2Classical Ethylene Insensitive Mutants of the Arabidopsis EIN2 Orthologue Lack the Expected‘hypernodulation’ Response in Lotus japonicus显示文摘Three independent ethylene insensitive mutants were selected from an EMS-mutagenized population of Lotus japonicus MG-20 (Miyakojima). The mutants, called 'Enigma', were mutated in the LjEIN2a gene from Lotus chromosome 1, sharing significant homology with Arabidopsis EIN2 (ethylene-insensitive2). All three alleles showed classical ethylene insensitivity phenotypes (e.g., Triple Response), but lacked the increased nodulation phenotype commonly associated with ethylene insensitivity. Indeed, all showed a marginal reduction in nodule number per plant, a phenotype that is enigmatic to sickle, an ethylene-insensitive EIN2 mutant in Medicago truncatula. In contrast to wild type, but similar to an ETR1-1 ethylene ethylene-insensitive transgenic of L. japonicus, enigma mutants formed nodules in between the protoxylem poles, demonstrating the influence of ethylene on radial positioning. Suppression of nodule numbers by nitrate and colonisation by mycorrhizal fungi in the enigma-1 mutant were indistinguishable from the wild type MG-20. However, reflecting endogenous ethylene feedback, the enigma-1 mutant released more than twice the wild-type amount of ethylene. enigma-1 had a moderate reduction in growth, greater root mass (and lateral root formation), delayed flowering and ripening, smaller pods and seeds. Expression analysis of ethylene-regulated genes, such as ETR1, NRL1 (neverripe-like 1), and EIL3 in shoots and roots of enigma-1 and MG-20 illustrated that the ethylene-insensitive mutation strongly affected transcriptional responses in the root. These mutants open the possibility that EIN2 in L. japonicus, a determinate nodulating legume, acts in a more complex fashion possibly through the presence of a duplicated copy of LjEIN2.Pick Kuen Chan Bandana Biswas Peter M. 3Impact of land cover change on a mountain ecosystem and its services:case study from the Phobjikha valley,Bhutan显示文摘Introduction:Mountains occupy 24%of the global land surface and are home to 12%of the world’s population;they host the world’s principal biomes and supply a diverse array of ecosystem services.But they are also highly sensitive to both natural and human induced changes,which can affect service provision meant for one third of humanity.Systematic research on impacts of land cover change from mountains at the local scale are limited,especially in developing countries,which poses a barrier to informed planning for sustainable management.Bhutan being in the forefront as contributor towards global conservation goals,a case study following a systematic research framework considering quantitative,qualitative and geospatial tools was experimented.Outcome:Respondents identified and ranked 24 ecosystem services,among which the provisioning services were the most important,followed by cultural,regulating,and supporting services.Forest was the most important land cover type for services,followed by marsh,scrub,water bodies,and agriculture.The area of forest declined by 2%and marsh by 7%over the 32-year period,suggesting a potential decrease in ecosystem services,which was also observed by the local community.Discussion:It was observed that 80%of the local people are still directly dependent on the diverse ecosystems for services.Though subtle,the decrease in land cover has implications for livelihoods of the people and the rich biodiversity of the area.Aspiring communities for local development needs guidance for identifying trade-offs in land cover types in sustainable management.An integrated and holistic approach focusing on both conservation and community development should be used to manage and develop the valley and the region sustainably.Conclusion:We recommend diversifying the limited livelihood strategies(potato farming and livestock grazing)to reduce the potential vulnerability of the local community and reduce the pressure on forest and marsh.Proper land use planning in the valley would be beneficial to maintain and regulate land uses in an effective way and avoid possible conflicts between settlement,agriculture,forest,and marsh.Sunita Chaudhary Dago Tshering Tshering Phuntsho Kabir Uddin Bandana Shakya Nakul Chettri 2017Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2017,3,9:2

6Assessing relevance of tweets for risk communication显示文摘Although Twitter is used for emergency management activities,the relevance of tweets during a hazard event is still open to debate.In this study,six different computational(i.e.Natural Language Processing)and spatiotemporal analytical approaches were implemented to assess the relevance of risk information extracted from tweets obtained during the 2013 Colorado flood event.Primarily,tweets containing information about the flooding events and its impacts were analysed.Examination of the relationships between tweet volume and its content with precipitation amount,damage extent,and official reports revealed that relevant tweets provided information about the event and its impacts rather than any other risk information that public expects to receive via alert messages.However,only 14% of the geo-tagged tweets and only 0.06% of the total fire hose tweets were found to be relevant to the event.By providing insight into the quality of social media data and its usefulness to emergency management activities,this study contributes to the literature on quality of big data.Future research in this area would focus on assessing the reliability of relevant tweets for disaster related situational awareness.Xiaohui Liu Bandana Kar Chaoyang Zhang David M.Cochran 2019International Journal of Digital Earth2019,12,7:1

9Strength and dilatancy behaviors of deep sands in Shanghai with a focus on grain size and shape effect显示文摘With rapid development of infrastructures like tunnels and open excavations in Shanghai,investigations on deeper soils have become critically important.Most of the existing laboratory works were focused on the clayey strata up to Layer 6 in Shanghai,i.e.at depth of up to 40 m.In this paper,Layers 7,9,and 11,which were mostly formed of sandy soils at depth of up to 150 m,were experimentally investigated with respect to physico-mechanical behaviors.The stressestrain behaviors were analyzed by the consolidated drained/undrained(CD/CU)triaxial tests under monotonic loading.One-dimensional(1D)oedometer tests were performed to investigate the consolidation properties of the sandy soils.Specimens were prepared at three different relative densities for each layer.Also,the micro-images and particle size analyzers were used to analyze the shape and size of the sand grains.The influences of grain size,density,and angularity on the stressestrain behaviors and compressibility were also studied.Compared to the other layers,Layer 11 had the smallest mean grain size(D50),highest compressibility,and lowest shear strength.In contrast,Layer 9 had the largest mean grain size,lowest compressibility,and highest shear strength.Layer 7 was of intermediate mean grain size,exhibiting more compressibility and less shear strength than that of Layer 9.Also,the critical state parameters and maximum dilatancy rate of different layers were discussed.Bandana Tiwaria Guanlin Ye Mingguang Li Usama Khalid Santosh Kumar Yadav 2020Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2020,12,6:1

17Tracking temporal palynofloral changes close to Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary in Deccan volcanic associated sediments of eastern part of central Deccan volcanic province显示文摘Deccan volcanic sequences( DVS) in the central Deccan volcanic province( CDVP) are designated as Sahyadri Group having ~ 500 m thick lava pile associated with multiple sedimentary beds at different stratigraphic levels. In the eastern part of CDVP between the latitude 19 °55 '--20 °25 ' N and the longitudes 78 °15 '--78 °30 ' E,palynological investigation of the intertrappean sedimentary beds at five stratigraphic levels was carried out. The study was basically aimed for tracking the floral and environmental changes across the Deccan transition. The resulting finds indicate that the intertrappean sediments at the lowest stratigraphic level between the earliest lava flows are characterized by presence of marker Maastrichtian palynomorphs- Gabonisporis vigourouxii,Aquilapollenites bengalensis,Azolla cretacea and Farabeipollis associated with triporate and tricolpate pollen grains,phytoliths of Oryzeae of Poaceae family and peridinoid dinoflagellate cysts. The increasing volcanism deteriorated the existing flora as evident by absence of pollen-spores and presence of only structured biodegraded organic matter,fungal spores,acritarchs and algal( Botryococcus) remains in the sediments of higher-up in the sequence. For chronostratigraphic constraints on the lava flows magnetic polarity of the flows bracketing the intertrappean beds was investigated. The results indicated presence of N-R-N-R magnetic polarity in the basal lava pile that are interpreted as representing the magnetochron C30 N to C28 R( Maastrichtian-Paleogene). The floral change begins with the onset of volcanism in the chron C30 N and floral deterioration is observed in C29 N with increasing volcanism and it is only in the chron C28 R( Danian) that some evidence of recovery of flora is recorded. The current study shows that in eastern part of CDVP the post Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary eruptions represent the main phase of eruptions that triggered deterioration of the flora.Bandana Samant D.M.Mohabey 2016Global Geology2016,19,4:1
