| 1 | Evaluation of hyperreflective foci as a prognostic factor of visual outcome in retinal vein occlusion显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the potential role of hyperreflective foci(HF) as a prognostic indicator of visual outcome in patients with macular edema(ME) due to retinal vein occlusion(RVO).METHODS:We retrospectively reviewed 50 eyes of 50 patients with ME due to ischemic central retinal vein occlusion(CRVO),non-ischemic CRVO and branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO) who were treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(anti-VEGF) at Beijing Tongren Eye Center from January 2013 to July 2016.All patients underwent best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT) at baseline and follow-up.Such factors were evaluated and compared among three groups as baseline and final BCVA,central retinal thickness(CRT),external limiting membrane(ELM) status and the numbers of HF in different position.Multiple linear regression analysis was employed to analyze the relationship between baseline HF and final BCVA.Changes of HF before and after treatment were evaluated too.RESULTS:Among three groups,HF could be located in each retinal layers,as well as in vitreous cavity.The mean HF in outer retinal layer(ORL) at baseline was 5.29±8.48 in ischemic CRVO with intact ELM,1.93±2.76 in non-ischemic CRVO,and 1.75±2.05 in BRVO.With disrupted ELM,the mean HF in ORL increased.There was statistically difference of HF in ORL between intact and disrupted ELM.The numbers of HF in ORL were associated with poor visual outcome among three groups.However,HF in inner retinal layer(IRL) and vitreous cavity were not associated with poor visual outcome.Meanwhile,the baseline HF in ORL and vitreous cavity reduced significantly in nonischemic CRVO and BRVO after anti-VEGF treatment.CONCLUSION:The numbers of HF in ORL are prognostic factors associated with the final BCVA in patients with ME due to RVO after anti-VEGF treatment. | Bin Mo Hai-Ying Zhou Xuan Jiao Feng Zhang | 2017 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2017,10,4: | 15 |
| 2 | Development and validation of an endoscopic images-based deep learning model for detection with nasopharyngeal malignancies显示文摘Background:Due to the occult anatomic location of the nasopharynx and frequent presence of adenoid hyperpla-sia,the positive rate for malignancy identification during biopsy is low,thus leading to delayed or missed diagnosis for nasopharyngeal malignancies upon initial attempt.Here,we aimed to develop an artificial intelligence tool to detect nasopharyngeal malignancies under endoscopic examination based on deep learning.Methods:An endoscopic images-based nasopharyngeal malignancy detection model(eNPM-DM)consisting of a fully convolutional network based on the inception architecture was developed and fine-tuned using separate training and validation sets for both classification and segmentation.Briefly,a total of 28,966 qualified images were collected.Among these images,27,536 biopsy-proven images from 7951 individuals obtained from January 1st,2008,to December 31st,2016,were split into the training,validation and test sets at a ratio of 7:1:2 using simple randomiza-tion.Additionally,1430 images obtained from January 1st,2017,to March 31st,2017,were used as a prospective test set to compare the performance of the established model against oncologist evaluation.The dice similarity coef-ficient(DSC)was used to evaluate the efficiency of eNPM-DM in automatic segmentation of malignant area from the background of nasopharyngeal endoscopic images,by comparing automatic segmentation with manual segmenta-tion performed by the experts.Results:All images were histopathologically confirmed,and included 5713(19.7%)normal control,19,107(66.0%)nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),335(1.2%)NPC and 3811(13.2%)benign diseases.The eNPM-DM attained an overall accuracy of 88.7%(95%confidence interval(CI)87.8%-89.5%)in detecting malignancies in the test set.In the prospective comparison phase,eNPM-DM outperformed the experts:the overall accuracy was 88.0%(95%CI 86.1%-89.6%)vs.80.5%(95%CI 77.0%-84.0%).The eNPM-DM required less time(40 s vs.110.0±5.8 min)and exhibited encouraging performance in automatic segmentation of nasopharyngeal malignant area from the background,with an average DSC of 0.78±0.24 and 0.75±0.26 in the test and prospective test sets,respectively.Conclusions:The eNPM-DM outperformed oncologist evaluation in diagnostic classification of nasopharyngeal mass into benign versus malignant,and realized automatic segmentation of malignant area from the background of nasopharyngeal endoscopic images. | Chaofeng Li Bingzhong Jing Liangru Ke Bin Li Weixiong Xia Caisheng He Chaonan Qian Chong Zhao Haiqiang Mai Mingyuan Chen Kajia Cao Haoyuan Mo Ling Guo Qiuyan Chen Linquan Tang Wenze Qiu Yahui Yu Hu Liang Xinjun Huang Guoying Liu Wangzhong Li Lin Wang Rui Sun Xiong Zou Shanshan Guo Peiyu Huang Donghua Luo Fang Qiu Yishan Wu Yijun Hua Kuiyuan Liu Shuhui Lv Jingjing Miao Yanqun Xiang Ying Sun Xiang Guo Xing Lv | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 9 |
| 3 | Inhibition of choroidal neovascularization by lentivirusmediated PEDF gene transfer in rats显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the effects of lentivirus-mediated pigment epithelium-derived factor(PEDF) gene transfer performed in treatment of rats with established choroidal neovascularization(CNV), and investigates the mechanism by which PEDF inhibits CNV in rats.METHODS: Brown Norway(BN) rats(n =204) were induced by exposure to a laser, and then randomly assigned to 3 groups: no treatment; treatments with intravitreal injection of lentivirus-PEDF-green fluorescent protein(GFP) or lentivirus-control GFP(free fluorescent protein). Following induction and treatment,the CNV tissue was assessed for form, size and vessel leakage by fluorescein fundus angiography(FFA), optical coherence tomography(OCT), histopathology, and examination of choroidal flat mounts. VEGF, Flk-1, and PEDF expression were evaluated by real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and Western blot.RESULTS: A stable laser-induced rat model of CNV was successfully established, and used to demonstrate lentivirus-mediated PEDG gene transfer by intravitreal injection. Expression of green fluorescence labelled PEDF was observed in the retina up to 28 d after injection. An intravitreal injection of lentivirus-PEDF-GFP at 7d led to a significant reduction in the size,thickness and area of CNV showed by FFA, OCT and choroidal flat mounts. PEDF was up-regulated while VEGF and Flk-1 were down-regulated in the lentivirus-PEDF-GFP group. The differences in VEGF and Flk-1 expression in the control and lentivirus-PEDF groups at 7, 14, 21 and 28 d after laser induction were all statistically significant. | 4 | Non-buckled vitrectomy for retinal detachment with inferior breaks and proliferative vitreoretinophathy显示文摘AIM: To investigate the efficacy of non-buckled vitrectomy with classical endotamponade agents in the treatment of primary retinal detachment (RD) complicated by inferior breaks and proliferative vitreoretinophathy (PVR).METHODS: A retrospective, consecutive and case series study of 40 patients with inferior break RD and PVR≥C1 was conducted. All patients underwent a standard 3-port 20-gauge pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with gas or silicone oil tamponade without supplementary scleral buckling. The vitreous and all proliferative membrane were completely removed, and retinectomy was performed when necessary. The mean follow-up was 12.5 months. The primary and final anatomic success rate, visual acuity and complications were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: Primary anatomic success rate was achieved in 35 of 40 eyes (87.5%) and the final anatomic success rate was 100%. The most common cause of redetachment was recurrent PVR. The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at final follow-up was improved in 34 eyes (85%), remained stable in 1 eye (2.5%), and worsened in 5 eyes (12.5%). The mean visual acuity at final follow-up was improved significantly (P=0.000).CONCLUSION: This retrospective study provides evidence that vitrectomy without scleral buckling seemed to be an effective treatment for inferior break RD with PVR. | 5 | Interactions between Bacillus mucilaginosus and silicate minerals(weathered adamellite and feldspar):Weathering rate,products,and reaction mechanisms显示文摘Bacillus mucilaginosus is a common soil bacterium,and usually used as a model bacterium in studying microbe-mineral interactions.Several reaction mechanisms of B.mucilaginosus weathering silicate minerals were proposed.However,the molecule mechanisms and detailed processes were still unclear.In this paper,bacterium-mineral interactions were studied in terms of variations in pH value over the experimental period,variations in mineral composition,weathering rates of silicate minerals and volatile metabolites in the culture medium,etc.,to further explore the bacterium-mineral interaction mechanisms.The results showed that B.mucilaginosus could enhance silicate mineral weathering obviously.The weathering rates were quite different for various kinds of silicate minerals,and the weathering rate of weathered adamellite could reach 150 mg/m2/d.Although B.mucilaginosus produced little acidic substance,pH in the microenvironment of bacterium-mineral complex might be far lower than that of the circumjacent environment;a large amount of acetic acid was found in the metabolites,and was likely to play an important role as a ligand.These results appear to suggest that acidolysis and ligand degradation are the main mechanisms of B.mucilaginosus dissolving silicate minerals,the formation of bacterium-mineral complexes is the necessary condition for the bacteria weathering silicate minerals,and extracelluar polysaccharides played important roles in bacterium-mineral interaction processes by forming bacterium-mineral complexes and maintaining the spe-cial physicochemical properties of microenvironment. | Mo, Binbin Lian, Bin | 2011 | Chinese Journal Of Geochemistry2011,30,2: | 7 |
| 6 | Relationship between Ambient Fine Particles and Ventricular Repolarization Changes and Heart Rate Variability of Elderly People with Heart Disease in Beijing, China显示文摘Objective To explore the effects of particulate matters less than 2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM 2.5) on heart repolarization/depolarization and heart rate variability (HRV). Methods We conducted a panel study for elderly subjects with heart disease in Beijing from 2007 to 2008. PM 2.5 was measured at a fixed station for 20 h continuously each day while electrocardiogram (ECG) indexes of 42 subjects were also recorded repeatedly. Meteorological data was obtained from the China Meteorological Data Sharing Service System. A mixed linear regression model was used to estimate the associations between PM 2.5 and the ECG indexes. The model was adjusted for age, body mass index, sex, day of the week andmeteorology. Results Significant adverse effects of PM 2.5 on ECG indexes reflecting HRV were observed statistically and the strongest effect of PM 2.5 on HRV was on lag 1 day in our study. However, there were no associations between PM 2.5 and ECG indexes reflecting heart repolarization/depolarization. Additionally, the effects of PM 2.5 on subjects with hypertension were larger than on the subjects without hypertension. | 7 | Effects of back fat,growth rate,and age at first mating on Yorkshire and Landrace sow longevity in China显示文摘In the present study, genetic parameters for longevity and genetic correlations with back fat(BF), average daily gain(ADG), and first mating age(FMA) were estimated from 19 300 Yorkshire and 18 378 Landrace sows from 12 farms derived from one breeding system. General linear models(GLM) were employed to estimate genetic correlations with heritability(h^2). Longevity was defined by six different parameters(i.e., traits) and heritability ranged from h^2=0.13 to 0.16(P<0.05) in both swine breeds. Genetic correlations between different longevity definitions were positive and high(r=0.79 to 0.99; P<0.05). BF exhibited low positive genetic correlations(r=0.12 to 0.15; P<0.05) with longevity traits identified in both pig breeds which were dependent on trait definition, whereas ADG and FMA showed weak negative genetic correlations with longevity traits. The influence of BF, ADG, and FMA on longevity traits was examined by dividing the production and reproductive traits into several numerical groups; the influence of each longevity trait was subsequently analyzed among the different groups. The results indicated BF was the best trait to improve longevity among BF, ADG, and FMA, which showed positive effects for almost all longevity traits. For Yorkshire sows, gilts with over 18 mm BF were most desirable; Landrace with 10.6–13 mm BF were suitable for longevity. ADG was not favorable for gilt selection, because the correlation between growth rate and longevity very low. For FMA, our results indicated gilts mating before 230 days exhibited a longer life span. | 9 | Scleral TGF-β1 and Smad3 expression is altered by TCM Bu Jing Yi Shi Tablets in guinea pigs with form-deprivation myopia显示文摘Objective:To explore whether the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)Bu Jing Yi Shi Tablets alters the expression of scleral TGF-b1 and Smad3 in guinea pigs with formdeprivation myopia(FDM).Methods:Sixty-five guinea pigs were randomly divided into control,model,low-,medium-,and high-dose treatment groups.Except for the control group,FDM was induced by covering the right eye of each animal with opaque latex.The treatment groups were gavaged with different suspension concentrations of Bu Jing Yi Shi Tablets.Refraction and axial length were performed before and after myopia induction.At the end of the experiment,all right eyes were extracted,and scleral sections were prepared for staining and TGF-b1 and Smad3 immunohistochemistry.Scleral thickness and area,the scleral fibroblast quantity,and scleral TGFb1 and Smad3 expressions were measured.Results:The 5 FDM groups had the same initial axial length and diopter,the final diopter and axial length of the model group were significantly increased compared with the control group and treatment groups(P<.01).The axial length of each treatment group decreased as the dose decreased compared with the model group(P<.01);the total scleral area(P<.05 e.01)and the number of scleral fibroblasts(P<.01)in the model group were significantly lower than the treatment groups.Both the TGF-b1 and Smad3 integral optical densities in the model group were significantly lower than the control and medium-and high-dose treatment groups(P<.01).TGF-b1 and Smad3 mRNAs in the model group were decreased compared with the control group,but increased in expression after treatment. | Ya Mo Yi Wang Bin Cao Jiajia Zhang Guoting Ren Ting Yang | 2016 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2016,3,2: | 3 |

| 12 | Expression and predictive value of miR-489 and miR-21 in melanoma metastasis显示文摘BACKGROUND Melanoma is a highly malignant skin tumour, and is one of the most rapidly growing malignant tumors in recent years. According to statistics, the morbidity of cancer increases with age, accounting for 1.6% of new cancer cases and 0.6% of deaths worldwide. Melanoma has a serious impact on society and families, thus it is of great significance to find biological markers related to the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma.AIM To explore the expression and predictive value of mir-489 and mir-21 in melanoma metastasis.METHODS A total of 60 patients with malignant melanoma treated at our hospital from June2017 to December 2018 were selected as a research group, while 40 healthy subjects were selected as a control group. qRT-PCR technique was used to detect miR-489 and miR-21 in serum of the two groups. ROC curve was drawn to evaluate the predictive value and diagnostic efficiency. Spearman test was used for correlation analysis. Logistic single-and multiple-factor analyses were performed to identify the risk factors related to melanoma metastasis.RESULTS The expression of miR-489 in the research group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P < 0.001). However, the expression of miR-21 in the research group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P < 0.001).The expression of miR-489 and miR-21 was related to TNM stage and metastasis(P < 0.001). In the diagnosis of melanoma patients, the sensitivity, specificity, and AUC of miR-489 alone were 75.56%, 80.00%, and 0.852, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, and AUC of miR-21 alone were 77.78%, 82.22%, and 0.844,respectively. MiR-489 was negatively correlated with TNM stage of melanoma(r=-0.612, P < 0.001), while miR-21 was positively correlated with TNM stage(r =0.609, P < 0.001). | 13 | Angioplasty with Stent for Symptomatic Intracranial Stenosis Trial I (ASSIT-Ⅰ) Study显示文摘Background and Purpose Annual stroke rates might be as high as 10% to 24% in patients with symptomatic intracranial stenosis on best medical therapy. Angioplasty with stent for symptomatic intracranial stenosis trial Ⅰ (ASSIST-Ⅰ) was a prospective and nonrandomized feasibility and safety study to evaluate the APOLLO Stent System for treatment of symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis, and prepare for ASSIST Ⅱ-a prospective, multicenter,and randomized controlled-study. The APOLLO stent delivery system (MicroPort Medical [Shanghai] Limited Co.), specifically designed for intracranial artery stenosis, consists of a stent and a balloon and a rapid-exchange delivery catheter. The stent is made of 316L stainless steel, with diameters of 2.0 to 4.0 mm and length of 8 mm or 13 mm. Only two links connect the rings of 1 mm in length, rendering the stent a good flexibility enough to navigate tortuous intracranial vessels. The nominated pressure of the stent is designed at 6 atm to reduce the risk of occlusion to side branches and perforators and rupture and dissection of target vessel. The crimping technique is applied in this system, insuring a compact ability of stent so wonderful that the struts of stent do not lift when the stent negotiates a turn, which lessen the likelihood of vessel wall injury and stent migrating. Materials and methods Thirty-four patients with 35 symptomatic intracranial stenoses of ≥50%, which resulted in transient ischemic attacks (TIAs [23 lesions /22 patients]) and minor stroke (7 lesions/7 patents), and both TIAs and stroke (5 lesions/ 5 patients), and with 1 asymptomatic severe stenosis, were enrolled in ASSIST-Ⅰ from December 10, 2003 to August 12, 2004. Their age was 54.3 years±SD of 9.49, three patients were male, and all had ≥1 risk factors of atherosclerosis. Patients received the evaluation of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), modified Rankin scale (mRS )and Barthel idex (BI) before and one-, three-, six-, and 12-month after the procedure. Results Stent success, defined as stent-assisted angioplasty successfully, resulting in ≤20% residual stenosis, was obtained in 35 lesions ( 97.2%, 35/36) and 33 patients ( 97.1%, 33/34). The stenosis rate of pre- and post -procedure was 80.5%± SD of 12.65 and 7.4%±SD 15.74, respectively. The Procedure-related complications were 8.3% for lesion (3/36) and 8.8% for patient (3/34), included 1 acute thrombosis, which obtained complete patency by means of intrathrombus thombolysis at once without sequelae, and 2 ischemic perforator strokes (1 irreversible stroke and 1 reversible). The disable stroke, defined as one that led to mRS score of ≥2, 30 days after the stroke, occurred in one patient ( 2.9%, 1/34; mRS of 2). Procedure success, defined as stent success without disable stroke or death at discharge by means of the endovascular therapy, was achieved in 33 lesions ( 91.7%, 33/36) and in 31 patients ( 91.2%, 31/34). Treatment success, defined as stent success without disable stroke and death at the 30th day, by means of the endovascular and medical therapy, was obtained in 34 lesions ( 94.4%, 34/36) and 32 patients ( 94.1%, 32/34). Clinical Follow-up, median 170 days (ranged from 30 days to 273 days; ≥1 month, n=34; ≥3 months, n=23; ≥6 months, n=13), was performed in 34 patients. There were no ischemic neurological events and death occurred. Cumulated disable stroke occurred in 1 patient ( 2.9%, 1/34). | 15 | Nutrient Accumulation and Distribution of Mature Pinus massoniana Plantation in Northwestern Guangxi显示文摘[Objectives]This study was conducted to reveal the characteristics of nutrient absorption and accumulation in Pinus massoniana plantations in Northwestern Guangxi.[Methods]Based on field investigation and indoor analysis,the contents,accumulation and annual net accumulation of five nutrient elements(N,P,K,Ca and Mg)in a mature P.massoniana plantation(26-year-old)in Nandan County,Guangxi Province were studied.[Results]The contents of nutrient elements in different organs of the mature P.massoniana plantation were the highest in the leaves,followed by the bark,branch and root,and the lowest in the stem.In general,among the contents of the five elements in different organs,N content was the highest,followed by K or Ca,and P and Mg were the lowest.The total accumulation of nutrient elements in the 26-year-old mature P.massoniana plantation in northwestern Guangxi was 1 384.05 kg/hm^2.Among the different structural levels of the stand,the tree layer had the highest accumulation of nutrient elements,which was 1 198.41 kg/hm^2,accounting for 86.59%of the total accumulation of nutrients in the plantation,and the accumulation of nutrients in other layers from the largest to the smallest was the litter layer(91.97 kg/hm^2),herb layer(49.86 kg/hm^2)and shrub layer(43.92 kg/hm^2),accounting for 3.17%,3.60%and 6.64%of the total nutrient accumulation of the plantation,respectively.The annual net accumulation of nutrient elements in the tree layer of the mature P.massoniana plantation was 46.09 kg/(hm^2·a),and the order of the annual net accumulation of different nutrient elements followed N>K>Ca>Mg>P;and the accumulation of 1 t of dry matter needed 6.37 kg of the five nutrients.[Conclusions]This study provides a scientific basis for the rational management of P.massoniana plantations,especially forest soil management. | Minyang XIE Zhenge HUANG Mingbao WEI Bin HE Shaozhuang MO Gang ZHOU JI LIANG | 2019 | Agricultural Biotechnology2019,8,4: | 2 |
