| 1 | The incidence of oxygen desaturation during rapid sequence induction and intubation显示文摘BACKGROUND: Rapid sequence induction and intubation(RSII) is an emergency airway management technique for patients with a risk of pulmonary aspiration. It involves preoxygenation, administration of predetermined doses of induction and paralytic drugs, avoidance of mask ventilation, and laryngoscopy followed by tracheal intubation and keeping cricoid pressure applied till endotracheal tube cuff be inflated. Oxygen desaturation has been seen during RSII. We assessed the incidence of oxygen desaturation during RSII.METHODS: An institution-based observational study was conducted from March 3 to May 4, 2014 in our hospital. All patients who were operated upon under general anesthesia with RSII during the study period were included. A checklist was prepared for data collection.RESULTS: A total of 153 patients were included in this study with a response rate of 91.6%. Appropriate drugs for RSII, equipments for RSII, equipments for diffi cult intubation, suction machine with a catheter, a monitor and an oxygen backup such as ambu bag were not prepared for 41(26.8%), 50(32.7%), 51(33.3%), 38(24.8%) and 25(16.3%) patients respectively. Cricoid pressure was not applied at all for 17(11.1%) patients and 53(34.6%) patients were ventilated after induction of anesthesia but before intubation and endotracheal cuff inflation. A total of 55(35.9%) patients desaturated during RSII(SPO2<95%). The minimum, maximum and mean oxygen desaturations were 26%, 94% and 70.9% respectively. The oxygen desaturation was in the range of <50%, 50%–64%, 65%–74%, 75%–84%, 85%–89 % and 90%–94% for 6(3.9%), 7(4.6%), 5(3.3%), 10(6.5%), 13(8.5%) and 14(9.2%) patients respectively.CONCLUSION: The incidence of oxygen desaturation during RSII was high in our hospital. | 7 | Blinding trachoma among refugees:complicating social disaster显示文摘Objective:To determine the prevalence of blinding trachoma among refugees in South Western Ethiopia.Methods:A cross-sectional outreach clinic based descriptive study was conducted on 1054 refugees in Southwest Ethiopia.A basic eyelid and cornea examination for signs of trachoma was done by using 2.5× binocular magnifying loupe.The findings were classified by using the World Health Digitization simplified trachoma grading system and data were analyzed by using SPSS version 16.0.Results:A total of 1054 refugee patients were examined for trachoma.179(16.98%) of them had clinical signs of trachoma.About 6(3.35%) patients had active trachoma with trachomatous trichiasis(TT),47(26.26%) patients had TT only and the rest 126(70.39%)patients had TT with trachomatous corneal opacity.All of the trachoma patients had blinding trachoma(TT with or without trachomatous corneal opacity),and about 60.89% of them had visual impairment.Blinding trachoma was significantly more common among females.patients in age group of 16-59 years,married patients,illiterates and Fugnido camp settlers(P<0.05).Conclusions:There is a very high burden of blinding trachoma among refugees.Urgent surgical intervention is needed to prevent blindness and low vision in the study subjects,and targeted regular outreach-based eye care service should be commenced. | Yeshigeta Gelaw Aemero Abateneh | 2015 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2015，5，2： | 0 |
| 8 | Digitalization of Hirut1,the First Ethiopian Fiction Film and Addis Ababa International Film Festival显示文摘In film festivals Purpose of digitalized works especially screening works are at the basic of changes resulting from the development of digital technology and information society.Film screening mediums radically changed the way of traditional film making processes such as producing,distributing,and archiving.Digitization is the second most relevant change in cinema history.It replaces conventional 35 mm film and projectors with computer workstations and high resolution electronic video projectors.It has introduced the Computer Generated Imaginary(CGI).Digital media affects all stages of communication,including acquisition,manipulating,storage,and distribution,but the computer media revolution also affects all types of media text,still images,moving images,sound,and spatial constructions(Manovich,2002,p.43).Ethiopian film producers slowly started to digitalize DVD formats of production.Who does this Digitalization of Hirut(2020)do?And what is the fat of AAIFF 2020?This paper seeks to address these issues.Hirut was released on DVD in March 1964 and digitalized in 2021 in the screening of the first Addis Ababa film festival.The pioneer film and theatre directors,Addis Ababa city cinema hall administers,prominent film producers,and young film scholars participate in the Digitalization of Hirut(2020).It is there most recent contribution in digitalizing process in the history of the first Ethiopian film in Addis film festival.The author of this article used primary and secondary data.In addition to this,he directly participated in the digitalization process and presented his ongoing Ph.D.desertion project which is directly related to film digitalization.For film festivals in the AAIFF film festivals so he used participation method to investigate the data.Finally,he found that digitalization of films and government owned film festivals in Ethiopia give green light in the archiving and development of film industry in Ethiopia. | Paulos Aemero Aboneh Ashagrie | 2023 | Cultural and Religious Studies2023，11，3： | 0 |
| 9 | Identification of chloroquine resistance Pfcrt-K76T and determination of Pfmdr1-N86Y copy number by SYBR Green I qPCR显示文摘Objective:To identify prevalence of chloroquine resistance point mutation at(Pfcrt,K76T)and(Pfindr1.N86Y) copy number variation.Methods:SYBR Green I based real time PCR was used.One hundred and thirty-three samples were analyzed for(Pfcrt,K76T) and(Pfmdr1.N86Y) copy number from dried blood spot.Parasite DNA was extracted using high pure DNA preparation kit.The amplification of DNA was done by using AccuPower 2* GreenStar '' qPCR Master mix.For quantification purpose a new primer pair was designed for 178 base pair template from complete genome sequence of Plasmodium falciparum strain 3D7 at NCBI.Absolute quantification method was used to determine the Pfmdr1-N86 Y copy number variations.Standard curve was built from strain3D7 gDNA since it has single copy of Pfindr1 per haploid genome.The known positive controls with single and multi-copy number of Pfindr1 gene were included in each experiment.The copy number ratio of the samples to the standard calibrator was made to obtain the fold difference among the samples with respect to copy number variation.Results:Out of 133 samples 73(54.89%) were confirmed as mutant(Pfcrt,76T) and the remaining 60(45.11%) were genotyped as wild type(Pfcrt,K76).The(Pfindr1.N86Y) copy number variation was determined for 133 clinical samples.Out of these samples 61(45.86%)had single copy and the remaining 72(54.14%) had multi-copy numbers higher than 1.5 copies per genome.Thirty-four(25.56%) multi-copies were between 1.5 and 2.5 copies per genome while 38(28.57%) were more than 2.5 copies per genome.The minimum and maximum copies per genome were 0.474 and 4.741.respectively.Conclusions:The study showed high prevalence level and fixation of Pfcrt.76 T mutation after chloroquine withdrawal.The prevalence of Pfindr1 copy number variant suggested that the presence of modulating factor for emergence of Plasmodium falciparum strains with higher copy numbers.However,the prevalence level was not statistically significant. | Addimas Tajebe Mulugeta Aemero Kimani Francis Gabriel Magoma | 2015 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2015，5，3： | 0 |
