1Bacteriocin from Bacillus subtilis as a novel drug against diabetic foot ulcer bacterial pathogens显示文摘Objective:To isolate and identify Bacillus subtilis(B.subtilis)from soil and to characterize and partially purify the bacteriocin.To evaluate the antimicrobial activity against four diabetic foot ulcer bacterial pathogens.Methods:Genotypic identification was done based on Sergey's manual of systemic bacteriology.Antimicrobial susceptibility test was done by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method.Colonies were identified by colony morphology and biochemical characterization and also compared with MTCC 121 strain.Further identification was done by 16S rRNA sequencing.Inhibitory activities of partially purified bacteriocin on all the DFU isolates were done by agar well diffusion method.The strain was identified to produce bacteriocin by stab overlay assay.Bacteriocin was extracted by organic solvent extraction using chloroform,further purified by HPI.C and physical,and chemical characterization was performed.Results:The four isolates showed high level of resistance to amoxyclav and sensitivity to ciprofloxacin.HPLC purification revealed that the extracts are bacteriocin.The phylogenetic tree analysis results showed that the isolate was 99%related to B.subtilis BSF01.The results reveled activity to all the four isolates and high level of activity was seen in case of Klebsiella sp.Conclusions:Partially purified bacteriocin was found to have antimicrobial activity against the four diabetic foot ulcer bacterial pathogens,which can thus be applied as a better drug molecule on further studies.The strain B.subtilis are found to be safe for use and these antimicrobial peptides can be used as an antimicrobial in humans to treat DFU bacterial pathogens.Baby Joseph Berlina Dhas Vimalin Hena Justin Raj 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,12:2

4Integrated sensing and delivery of oxygen for next- generation smart wound dressings显示文摘Chronic wounds affect over 6.5 million Americans and are notoriously difficult to treat.Suboptimal oxygenation of the wound bed is one of the most critical and treatable wound management factors,but existing oxygenation systems do not enable concurrent measurement and delivery of oxygen in a convenient wearable platform.Thus,we developed a low-cost alternative for continuous O 2 delivery and sensing comprising of an inexpensive,paper-based,biocompatible,flexible platform for locally generating and measuring oxygen in a wound region.The platform takes advantage of recent developments in the fabrication of flexible microsystems including the incorporation of paper as a substrate and the use of a scalable manufacturing technology,inkjet printing.Here,we demonstrate the functionality of the oxygenation patch,capable of increasing oxygen concentration in a gel substrate by 13%(5ppm)in 1h.The platform is able to sense oxygen in a range of 5–26 ppm.In vivo studies demonstrate the biocompatibility of the patch and its ability to double or triple the oxygen level in the wound bed to clinically relevant levels.Manuel Ochoa Rahim Rahimi Jiawei Zhou Hongjie Jiang Chang Keun Yoon Dinesh Maddipatla Binu Baby Narakathu Vaibhav Jain Mark Michael Oscai Thaddeus Joseph Morken Rebeca Hannah Oliveira Gonzalo L.Campana Oscar W.Cummings Michael A.Zieger Rajiv Sood Massood Z.Atashbar Babak Ziaie 2020Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1:0
