| 1 | Ecosystem health towards sustainability显示文摘Ecosystems are becoming damaged or degraded as a result of stresses especially associated with human activities.A healthy ecosystem is essential to provide the services that humans and the natural environment require and has tremendous social and economic value.Exploration of the definition of ecosystem health includes what constitutes health and what it means to be healthy.To evaluate ecosystem health,it is necessary to quantify ecosystem conditions using a variety of indicators.In this paper,the main principles and criteria for indicator selection,classification of indicators for different kinds of ecosystems,the most appropriate indicators for measuring ecosystem sustainability,and various methods and models for the assessment of ecosystem health are presented.Drivers,sustainability,and resilience are considered to be critical factors for ecosystem health and its assessment.Effective integration of ecological understanding with socioeconomic,biophysical,biogeochemical,and public-policy dimensions is still the primary challenge in this field,and devising workable strategies to achieve and maintain ecosystem health is a key future challenge. | Yonglong Lu Ruoshi Wang Yueqing Zhang Hongqiao Su Pei Wang Alan Jenkins Rober C.Ferrier Mark Bailey Geoff Squire | 2015 | Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2015,1,1: | 3 |
| 2 | Numerical analysis and capacity evaluation of composite sprayed concrete lined tunnels显示文摘Spray-applied membranes for waterproofing of sprayed concrete tunnels have led to the possibility of shear transfer between primary and secondary linings through the membrane interface,with the potential for reducing overall lining thickness.Laboratory tests have shown a reasonable degree of composite action in beam specimens.In this study,a numerical model previously calibrated against such tests is applied to a whole tunnel,considering soil–structure interaction and staged lining construction.The model shows composite action,and load sharing between the lining layers is expected in the tunnel as in the beams.Parametric studies over the practical range of interface stiffness values show that composite action is maintained,although at high interface stiffness,excessive bending may be imposed on the secondary lining,requiring additional reinforcement.An effcient composite shell design with minimal additional rein-forcement is achievable if the secondary lining thickness is reduced as compared to current practice.Robustness of the system,measured in terms of the interface’s ability to transfer stress under unequal loading causing distortion on the tunnel,is found to be generally ade-quate.However,adjacent construction in close proximity may provide insuffcient margin on membrane tensile de-bonding,particularly if the membrane is partially or fully saturated. | Alan Bloodworth Jiang Su | 2018 | Underground Space2018,3,2: | 2 |

| 4 | Functionality of dietary antimicrobial peptides in aquatic animal health:Multiple meta-analyses显示文摘Effects of antimicrobial peptides(AMP)added to diets on aquatic animal health and body function are influenced by multiple factors such as animal species,initial body weight,the dosage of AMP and feeding duration.However,there is limited knowledge on the relationship between these factors and the body function of aquatic animals.Here,we aimed to perform multiple meta-analyses to investigate the effects of dietary AMP on growth performance(feed conversion ratio[FCR],specific growth rate[SGR]),enzyme activity(superoxide dismutase activity[SOD],lysozyme activity[LSA]),disease resistance(cumulative survival rate[CSR],the expression of immune-related genes[GENE])and the abundance of gut microbiota(MICRO)from a pool of empirical studies.Additionally,the dose-effect model was applied to determine the optimal AMP dose,initial body weight and feeding duration to maximize body function.To conduct the meta-analyses,we included 34 publications that estimated 705 effect sizes across 21 fish,2 shrimp and 2 shellfish species.The results confirmed that the inclusion of AMP in the diet can significantly improve SGR,SOD,LSA,CSR and GENE and decrease FCR for aquatic animals.Interestingly,our findings implied a slight positive effect of AMP on MICRO albeit with a limited number of studies available on fish gut microbial communities.Although no significant linear or quadratic relationship was predicted by meta-regression,the dose-effect indicated that the optimal AMP doses for FCR,SGR,SOD and LSA were 707.5,750.0,1,050.0 and 937.5 mg/kg,respectively.Taken together,fish with an initial body weight of 30 g could be fed with a dose of 600 to 800 mg/kg for 2 mo when AMP-supplemented diets were applied in aquaculture,which can effectively improve body function and health while lowering aquafeed costs.In addition,more studies should address fish gut microbiota to delimitate the influence of dietary AMP on MICRO in the future. | Jinhai Wang Alan E.Wilson Baofeng Su Rex A.Dunham | 2023 | Animal Nutrition2023,,1: | 2 |
