Esophageal cancer:Epidemiology, risk factors and screening显示文摘More than 600,000 people are diagnosed with esophageal cancer(EC)every year globally, and the five-year survival rate of EC is less than 20%.Two common histological subtypes of EC,esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)and esophageal adenocarcinoma(EAC),have great geographical variations in incidence rates.About half of the world’s EC was diagnosed in China and a majority of which belong to ESCC.Globally, the overall incidence rate of EC is decreasing. In some high-risk Asian regions, such as China, the incidence rate of ESCC has generally declined, potentially due to economic growth and improvement of diet habits. In some European high-income countries and the United States, the decline is mainly attributed to the decrease in smoking and drinking. The risk factors of EC are not well understood, and the importance of environmental and genetic factors in the pathogenesis is also unclear. The incidence and mortality of advanced EC can be reduced through early diagnosis and screening.White light endoscopy is still the gold standard in the current screening technology. This article reviews the epidemiology, risk factors, and screening strategies of EC in recent years to help researchers determine the most effective management strategies to reduce the risk of EC. | Jiang Li Jianguo Xu Yadi Zheng Ya Gao Siyi He He Li Kaiyong Zou Ni Li Jinhui Tian Wanqing Chen Jie He | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,5: | 12
Sex disparity of lung cancer risk in non-smokers:a multicenter population-based prospective study based on China National Lung Cancer Screening Program显示文摘Background: Non-smokers account for a large proportion of lung cancer patients, especially in Asia, but the attention paid to them is limited compared with smokers. In non-smokers, males display a risk for lung cancer incidence distinct from the females-even after excluding the influence of smoking;but the knowledge regarding the factors causing the difference is sparse. Based on a large multicenter prospective cancer screening cohort in China, we aimed to elucidate the interpretable sex differences caused by known factors and provide clues for primary and secondary prevention. Methods: Risk factors including demographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, family history of cancer, and baseline comorbidity were obtained from 796,283 Chinese non-smoking participants by the baseline risk assessment completed in 2013 to 2018. Cox regression analysis was performed to assess the sex difference in the risk of lung cancer, and the hazard ratios (HRs) that were adjusted for different known factors were calculated and compared to determine the proportion of excess risk and to explain the existing risk factors. Results: With a median follow-up of 4.80 years, 3351 subjects who were diagnosed with lung cancer were selected in the analysis. The lung cancer risk of males was significantly higher than that of females;the HRs in all male non-smokers were 1.29 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.20-1.38) after adjusting for the age and 1.38 (95% CI: 1.28-1.50) after adjusting for all factors, which suggested that known factors could not explain the sex difference in the risk of lung cancer in non-smokers. Known factors were 7% (|1.29-1.38|/1.29) more harmful in women than in men. For adenocarcinoma, women showed excess risk higher than men, contrary to squamous cell carcinoma;after adjusting for all factors, 47% ([1.30-1.16]/[1.30-1]) and 4% ([7.02-6.75]/[7.02-1])) of the excess risk was explainable in adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The main causes of gender differences in lung cancer risk were lifestyle factors, baseline comorbidity, and family history. Conclusions: Significant gender differences in the risk of lung cancer were discovered in China non-smokers. Existing risk factors did not explain the excess lung cancer risk of all non-smoking men, and the internal causes for the excess risk still need to be explored;most known risk factors were more harmful to non-smoking women;further exploring the causes of the sex difference would help to improve the prevention and screening programs and protect the non-smoking males from lung cancers. | Zheng Wu Fengwei Tan Zhuoyu Yang Fei Wang Wei Cao Chao Qin Xuesi Dong Yadi Zheng Zilin Luo Liang Zhao Yiwen Yu Yongjie Xu Jiansong Ren Jufang Shi Hongda Chen Jiang Li Wei Tang Sipeng Shen Ning Wu Wanqing Chen Ni Li Jie He | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,,11: | 3
Kinetics and mechanism of thermal degradation of vegetable-tanned leather fiber显示文摘Thermal degradation of vegetable-tanned leather fiber(VLF)was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis aiming to know the exact kinetics and degradation mechanism. The thermogravimetric(TG)and differential thermogravimetric(DTG)curves showed that decomposition of the VLF occurs mainly in the range of 150-600℃,and the latter exhibits asymmetrical peak with a pronounced shoulder. The decomposition process was first analyzed by deconvolution of the experimental DTG curves, followed by reconstruction of the weight loss profiles of two individual processes.Several common isoconversional approaches were applied to calculate the activation energy over a wide range of conversion for the sample, including modified Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose(MKAS),Friedman,and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa.The average activation energy of vegetable-tanned leather fiber was found to be 241.9 kJ mol^(−1) by MKAS method. The activation energy values obtained for the pseudocomponents representing highly-crosslinked and low-crosslinked collagen in VLF were given as 190.6 and 124.8 kJ mol^(−1),respectively.Generalized master plots results suggested that the reaction mechanism for highly-crosslinked collagen follows the random nucleation and growth process at conversion values lower than 0.5.When the conversion is higher than 0.5,the mechanism tends to random scission model. For low-crosslinked collagen, the degradation is mainly governed by random nucleation and nuclei growth. The gaseous products of VLF thermal degradation were analyzed with an online-coupled TG-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy system. | Jie Liu Lan Luo Yadi Hu Fang Wang Xuejing Zheng Keyong Tang | 2019 | Journal of Leather Science and Engineering2019,1,1: | 2
Response of Escherichia coli to hydrogen nanobubbles:an in vitro evaluation using synchrotron infrared spectroscopy显示文摘Hydrogen(H2)-rich water,an apparent source of molecular H2,is an emerging functional drink with many purported benefits for human health(Yang et al.,2020;Ostojic,2021).The preventive and therapeutic effects of H2 on various pathological processes have been intensively investigated in numerous clinical trials;it is commonly believed that the beneficial effects are mainly attributed to its selective antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties(Lee et al.,2015;Ohta,2015;LeBaron et al.,2019;Qiu et al.,2020).In recent years,a handful of rodent studies revealed that exogenous H2 can afifect the gut microbiota(Sha et al.,2018;Valdes et al.,2018). | Jinfang LU Jin ZHENG Yadi WANG Jie CHENG Xueling LI Jun HU Bin LI Junhong Lü | 2021 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2021,22,11: | 1
Disparities in the global burden of tracheal, bronchus, and lung cancer from 1990 to 2019显示文摘Background:Tracheal,bronchus,and lung(TBL)cancer imposes a high disease burden globally, and its pattern varies greatly across regions and countries. This study aimed to explore the global burden and temporal trends of TBL cancer from 1990 to 2019.Methods:Data on incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years(DALYs)metrics(number, crude rate, and age-standardized rates),and the attributable risk fraction of DALY of TBL cancer from 1990 to 2019 in 21 Global Burden of Disease(GBD)regions, four World Bank income regions,204 countries and territories, and the globe were obtained from the up-to-date GBD 2019 study. We applied estimated annual percentage changes(EAPCs)to the age-standardized incidence rate(ASIR),age-standardized mortality rate(ASMR),and age-standardized DALY rate(ASDR)to quantify the temporal trends of the TBL cancer burden from 1990-2019.Associations of EAPC of age-standardized rates with universal health coverage(UHC)index at the national level were evaluated with Pearson correlation analysis. Results:Globally, approximately 2,260,000 new TBL cancer cases,2,042,600 deaths, and 45,858,000 DALYs were reported in 2019.Combination of all modifiable risk factors, behavioral, environmental, and metabolic risk factors accounted for 79.1%,66.4%,33.3%,and 7.9%of global lung cancer DALYs,respectively. The overall ASIR(EAPC:-0.1[95%confidence interval[CI]:-0.2,-0.1]),ASMR(EAPC:-0.3[95%CI:-0.4,-0.3]),and ASDR(EAPC:-0.7[95%CI:-0.7,-0.6])decreased from 1990 to 2019.The highest mortality rate of TBL cancer occurred in the>85-year-old age group for both sexes among high-income countries(HICs)and upper-middle-income countries(UMCs),and in males aged 80-84 years and females aged>85 years in lower middle-income countries(LMCs).HICs experienced the largest declines in ASIR(-12.6%),ASMR(-20.3%),and ASDR(-27.8%)of TBL cancer between 1990 and 2019,while UMCs had the highest increases in ASIR(16.7%)and ASMR(8.0%)over the period.Eleven(52.4%),14(66.7%),and 15(71.4%)regions of the 21 GBD regions experienced descending trends in ASIR,ASMR,and ASDR of TBL cancer between 1990 and 2019,respectively,with the greatest mean decrease per year(EAPC:-1.7[95%CI:-2.0,-1.5]for ASIR,-1.9[95%CI:-2.2,-1.7]for ASMR,and-2.2[95%CI:-2.5,-2.0]for ASDR)being observed in eastern Europe. The ASIR,ASMR,and ASDR of TBL cancer were deemed to be in decreasing trends in 85,91,and 104 countries and territories, with the largest decrease in Bahrain(EAPC:-3.0[95%CI:-3.3,-2.7]for ASIR,-3.0[95%CI:-3.3,-2.6]for ASMR,and-3.4[95%CI:-3.8,-3.1]for ASDR).ASIR(r=0.524),ASMR(r=0.411),and ASDR(r=0.353)of TBL cancer were positively associated with UHC index at the national level in 2019.Conclusions:The TBL cancer burden shows a downward trend at the global level but varies greatly across regions and countries.A decreasing trend in the TBL cancer burden was observed in the most of the 21 GBD regions and 204 countries from 1990 to 2019.UMCs had the highest burden of TBL cancer and showed the largest increases in ASIR and ASMR. | Chenran Wang Zheng Wu Yongjie Xu Yadi Zheng Zilin Luo Wei Cao Fei Wang Xuesi Dong Chao Qin Liang Zhao Changfa Xia Fengwei Tan Wanqing Chen Ni Li Jie He | 2023 | Chinese Medical Journal Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine2023,1,1: | 0
Malnutrition as a predictor of prolonged length of hospital stay in patients with gynecologic malignancy: A comparative analysis显示文摘Objective To explore the consistency of the Patient-generated Subjective Global Assessment(PG-SGA)and Nutritional Risk Screening-2002(NRS-2002)for nutritional evaluation of patients with gynecologic malignancy and their predictive effect on the length of hospital stay(LOS).Methods We recruited 147 hospitalized patients with gynecologic malignancy from Nanfang Hospital in 2017.Their nutritional status was assessed using the PG-SGA and NRS-2002.The consistency between the two assessments was compared via the Kappa test. The relationship between malnutrition and LOS was analyzed using crosstabs and Spearman’s correlation. Results The PG-SGA demonstrated that 66.7%and 54.4%of patients scoring≥2 and≥4 were malnourished, respectively.Furthermore, the NRS-2002 indicated that 55.8%of patients were at nutritional risk.Patients with ovarian cancer had a relatively high incidence of malnutrition. However, this was only significant for patients who scored≥4 in the PG-SGA(P=0.001 and P=0.019 for endometrial carcinoma and cervical cancer, respectively). The PG-SGA and NRS-2002 showed good consistency in evaluating the nutritional status of patients with gynecologic malignancy(0.689,0.643 for PG-SGA score≥2,score≥4 and NRS-2002,respectively).Both the scores of PG-SGA and NRS-2002 were positively correlated with LOS.Furthermore, prolonged LOS was higher in patients with malnutrition than in those with adequate nutrition. Conclusion The PG-SGA and NRS-2002 shared a good consistency in evaluating the nutritional status of patients with gynecologic malignancy. Both assessments could be used as predictors of LOS. | Yongning Chen Runrong Li Li Zheng Wenlian Liu Yadi Zhang Shipeng Gong | 2021 | Oncology and Translational Medicine2021,7,6: | 0
