| 1 | Levels and trends of poly-and perfluoroalkyl substances in the Arctic environment-An update显示文摘Poly-and perfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs)are important environmental contaminants globally and in the early 2000s they were shown to be ubiquitous contaminants in Arctic wildlife.Previous reviews by Butt et al.and Letcher et al.have covered studies on levels and trends of PFASs in the Arctic that were available to 2009.The purpose of this review is to focus on more recent work,generally published between 2009 and 2018,with emphasis on PFASs of emerging concern such as perfluoroalkyl carboxylates(PFCAs)and short-chain perfluoroalkyl sulfonates(PFSAs)and their precursors.Atmospheric measurements over the period 2006e2014 have shown that fluorotelomer alcohols(FTOHs)as well as perfluorobutanoic acid(PFBA)and perfluoroctanoic acid(PFOA)are the most prominent PFASs in the arctic atmosphere,all with increasing concentrations at Alert although PFOA concentrations declined at the Zeppelin Station(Svalbard).Results from ice cores show generally increasing deposition of PFCAs on the Devon Ice cap in the Canadian arctic while declining fluxes were found in a glacier on Svalbard.An extensive dataset exists for long-term trends of long-chain PFCAs that have been reported in Arctic biota with some datasets including archived samples from the 1970s and 1980s.Trends in PFCAs over time vary among the same species across the North American Arctic,East and West Greenland,and Svalbard.Most long term time series show a decline from higher concentrations in the early 2000s.However there have been recent(post 2010)increasing trends of PFCAs in ringed seals in the Canadian Arctic,East Greenland polar bears and in arctic foxes in Svalbard.Annual biological sampling is helping to determine these relatively short term changes.Rising levels of some PFCAs have been explained by continued emissions of long-chain PFCAs and/or their precursors and inflows to the Arctic Ocean,especially from the North Atlantic.While the effectiveness of biological sampling for temporal trends in long-chain PFCAs and PFSAs has been demonstrated,this does not apply to the C4eC8ePFCAs,perfluorobutane sulfonamide(FBSA),or perfluorobutane sulfonate(PFBS)which are generally present at low concentrations in biota.In addition to air sampling,sampling abiotic media such as glacial cores,and annual sampling of lake waters and seawater would appear to be the best approaches for investigating trends in the less bioaccumulative PFASs. | Derek Muir Rossana Bossi Pernilla Carlsson Marlene Evans Amila De Silva Crispin Halsall Cassandra Rauert Dorte Herzke Hayley Hung Robert Letcher Frank Riget Anna Roos | 2019 | Emerging Contaminants2019,5,1: | 3 |

| 10 | Co-contaminants of microplastics in two seabird species from the Canadian Arctic显示文摘Through ingestion and subsequent egestion,Arctic seabirds can bioaccumulate microplastics at and around their colony breeding sites.While microplastics in Arctic seabirds have been well documented,it is not yet understood to what extent these particles can act as transport vehicles for plastic-associated contaminants,including legacy persistent organic pollutants(POPs),trace metals,and organic additives.We investigated the occurrence and pattern of organic and inorganic co-contaminants of microplastics in two seabird species from the Canadian Arctic-northern fulmar(Fulmarus glacialis)and black-legged kittiwake(Rissa tridactyla).We found that fulmars had higher levels of plastic contamination and emerging organic compounds(known to be plastic additives)than kittiwakes,whereas higher concentrations of legacy POPs were found in kittiwakes than the fulmars.Furthermore,fulmars,the species with the much larger foraging range(~200 km),had higher plastic pollution and overall contaminant burdens,indicating that birds may be acting as long-range transport vectors for plasticassociated pollution.Our results suggest a potential connection between plastic additive contamination and plastic pollution burdens in the bird stomachs,highlighting the importance of treating plastic particles and plastic-associated organic additives as co-contaminants rather than separate pollution issues. | Roxana Sühring Julia E.Baak Robert J.Letcher Birgit M.Braune Amila de Silva Cody Dey Kim Fernie Zhe Lu Mark L.Mallory Stephanie Avery-Gomm Jennifer F.Provencher | 2022 | Environmental Science and Ecotechnology2022,,4: | 0 |
| 11 | Application for developing countries:Estimating trip attraction in urban zones based on centrality显示文摘This paper introduced a network centrality-based method to estimate the volume of trip attraction in traffic analysis zones. Usually trip attraction volumes are estimated based on land use characteristics. However, executing of land use-based trip attraction models are severely constrained by the lack of updated land use data in developing countries. The proposed method used network centrality-based explanatory variables as 'connectivity','local integration' and 'global integration', Space syntax tools were used to compute the centrality of road segments. GIS-based kernel density estimation method was used to transform computed road segment-based centrality values into traffic analysis zone. Trip attraction values exhibited significant high correlation with connectivity, global and local integration values. The study developed and validated model to estimate trip attraction by using connectivity, local integration and global integration values as endogenous variables with an accepted level of accuracy(R^2 > 0.75). The proposed approach required minimal data, and it was easily executed using a geographic information system. | 17 | Phosphate mineral accumulation in lake sediment to form a secondary phosphate source: A case study in lake sediment around Eppawala Phosphate Deposit(EPD) in Sri Lanka显示文摘Global phosphorus scarcity will result in significant consequences for future food security with the depletion of current phosphate reserves.Therefore,exploration of new phosphorus sources is essential to address future phosphorus scarcity.The current study investigated the geochemical potential of lake sediment around the Eppawala Phosphate Deposit(EPD)in Sri Lanka to be used as a low-grade phosphorus source for agricultural purposes.Jaya-Ganga is a man-made water canal that drains through the EPD feeding three lakes,namely,upstream Ihalahalmilla Lake and Koon Lake,and downstream Kiralogama Lake with respect to the EPD.Three cores(cores A,B,and C)were collected from the above three lakes and major oxides and minerals distributions along the cores were analyzed.Notable high enrichment of phosphorus pentoxide(P2O5)content and high P2O5 solubility values were measured in the top 60 cm sediment layer in Core B and throughout the Core C compared to the Core A.This high enrichment of P2O5 content in the same sediment columns were confirmed by the comparison with the Upper Continental Crust(UCC)values and literature survey.According to the X-ray Diffraction(XRD)results,phosphate minerals,such as fluorapatite,crandallite,and millisite were abundantly found in the same sediment columns.Therefore,these phosphate minerals can be considered as pathfinding minerals for soluble phosphates in sediment cores.Thus,sediment with high P2O5 content and high solubility in downstream Kiralogama Lake showed the potential for application of these sediments as a direct phosphate source in agricultural purposes.Furthermore,the current study has introduced a new area of interest,i.e.,soil and sediments around major phosphate deposits,for the exploration of new phosphate sources to meet future phosphorus demand. | Nimila Dushyantha Nalin Ratnayake Hemalal Panagoda Chulantha Jayawardena Amila Sandaruwan Ratnayake | 2021 | International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,4: | 0 |
| 18 | Potency of Urena lobataleaves extract on the inhibition of hepatic complication on diabetic rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE To investigate the potency of Urena lobata leaves extract on the inhibition of hepatic complication on diabetic rats.METHODS This study uses control group post test only with male Sprague dawley rats.Diabetic rats was induced by high fructose diet(HFD)and single dose streptozotocin 25mg·kg-1 bw intra peritoneal.The rat was administrated orally with water extract of U.lobataleaves in concentrations of 250,500 and 1000mg·kg-1 bw for 4 weeks.After scarifying,liver organ and blood were collected and then superoxyde dismutase(SOD)hepar level,malondialdehyda(MDA),tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase(SGOT)and serum glutamic piruvic transaminase(SGPT)were examined.The data was analyzed using ANOVA test continued with LSD test(P<0,05).RESULTS The oral administration of U.lobataleaves extract 250,500 and 1000mg·kg-1 bw were able to increase SOD hepar level about 90%,100% and 120%respectively compared to diabetic group(P<0.05),while the MDA hepar level was decreased by 40%,50% and 70% respectively(P<0.05),whereas the TNF-αhepar level was decreased by 30%,50% and 70%respectively(P<0.05).The supplementation of water extract from U.lobatain dose of 250,500 and 1000mg·kg-1 bw decrease SGOT level approximately10%,30% and 50% compared to control group(P<0.05),while the SGPT level was decreased by 10%,20% and 40%respectively(P<0.05).In diabetic groups,SOD heparlevel was decreased compared to normal group(P<0.05)whereas the MDA and TNF-αwere increased(P<0.05).Meanwhile SGOT level and SGPT were increased in diabetic group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION U.lobataleaves extract could inhibit hepatic complication on diabetic rats by increasing of SOD hepar level,decreasing of MDA hepar level,TNF-α,SGOT and SGPT.This effect may be related to active compounds that act as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory in U.lobata extract. | Amila MUFIDA Rista Eka SUCIWULANSARI Karina WINDA BESSUFI Yudi PURNOMO | 2015 | 中国药理学与毒理学杂志2015,29,S1: | 0 |
