1Soil Organic Carbon Mineralization as Affected by Cyclical Temperature Fluctuations in a Karst Region of Southwestern China显示文摘The diurnal fluctuation in soil temperature may influence soil organic carbon(SOC) mineralization, but there is no consensus on SOC mineralization response to the cyclical fluctuation in soil temperature. A 56-d incubation experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of constant and variable temperatures on SOC mineralization. Three soils were collected from the karst region in western Guizhou Province, southwestern China, including a limestone soil under forest, a limestone soil under crops and a yellow soil under crops. According to the World Reference Base(WRB) classification, the two limestone soils were classified as Haplic Luvisols and the yellow soil as a Dystric Luvisol. These soils were incubated at three constant temperatures(15, 20 and 25?C) and cyclically fluctuating temperatures(diurnal cycle between 15 and 25?C). The results showed that the 56-d cumulative SOC mineralized(C56)at the fluctuating temperatures was between those at constant 15 and 25?C, suggesting that the cumulative SOC mineralization was restricted by temperature range. The SOC mineralization responses to the fluctuating temperatures were different among the three soils, especially in contrast to those at constant 20?C. Compared with constant 20?C, significant(P < 0.05) decreases and increases in C56 value were found in the limestone soil under forest and yellow soil under crops at the fluctuating temperatures, respectively. At the fluctuating temperatures, the forest soil with lower temperature coefficient Q10(the relative change in SOC mineralization rate as a result of increasing the temperature by 10?C) had a significantly(P < 0.05) lower SOC mineralization intensity than the two cropland soils. These indicated that differences in temperature pattern(constant or fluctuating) could significantly influence SOC mineralization, and SOC mineralization responses to the fluctuating temperatures might be affected by soil characteristics.Moreover, the warmer temperatures might improve the ability of soil microbes to decompose the recalcitrant SOC fraction, and cyclical fluctuations in temperature could influence SOC mineralization through changing the labile SOC pool size and the mineralization rate of the recalcitrant SOC in soils.CI En Mahdi M.AL-KAISI WANG Liange DING Changhuan XIE Deti 2015Pedosphere2015,25,4:12
2Biped Robot with Triangle Configuration显示文摘A new biped robot with a triangle configuration is presented and it is a planar closed chain mechanism.The scalability of three sides of the triangle is realized by three actuated prismatic joints.The three vertexes of the triangle are centers of three passive revolute joints coincidently.The biped mechanism for straight walking is proposed and its walking principle and mobility are explained.The static stability and the height and span of one step are analyzed.Kinematic analysis is performed to plan the gaits of walking on an even floor and going upstairs.A prototype is developed and experiments are carried out to validate the straight walking gait.Two additional revolute joints are added to form a modified biped robot which can follow the instruction of turning around.The turning ability is verified by experiments.As a new member of biped robots,its triangle configuration is used to impart geometry knowledge.Because of its high stiffness,some potential applications are on the way.LIU Changhuan YAO Yan’an TIAN Yaobin 2012Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2012,25,1:5
3An Overview of Bearing Candidates for the Next Generation of Reusable Liquid Rocket Turbopumps显示文摘There is a consensus in the aerospace field that the development of reusable liquid rockets can effectively reduce the launch expense.The pursuit of a long service life and reutilization highly depends on the bearing components.However,the rolling element bearings(REBs)used in the existing rocket turbopumps present obvious and increasing limitations due to their mechanical contacting mode.For REBs,high rotational speed and long service life are two performance indexes that mutually restrict each other.To go beyond the DN value(the product of the bearing bore and rotational speed)limit of REBs,the major space powers have conducted substantial explorations on the use of new types of bearings to replace the REB.This review discusses,first,the crucial role of bearings in rocket turbopumps and the related structural improvements of REBs.Then,with the prospect of application to the next generation of reusable liquid rocket turbopumps,the bearing candidates investigated by major space powers are summarized comprehensively.These promising alternatives to REBs include fluid-film,foil,and magnetic bearings,together with the novel superconducting compound bearings recently proposed by our team.Our more than ten years of relevant research on fluid-film and magnetic bearings are also introduced.This review is meaningful for the development of long-life and highly reliable bearings to be used in future reusable rocket turbopumps.Jimin Xu Changhuan Li Xusheng Miao Cuiping Zhang Xiaoyang Yuan 2020Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2020,33,2:4
4Transcriptome Profiling of the Abdominal Skin of Larimichthys crocea in Light Stress显示文摘Large yellow croaker(Larimichthys crocea), one of the most important marine fish species in China, can change its abdominal skin color when it is shifted from light to dark or from dark to light, providing us an opportunity of investigating the molecular responding mechanism of teleost in light stress. The gene expression profile of fish under light stress is rarely documented. In this research, the transcriptome profiles of the abdominal skin of L. crocea exposed to light or dark for 0 h, 0.5 h and 2 h were produced by next-generation sequencing(NGS). The cluster results demonstrated that stress period, rather than light intensity(e.g., light or dark), is the major influencing factor. Differently expressed genes(DEGs) were identified between 0 h and 0.5 h groups, between 0 h and 2 h groups, between 0.5 h light and 0.5 h dark, and between 2 h light and 2 h dark, respectively. The gene ontology(GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) annotation revealed that the genes relating to immunity, energy metabolism, and cytoskeletal protein binding were significantly enriched. The detailed analysis of transcriptome profiles also revealed regular gene expression trends, indicating that the elaborate gene regulation networks underlined the molecular responses of the fish to light stress. This transcriptome analysis suggested that systematic and complicated regulatory cascades were functionally activated in response to external stress, and coloration change caused by light stress was mainly attributed to the change in the density of chromatophores for L. crocea. 5Population viability analysis of small population:a case study for Asian elephant in China显示文摘Small populations are at risk of extinction from deterministic and stochastic factors.Less than 250 Asian elephants(Elephas maximus)remain in China,and are distributed in a few isolated areas;yet,population viability analyses of this endangered population have not been conducted.Here,the current genetic status of the Pu’Er-Mengyang Asian elephant populations in China was analyzed,and the risk of extinction was predicted over the next 500 years.Factors affecting the viability of this population were determined through simulations.The genetic diversity of the population was very low(mean allele number:3.1;expected heterozygosity:0.463),even though a recent population bottleneck was not detected.The effective population size was approximately 24.1 adult elephants.Enough adult breeding individuals exist to maintain population viability.VORTEX simulation model showed that this population would not go extinct in the next 500 years.However,illegal poaching and harvesting could negatively affect population size.A sensitivity analysis showed that the mean stochastic growth rate of the study population is sensitive to sex ratio,number of breeding females,mortality of females of different age classes,carrying capacity,and lethal equivalents.Based on our results,we suggest that action should be taken to alleviate inbreeding and any further loss of genetic diversity,by connecting fragmented elephant habitat or by translocating individual elephants.In addition,human–elephant conflict should be mitigated using various modern approaches,including crop guarding techniques,and by encouraging farmers to switch to crops and income sources not vulnerable to elephant raids.Changhuan HE Jiaojiao DU Di ZHU Li ZHANG 2020Integrative Zoology2020,15,5:1

7Study on Intervention of Blood Sugar and Blood Lipid in Diabetic Mice by Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb and Their Compatibility显示文摘Objective:The study aims to explore the interventional effect of Abrus cantonensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb and their compatibility on blood glucose and blood lipid in diabetic mice and to explore the optimal ratio of efficacy of their compatibility.Methods:SPF Kunming male mice were fed with high sugar and high fat diet for 6 weeks and then intraperitoneally injected with STZ solution to establish a diabetes model.The successfully modeled mice were randomly divided into 6 groups according to their body weight:model group,Abrus Cantoniensis group,Armeniaca mume Sieb group,as well as Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb group divided into 1:2,1:1 and 2:1 groups according to volume ratio with 10 mice in each group.Another 10 healthy mice were taken as blank group and intraperitoneally injected with sodium citrate buffer.The corresponding solution was given intragastric administration by body mass once a day for 20 days.After the last administration,fasting was performed for 12 hours.Serum was collected by the method of eyeball blood collection to determine the contents of fasting blood glucose,total cholesterol Triacylglycerol,triglyceride,low density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein.Results:Compared with Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb groups,Glu,TG,TC and LDL-C of the three compatibility groups significantly decreased,with the most significant decrease in the compatibility group 1:2,while there was no significant difference in HDL-C among all groups.Conclusion:Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb and their combination have synergistic effects on the improvement of blood glucose and lipid levels in mice with high glucose and high fat combined with STZ-induced diabetes mellitus model.Among all the experimental groups,the compatibility 1:2 group had the best effect.Yixin Zhang Shibo Zhao Sitong Lu Danni Lu Yedong Shen Changhuan He Zhonggang Wu Suoyi Huang 2021TMR Pharmacology Research2021,1,4:1

15Effect of molecular weight on the quality of poly(alpha-methylstyrene) mandrel显示文摘Hollow poly(alpha-methylstyrene)(PAMS)shows application in inertial confinement fusion experiments as the degradable mandrels of glow plasma polymer shells.However,the molecular weight of PAMS has great influence on the quality of mandrels.In this work,this influence was systematically studied using several PAMS samples with different molecular weights.For PAMS shells with 900 mm inner diameter and different wall thickness,when the molecular weight of PAMS is in the range of 300e500 kg·mol^(-1),perfect sphericity and good wall thickness uniformity can be obtained.In contrast,when increasing molecular weight to 800 kg·mol^(-1),the sphericity and the wall thickness uniformity become worse.Moreover,compared with the wall uniformity,the sphericity of PAMS shells was much less sensitive to the molecular weight.The results also showed that the stability of W1/O compound droplets of PAMS shells were less affected by the molecular weight.It was revealed that the wall uniformity and the sphericity of the PAMS shells were associated with the diffusion rates of fluorobenzene(FB).Xiuyun Shangguan Sufen Chen Shuang Ma Meifang Liu Changhuan Tang Yong Yi Zhanwen Zhang 2017Matter and Radiation at Extremes2017,2,4:0
16Concentrated ternary ether electrolyte allows for stable cycling of a lithium metal battery with commercial mass loading high-nickel NMC and thin anodes显示文摘A new concentrated ternary salt ether-based electrolyte enables stable cycling of lithium metal battery(LMB)cells with high-mass-loading(13.8 mg cm^(−2),2.5 mAh cm^(−2))NMC622(LiNi_(0.6)Co_(0.2)Mn_(0.2)O_(2))cathodes and 50μm Li anodes.Termed“CETHER-3,”this electrolyte is based on LiTFSI,LiDFOB,and LiBF4 with 5 vol%fluorinated ethylene carbonate in 1,2-dimethoxyethane.Commer-cial carbonate and state-of-the-art binary salt ether electrolytes were also tested as baselines.With CETHER-3,the electrochemical performance of the full-cell battery is among the most favorably reported in terms of high-voltage cycling stability.For example,LiNi_(x)Mn_(y)Co_(1-x-y)O_(2)(NMC)-Li metal cells retain 80%capacity at 430 cycles with a 4.4 V cut-off and 83%capacity at 100 cycles with a 4.5 V cut-off(charge at C/5,discharge at C/2).According to simulation by density functional theory and molecular dynamics,this favorable performance is an outcome of enhanced coordination between Li^(+)and the solvent/salt molecules.Combining advanced microscopy(high-resolution transmission electron microscopy,scanning electron microscopy)and surface science(X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,time-of-fight secondary ion mass spectroscopy,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,Raman spectroscopy),it is demonstrated that a thinner and more stable cathode electrolyte interphase(CEI)and solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)are formed.The CEI is rich in lithium sulfide(Li_(2)SO_(3)),while the SEI is rich in Li_(3)N and LiF.During cycling,the CEI/SEI suppresses both the deleterious transformation of the cathode R-3m layered near-surface structure into disordered rock salt and the growth of lithium metal dendrites.Jun Yang Xing Li Ke Qu Yixian Wang Kangqi Shen Changhuan Jiang Bo Yu Pan Luo Zhuangzhi Li Mingyang Chen Bingshu Guo Mingshan Wang Junchen Chen Zhiyuan Ma Yun Huang Zhenzhong Yang Pengcheng Liu Rong Huang Xiaodi Ren David Mitlin 2023Carbon Energy2023,5,3:0
