| 6 | Evidence for fine-scale habitat specialisation in an invasive weed显示文摘Aims As an exotic species colonises a new continent,it must overcome enormous environmental variation in its introduced range.Local adaptation of introduced species has frequently been observed at the continent scale,particularly in response to latitudinal climatic variation.However,significant environmental heterogeneity can also exist at the landscape scale.A small number of studies have provided evidence that introduced species may also be capable of phenotypic and genetic differentiation at much smaller spatial scales.For example,previously we found US agricultural and non-agricultural populations of Sorghum halepense(Johnsongrass)to be phenotypically and genetically distinct.in this study,we inves-tigated whether this phenotypic differentiation of agricultural and non-agricultural populations of S.halepense is the result of fine-scale local specialisation.Methods We surveyed a nationally collected S.halepense germplasm panel and also collected neighbouring agricultural and non-agricultural sub-populations of S.halepense at four sites throughout Western Virginia,USA,raising seedlings in common conditions mimicking both agricultural and non-agricultural habitats.Important Findings At the national scale,we found evidence of habitat differentiation but not specialisation.However,at the local scale,we found evi-dence of specialisation in two of the four local populations to non-agricultural habitat,but no evidence of specialisation to agricultural habitat.These results show that local specialisation is a possible,but not guaranteed consequence of kilometre-scale habitat heterogen-eity in invasive species.This finding contributes to a growing aware-ness of the importance of fine-scale local adaptation in the ecology and management of introduced and weedy species. | Daniel Z.Atwater Rebecca A.Fletcher Christopher C.Dickinson Andrew H.Paterson Jacob N.Barney | 2018 | Journal of Plant Ecology2018，11，2： | 2 |
| 7 | Fisheries monitoring: Perspectives from the United States显示文摘Fisheries monitoring in the United States exists in many forms and serves many functions due to geographically varying objectives,practices,technology,institutional structures,and funding.In the U.S and abroad,diverse catch methods commonly exist for the same stock,thus monitoring and reporting strategies need to be tailored to unique operational needs.Common management challenges include funding limitation,survey design,coverage,and implementation.We describe three innovative examples of fisheries monitoring in the United States.These stories of success and failure can inform the design and implementation of new monitoring pilots and aid crafting both regional and national policies.We explore the innovative vessel monitoring and electronic logbook practices across multiple sectors for Gulf of Mexico red snapper(Lutjanus campechanus).Then,we examine a unique monitoring program that produces critical,near real-time genetic and population surveys for sockeye salmon(Oncorhynchus nerka)in Bristol Bay,Alaska.Our final case study describes the many fishery-dependent and-independent data streams for American lobster(Homarus americanus)in New England.Across all monitoring cases exists an explicit focus on the most critical aspects of organism life history.We find strong cross-institutional working relationships and adept agency coordination are imperatives in instances of stocks occupying multiple state or federal boundaries.Our results suggest the most effective approaches address the unique data needs of a fishery,and for this,thorough understanding of both biological and socioeconomic aspects of the fishery is a prerequisite.Ultimately,the monitoring program should jointly incentivize compliance while promoting continued and evolving interaction between resources users,scientists,and management. | Robert Boenish Daniel Willard Jacob P.Kritzer Kathleen Reardon | 2020 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2020，5，3： | 2 |

| 13 | High-throughput discovery of fluoride-ion conductors via a decoupled,dynamic,and iterative(DDI)framework显示文摘Fluoride–ion batteries are a promising alternative to lithium–ion batteries with higher theoretical capacities and working voltages,but they have experienced limited success due to the poor ionic conductivities of known electrolytes and electrodes.Here,we report a high-throughput computational screening of 9747 fluoride-containing materials in search of fluoride-ion conductors.Via a combination of empirical,lightweight DFT,and nudged elastic band(NEB)calculations,we identified>10 crystal systems with high fluoride mobility.We applied a search strategy where calculations are performed in any order(decoupled),computational resources are reassigned based on need(dynamic),and predictive models are repeatedly updated(iterative).Unlike hierarchical searches,our decoupled,dynamic,and iterative framework(DDI)began by calculating high-quality barrier heights for fluoride-ion mobility in a large and diverse group of materials.This high-quality dataset provided a benchmark against which a rapid calculation method could be refined.This accurate method was then used to measure the barrier heights for 6797 fluoride–ion pathways.The final dataset has allowed us to discover many fascinating,high-performance conductors and to derive the design rules that govern their performance.These materials will accelerate experimental research into fluoride–ion batteries,while the design rules will provide an improved foundation for understanding ionic conduction. | Jack D.Sundberg Daniel L.Druffel Lauren M.McRae Matthew G.Lanetti Jacob T.Pawlik Scott C.Warren | 2022 | npj Computational Materials2022，，1： | 1 |

| 17 | Spontaneous Imbibition of Water and Determination of Effective Contact Angles in the Eagle Ford Shale Formation Using Neutron Imaging显示文摘Understanding of fundamental processes and prediction of optimal parameters during the horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing process results in economically effective improvement of oil and natural gas extraction. Although modern analytical and computational models can capture fracture growth, there is a lack of experimental data on spontaneous imbibition and wettability in oil and gas reservoirs for the validation of further model development. In this work, we used neutron imaging to measure the spontaneous imbibition of water into fractures of Eagle Ford shale with known geometries and fracture orientations. An analytical solution for a set of nonlinear second-order differential equations was applied to the measured imbibition data to determine effective contact angles. The analytical solution fit the measured imbibition data reasonably well and determined effective contact angles that were slightly higher than static contact angles due to effects of in-situ changes in velocity, surface roughness, and heterogeneity of mineral surfaces on the fracture surface.
