abdomen(n=24,26.7%),headache(n=24,26.7%),nausea/vomiting(n=21,23.3%),dry cough(n=21,23.3%),hepatomegaly(n=24,26.7%),splenomegaly(n=22,24.4%),and lymphadenopathy(n=20,22.2%)were the predominant clinical features.Eschar was seen in 10 patients(11.1%).One third(n=30)of the patients developed at least one systemic complication.Acute hepatitis(n=15,16.7%),pneumonitis(n=14,15.6%),and acute kidney injury(n=11,12.2%)were the common complications.MODS was seen in 14.4%(n=13)and 38.5%(n=5)of the patients with MODS died.Overall,case fatality rate was 5.15%(n=5).On univariate analysis,platelets<100000/mm3,serum creatinine>1.5 mg/dl,and transaminase(AST,ALT or both)>500 U/L were associated with MODS(P<0.001)and mortality(P<0.05).In addition,serum bilirubin>3 mg/dl was also associated with MODS(P<0.001).On applying binary logistic regression,serum creatinine>1.5 mg/dl was a predictor of MODS(OR:76.1,95%CI:4.9–1175.6)and mortality(OR:18.03,95%CI:1.38–235.1).Conclusion:In this study setting,approximately one-seventh(13.6%)of the acute undifferentiated febrile illness were due to scrub typhus.Systemic complications were common(33.3%).Serum creatinine>1.5 mg/dl was a predictor of MODS and mortality.Sunuraj Sivarajan Siddharudha Shivalli Debomallya Bhuyan Michael Mawlong Rittwick Barman 2016Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1:6

19Analysis of longitudinal forces of coupler devices in emergency braking process for heavy haul trains显示文摘To reduce the longitudinal coupler forces of heavy haul trains and improve the running safety, the velocity method and New-mark method were used for the coupler simulation and numerical integration, and a numerical model on the longitudinal dynamics of heavy haul trains was established. Validation was performed against the experimental data. Using this model, the emergency braking process for a combined marshalling heavy haul train was investigated to obtain the distributions of the longitudinal compressive forces and strokes of coupler devices. Then, the influences of the initial braking velocity, the synchronization time of master and slave locomotives, the coupler stiffness and the vibrator mass on the longitudinal forces and strokes were analyzed. The results show that it should be avoided that the emergency braking starts at a low initial speed. Keeping synchronism between master locomotive and slave locomotives effectively helps to reduce the longitudinal forces. Reducing the coupler stiffness appropriately and adding rigid arm connections, the longitudinal vibration frequency can be brought down and the longitudinal forces will be decreased, which improves the running safety of heavy haul trains. 20Long-term monitoring revealed fish assemblage zonation in the Three Gorges Reservoir显示文摘Reservoirs are important artificial ecosystems that modify the hydrological and ecological characteristics of a river. Knowledge of the basic characteristics of fish assemblages in reservoirs is a first step toward the development of effective conservation policies. We used the information collected over a 10-year period (2006-2015) to assess the structure of the fish assemblages in the Three Gorge Reservoir (TGR) in a river-dam gradient. Three fish zones were detected in TGR. Species richness was the highest in the upper zone and lowest in the lower zone. The riverine zones were dominated by rheophilic species Coreius guichenoti and Pelteobagrus vachelli. The transitional zones were dominated by Coreius heterodon and Rhinogobio cylindricus. The lacustrine zones were dominated by eurytopic species Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Aristichthys nobilis, Hemiculter bleekeri and Cyprinus carpio. For the functional characteristics, fish assemblages in riverine and transitional zones were dominated by insectivorous species, equilibrium strategists and rheophilic species (e.g., Coreius heterodon and Coreius guichenoti). In lacustrine zones, the fish assemblage was dominated by habitat generalists common to lakes and reservoirs (e.g., Hemiculter bleekeri, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Aristichthys nobilis). Moreover, 18 exotic species (e.g., Protosalanx hyalocranius, Ictalurus punctatus, Megalobrama amblycephala, Tilapia) were collected in TGR, most of which only existed in the lacustrine zone.
