| 1 | Potato Responds to Salt Stress by Increased Activity of Antioxidant Enzymes显示文摘To understand the response of potato to salt stress, antioxidant enzyme activities and ion content were analyzed for a sensitive and a tolerant cultivar. Nodal cuttings of the tolerant cultivar, Kennebec, and the sensitive cultivar, Concord, were exposed to media without or with 30, 60, 90 or 120 mmol/L NaCl for 4 weeks. On exposure to NaCl, the length and fresh and dry weight of both shoots and roots of Concord showed greater decrease than those of Kennebec. The decrease in shoot growth was more severe than that of the root for both cultivars. The K+ content of shoots and roots of both cultivars was reduced in a dose-dependent manner by exposure to NaCl; the Na+ content increased. Activities of ascorbate peroxidase, catalase and glutathione reductase were increased in NaCl-exposed shoots of Kennebec; the corresponding activities in NaCl-exposed shoots of Concord were decreased. Roots of both cultivars showed similar changes in the activities of these enzymes on exposure to NaCl. These studies established that enzyme activities in Concord shoots are inversely related to the NaCl concentration, whereas those in Kennebec do not show a dose dependency, which is also the case for the roots of both cultivars. | 2 | Experimental and numerical investigation of design optimization of a partial admitted supersonic turbine显示文摘To obtain a high specific work output,the large pressure ratios across the turbine are required.This can be achieved using a supersonic turbine.When the fluid mass flow is low,the impulse kind of one or two stages supersonic turbine is employed.To prevent losses due to low blade aspect ratio and issues related to manufacturing and industrial problems,the turbine is used in partial admission conditions.Studies show that the turbine efficiency is highly dependent on the amount of partial admission coefficient.The turbine efficiency in full admission is high,but the use of partial admission lowers the additional losses.Therefore,there will be a degree of partial admission in which the turbine will have the highest efficiency.The aim of this work is to achieve the optimum partial admission for a special impulse turbine as a case study.Therefore,in the beginning,an appropriate model of losses is presented.Then,using a nonlinear design optimization code,the partial admission of an impulse supersonic turbine is optimized.This code is written using a genetic algorithm.Then,using three-dimensional numerical analysis,the optimal model will be selected.In the optimization problem,the turbine efficiency is the objective function.The amount of design parameters and constraints used in this process are ten and eight,respectively.After the optimization process,prototypes of designed and modified turbines are made and tested.Test results were compared and analyzed.The results showed that the turbine efficiency is improved between 2.5%and 3%depending on various operation conditions. | Reza Aghaei tog Abolghasem M.Tousin | 2013 | Propulsion and Power Research2013,2,1: | 5 |
| 3 | Pentoxifylline in hepatopulmonary syndrome显示文摘AIM:To determine the effects of pentoxifylline(PTX) on clinical manifestations and evaluate arterial blood gas data in hepatopulmonary syndrome(HPS) in children.METHODS:In a pilot study of 10 children with chronic liver disease,who had HPS,20 mg/kg/d PTX was administered for 3 mo.Clinical data and arterial blood gas parameters were evaluated at baseline,the end of the treatment period,and 3 mo after drug discontinuation.RESULTS:Six patients could tolerate PTX,while four patients experienced complications.Among patients who could tolerate PTX,there was a significant increase in arterial oxygen pressure(PaO 2)(P = 0.02) and oxygen saturation(SaO 2)(P = 0.04) and alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient(P = 0.02) after 3 mo of treatment.Significant decreases in PaO 2(P = 0.02) and alveolararterial oxygen gradient(P = 0.02) were also seen after drug discontinuation.CONCLUSION:PTX may improve PaO 2,SaO 2 and alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient in the early stage of HPS. | Hamid Reza Kianifar Maryam Khalesi Eftekhar Mahmoodi Monavar Afzal Aghaei | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,35: | 4 |
| 4 | Facile synthesis, morphology and structure of Dy_2O_3 nanoparticles through electrochemical precipitation显示文摘The aim of this research was to introduce a new, facile and simple method for synthesis of Dy_2O_3 nanostructures at room temperature. For the first time,galvanostatic electrodeposition was used to synthesize Dy_2O_3 particles, and the influence of the current density on the structure and morphology of the product was studied.The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET). The results show that the current density has little effect on the chemical composition but great effect on the structure and morphology of the samples. The average size of the particles decreases as the applied current density increases. The grain size of asprepared samples decreases from 500 to 70 nm when the current density increases from 0.5 to 6.0 mA·cm^(-2). To obtain oxide product, the as-prepared samples were heattreated at 1,000 °C. The results show that the heat-treated samples have smaller particles. The XRD results show that the similar patterns are observed in the samples synthesized at different current densities, and the only difference from the JCPDS card is the ratio of peak intensities.
