1Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma显示文摘Malignant mesothelioma is a highly aggressive neoplasm.The incidence of malignant mesothelioma is increasing worldwide.Diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma(DMPM) represents one-fourth of all mesotheliomas.Association of asbestos exposure with DMPM has been observed,especially in males.The great majority of patients present with abdominal pain and distension,caused by accumulation of tumors and ascitic ? uid.In the past,DMPM was considered a pre-terminal condition;therefore attracted little attention.Patients invariably died from their disease within a year.Recently,several prospective trials have demonstrated a median survival of 40 to 90 mo and 5-year survival of 30% to 60% after combined treatment using cytoreductive surgery and perioperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy.This remarkable improvement in survival has prompted new search into the medical science related to DMPM,a disease previously ignored as uninteresting.This review article focuses on the key advances in the epidemiology,diagnosis,staging,treatments and prognosis of DMPM that have occurred in the past decade.Stine Munkholm-Larsen Christopher Q Cao Tristan D Yan 2009World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2009,1,1:19

4The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. 5Amalgamated gold-nanoalloys with enhanced catalytic activity for the detection of mercury ions(Hg^2+)in seawater samples显示文摘Mercury(Hg)is extremely toxic,and continues to cause major threats to aquatic life,human health and the environment.Hg^2+mainly derives from seawater as a product of atmospheric deposition,therefore there is great demand for sensing approaches that can detect Hg^2+in seawater samples.Herein,we demonstrate that the peroxidase-mimicking activity of gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)or so-called nanozymes,can be exploited for the detection of Hg^2+ions in various water samples.In a high electrolyte environment,the catalytic activity for the oxidation of 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine(TMB)was significantly diminished due to poor stability of the bare-AuNPs.This activity was reduced by-73.7%when the NaCl concentration was higher than 1.168%,which is much lower than that of seawater(-3.5%),thus presenting its unsuitability for detecting Hg^2+in harsh water matrices.To overcome this limitation,AuNPs were first functionalized with oligo-ethylene glycol(OEG),of which their colloidal form presented high stability in NaCl concentrations up to 20%and across a wide range of pHs from 1-14.Interestingly,the catalytic activity of OEG-AuNPs for the oxidation of TMB was strongly suppressed by the coating,but enhanced upon formation of Au-Hg amalgamation.This novel finding underlies a straightforward,sensitive,and highly selective detection platform for Hg^2+in water samples.The approach could detect the exposure limit level for Hg^2+in drinking water(i.e.,2 ppb for tap and bottled water)as set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)and the World Health Organization(WHO).When Hg^2+was spiked into a 3.5%saline solution and a coastal seawater certified reference material(CRM),the detection limits were found to be 10 ancM 3 ppb,respectively,which exceed the Hg^2+concentrations commonly found within seawater(-60-80 ppb).The whole procedure takes less than 45 min to conduct,providing a highly innovative,rapid and low-cost approach for detecting Hg^2+in complex water matrices.Natasha Logan Claire McVey Christopher Elliott Cuong Cao 2020Nano Research2020,13,4:6
6Unusual switchable peroxidase-mimicking nanozyme for the determination of proteolytic biomarker显示文摘Detection of enzyme biomarkers originating from either bio-fluids or contaminating microorganisms is of utmost importance in clinical diagnostics and food safety. Herein, we present a simple, low-cost and easy-to-use sensing approach based on the switchable peroxidase-mimicking activity of plasmonic gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) that can catalyse for the oxidation of 3,3’,5’5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) for the determination of protease enzyme. The AuNP surface is modified with casein, showing dual functionalities. The first function of the coating molecule is to suppress the intrinsic peroxidase-mimicking activity of AuNPs by up to 77.1%, due to surface shielding effects. Secondly, casein also functions as recognition sites for the enzyme biomarker. In the presence of protease, the enzyme binds to and catalyses the degradation of the coating layer on the AuNP surface, resulting in the recovery of peroxidase-mimicking activity. This is shown visually in the development of a blue colored product (oxidised TMB) or spectroscopically as an increase in absorbance at 370 and 650 nm. This mechanism allows for the detection of protease at 44 ng·mL^-1 in 90 min. The nanosensor circumvents issues associated with current methods of detection in terms of ease of use, compatibility with point-of-care testing, low-cost production and short analysis time. The sensing approach has also been applied for the detection of protease spiked in ultra-heat treated (UHT) milk and synthetic human urine samples at a limit of detection of 490 and 176 ng·mL^-1, respectively, showing great potential in clinical diagnostics, food safety and quality control.Claire McVey Natasha Logan Nguyen T. 7Interobserver agreement for contrast-enhanced ultrasound of liver imaging reporting and data system:A systematic review and metaanalysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary liver malignancy.From the results of previous studies,Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System(LIRADS)on contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS)has shown satisfactory diagnostic value.However,a unified conclusion on the interobserver stability of this innovative ultrasound imaging has not been determined.The present metaanalysis examined the interobserver agreement of CEUS LI-RADS to provide some reference for subsequent related research.AIM To evaluate the interobserver agreement of LI-RADS on CEUS and analyze the sources of heterogeneity between studies.METHODS Relevant papers on the subject of interobserver agreement on CEUS LI-RADS published before March 1,2020 in China and other countries were analyzed.The studies were filtered,and the diagnostic criteria were evaluated.The selected references were analyzed using the“meta”and“metafor”packages of R software version 3.6.2.RESULTS Eight studies were ultimately included in the present analysis.Meta-analysis results revealed that the summary Kappa value of included studies was 0.76[95%confidence interval,0.67-0.83],which shows substantial agreement.Higgins I2 statistics also confirmed the substantial heterogeneity(I2=91.30%,95%confidence interval,85.3%-94.9%,P<0.01).Meta-regression identified the variables,including the method of patient enrollment,method of consistency testing,and patient race,which explained the substantial study heterogeneity.CONCLUSION CEUS LI-RADS demonstrated overall substantial interobserver agreement,but heterogeneous results between studies were also obvious.Further clinical investigations should consider a modified recommendation about the experimental design.Jun Li Ming Chen Zi-Jing Wang Shu-Gang Li Meng Jiang Long Shi Chun-Li Cao Tian Sang Xin-Wu Cui Christoph F Dietrich 2020World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,22:2

11Low ADAMTS-13 in plavix induced thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura显示文摘Thrombotic thrombocytopenia purpura(TTP) was fi rst described in 1924 as a 'pathologic alteration of the microvasculature, with detachment or swelling of the endothelium, amorphous material in the sub-endothelial space, and luminal platelet aggregation leading to compromise of the microcirculation'. Ticlopidine induced TTP has been highly associated with autoimmune induced reduction in ADAMTS-13 activity. These findings, to a lesser extent, have also been found in clopidogrel induced TTP. 13Gold Nanozymes:From Concept to Biomedical Applications显示文摘In recent years,gold nanoparticles have demonstrated excellent enzyme-mimicking activities which resemble those of peroxidase,oxidase,catalase,superoxide dismutase or reductase.This,merged with their ease of synthesis,tunability,biocompatibility and low cost,makes them excellent candidates when compared with biological enzymes for applications in biomedicine or biochemical analyses.Herein,over 200 research papers have been systematically reviewed to present the recent progress on the fundamentals of gold nanozymes and their potential applications.The review reveals that the morphology and surface chemistry of the nanoparticles play an important role in their catalytic properties,as well as external parameters such as pH or temperature.Yet,real applications often require specific biorecognition elements to be immobilized onto the nanozymes,leading to unexpected positive or negative effects on their activity.Thus,rational design of efficient nanozymes remains a challenge of paramount importance.Different implementation paths have already been explored,including the application of peroxidase-like nanozymes for the development of clinical diagnostics or the regulation of oxidative stress within cells via their catalase and superoxide dismutase activities.The review also indicates that it is essential to understand how external parameters may boost or inhibit each of these activities,as more than one of them could coexist.Likewise,further toxicity studies are required to ensure the applicability of gold nanozymes in vivo.Current challenges and future prospects of gold nanozymes are discussed in this review,whose significance can be anticipated in a diverse range of fields beyond biomedicine,such as food safety,environmental analyses or the chemical industry.Javier Lou‑Franco Bhaskar Das Christopher Elliott Cuong Cao 2021Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,1:1

18An improved predictive-corrective incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics method for fluid flow modelling显示文摘Predictive-corrective incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (PCISPH) is an efficient SPH variation originally developed for computer graphics. Its application in modeling physics-focused fluid flows has not yet been reported. In this work, an improved PCISPH method is presented for physics-focused fluid flow modeling. Different from traditional weakly-compressible SPH (WCSPH) and incompressible SPH (ISPH), PCISPH satisfies the incompressibility requirement at the particle level without a predefined equation of state. The pressure is obtained using an iterative predictive-corrective scheme at each individual particle. The presented PCISPH allows much larger time steps compared with WCSPH. It also avoids the time-consuming solution of Pressure Poisson Equation (PPE) in ISPH. Consequently, the PCISPH has high computational efficiency even with millions of computational particles. To ensure physically correct modeling of fluid flows, we employ several techniques to enhance the accuracy and stability of the PCISPH:(1) the continuity equation is used to predict density, replacing the mass summation approach used in the original PCISPH,(2) numerical diffusion and pressure smoothing are introduced to improve the pressure computation,(3) a generalized boundary treatment approach which can handle arbitrarily complex geometries is employed,(4) an adaptive time-stepping algorithm is used, allowing efficient simulation as well as ensuring stability. The performance of the improved PCISPH is systematically investigated using three standard SPH validation cases. Comparisons between the improved PCISPH and the state-of-the-art 5 - SPH are presented. It is found that the improved PCISPH gives numerical results as accurate as J - SPH, except for having moderate temporal pressure oscillations. However, the numerical results show that the improved PCISPH is approximately five times faster than 8 -SPH.
