7On-Surface Synthesis of Anthracene-Fused Zigzag Graphene Nanoribbons from 2,7-Dibromo-9,9′-bianthryl Reveals Unexpected Ring Rearrangements显示文摘On-surface synthesis has emerged as a powerful strategy to fabricate unprecedented forms of atomically precise graphene nanoribbons(GNRs).However, the on-surface synthesis of zigzag GNRs(ZGNR)has met with only limited success.Herein,we report the synthesis and on-surface reactions of 2,7-dibromo-9,9′-bianthryl as the precursor towardπ-extended ZGNRs.Characterization by scanning tunneling microscopy and high-resolution noncontact atomic force microscopy clearly demonstrated the formation of anthracene-fused ZGNRs.Unique skeletal rearrangements were also observed, which could be explained by intramolecular Diels-Alder cycloaddition.Theoretical calculations of the electronic properties of the anthracene-fused ZGNRs revealed spin-polarized edge-states and a narrow bandgap of 0.20 eV.Xiushang Xu Amogh Kinikar Marco Di Giovannantonio Carlo A.Pignedoli Pascal Ruffieux Klaus Müllen Roman Fasel Akimitsu Narita 2024Precision Chemistry2024,2,2:0
8Comprehensive literature review on the radiographic findings, imaging modalities, and the role of radiology in the COVID-19 pandemic显示文摘Since the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,over 103214008 cases have been reported, with more than 2231158 deaths as of January 31,2021.Although the gold standard for diagnosis of this disease remains the reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction of nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs, its false-negative rates have ignited the use of medical imaging as an important adjunct or alternative.Medical imaging assists in identifying the pathogenesis, the degree of pulmonary damage, and the characteristic features in each imaging modality. This literature review collates the characteristic radiographic findings of COVID-19 in various imaging modalities while keeping the preliminary focus on chest radiography, computed tomography(CT),and ultrasound scans.Given the higher sensitivity and greater proficiency in detecting characteristic findings during the early stages,CT scans are more reliable in diagnosis and serve as a practical method in following up the disease time course. As research rapidly expands,we have emphasized the CO-RADS classification system as a tool to aid in communicating the likelihood of COVID-19 suspicion among healthcare workers.Additionally, the utilization of other scoring systems such as MuLBSTA,Radiological Assessment of Lung Edema, and Brixia in this pandemic are reviewed as they integrate the radiographic findings into an objective scoring system to risk stratify the patients and predict the severity of disease.Furthermore, current progress in the utilization of artificial intelligence via radiomics is evaluated.Lastly, the lesson from the first wave and preparation for the second wave from the point of view of radiology are summarized.Aman Pal Abulhassan Ali Timothy R Young Juan Oostenbrink Akul Prabhakar Amogh Prabhakar Nina Deacon Amar Arnold Ahmed Eltayeb Charles Yap David M Young Alan Tang Subramanian Lakshmanan Ying Yi Lim Martha Pokarowski Pramath Kakodkar 2021World Journal of Radiology2021,13,9:0
9Novel mitochondrial therapies for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration显示文摘The purpose of this article is to review current literature and data regarding treatment options for age-related macular degeneration(AMD)related to mitochondrial therapy. This article considers the presence of flavoprotein fluorescence as a potential biomarker to test the effectiveness of the treatments. We focus primarily on two major mitochondrial targets, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor(NFE2L2)and PGC-1α,that function in controlling the production and effects of reactive oxidative species(ROS)directly in the mitochondria.PU-91 is an FDA approved drug that directly targets and upregulates PGC-1αin AMD cybrid cell lines.Although neither NFE2L2 nor PGC1-αhave yet been tested in clinical trials, their effects have been studied in rodent models and offer promising results.MTP-131,or elamipretide®,and metformin are two drugs in phase II clinical trials that focus on the treatment of advanced,non-exudative AMD.MTP-131 functions by associating with cardiolipin(CL)whereas metformin targets adenosine-monophosphate protein kinase(AMPK)in the mitochondria. The current results of their clinical trials are elucidated in this article. The molecular targets and drugs reviewed in this article show promising results in the treatment of AMD.These targets can be further pursued to improve and refine treatment practices of this diagnosis.Aneesha Kalur Justin Muste Carolina C.S.Valentim Amogh Iyer Rishi P.Singh 2021Annals of Eye Science2021,,4:0
