1Fabrication of NiFe layered double hydroxide with well-defined laminar superstructure as highly efficient oxygen evolution electrocatalysts显示文摘Structure-activity relationship (SAR) is the key problem of nanoscience, thus to fabricate novel and well-defined nanostructure will provide a new insight on catalyst preparation method.Highly active and low cost electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are of great importance for future renewable energy conversion and storage.Herein,NiFe-based layered double hydroxides with laminar structure (NFLS) were successfully fabricated via a one-step hydrothermal approach by using sodium dodecyl sulfate as surfactant. The as-fabricated NFLS showed a well-defined periodic layered-stacking geometry with a scale down to 1-nm.Benefitting from the unique structure,NFLS exhibited an excellent catalytic activity towards OER with current densities of 10 mA·cm^-2 at overpotential of 197 mV.The synergistic effect of Ni and Fe plays a key role in electrode reactions. The present work provides a new insight to improve the OER performance by rational design of electrocatalysts with unique structures.Hao Zhang Haoyi Li Bilal Akram Xun Wang 2019Nano Research2019,12,6:10
22D Layered Double Hydroxide Nanosheets and Their Derivatives Toward E cient Oxygen Evolution Reaction显示文摘Layered double hydroxides(LDHs)have attracted tremendous research interest in widely spreading applications. Most notably,transition-metal-bearing LDHs are expected to serve as highly active electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction(OER)due to their layered structure combined with versatile com-positions.Furthermore,reducing the thickness of platelet LDH crystals to nanometer or even molecular scale via cleavage or delamination provides an important clue to enhance the activity. In this review, recent progresses on rational design of LDH nanosheets are reviewed, including direct synthesis via traditional coprecipitation, homogeneous precipitation, and newly developed topochemical oxidation as well as chemical exfoliation of parent LDH crystals. In addition, diverse strategies are introduced to modulate their electrochemical activity by tuning the composition of host metal cations and intercalated counter-anions,and incorporating dopants,cavi-ties,and single atoms. In particular, hybridizing LDHs with conductive components or in situ growing them on conductive substrates to produce freestanding electrodes can further enhance their intrinsic catalytic activity.A brief discussion on future research directions and prospects is also summarized.Xueyi Lu Hairong Xue Hao Gong Mingjun Bai Daiming Tang Renzhi Ma Takayoshi Sasaki 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,7:8

5An efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst derived from layer-by-layer self-assembly of a three-dimensional porous Co-N-C@graphene显示文摘Three-dimensional (3D) porous carbon-based materials with tunable composition and microstructure are of great interest for the development of oxygen involved electrocatalytic reactions. Here, we report the synthesis of 3D porous carbon-based electrocatalyst by self-assembling Co-metal organic frameworks (MOF) building blocks on graphene via a layer-by-layer technique. Precise control of the structure and morphology is achieved by varying the MOF layer to tune the electrocatalytic properties. The as-produced electrocatalyst exhibits an excellent catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction in 0.1molL^-1 KOH, showing a high onset potential of 0.963V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and a low tafel slope of 54mVdec^-1, compared to Pt/C (0.934V and 52mVdec^-1, respectively). Additionally, it shows a slightly lower potential vs. RHE (1.72V) than RuO2 (1.75V) at 10mAcm^-2 in an alkaline electrolyte. A rechargeable Zn-air battery based on the as-produced 3D porous catalyst demonstrates a high peak power density of 119mWcm^-2 at a cell voltage of 0.578V while retaining an excellent stability over 250 charge-discharge cycles.Shichang Cai Rui Wang William M. 6Metal-organic framework based nanomaterials for electrocatalytic oxygen redox reaction显示文摘Due to the severe environmental issues, many advanced technologies, typically fuel cells and metal-air batteries have aroused widespread concerns and been intensively studied in recent years. However, oxygen redox reactions including oxygen evolution reaction(OER) and oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) as the core reactions suffer from sluggish kinetics of the multiple electron transfer process. Currently, Pt, RuO_2, and IrO_2 are considered to be the benchmark catalysts for ORR and OER, but their high price, scarcity and instability hinder them from large-scale application. To overcome these limits, exploring alternative electrocatalysts with low cost, high activity, long-term stability, and earth-abundance is of extreme urgency. Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) are a family of inorganic-organic hybrid materials with high surface areas and tunable structures, making them proper as catalyst candidates. Herein, the recent progress of MOFs and MOF-derived materials for ORR and OER is systematically reviewed, and the relationship between compositions and electrochemical performance is discussed. It is expected that this review can be helpful for the future development of related MOF-based materials with excellent electrochemical performance.Kexin Zhang Wenhan Guo Zibin Liang Ruqiang Zou 2019Science China Chemistry2019,62,4:6
7Towards maximized utilization of iridium for the acidic oxygen evolution reaction显示文摘The reduction in noble metal content for efficient oxygen evolution catalysis is a crucial aspect towards the large scale commercialisation of polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyzers.Since catalytic stability and activity are inversely related, long service lifetime still demands large amounts of low-abundant and expensive iridium. In this manuscript we elaborate on the concept of maximizing the utilisation of iridium for the oxygen evolution reaction.By combining different tin oxide based support materials with liquid atomic layer deposition of iridium oxide, new possibilities are opened up to grow thin layers of iridium oxide with tuneable noble metal amounts.In-situ,time-and potential-resolved dissolution experiments reveal how the stability of the substrate and the catalyst layer thickness directly affect the activity and stability of deposited iridium oxide.Based on our results,we elaborate on strategies how to obtain stable and active catalysts with maximized iridium utilisation for the oxygen evolution reaction and demonstrate how the activity and durability can be tailored correspondingly. Our results highlight the potential of utilizing thin noble metal films with earth abundant support.materials for future catalytic applications in the energy sector.Marc Ledendecker Simon Geiger Katharina Hengge Joohyun Lim Serhiy Cherevko Andrea M. 8Template-free synthesis of three-dimensional NiFe-LDH hollow microsphere with enhanced OER performance in alkaline media显示文摘Flower-like hierarchical three-dimensional Ni Fe layered double hydroxides hollow microspheres(3D NiFe-LDH HMS),as one kind of novel non-noble metal electrocatalysts, have been fabricated in a templatefree route for water oxidation. Both of the concentration of ammonium fluoride and the reaction time are adjusted to obtain a series of Ni Fe-LDH microspheres, with different internal structures from massive to hollow generated during the hydrothermal treatment, which improve the electrocatalytic activity of the Ni Fe-LDH catalysts towards the evolution reaction of oxygen. The optimized Ni Fe-LDH-0.4M HMS show the excellent OER performance in alkaline electrolyte withη=290 mV@10 mA cm^-2,and a Tafel slope of 51 mV dec-1,which outperforms the benchmark RuO2 catalyst. The possible reason is attributed to the more exposure of active sites, and fast ion transport resulting from the hierarchical hollow structure.Haihong Zhong Tongyuan Liu Shuwei Zhang Dianqing Li Pinggui Tang Nicolas Alonso-Vante Yongjun Feng 2019Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,6:5

10Single-crystalline layered double hydroxides with rich defects and hierarchical structure by mild reduction for enhancing the oxygen evolution reaction显示文摘The oxygen evolution reaction(OER)with sluggish reaction kinetics and large overpotential is the critical reaction in water splitting that is promising for energy storage and conversion.Layered double hydroxides(LDHs),due to their unique lamellar structure and flexibility of chemical component, are very competing material candidates for OER.Herein, the morphology structure and the electronic structure of LDHs were simultaneously tuned to improve the OER catalytic activity by mild solvothermal reduction using ethylene glycol. The increased surface area, the introduction of oxygen vacancies and the construction of hierarchical structure greatly enhanced the electro-catalytic activity of LDHs for OER.The as-prepared LDHs showed a lower over-potential as low as 276 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm-2,and a small Tafel slope of 40.3 mV dec-1 accompanied with good stability. This work provides an efficient way to the design and optimization of advanced catalysts in the future.Peng Zhou Junying He Yuqin Zou Yanyong Wang Chao Xie Ru Chen Shuangquan Zang Shuangyin Wang 2019Science China Chemistry2019,62,10:5
11Direct synthesis of L10-FePt nanopartides from single-source bimetallic complex and their electrocatalytic applications in oxygen reduction and hydrogen evolution reactions显示文摘L10-FePt nan oparticles(NPs)with high chemical ordering represent effective electrocatalysts to reduce the cost and enhance theircatalytic performanee in fuel cells.A molecular strategy of preparing highly ordered FePt NPs was used by direct pyrolysis of a Fe,Pt-containing bimetallic complex. The resultant L10-FePt NPs had very high crystallinity as reflected by the obvious diffractionpatterns, clear lattice fringes and characteristic X-ray diffraction peaks, etc.Besides, the strong ferromagnetism with room temperaturecoercivity of 27 kOe further confirmed the face-centered tetrag on al(fet)phase in good agreement with the ordered nano structures.TheFePt NPs can be used as electrocatalysts to catalyze oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)in an O2·saturated 0.1 M HClO4 solution andhydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in the 0.5 M H2SO4 electrolyte with much better performance than commercial Pt/C,and showedquite high stability after 10,000 cycles. The strategy utilizing orga no metallic precursors to prepare metal alloy NPs was dem on strated tobe a reliable approach for improving the catalytic efficiency in fuel cells.Zhengong Meng Fei Xiao Zhuoxun Wei Xuyun Guo Ye Zhu Yurong Liu Guijun Li Zhen-Qiang Yu Minhua Shao Wai-Yeung Wong 2019Nano Research2019,12,12:5
12Ternary mesoporous cobalt-iron-nickel oxide efficiently catalyzing oxygen/hydrogen evolution reactions and overall water splitting显示文摘Among various efficient electrocatalysts for water splitting,CoFe and NiFe-based oxides/hydroxides are typically promising candidates thanks to their extraordinary activities towards oxygen evolution reaction (OER).However, the endeavor to advance their performance towards overall water splitting has been largely impeded by the limited activities for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).Herein,we present a CoFeNi ternary metal-based oxide (CoFeNi-O) with impressive hierarchical bimodal channel nanostructures, which was synthesized via a facile one-step dealloying strategy. The oxide shows superior catalytic activities towards both HER and OER in alkaline solution due to the alloying effect and the intrinsic hierarchical porous structure.CoFeNi-O loaded on glass carbon electrodes only requires the overpotentials as low as 230 and 278 mV to achieve the OER current densities of 10 and 100 mA·cm-2,respectively.In particular, extremely low overpotentials of 200 and 57.9 mV are sufficient enough for Ni foam-supported CoFeNi-O to drive the current density of 10 mA·cm-2 towards OER and HER respectively, which is comparable with or even better than the already-developed state-of-the-art non-noble metal oxide based catalysts.Benefiting from the bifunctionalities of CoFeNi-O,an alkaline electrolyzer constructed by the Ni foam-supported CoFeNi-O electrodes as both the anode and the cathode can deliver a current density of 10 mA·cm-2 at a fairly low cell-voltage of 1.558 V.In view of its electrocatalytic merits together with the facile and cost-effective dealloying route,CoFeNi-O is envisioned as a promising catalyst for future production of sustainable energy resources.Lulu Han Limin Guo Chaoqun Dong Chi Zhang Hui Gao Jiazheng Niu Zhangquan Peng Zhonghua Zhang 2019Nano Research2019,12,9:5
13Co3O4 modified Ag/g-C3N4 composite as a bifunctional cathode for lithium-oxygen battery显示文摘Rechargeable lithium-oxygen(Li-O2)batteries have appeal to enormous attention because they demonstrate higher energy density than the state-of-the-art Li-ion batteries.Whereas, their practical application is impeded by several challenging problems, such as the low energy round trip efficiencies and the insufficient cycle life, due to the cathode passivation caused by the accumulation of discharge products.Developing efficient catalyst for oxygen reduction and evolution reactions is effective to reduce the overpotentials in Li-O2cells.In our work,we report a Co3O4modified Ag/g-C3N4nanocomposite as a bifunctional cathode catalyst for Li-O2cells.The g-C3N4substrate prevents the accumulation of Ag and Co3O4nanoparticles and the presence of Ag NPs improves the surface area of g-C3N4and electronic conductivity, significantly improving the oxygen reduction/evolution capabilities of Co3O4.Due to a synergetic effect, the Ag/g-C3N4/Co3O4nanocomposite demonstrates a higher catalytic activity than each individual constituent of Co3O4or Ag/g-C3N4for the ORR/OER on as catalysts in Li-O2cells.As a result, the Ag/gC3N4/Co3O4composite shows impressive electrochemical performance in a Li-O2battery,including high discharge capacity, small gap between charge and discharge potential, and high cycling stability.Qi Guo Chenwei Zhang Chaofeng Zhang Sen Xin Pengchao Zhang Qiufan Shi Dawei Zhang Ya You 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,2:4

15Ternary NiCoFe-layered double hydroxide hollow polyhedrons as highly efficient electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction显示文摘With exhaustion of fossil fuels and the deterioration of global environment, widespread and intensive researches have been concentrated on clean and sustainable alternative energy sources, such as metal-air batteries[1],fuel cells[2]and water splitting devices[3].Electrocatalytic oxidation of water to O2(oxygen evolution reaction,OER)is a vital chemical process involved in energy storage and conversion from renewable sources in form of molecular fuels such as H2 via water electrolysis, which has attracted a great amount of research efforts in the past few years[4,5].Nowadays,RuO2 and IrO2 are widely used as typical excellent OER electrocatalysts. However, their high-cost and scarce nature restricts the broadly commercial application of those materials[6,7].Hence,there is an urgent demand to develop low cost, highly efficient, and superb stable OER catalysts.Yongji Qin Fanping Wang Jing Shang Muzaffar Iqbal Aijuan Han Xiaoming Sun Haijun Xu Junfeng Liu 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,4:4
16Bifunctional Oxygen Electrocatalyst of Mesoporous Ni/NiO Nanosheets for Flexible Rechargeable Zn–Air Batteries显示文摘One approach to accelerate the stagnant kinetics of both the oxygen reduction and evolution reactions(ORR/OER)is to develop a rationally designed multiphase nanocomposite, where the functions arising from each of the constituent phases, their interfaces, and the overall structure are properly controlled.Herein,we successfully synthesized an oxygen electrocatalyst consisting of Ni nanoparticles purposely interpenetrated into mesoporous NiO nanosheets(porous Ni/NiO).Benefiting from the contributions of the Ni and NiO phases, the well-established pore channels for charge transport at the interface between the phases, and the enhanced conductivity due to oxygen-deficiency at the pore edges, the porous Ni/NiO nanosheets show a potential of 1.49 V(10 mA cm^-2)for the OER and a half-wave potential of 0.76 V for the ORR,outperforming their noble metal counterparts.More significantly,a Zn-air battery employing the porous Ni/NiO nanosheets exhibits an initial charging-discharging voltage gap of 0.83 V(2 mA cm^-2),specific capacity of 853 mAh gZn^-1 at 20 mA cm^-2,and long-time cycling stability(120 h).In addition, the porous Ni/NiO-based solid-like Zn-air battery shows excellent electrochemical performance and flexibility, illustrating its great potential as a next-generation rechargeable power source for flexible electronics.Peitao Liu Jiaqi Ran Baorui Xia Shibo Xi Daqiang Gao John Wang 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,5:4
17Heptanuclear brucite disk with cyanide bridges in a cocrystal and tracking its pyrolysis to an efficient oxygen evolution electrode显示文摘The development of efficient oxygen evolution reaction(OER)catalysts is still lacking in exploration of the mechanism of controlled pyrolysis of precursors among new material platforms. Here,a novel Co-based coordination molecular cluster has been first introduced as precursor to obtain metallic cobalt core shelled by N-doped carbon(Co@NC)structure which operates as an oxygen evolution electrode.Specifically,a new cocrystal compound,[Co7II(l3-CN)6(mmimp)6][CoIICl3N(CN)2]á3CH3OH(Co7+1,mmimp=2-methoxy-6-((methylimino)-methyl)phenol),was isolated consisting of Brucite disks of cobalt where the usual bridging l3-OH is replaced by l3-CN produced by the in-situ decomposition of dicyanamide(NC-N-CNà).The cobalt atoms are bonded through the nitrogen atom of the cyanide.Remarkably, time dependent thermogravimetric-mass spectrometry(TG-MS)analysis was utilized to track its pyrolysis process. It allowed us to propose a possible formation process of the Co@NC structure from Co7+1.Interestingly,an extremely superior OER electrode is optimized for Co@NC-600 having the lowest overpotential of257 m V at 10 m A/cm2in 1 mol/L KOH solution. The present study pins down the importance of clusters of transition metals on realizing distinct nanostructures operating as highly efficient OER electrocatalyst.Jian-Qiang Zhao Dandan Cai Jun Dai Mohamedally Kurmoo Xu Peng Ming-Hua Zeng 2019Science Bulletin2019,64,22:4
18Hollow cobalt oxide nanoparticles embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon nanosheets as an efficient bifunctional catalyst for Zn–air battery显示文摘Rational design of low-cost, highly electrocatalytic activity, and stable bifunctional electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction(OER) has been a great significant for metal–air batteries. Herein, an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst based on hollow cobalt oxide nanoparticles embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon nanosheets(Co/N-Pg) is fabricated for Zn–air batteries. A lowcost biomass peach gum, consisting of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen without other heteroatoms, was used as carbon source to form carbon matrix hosting hollow cobalt oxide nanoparticles. Meanwhile, the melamine was applied as nitrogen source and template precursor, which can convert to carbon-based template graphitic carbon nitride by polycondensation process. Owing to the unique structure and synergistic effect between hollow cobalt oxide nanoparticles and Co-N-C species, the proposal Co/N-Pg catalyst displays not only prominent bifunctional electrocatalytic activities for ORR and OER, but also excellent durability. Remarkably, the assembled Zn–air battery with Co/N-Pg air electrode exhibited a low discharge-charge voltage gap(0.81 V at 50 mA cm^-2) and high peak power density(119 mW cm^-2) with long-term cycling stability. This work presents an effective approach for engineering transition metal oxides and nitrogen modified carbon nanosheets to boost the performance of bifunctional electrocatalysts for Zn–air battery.Yuhui Tian Li Xu Jian Bao Junchao Qian Huaneng Su Huaming Li Haidong Gu Cheng Yan Henan Li 2019Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,6:4
19Room-temperature ligancy engineering of perovskite electrocatalyst for enhanced electrochemical water oxidation显示文摘Perovskite oxides are significant candidates to develop electrochemical catalysts for water oxidation in consideration of their high catalysis capacity, low costing and excellent stability.Rational design of coordination structure and overcoming poor electronic transport are regarded as critical factors for outstanding perovskite-based oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts.Herein,we report a mild chemical oxidation method to realize ligancy engineering from strongly-correlated brownmillerite Sr2Co2O5 to perovskite phase Sr2Co2O5.5,along with abundant oxygen vacancies formation and greatly boosted electric conductivity, which helps to form the active species of Co hydroxide/oxide on the surface of catalysts. The coupling effect of catalytic kinetics and unimpeded electronic movement brings high OER activities in Sr2Co2O5.5 with a low onset potential and a small Tafel slope. Our work not only displays in-depth understanding into the relationship among catalysis performance and multiple physical degrees of freedom, but also paves a new path to develop high-efficient electrochemical catalysts.Junchi Wu Yuqiao Guo Haifeng Liu Jiyin Zhao Haodong Zhou Wangsheng Chu Changzheng Wu 2019Nano Research2019,12,9:4
20Improving the performance of solid oxide electrolysis cell with gold nanoparticles-modified LSM-YSZ anode显示文摘Gold, as the common current collector in solid oxide electrolysis cell(SOEC), is traditionally considered to be inert for oxygen evolution reaction at the anode of SOEC. Herein, gold nanoparticles were loaded onto conventional strontium doped lanthanum manganite-yttria stabilized zirconia(LSM-YSZ) anode, which evidently improved the performance of oxygen evolution reaction at 800 °C. The current densities at 1.2 V and 1.4 V increased by 60.0% and 46.9%, respectively, after loading gold nanoparticles onto the LSM-YSZ anode. Physicochemical characterizations and electrochemical measurements suggested that the improved SOEC performance was attributed to the accelerated electron transfer of elementary process in anodic polarization reaction and the newly generated triple phase boundaries in gold nanoparticles-loaded LSMYSZ anode.Yuefeng Song Xiaomin Zhang Yingjie Zhou Houfu Lv Qingxue Liu Weicheng Feng Guoxiong Wang Xinhe Bao 2019Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,8:4
