| 2 | Sperm membrane modulation by Sapindus mukorossi during sperm maturation显示文摘Aim:TO observe the alterations in the biochemical and biophysical changes in the sperm membrane during sperm maturation in male rats treated with the water extract of the fruit pericarp of S.mukorossi.Methods:Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were gavaged the aqueous extract of the fruit pericarp of S.mukorossi at a dose of 50mg/kg/dfor45days.On day46,the sperm parameters were observed in idfferent sections of the epididymis and the sperm superoxide dismutase and the lipid peroxidation was edtermined and compared with the controls.The testis and epidiymis were routinely prepared for histological examination under the light microscope.Results:No significant differences in the sperm number and morphology were observed between the control and reated groups.However,a significant inhibition(P<0.05-0.01)of sperm motility in the caput,corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis was seen in the treated group.No significant histopathological changes were found in the testis and epididymis.Theimportant finding was that in the treated animals,the spermatozoa showed an abnormal distribution of the superoxide dismutase activity,being minimum in the caput and maximum in the corpus,which was just opposite to that of the controls.Conclusion:The study provides a unique observation where the plant extract alters the sperm membrane physiology without change the testicular and epididymal morphology. | Manish Nivsarkar Neeta Shrivastava Manoj Patel Harish Padh Cherian Bapu | 2002 | Asian Journal of Andrology2002,4,3: | 14 |

| 5 | Egg quality, fatty acid composition and immunoglobulin Y content in eggs from laying hens fed full fat camelina or flax seed显示文摘Background: The current study was conducted to evaluate egg quality and egg yolk fatty acids and immunoglobulin(Ig Y) content from laying hens fed full fat camelina or flax seed.Methods: A total of 75, 48-week-old Lohman brown hens were randomly allocated to 3 treatments, with 5replicates containing 5 laying hens each replicate. The hens were fed corn-soybean basal diet(Control), or Control diet with 10 % of full fat camelina(Camelina) or flax seed(Flax) for a period of 16 wk. Hen production performance egg quality, egg yolk lipids, fatty acids and Ig Y were determined every 28 d during the experimental period.Results: Egg production was higher in hens fed Camelina and Flax than in Control hens(P < 0.05). Egg weight and albumen weight was lowest in eggs from hens fed Camelina(P < 0.05). Shell weight relative to egg weight(shell weight %), and shell thickness was lowest in eggs from hens fed Flax(P < 0.05). No difference was noted in Haugh unit, yolk:albumen ratio, and yolk weight. Significant increase in α-linolenic(18:3 n-3), docosapentaenoic(22:5 n-3)and docoshexaenoic(22:6 n-3) acids were observed in egg yolk from hens fed Camelina and Flax. Total n-3 fatty acids constituted 1.19 % in Control eggs compared to 3.12 and 3.09 % in Camelina and Flax eggs, respectively(P < 0.05). Eggs from hens fed Camelina and Flax had the higher Ig Y concentration than those hens fed Control diet when expressed on a mg/g of yolk basis(P < 0.05). | 6 | Laparoscopic liver resection:Wedge resections to living donor hepatectomy, are we heading in the right direction?显示文摘Despite inception over 15 years ago and over 3000 completed procedures, laparoscopic liver resection has remained mainly in the domain of selected centers and enthusiasts. Requirement of extensive open liver resection(OLR) experience, in-depth understanding of anatomy and considerable laparoscopic technical expertise may have delayed wide application. However healthy scepticism of its actual benefits and presence of a potential publication bias; concern about its safety and technical learning curve, are probably equally responsible. Given that a large proportion of our work, at least in transplantation is still OLR, we have attempted to provide an entirely unbiased, mature opinion of its pros and cons in the current invited review. We have dividedthis review into two sections as we believe they merit separate attention on technical and ethical grounds. The first part deals with laparoscopic liver resection(LLR) in patients who present with benign or malignant liver pathology, wherein we have discussed its overall outcomes; its feasibility based on type of pathology and type of resection and included a small section on application of LLR in special scenarios like cirrhosis. The second part deals with the laparoscopic living donor hepatectomy(LDH) experience to date, including its potential impact on transplantation in general. Donor safety, graft outcomes after LDH and criterion to select ideal donors for LLR are discussed. For a viable healthy chick, all the necessary nutrients required for growth and development must be provided by the hen through the fertilized egg. The current feeding strategies for improved growth, health and productivity are targeted towards chicks after hatching. Considering the fact that developing chick embryo spends over 30 % of its total life span inside the hatching egg relying on nutrients deposited by the breeder hen, investigations on nutritional needs during pre-hatch period will improve embryonic health, hatchability and chick viability. | 12 | A modified Murashige and Skoog media for efficient multipleshoot induction in G. arborea Roxb.显示文摘This paper reports on the effect of various micropropagation factors of Gmelina arborea Roxb. through multiple shoot induction. Factors like the source and age of explants, plant growth regulators(PGRs), media composition, and carbon source affected multiple shooting in the present study. Among all the explants used, only shoot tips derived from one, two, and three week old seedlings could form multiple shoots. Besides, the formation of multiple shoots depended on the concentration and combination of PGRs. Among all the PGRs, BAP(6-benzylaminopurine) alone gave the highest regeneration efficiency. Similarly, IBA(Indole-3-butyric acid) was the most efficient PGR in inducing root formation in the microshoots. Media composition and carbon source also affected the regeneration efficiency. MS(Murashige and Skoog medium) proved to be the best media for regeneration followed by B5, SH(Schenk and Hilderbrandt medium) and WPM(Woody plant medium) in that order. Similarly, among sugars, only sucrose and glucose supported induction of microshoots.
