| 1 | Prevalence of clonorchiasis in patients with gastrointestinal disease: A Korean nationwide multicenter survey显示文摘AIM: To investigate prevalence of Clonorchis sinensis in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms, and the relation of the infection to hepatobiliary diseases in 26 hospitals in Korea.METHODS: Consecutive patients who had been admitted to the Division of Gastroenterology with gastrointestinal symptoms were enrolled from March to April 2005. Of those who had been diagnosed with clonorchiasis, epidemiology and correlation between infection and hepatobiliary diseases were surveyed by questionnaire.RESULTS: Of 3080 patients with gastrointestinal diseases, 396 (12.9%) had clonorchiasis and 1140 patients (37.2%) had a history of eating raw freshwater fish. Of those with a history of raw freshwater fish ingestion, 238 (20.9%) patients had clonorchiasis. Cholangiocarcinoma was more prevalent in C. sinensis-infected patients than non-infected patients [34/396 (8.6%) vs 145/2684 (5.4%), P = 0.015]. Cholangiocarcinoma and clonorchiasis showed statistically significant positive cross-relation (P = 0.008). Choledocholithiasis, cholecystolithiasis, cholangitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and biliary pancreatitis did not correlate with clonorchiasis.CONCLUSION: Infection rate of clonorchiasis was still high in patients with gastrointestinal diseases in Korea, and has not decreased very much during the last two decades. | 2 | Clinicopathologic factors influencing the accuracy of EUS for superficial esophageal carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To identify clinicopathologic factors influencing the accuracy of a high-frequency catheter probe endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS)for superficial esophageal carcinomas(SECs).METHODS:A total of 126 patients with endoscopically suspected SEC,who underwent EUS and curative treatment at Pusan National University Hospital during2005-2013,were enrolled.We reviewed the medical records of the 126 patients and compared EUS findings with histopathologic results according to clinicopathologic factors.RESULTS:A total of 114 lesions in 113 patients were included in the final analysis.The EUS assessment of tumor invasion depth was accurate in 78.9%(90/114)patients.Accuracy did not differ according to histologic type,tumor differentiation,tumor location,or macroscopic shape.However,accuracy significantly decreased for tumors≥3 cm in size(P=0.002).Overestimation and underestimation of the invasion depth occurred for 11(9.6%)and 13 lesions(11.4%),respectively.In multivariate analyses,tumor size≥3 cm was the only factor significantly associated with EUS accuracy(P=0.031),and was specifically associated with the underestimation of invasion depth.CONCLUSION:EUS using a high-frequency catheter probe generally provides highly accurate assessments of SEC invasion depth,but its accuracy decreases for tumors≥3 cm. | Jung Im Jung Gwang Ha Kim Hoseok I Do Youn Park Tae Kyun Kim Young Hwa Cho Yong Wan Sung Mun Ki Choi Bong Eun Lee Geun Am Song | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,20: | 9 |
| 3 | Increased end-stage renal disease risk in patients with inflammatory bowel disease:A nationwide populationbased study显示文摘AIM To estimate the risk of end-stage renal disease(ESRD)in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS From January 2010 to December 2013, patients with Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC) were identified, based on both the International Classification of Diseases, 10 th revision(ICD-10) and the rare,intractable disease registration program codes from the National Health Insurance(NHI) database in South Korea. We compared 38812 patients with IBD to ageand sex-matched non-IBD controls with a ratio of 1:3.Patients newly diagnosed with ESRD were identified with the ICD-10 code.RESULTS During a mean follow-up of 4.9 years, ESRD was detected in 79(0.2%) patients with IBD and 166(0.1%)controls. The incidence of ESRD in patients with IBD was0.42 per 1000 person-years. Patients with IBD had a significantly higher risk of ESRD than controls [adjusted hazard ratio(HR) = 3.03; 95% confidence interval(CI):1.77-5.20; P < 0.001]. The incidences(per 1000 personyears)of ESRD were 0.51 in patients with CD and 0.13 in controls, respectively(adjusted HR = 6.33; 95%CI:2.75-14.56; P < 0.001). In contrast, the incidence of ESRD was similar between the UC and control groups(0.37 vs 0.37 per 1000 person-years; adjusted HR = 2.01;95%CI: 0.90-4.51; P = 0.089).CONCLUSION The risk of ESRD was elevated in patients with CD, but not UC. | 4 | Risk of inflammatory bowel disease in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A nationwide, population-based study显示文摘BACKGROUND There is a growing evidence regarding an increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)among patients with airway diseases.AIM To investigate the influence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)on the risk of IBD.METHODS A nationwide,population-based study was conducted using data from the National Health Insurance Service database.A total of 1303021 patients with COPD and 6515105 non-COPD controls were identified.The COPD group was divided into the severe and the mild COPD group according to diagnostic criteria.The risk of IBD in patients with COPD compared to controls was analyzed by Cox proportional hazard regression models.The cumulative incidences of IBD were compared between the groups.RESULTS The COPD group had higher incidences of IBD compared to non-COPD controls(incidence rate,9.98 vs 7.18 per 100000 person-years,P<0.001).The risk of IBD in the COPD group was increased by 1.38(adjusted hazard ratio(HR);95%CI:1.25-1.52).The incidence rate of IBD was higher in the severe COPD group than in the mild COPD group(12.39 vs 9.77 per 100000 person-year,P<0.001).The severity of COPD was associated with an increased risk of IBD(adjusted HR 1.70 in severe COPD,95%CI:1.27-2.21 and adjusted HR 1.35 in mild COPD,95%CI:1.22-1.49)CONCLUSION The incidences of IBD were significantly increased in COPD patients in South Korea and the risk of developing IBD also increased as the severity of COPD increased. | Jooyoung Lee Jong Pil Im Kyungdo Han Seona Park Hosim Soh Kukhwan Choi Jihye Kim Jaeyoung Chun Joo Sung Kim | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,42: | 7 |
| 5 | Heterostructures in two-dimensional colloidal metal chalcogenides:Synthetic fundamentals and applications显示文摘As a new class of two-dimensional materials, two-dimensional (2D) heterostructures constructed from metal chalcogenides (MCs) have been gaining tremendous attention due to their unprecedented physical and chemical phenomena, mainly originated from their distinct structural features such as composition, architecture type, spatial arrangement of each component, crystal structure, exposed facet and interface, dimensionality in their heterostructures. Towards the realization of practical applications, synthetic approaches need a rational design with a variety of architecture types including laterally-combined, vertically-aligned, and conformally-coated 2D MC heterostructures. Among various synthetic routes, solution-based synthesis is thought of as an alternative to fabrication through high-cost setups since it can control those structural features in a cheap fashion. This review presents recent progress on solution-based synthesis to produce various 2D MC heterostructures with a focus on the synthetic fundamentals in terms of thermodynamic and kinetic aspects related to the growth mechanism. Four different synthetic approaches are reviewed: seeded growth, cation exchange reaction, colloidal atomic layer deposition, direct synthesis including one-step process and modified electrochemical method. We also provide some representative applications of 2D MC heterostructures and their hybrid composites in various fields including optoelectronics, thermoelectrics, catalysis, and battery. | 15 | Ameliorating liver fibrosis in an animal model using the secretome released from miR-122-transfected adipose-derived stem cells显示文摘BACKGROUND Recently,the exclusive use of mesenchymal stem cell(MSC)-secreted molecules,called secretome,rather than cells,has been evaluated for overcoming the limitations of cell-based therapy,while maintaining its advantages.However,the use of na?ve secretome may not fully satisfy the specificity of each disease.Therefore,it appears to be more advantageous to use the functionally reinforced secretome through a series of processes involving physico-chemical adjustments or genetic manipulation rather than to the use na?ve secretome.AIM To determine the therapeutic potential of the secretome released from miR-122-transfected adipose-derived stromal cells(ASCs).METHODS We collected secretory materials released from ASCs that had been transfected with antifibrotic miR-122(MCM)and compared their antifibrotic effects with those of the na?ve secretome(CM).MCM and CM were intravenously administered to the mouse model of thioacetamide-induced liver fibrosis,and their therapeutic potentials were compared.RESULTS MCM infusion provided higher therapeutic potential in terms of:(A)Reducing collagen content in the liver;(B)Inhibiting proinflammatory cytokines;and(C)Reducing abnormally elevated liver enzymes than the infusion of the na?ve secretome.The proteomic analysis of MCM also indicated that the contents of antifibrotic proteins were significantly elevated compared to those in the na?ve secretome.CONCLUSION We could,thus,conclude that the secretome released from miR-122-transfected ASCs has higher antifibrotic and anti-inflammatory properties than the na?ve secretome.Because miR-122 transfection into ASCs provides a specific way of potentiating the antifibrotic properties of ASC secretome,it could be considered as an enhanced method for reinforcing secretome effectiveness. | Kee-Hwan Kim Jae Im Lee Ok-Hee Kim Ha-Eun Hong Bong Jun Kwak Ho Joong Choi Joseph Ahn Tae Yun Lee Sang Chul Lee Say-June Kim | 2019 | World Journal of Stem Cells2019,11,11: | 2 |
