1Reducing Neonatal Mortality with a Three-Stage Neonatal Resuscitation Training Programme—China,2004–2021显示文摘Neonatal asphyxia is a leading cause of neonatal death that is largely preventable with neonatal resuscitation techniques.In July 2004,China launched a 15-year,three-stage Neonatal Resuscitation Programme(NRP)with stages in 2004–2009,2011–2016,and 2017–2021(1).The objective of China’s NRP was to ensure the presence of at least one trained attendant proficient in neonatal resuscitation at every delivery.With consistent effort,both incidence and mortality from neonatal asphyxia decreased remarkably during 2003–2020:incidence decreased from 6.32%to 1.42%and mortality decreased from 0.76‰to 0.19‰(1–2).China’s empirical experience shows that widespread promotion of high-quality neonatal resuscitation techniques can reduce preventable neonatal deaths and provide important insight into“ending preventable deaths in newborns by 2030,”as proposed in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal’s third target(3).Chenran Wang Qing Yue Tao Xu 2022China CDC weekly2022,4,36:1
2The Trend and Cause of Mortality Burden in Infancy—China,1990–2019显示文摘Introduction:China has made remarkable achievements in reducing infant deaths over the past 30 years.Meanwhile,the trend and cause composition of infant deaths have significantly changed,and the high-level years of life lost(YLLs)presents challenges to public health.This study analyzes the temporal trend and cause of infant mortality burden in China from 1990 to 2019.Methods:Based on the updated estimates from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease Study,we used death and YLLs to describe the infant mortality burden.The percentage changes were applied to illustrate the temporal variation over the period 1990-2019.Results:In 2019,the estimated infant deaths and YLLs in China were 101.9(95%uncertainty interval:88.6-116.4)thousand and 9.0(7.9-10.3)million,respectively,which decreased by 89.9%compared with 1990.Most infant deaths occurred in the neonatal period,especially the first 7 days of life.China’s infant mortality rates for all causes decreased from 1990 to 2019,whereas certain preventable causes such as preterm birth and congenital heart anomalies accounted for increasing proportions during this period.Conclusion and Implications for Public Health Practice:The present study reveals the major preventable causes of infant deaths in China.Decreasing neonatal mortality and improving health status of children at early stage of life have great significance on public health.This is also a solution to achieve the goal of“ending preventable child deaths”of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.Chenran Wang Tao Xu 2021China CDC weekly2021,3,16:1
3Autophagy in neural stem cells and glia for brain health and diseases显示文摘Autophagy is a multifaceted cellular process that not only maintains the homeostatic and adaptive responses of the brain but is also dynamically involved in the regulation of neural cell generation,maturation,and survival.Autophagy facilities the utilization of energy and the microenvironment for developing neural stem cells.Autophagy arbitrates structural and functional remodeling during the cell differentiation process.Autophagy also plays an indispensable role in the maintenance of stemness and homeostasis in neural stem cells during essential brain physiology and also in the instigation and progression of diseases.Only recently,studies have begun to shed light on autophagy regulation in glia(microglia,astrocyte,and oligodendrocyte)in the brain.Glial cells have attained relatively less consideration despite their unquestioned influence on various aspects of neural development,synaptic function,brain metabolism,cellular debris clearing,and restoration of damaged or injured tissues.Thus,this review composes pertinent information regarding the involvement of autophagy in neural stem cells and glial regulation and the role of this connexion in normal brain functions,neurodevelopmental disorders,and neurodegenerative diseases.This review will provide insight into establishing a concrete strategic approach for investigating pathological mechanisms and developing therapies for brain diseases.Aarti Nagayach Chenran Wang 2024Neural Regeneration Research2024,19,4:0
4Measuring Zak phase in room-temperature atoms显示文摘Cold atoms provide a flexible platform for synthesizing and characterizing topological matter,where geometric phases play a central role.However,cold atoms are intrinsically prone to thermal noise,which can overwhelm the topological response and hamper promised applications.On the other hand,geometric phases also determine the energy spectra of particles subjected to a static force,based on the polarization relation between Wannier-Stark ladders and geometric Zak phases.By exploiting this relation,we develop a method to extract geometric phases from energy spectra of room-temperature superradiance lattices,which are momentum-space lattices of timed Dicke states.In such momentum-space lattices the thermal motion of atoms,instead of being a source of noise,provides effective forces which lead to spectroscopic signatures of the Zak phases.We measure Zak phases directly from the anti-crossings between Wannier-Stark ladders in the Doppler-broadened absorption spectra of superradiance lattices.Our approach paves the way of measuring topological invariants and developing their applications in room-temperature atoms.Ruosong Mao Xingqi Xu Jiefei Wang Chenran Xu Gewei Qian Han Cai Shi-Yao Zhu Da-Wei Wang 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,10:0
5Disparities in the global burden of tracheal,bronchus,and lung cancer from 1990 to 2019显示文摘Background:Tracheal,bronchus,and lung(TBL)cancer imposes a high disease burden globally,and its pattern varies greatly across regions and countries.This study aimed to explore the global burden and temporal trends of TBL cancer from 1990 to 2019.Methods:Data on incidence,mortality,and disability-adjusted life years(DALYs)metrics(number,crude rate,and age-standardized rates),and the attributable risk fraction of DALY of TBL cancer from 1990 to 2019 in 21 Global Burden of Disease(GBD)regions,four World Bank income regions,204 countries and territories,and the globe were obtained from the up-to-date GBD 2019 study.We applied estimated annual percentage changes(EAPCs)to the age-standardized incidence rate(ASIR),age-standardized mortality rate(ASMR),and age-standardized DALY rate(ASDR)to quantify the temporal trends of the TBL cancer burden from 1990-2019.Associations of EAPC of age-standardized rates with universal health coverage(UHC)index at the national level were evaluated with Pearson correlation analysis.Results:Globally,approximately 2,260,000 new TBL cancer cases,2,042,600 deaths,and 45,858,000 DALYs were reported in 2019.Combination of all modifiable risk factors,behavioral,environmental,and metabolic risk factors accounted for 79.1%,66.4%,33.3%,and 7.9%of global lung cancer DALYs,respectively.The overall ASIR(EAPC:-0.1[95%confidence interval[CI]:-0.2,-0.1]),ASMR(EAPC:-0.3[95%CI:-0.4,-0.3]),and ASDR(EAPC:-0.7[95%CI:-0.7,-0.6])decreased from 1990 to 2019.The highest mortality rate of TBL cancer occurred in the>85-year-old age group for both sexes among high-income countries(HICs)and upper-middle-income countries(UMCs),and in males aged 80-84 years and females aged>85 years in lower middle-income countries(LMCs).HICs experienced the largest declines in ASIR(-12.6%),ASMR(-20.3%),and ASDR(-27.8%)of TBL cancer between 1990 and 2019,while UMCs had the highest increases in ASIR(16.7%)and ASMR(8.0%)over the period.Eleven(52.4%),14(66.7%),and 15(71.4%)regions of the 21 GBD regions experienced descending trends in ASIR,ASMR,and ASDR of TBL cancer between 1990 and 2019,respectively,with the greatest mean decrease per year(EAPC:-1.7[95%CI:-2.0,-1.5]for ASIR,-1.9[95%CI:-2.2,-1.7]for ASMR,and-2.2[95%CI:-2.5,-2.0]for ASDR)being observed in eastern Europe.The ASIR,ASMR,and ASDR of TBL cancer were deemed to be in decreasing trends in 85,91,and 104 countries and territories,with the largest decrease in Bahrain(EAPC:-3.0[95%CI:-3.3,-2.7]for ASIR,-3.0[95%CI:-3.3,-2.6]for ASMR,and-3.4[95%CI:-3.8,-3.1]for ASDR).ASIR(r=0.524),ASMR(r=0.411),and ASDR(r=0.353)of TBL cancer were positively associated with UHC index at the national level in 2019.Conclusions:The TBL cancer burden shows a downward trend at the global level but varies greatly across regions and countries.A decreasing trend in the TBL cancer burden was observed in the most of the 21 GBD regions and 204 countries from 1990 to 2019.UMCs had the highest burden of TBL cancer and showed the largest increases in ASIR and ASMR.Chenran Wang Zheng Wu Yongjie Xu Yadi Zheng Zilin Luo Wei Cao Fei Wang Xuesi Dong Chao Qin Liang Zhao Changfa Xia Fengwei Tan Wanqing Chen Ni Li Jie He 2023Chinese Medical Journal Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine2023,1,1:0

7Metal-free visible-light-mediated aerobic oxidation of silanes to silanols显示文摘Oxidation of silanes into silanols using water/air has attracted considerable attention. The known methods with no exception required a metal catalyst. Herein we report the first metal-free method: 2 mol% Rose Bengal as the catalyst, air(O2) as the oxidant, water as the additive and under visible light irradiation. 9Synaptic transistor with multiple biological functions based on metal-organic frameworks combined with the LIF model of a spiking neural network to recognize temporal information显示文摘Spiking neural networks(SNNs)have immense potential due to their utilization of synaptic plasticity and ability to take advantage of temporal correlation and low power consumption.The leaky integration and firing(LIF)model and spike-timing-dependent plasticity(STDP)are the fundamental components of SNNs.Here,a neural device is first demonstrated by zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs)as an essential part of the synaptic transistor to simulate SNNs.Significantly,three kinds of typical functions between neurons,the memory function achieved through the hippocampus,synaptic weight regulation and membrane potential triggered by ion migration,are effectively described through short-term memory/long-term memory(STM/LTM),long-term depression/long-term potentiation(LTD/LTP)and LIF,respectively.Furthermore,the update rule of iteration weight in the backpropagation based on the time interval between presynaptic and postsynaptic pulses is extracted and fitted from the STDP.In addition,the postsynaptic currents of the channel directly connect to the very large scale integration(VLSI)implementation of the LIF mode that can convert high-frequency information into spare pulses based on the threshold of membrane potential.The leaky integrator block,firing/detector block and frequency adaptation block instantaneously release the accumulated voltage to form pulses.Finally,we recode the steadystate visual evoked potentials(SSVEPs)belonging to the electroencephalogram(EEG)with filter characteristics of LIF.SNNs deeply fused by synaptic transistors are designed to recognize the 40 different frequencies of EEG and improve accuracy to 95.1%.This work represents an advanced contribution to brain-like chips and promotes the systematization and diversification of artificial intelligence.Qinan Wang Chun Zhao Yi Sun Rongxuan Xu Chenran Li Chengbo Wang Wen Liu Jiangmin Gu Yingli Shi Li Yang Xin Tu Hao Gao Zhen Wen 2023Microsystems & Nanoengineering2023,9,4:0
10Targeting UBE2C for degradation by bioPROTACs based on bacterial E3 ligase显示文摘UBE2C(Ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2 C), a key regulator of cell cycle progression, is a promising target for discovery of antitumor agents. However, it is challenging to develop inhibitors of UBE2C owing to its lack of “druggable” pockets. Bio PROTACs(biological proteolysis targeting chimeras) are a kind of protein-based degraders by fusing an adaptor to a subunit of E3 ligase for ubiquitination and subsequent proteasome-dependent degradation of target protein. We report herein the design and biological evaluation of a UBE2C-targeting bio PROTAC based on the NEL(novel E3 ligase) domain of bacterial E3 ligase Ipa H9.8 and the UBE2C-binding WHB(winged-helix B) domain of APC_(2)(anaphase promoting complex subunit 2). The in vitro ubiquitination test and Mass Spectrometry analysis showed that the bio PROTAC could transfer ubiquitin to surface exposed lysines on UBE2C and catalyzed the formation of polyubiquitin chains.
